BAWK THIS WAY I may have found a new favorite chicken shack, y'all. With the sudden loss of our beloved Taps 'N Tenders in Naperville (Feb 2019--Dec 2023), I've been seeking a place that can satisfy my need to dunk things in sauce. While coming home one evening, I discovered Slim Chickens on Route 59 in Plainfield, near the 135th St intersection. Chick's Meal ($10) comes with three tenders, fountain drink, choice of side, Texas toast and dipping sauce. The Classic ($11) is the same thing, but with 4 tenders instead of 3. I've found the chicken tenders to be juicy and flavorful, and because they're a southern chain, they offer sweet tea! They have a GREAT selection of dips: southern gravy, Korean BBQ, garlic parmesan, "inferno", sriracha garlic, mango habanero, Slim sauce, sweet red chili, and more. You can opt to have your order tossed in a sauce, so you can get really creative--I recommend the hot BBQ w/cayenne ranch.​ For sides, you can choose from fries (decent), mac & cheese (good), coleslaw (bleh), or potato salad. For a $2 upcharge, you can substitute fried pickles, fried okra, or fried mushrooms. Chicken & waffles is on the menu; strangely, you can get an a-la-carte waffle for $6 minus the poultry. I'm 86% sure that last time they tossed my chicken tenders in mango habanero instead of sriracha garlic. I was worried the spice level would be off the charts like at Bdubs, but I was relieved to discover it's closer to Wingstop (more sweet than heat), so it was a happy accident. I've twice now picked up carryout orders, and each time the person behind the counter seemed to be having a bad day. No smiles, no 'thank you's', just them handing over a box of food with all the emotion of a robot. Take a page out of the Chik-fil-A friendliness playbook, will ya? * TL;DR * In terms of overall quality and variety of sauces, Slim Chickens is a worthy successor to Taps 'N Tenders. I managed to save a whopping $8 (!) on my last order using rewards points from a single prior visit, so definitely sign up if you plan on stopping in more than once. Prices are fair, similar to most other joints like Dave's Hot Chicken or Popeye's. Slim takes a hit on their customer service (or lack thereof), however there's no denying their product is delicious. I would still pick Slim's over Raising Cane's, largely thanks to the 17 different kinds of awesome sauces they stock. I plan on trying them all, eventually. If they work on cheering up those attitudes, we're probably looking at a 5* review update. After all, there's lots to like here! read more

Don't know why they closed this place was fire. Employees were nice too. Always got the wings, and they were so good.

The tenders were just ok. Nicely fried, really crispy and hot. But the taste, the batter, was bland. They have a lot of sauces, so you might be able to pick something to enhance it. The toast was tasty, and the fries were ok. Overall, I'm not really impressed. But I'll tell you what did impress me, the strawberry cheese cake in a jar. Not only was it really good, but it came in a glass jar, you can keep, thought that was cool. They also have an oreo one and a smores one. I would go back for that and probably get some more chicken. Tried this out and completely dissapointed. Ordered chicken sandwich, with hot sauce. There wasnt anything spicy about this sandwich. I noticed instantly the fried pickles. I love fried pickles. Was exited when i got them and well i had to spit these things out and they were extremely salty to the point that it made my mouth act as i had put something spur in my mouth..... worst place never going again. read more

We ordered 20 wings for $20 / we chose two different sauces one was (wet) garlic parmesan and 1/2 was the new Lemon Pepper (dry Rub)! The blue cheese dipping sauce was thick and cool which is just the way we like it!! We have never been here before. We will be back for sure!! My husband and I also split a fried chicken breast sandwich!! The sandwich came with pickles! Very good!! Hot, juicy, crispy breading, and full of flavor! If you like Popeyes new chicken sandwich and don't really care for the pepper taste, you will love the chicken sandwich here!! (There isn't sauce on the sandwich so you will have to ask for some) My daughter is a fry snob and she gave the fries here a thumbs up . Cannot wait to come back and try more menu items! My wife and I dropped in here the other day after an appointment we had in Plainfield. We'd never heard of or noticed it before so decided to give it a try for lunch. I'm surprised at the negative reviews. My wife and I really enjoyed it! She had naked wings and fries. Both were cooked properly and nice and crispy. I had one of their chicken sandwich options with a side of their hottest wing sauce on the side (pretty spicy). I also really enjoyed the sandwich and like hers, fries were nice and crispy. Service was super fast too. We will definitely be back when in the area. read more

The food is good with reasonable pricing for what you get. The chicken tender meals & chicken sandwiches are great. The cheesecake jars are amazing (I just wish the oreo one was always in stock--some months they don't have it). They also have the best service of any fast food place I've been to around here. I was surprised to see some reviews say otherwise, because every time I've been there the employees are always so incredibly kind and seem like they genuinely enjoy working there. I've occasionally had to wait even if there is no one else in line, but it's typically ready in less than 5 minutes. The only negative thing is that lately the food is served a little less hot than expected and is usually not warm anymore by the time I get home (less than 5 minutes away). The quality hasn't been as great lately compared to when it first opened, but it's still one of my favorite fast food places around here. read more

Used to be a great place. The chicken was bigger pieces, juicy and lightly breaded. Now the "tenders" are the length of my finger, breaded so heavily that there's no chicken in them, and so dry that you can't eat it without sauce. I've been eating here for some time now with my newly divorced wife. Never had the time to write a review on it until this weekend after some reflecting in the restaurants booth seats. This food is quite underrated in my opinion, especially compared to Raisen Canes. I never understood why that establishment got all the traffic even after several of my sabotage attempts on the Franchise... better flavor, better fries, more variety this place has got it all! While eating out here you'll find that the food is always fresh, always crispy, and you have more than one sauce option... you definitely will not see a greedy young man or woman dunking their entire hand into a cup of sauce here thankfully. Anyone who reads my reviews knows that I'm a self proclaimed wing aficionado and try various venues across the nation. I honestly had never heard of or visited a Slim Chickens before, (no idea it was a chain) but I'm glad it's in our area! I definitely experienced the "growing pains" other Yelpers note as a very green staff attempted to deal with the work week lunch rush. When I arrived, I was of the mindset that I wanted to try as many of the sauces as I could. The cashier said I could get two sauces with a 10 wing meal, so I named four sauces I wanted for the 20 wing meal. She seemed taken aback and insisted that I could only pick two sauces. We deliberated about the logic behind the "2 sauce for 10" and doubling that option until a manager stopped by. I explained my desire for 4 sauces with an order of 20 wings and he said, "Of course we can do that!" and proceeded to help the cashier ring it up. I truly don't understand reviewers who complain about "small wings". Look, if you are going to a place that specializes in buffalo-style wings, your focus is not eating wings the size of drumsticks. If I wanted to fill up on fried chicken, I'd visit an establishment that focuses on just that. I DO NOT want Purdue chicken wings. I am focused on the SAUCE. I am looking for normal sized wings with crispy outside and a fair amount of meat. With that background understood, Slim wings are perfect! Putting newly minted employees aside, my only gripe with Slim Chickens is the lack of flavor and heat in the sauces. For the most part, the four sauces I had were rather bland and two tasted like they were thickened with cornstarch + water. Simple, fast, and friendly chicken at totally reasonable prices. After a few of the reviews I expected Slim Chickens to be a bit run down but that tasty kinda gas station chicken. It was quite the wrong assessment. I found the restaurant to be really clean on both of my visits - even with snow and slush outside. Service was super friendly from being really polite when taking my order and dropping it off at the table to not being stingy with an extra sauce or two. The cayenne ranch chicken sandwich was better than average - but my chicken (read: bun) was really greasy (and the chicken was super hot grease town in the middle). Overall it did rely on the sauce quite a bit for flavor, but it was well executed in a mid premium type way. I got a side of mushrooms with that order which is what really notched up my rating here. It was not very expensive and aside from being really tasty there was a mountain of mushrooms in my basket. They went great with honey mustard and with the mango habanero hot sauce I got. Honestly I would come back for the mushrooms themselves. On my second visit I tried a Chicks meal with 3 tenders, mac 'n cheese for a side, and texas toast. The mac 'n cheese was well above average but still felt like it had a little room for improvement. One of the tenders was a bit small but that was OK because they just threw in an extra to compensate (without me asking). That's my kinda service! The chicken tenders themselves were tasty - they had a finer breading with a good crunch and were nice sized strips. As a sauce lord the inferno sauce was not all that hot and not the best flavor (not bad - just tastes like chilli pepper extract and not much else). They also have a pretty decent selection of soft drinks and if you're in a rush - a drive through window. I want to try their tossed wings and their version of chicken and waffles so I have to visit soon. I still really wanna try the korean BBQ and Slim sauces as well. Heard about this being a new(er) chicken place and took a drive to see how it is since we don't live in the area anymore. Pros - good chicken, fries (they are seasoned), and ranch (I'm a stickler about good ranch). Also, as of right now kids eat free on Sundays with the purchase of 1 adult meal so that worked for our toddler. Cons - cleanliness. And for this I won't be back, at least not to dine-in until I hear it's gotten better. Immediately upon walking in, we weren't through the double set of doors and my shoes were sticking to the floor. As we walked in to the counter it was slightly better but there's also a rug. We ordered and walked around to get drinks. There was a "wet floor" sign but wet doesn't even describe it when it's a greased over floor that we were slipping on. Even standing on the rug in front of the soda machine wasn't helpful. I carefully walked over to the rug in front of the registers and wiped my feet thinking maybe it was just right there. NOPE. The floor was just greased over. Whatever attempt was made to wash the floors wasn't done with clean mop water. It's as if they mopped the kitchen and used the same mop to then wash the dining area. Even the Every table we walked to had crumbs or something smeared on it. Settled on the cleanest one we saw. The place was not busy for a Sunday around lunch time so in my mind there is no reason why the tables (and floor) should be as dirty as they were. read more

Gave this place a second chance. Still bad. $45 for a wrap, 10 wings, and a 7 piece tender meal. The wings were small, over cooked, and drenched in mystery sauce (ordered 2 sauces, not sure what I ultimately got as it was one box of sauce with "wings" in it). The result is a very low end excuse for chicken wings. Next the wrap. Ordered with grilled chicken and no tomatoes. They gave me fried chicken and tomatoes. Not to mention I now know why they call it "slim chicken". The wrap had 2 chicken tenders in it each the size of a mans index finger. They then add a head of lettuce to the wrap to simulate a normal sized portion. If you think I am exaggerating, I challenge you to try one. It's really quite something. The tenders were actually alright as they came out grilled and had decent flavor. They were however, skimpy pieces, again, the size of a mans index finger. I came to see and feel the infamous slippery floor! Just kidding, I came for the food! We did find out that Slim Chickens was formally a White Castle and their floors were super greasy. You would think you would replace the flooring but on to the food! When we came, it wasn't crowded seeing that it was a Sunday. We walked in to see, for a limited time, KIDS EAT FREE ON SUNDAYS!!! I've had them at places where they specialize in them but to have them available here was a treat and delight to me! The waffle filled the entire plate and they already put the syrup and butter on top. I wonder if I could get it on the side or ask for more. The amount of syrup and butter was just right. The waffle was perfect, crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside. The chicken tenders were on the small side but was seasoned and accompanied the waffles perfectly. My husband ordered the same thing and I wished he ordered something else so I could eat off his plate. I'm glad that the kids meals were free because my kids didn't like it. Nothing against you Slim Chickens but my kids are McDonald's connoisseurs! They did like the fries and Texas Toast. I wasn't too pleased with the Texas Toast, comparing it to Raisin' Cane's. We also ordered Mac and Cheese and potato salad. The Mac and Cheese wasn't my favorite but my husband went to order more. It was your average fast food restaurant Mac and Cheese, and a step up from Kraft Mac and Cheese. The potato salad was flavorful but I don't really like anybody's potato salad. I'll preface this review with: I'll (likely) be back! I'm crossing my fingers and toes that our first visit was the worst of the worst and the kinks will (eventually) be ironed out. I'll continue to monitor Yelp before I return...or go during an off time... My husband went in at 1pm on a Sunday to place & pick-up an order. As many others have stated...5 minutes in line, and then nearly 30 minutes for a fried chicken & fried side isn't acceptable. We unfortunately were NOT one of the lucky ones to experience the amazing customer service that everyone has been raving about. He was offered no dessert, no free side, no coupon, etc - just an apology. Upon opening my meal I was honestly shocked at the presentation. Fried mushrooms were clearly tossed into the to-go container, and my wrap was hardly wrapped. I had to try to re-wrap it to even hold it, it was so sloppy. Halfway in I just ate the contents with a fork. Everything was placed in a large bag for carry-out but we also received no utensils or napkins. I was SO incredibly disappointed (and HUNGRY) so I was just waiting to tear this place apart, but the food was pretty good. Albeit difficult to eat due to assembly, the wrap contents were great and the smokey BBQ was very good. The fried mushrooms were salty and still had crunch to them even after traveling 10 minutes. My husband wasn't as impressed with the tenders, but the sauces (one was a garlic parm) were very good. When my family and I moved to Plainfield about two years ago, I was thoroughly excited every time I went to this place, as the quality & flavor of the food could have even rivaled with Raising Cane's. The fries were well seasoned, chicken juicy and warm. But as time has gone on, I have paid 13$ each time for 4 consistently dryer and dryer chicken tenders with soggy fries lacking of any flavor, texture or appearance. I'm extremely dissapointed in what this establishment has become, as it had so much potential. I've had orders with spilled sauce, forgotten drinks, and random sauce all over the tenders!!!! The inside of the building is dirty, sticky, and barely ever has people working, one time going through the drive thru and only seeing one girl working with the manager in the back!! Not to mention the General Manager. I used to actually want to work at Slim Chicken's, so I had an interview with her. She was extremely rude, and got up multiple times during the interview to go take customer orders instead of planning properly for her interview she scheduled with me. She was also rude to the customers she helped, arguing with them. She ended the interview with me in all of maybe 5 minutes, but I was relieved because of the red flags I had seen from her. Looking back, I dodged a lethal bullet. I have also heard they serve expired chicken, and (from a coworker who used to work there) that two of their previous employees would go to their cars on break, have intimate sexual relations, and clock in WITHOUT WASHING THEIR HANDS!!!! Disgusting!!!! Now, If this is true or not, it's none of my business and not anything that I'd know, but based on everything I've heard, I would not be surprised if the employees were severely unhygienic like that. If you live in/stop by the Plainfield area, you might as well make a detour up north on 59 and just get some Raising Cane's. You might as well head to McDonald's and get some chicken McNuggets just down the road instead!!!!!!!! TLDR: Food is horrible quality for the price, employees/restaurant are both unhygienic, and the manager/employees are extremely unprofessional and short staffed! Always shaken in my favorite sweet chili sauce. The food is so good. I'm not even a big fan of chicken but I love to eat it from here. I love that there are so many sauce options and side options are great. Peach Tea isn't too shabby, either. Haven't tried the deserts yet but they're more than likely delicious. Yuck, yuck, yuck!! Where's the seasoning on the "fried" chicken? There was not a drop of seasoning on the chicken! I was highly disappointed!! This was my first and last time ever stopping by here. The garlic Parmesan dipping sauce was tasty. Perhaps, that was supposed to be the "seasoning"? The coleslaw had more mayo than cabbage.....disgusting! The toast was soggy! Above avg fast food, had a wrap which many didnt recommend and found it to be excellent . Lots of flavor and a bit of spice. This was strictly drive thru as I was in the area for other business and decided on a late lunch. Tell you what. Wrap by itself was $6.50 which seemed a bit high but I stayed full all afternoon. This is my 2nd time trying Slim's Chickens. I would say that the food is very good. The Cayenne Ranch Chicken Sandwich is a big sandwich and pretty flavorful for fast food. Their fries have a good amount of salt and very good. Their dipping sauces are good and a lot of options which is a plus. The prices are better than most fast food. Their BBQ chicken tenders are amazing and that BBQ sauce is on another level. Lastly, Their Sweet tea unfortunately is not sweet and not good at all.
