Went to Slickers this past weekend with my future mother in law and aunt while the rest of the family went to Water Safari....we had the best time at Slickers-my fiancé even told me we sounded like we had so much fun that he wished he had stayed with us rather than going to Water Safari with his siblings, cousins, niece and nephews. To start off, the service at Slickers was excellent. It was a busy Summer Saturday so we ended up ordering food and drinks at the bar. We ordered the drink that everyone seemed to be ordering, the Bushwhacker...wow! It was delicious and it was strong. We may have had a second round and we may have also broke out into song while take me home, Country Roads was playing. Before we realized it, we had made friends with the rest of the people at the bar and everyone was ordering the Bushwhacker. Alexis the bartender was great and was able to make time to chat with us while she made the many drinks people in the restaurant were ordering. We also all got the Slickers famous French Dip. Amazing is an understatement. It really was the best I ever had. I took half home with me and enjoyed it later that weekend. It was even good left over! This place was pretty good! It is definitely a bar with bar and grill food. We went at 4:45 on a Saturday night, and it was an 1 and a half wait. Plan accordingly. When we finally sat at our table, our server was very attentive and the food came out quick! She had a lot of tables, and were low staff, so I give her a ton of credit! We ordered the spinach, artichoke, and shrimp appetizer. I have to say, this was just okay. The shrimp were TINY. The dip itself was runny, but overall it had decent taste. It came with toasted slices of baguette. We ordered the French dip and coconut shrimp for our meals. Both were great!!! We highly recommend the French dip. The bread it came on was amazing. The coconut shrimp had a great breading, and very tender. We would both order those meals again if we went back. They have a shrimp deal I think 3-5. Grabbed a drink and dinner here on our way into Adirondack State Park. I shared a bucket of Bahama Mama cocktail, which was amazing! Could have drunk quite a few of these! Came to this place mid week during the summer it was packed there was an hour wait... we walked around a bit then sat at the bar. They were very understaffed turned out their hostess and two wait staff called out. There were kids helping host and bartenders waiting tables and one bartender tending bar and they were busting their asses! We got a couple of drinks and a chocolate milk for our daughter who they didn't care was sitting on my husbands lap.. had a great very dirty martini and they had a huge selection of beers. The bartender was super apologetic for the wait and thanked us for being patient... we got a table inside. Waitress who was actually a bartender was great - very attentive- we received appetizers quickly. We split their verisimilitude of a wedge salad called wedgie has a balsamic glaze with added candies walnuts it was huge and delicious! I mean really good - huge chucks of bacon and blue cheese - ripe cherry tomatoes soo good. I got the French dip and could not finish it - it was huge and on fresh baked bread. We were sat near the pool table. Our waiter came over fairly quickly, but seemed quite frazzled. After getting our drinks, we waited for a bit before he came back for our order. The food came out fairly quickly, but was nothing to write home about. It was a friday night, so we knew he wanted to get us in and out quickly, but we felt rushed for sure. Ate lunch there 5/10/21. First impression place smells like bleach. Reminds me of a college bar smell. I ordered wings and nachos as starters. Wings were great. Nachos were terrible. Soggy and really just a poor example of nachos. Was disappointed with them for sure. Regular cheap bagged tortilla chips with their chili on top. Chips couldn't hold up against the chili. Big soggy mess that was kind of gross texture wise. Definitely will not order them again. Meals: coconut shrimp was good. Coleslaw is weird though it's like raw cabbage with a dressing on it. Not mixed up like the coleslaw I've been eating my entire life. Was strange and disappointing. Was like a cabbage salad with dressing on top. Lame attempt at what could've been made better by following traditional standards. Fish and chips was ok. Coleslaw was disappointing. Overall I didn't hate it but didn't love it. I would not eat the fish and chips again. Desserts: brownie sundae was ok but had no brownie in it was like a piece of chocolate cake. Not terrible but definitely not a brownie. Peanut butter pie was great. Best I've tried. Service was pleasant and attentive. Those nachos kind of put me in a bad place to enjoy my meal there. Really kind of nasty and poorly executed. A bit disappointing. We were there in mid afternoon told the wait was 15 min.... no problem. No one else seemed to be waiting. 35 to 40 min later finally got seated. When we were brought in the place was almost empty. Even with less tables due to Covid it was still pretty empty. I ordered a bourbon mule. I got a vodka mule. No flavor of ginger beer and of course no bourbon. I had a backup drink in mind cause not all bars have ginger beer. Food was good'ish. Chicken wings still had some feathers on them. Gross. By the time I finished my sandwich, 10 minutes had gone by and my friend who ordered pizza at the same time still hadn't received his food. Have been going to Slickers for at least 15 years. My wife and I went a couple days ago and we were rally disappointed. My wife had the Gus sandwich and the fish was barely visible under all the batter. I had the Schroeder burger. Ordered medium and was well done and dry. Sorry to say we won't be going back for some time. Maybe it was all the new help they have. Hope more people complain so maybe something will be done about it. read more

Slickers is pretty awesome. They have a lot of good stuff here. The best part is the 29 cent peel and eat shrimp happy hour special from 3 to 5. Can't beat that deal. There are 2 kinds to choose from, the spicy, which is seasoned with old bay seasoning and garlic butter. I usually go with the spicy version. The wings are pretty good too, crispy and meaty. I ordered the French dip for the first time on this visit. It was good, however, the meat was kind of dry. But I guess that's what the AuJus is for, to moisten it up bit lol. I feel like the drink prices are a little expensive but it's a tourist area so that's to be expected I suppose. Definitely a place to check out if ur looking for something good to eat. read more

We stopped by today for a lunch outside in the sun. We sat at picnic table. I ordered a Saranac Lager and my wife had diet soda. We both ordered Cheeseburgers which came with lettuce, tomato and onion. The bun was perfect as was our server. My only regret is I didn't get her name. I would highly recommend. So- My family has visited the Adirondacks every summer since I was born, and in my memories, we've all visited Slickers 10 times if we've been once. (Probably more like 25!) We even have branded t-shirts and sweatshirts that we proudly wear around our hometown in NJ and elsewhere in the world. They usually have a pretty decent beer selection, great atmosphere and location, indoor and outdoor seating, and stick to your ribs comfort/pub food. The last time I visited prior to our most recent visit, I noticed that they don't offer any vegetarian dishes at all. Not a single one. The open-minded and agreeable vegetarian like myself can usually figure out to ask for something "without chicken" or similar. Or have pizza or nachos. This was about 3 years ago. We visited Old Forge two weeks ago, and we HAD to go visit our family favorite, Slickers. We arrive and- the menu honestly hasn't changed at all in 10 years. I'm not trying to tell anyone how to run their business, obviously you all are doing something that works great! But- is it really that hard to keep a $4-$8 box of veggie burgers in the back of your freezer so that on the off chance someone orders it you can charge them $10? I mean, you sell a single veggie burger dinner and it'll pay for the whole box that you could buy at any grocery store. I keep my own veggie burgers in the freezer! My dad ended up leaving with me and we got dinner elsewhere because Slickers was just frustratingly and stubbornly unaccomodating. In a changing world where many people would gladly pay for such a simple option.... why won't you just let them? read more

If you are ever in Old Forge, NY, Slickers is the one place that you MUST go. You may have to wait a bit for your table, but it is definitely worth the wait. Most of the wait staff is very friendly, and the food is incredible. The French Dip is hands down the best I've ever had. The bread is very soft and just delicious. The pizzas are also fantastic. There are a lot of varieties from chicken pesto to buffalo chicken to pepperoni. All of which are great (even the next day cold!) They serve some local beers on tap for cheap and they have live music on the weekends, featuring central-upstate NY's best performers. In the summer you can ride up to the dock in your boat, and in the winter you can park your snowmoblie outside, its a perfect lunchtime or dinner spot year round! read more

After a long ride on the Adirondack railroad, my friend recommended that we eat at Slickers before we had to get back on the train to head back to Utica. I was a bit drawn back since the building was just a converted yellow house made into a tavern but I accepted it and went inside. Well I can say the view from the lake is fantastic if you end up sitting outside on a sunny day, which we were not able to get sadly but because we got a table next to the windows, it was still a lovely sight. As soon as we arrived we were quickly seated by our waitress and we were able to order in just a matter of minutes. I was originally going to get the chicken sandwich but I went with the pizza margarita instead...big mistake! Why was this a bad choice? Well I didn't look closely enough at the menu which stated the pizza was "14, which meant it was a whole pizza, not individual slices. The whole pizza was about ten slices total and I ended up eating half of it and gave the rest to my friend because while I thought it was great, I couldn't finish it! It was a tad on the greasy side but it wasn't under or overcooked and it had great taste which I didn't expect from a tavern such as this. While the food was great, I initially didn't like the atmosphere since I wasn't used to it, but I warmed up to it not to long after we were seated. The downside to all this excitement was the prices. Remember that this is the Adirondack, it ain't going to be cheap up here under any circumstances so a good bargain is not to be found. Slickers sort of falls into this general area with some of their items but they are a bit below the expensive prices then over establishments in Old Forge. Having experienced a tavern for the first time, I am excited to return to Slickers whenever I visit Old Forge again. The great service and above average food quality are sure enough to bring in new customers or make regulars...such as me! read more

My husband and I ate here during a recent visit to Old Forge. You certainly can't miss the bright yellow building from the road and it was close to our motel which was nice. The bar area seems like it would be a hopping place in the evening. The service was fast and attentive. The food was tasty, reasonably priced and the portions were huge! I had the tuna melt special and while I could have eaten only half of it and been fine, I just had to finish the whole thing. My husband had the Philly cheese steak which he really liked as well.
