Really dark inside but perfect thank you very much but it's still indoors inside an office building. They specialize in whiskey and have many bottles sitting on their bar to choose from. The staff are tentative, and the ambience is nice. It's with fireplace and comfortable seats. The gigantic smoked mozzarella stick was very good, but eat it when it's hot. The outside panko breading was really good. It's nice and casual atmosphere for professionals and nonprofessionals. It's right across from Ogilvue train Station which goes to all the suburbs. Very unique place, this was my first time going to a Whiskey Bar / Pub like this. It was awesome - wish I could go here more frequently. This is a perfect spot to hangout with friends, enjoy good drinks, and have great conversations. I wish I could've tried everything on the menu (because it was all so good) but I would've had to crawl home if that was the case. Just means I have to come back soon. Very fun experience. The restaurant offers an amazing selection of bourbons. Although we are familiar with single malts, we were new to bourbons and the staff did a great job in suggesting bourbons to fit the preferences we described. We tried the shrimp rolls with waffle fries, both of which were very good but we especially liked the fries, which were addictive. I believe they have a pretty awesome whiskey selection too. We came for the drinks, but if you're feeling hungry they have a few restaurants next to them that you can order from. I stopped by 2 weeks ago for Whiskey Wednesday as I am a Bourbon Enthusiast and a friend told me that they have a great whiskey list. And boy, they sure do! My co-worker and I arrived after work around 5-5:30pm and it was packed. Slightly Toasted is located in the bottom floor of an office building, next to Ogilvie, and it was 5 o'clock somewhere. The ambience was dimly lit and they had tables all around with a big bar. We were able to find 2 spots at the bar, but I'm pretty sure they were the last two spots available. Tables started to open up around 6:30pm. For food, I ordered the Barbacoa tacos dinner and it's from Asadito Taco, which is the restaurant next door and they came out pretty fast after ordering. The tacos were delicious, they had a good portion size, and it was only $15.50 so a good value. The rice and beans were pretty good as well. For alcohol, I ordered straight from the Reserve list as I have drank a lot of bourbon within my lifetime and I am really only looking for good values of my favorites and unicorns that I haven't tried. I ordered 1.5oz pours of each of Larceny Barrel Proof A120, Little Book Vol. 3 "The Long Road Home", and Thomas Handy Sazerac 20' from the BTAC. All pours were reasonably priced and all three of those bourbons are hard to find and pretty rare. My co-worker had the Bookers, Basil Hayden's Toast, and Eagle Rare. The Basil Hayden's Toast and Eagle Rare were half off with it being Whiskey Wednesday. Essentially, the 50%-off whiskies on Whiskey Wednesdays were anything not on the Reserve List. Our bartender, John, was swamped, but he was great! He told me that it's half priced whiskey on Wednesday all day, not just for Happy Hour like I originally thought, and you can buy bottles from their online store. He said that Slightly Toasted's business model is to sell whiskey at an affordable price, which is great because the secondary market and other bars in Chicago are out of control. I'm looking at you Longman & Eagle and Delilah's... Overall, Slightly Toasted has one of the BEST whiskey collections in Chicago and most of their whiskey is reasonably priced. This new spot opened up in a very convenient location right next to Ogilvie, so I had to give it a try. I made a reservation for my work team for lunch and hyped up the menu offerings to them well in advance. However, the hype was for nothing unfortunately, as our experience was pretty awful... Turns out half the menu items were unavailable that day, and the waitress was obviously upset about it too. She seemed very frustrated with the restaurant, so I could clearly tell that Slightly Toasted management wasn't doing so well- and for obvious reasons too. Since so many options were missing from the menu, our choices were very limited. Especially since the menu was already small enough, it was pretty discouraging. The appetizers we ordered- the cheese and charcuterie board, salmon poke, and bacon and egg toast- were all mediocre at best. The bacon and egg toast was probably the favorite, but nothing to rave about. The charcuterie meat was mainly just fat as well, and thus difficult to stomach. I got the salad with smoked salmon, which was a very tiny dish. The salmon pieces were little crumbs of leftover smoked salmon meat essentially, and I could tell the people that ordered the smoked salmon toast were disappointed as well. The food and drinks we ordered also took a really long time to come out, so we ended up spending about an hour and a half just for lunch. The food was definitely not worth this wait, so I doubt I, or anyone else on my team, will be going there a second time unfortunately. read more

Artisan Toast Alert! Im from NYC so I am pretty over the artisan toast fad buttt this place really hit the spot. Came for breakfast (and to watch Jim Comey Testimony). It was one of the only places open early during the week for dine in breakfast. I got the avocado toast with scrambled eggs and a bomb ass mixed greens salad on top. Seems simple but it was soooo good. I wish the avocados were mashed and spread on the bread tho. They were sliced and put on top which looks nice but made it a little more involved to eat than I would have liked. I had an orange juice which was average then a coffee based cocktail which was awesome and then a really dry hard cider which was good if youre not into sweeter ciders. The staff was mad cool. They didnt bother me but checked in and made convo here and there. Before I left they gave me lots of recommendations on other places to get great food in chicago. What can I say other than this is hands down one of the best food, coffee, and whiskey establishments in the City of Chicago with next level service. Everything about this place is amazing. The space is amazing, the coffee program is fucking incredible, the whiskey and single barrel program is one of the best in the city plus amazing prices including on rare whiskey (huge bonus points that they also have an incredible Scotch selection in addition to American whiskey), the cocktail program kills it, the food situation is innovative and delicious, and the people that work there are SO BEYOND AMAZING. If my office were closer and my SO wouldn't murder me for doing so, I'd be here every day after work. These guys ALSO regularly hold awesome whiskey bottle shares and other great events. It's a perfect spot for having a solo drink after work, meeting friends, or holding a networking or other work related event. This is easily the best happy hour spot in the Loop, not to mention one of the few places in the business district of Chicago where you can chill ALL day and eat and drink well at reasonable prices. 10/10 read more

Came to Slighty Toasted with a group of coworkers for happy hour and let's just say we got more than slightly toasted! I've been here a few times and their drinks are always strong and tasty. My favorite go to is the Upside Down. If you like tequila please get this! We shared a charcuterie board, which had a ton of cheeses and meats. Slightly Toasted was not bad at all, more of a 3.5, I think I thoroughly enjoyed the concept a lot just because it is obviously built upon current food fads. However, I must admit that I wasn't too impressed with the execution of the food. For all the components placed on their savory toasts, i'd expect some more impressive flavors especially as they're supposed to be "appetizers". However, I wasn't super thrilled but certainly not disappointed. Their cocktails are also pretty great. This is definitely somewhere you would go after work with a couple of your co-workers or friends to grab a drink and some interesting bites. Otherwise I'd advise to go elsewhere for your food. Clearly it didn't work out, and Slightly Toasted is here for the moment. The service is far more superior than its food. Hummus toast. Hearth Bread, chickpea hummus, pickled beets, avocado, feta, chives. $4 I know it's only four bucks. I'll live. Four bucks or fourty bucks. Its a simple dish. Somehow Cheech in the kitchen (which is on the other side of the bar) has managed to screw it up. We'll start with the basics. Toast: Hard as a rock, not kidding, even the steak knife they gave me and my explosive guns couldn't break through the exterior. The hummus: there is definitely something other than plain garbanzos, tahini, and oil in here. It's red and soupy! Tomato perhaps? Why not state that on the menu? The beets and the avocado slices are the only savior to this dish. Shaved and fresh beets, avocado freshly sliced onto a bed of frisee lettuce and feta cheese. Chives??? Nope. Tommy Chong has a short term memory. The manager sees I'm riding the struggle bus here with my dish as I'm scraping everything off this boulder of "toast", and sends me home with another go of the dish on the house. When I get home, it's the opposite experience. The "toast" is actually just a hunk of bread. Cheech needs to add Toasting 101 to his curriculum. read more

This was a good thing, since this joint really starts jumping early evening! I ordered the Braised Beef Short Rib Sandwich (with deelishus housemade chips) and couldn't resist ordering the Steak & Egg toast that I remembered so fondly from before. My friend wasn't hungry, so he just had a drink. The owner came by and offered my friend a taste of some premium, special reserve, small batch whiskey (6 Roses, maybe?) and chatted a bit. The ambience and service was as excellent as it was the first time, but the food fell, sadly, short of my expectations. Even my beloved Steak & Egg toast! The cocktail I had was called the Dreamsicle, and the server swore it tasted just like one. Well, I was able to discern a bit of orange cream taste, but that was nearly overpowered by cloves! Cloves in a Dreamsicle?? The horror! Anyhoo, the whiskey was great, very smooth, and I'm not even a fan of whiskey! My friend enjoyed it so well that he placed an order for it. Apparently, what we'd downed was the last of that special, sooper-dooper limited edition we'd first imbibed, so they felt free to substitute another whiskey by the same distiller. Since I was by myself I opted to sit at the bar. My main reason for coming was to experience the toasts! I went with 2 savory and 1 dessert toast. The avocado toast was just okay. I've actually had a lot better cause it was sort of bland. I however did enjoy the Steak & Egg Toast although I wish it was a little less crispy cause it was hard to cut. For dessert I went with the Butterscotch and Nutella Toast. Omg I brought this back to my desk to eat and you could totally smell and taste the bourbon. Day two of Slightly Toasted and I'm almost slightly reluctant to write this review because I don't want massive crowds taking over my new favorite breakfast spot but ST deserves recognition so here it goes... I work next door so I know the bar before this very well. The décor, almost identical to the previous bar, is very cute, clean, modern, spacious, and welcoming. But I still feel it lacks something. I want more ART, more glam, more POP. But this is something the masterminds of Oak & Char know, I'm sure, and will change very soon (hopefully). I literally JUST had two breakfast items from Slightly Toasted as I type this and I'm still wishing there was more. The first was the steak tartare toast. WOW. So, so good. It had cranberries, raw steak (obvi), and an egg on the side, SLIGHTLY cooked, which I spread all over the steak toast. It paired perfectly. The toast had great seasonings and was just the right amount for breakfast - filling but not too hearty. The toast itself is either whole grain or wheat of some sort? Flavor still spot on though SLIGHTLY healthy ;) My coworker ordered an avocado toast. When I asked her how hers was she said, "Amazing! I'll go once a week for this, every week! I'll be going for more toasts for sure." ST also has fresh baked pastries every morning but "when they're gone, they're gone." When I walked in to pick up my steak tartare order, I did not think the devil on my left shoulder was going to be so stern on me, forcing me to order this delicious cookie that was screaming my name! I thought the angel on the right would take over and make me stay true to my diet. F that ish, "when they're gone, they're gone", the devil said. I snatched up a chocolate chip with a coffee on the side. Hands freaking down, one of the BEST chocolate chip cookies I've ever had. If you're lucky to get your hands on one of these bad boys before they sell out for the day, DO IT and do it NOW. One criticism that I have for ST's breakfast is that they MUST step up their coffee game. There was no skim milk on the day I went (only 2% or whole) and there was no splenda (that I saw). My friend ordered a cappuccino and said that "though it tasted strong; Starbucks' was better." Besides the coffee, I would go try them STAT. Go ASAP before a lot of people find out about this place! I really, really hope they start doing happy hour specials too. This girl LOVES whiskey so this place will be a dream for me post-5PM.
