The pizza is great here--thin crust, lots of great, varied and interesting toppings. Nice side salads. Beer drinkers will appreciate the self-serve microbrew taps. They have a few delicious deserts that come in mason jars. Location is awesome right on a main corner so great for people watching as you nosh. The one downside is their closing time. You can't order online after, roughly, 7.30 pm every night they're open for business. Try placing a phone order at this time and no one will pick-up the phone. It's far too early, by anyone's standards. I wish they would extend their hours, as even tonite--graduation for all 3 schools in town & summer--they're stopping orders at 7.30 and closing at 8-same as always. I decided to try the Slice in my lunch break and was absolutely floored by their pizza. When I called to place my order, I was told it would only take 10-15 minutes (I can only imagine the wait time in non covid times!). When I arrived, my pizza was waiting in a warning cabinet which kept my pizza fresh and nearly hot still! The crust was amazing, thin and crunchy. The tomato sauce was to die for, very fresh tasting. I added prosciutto to my margherita and was very satisfied. We order pizza here through DoorDash because it had good ratings. We asked for a crispy crust which was a choice on the app. When we go the pizza it was very soggy and came with NO CHEESE! I have never ordered a pizza where they did not add cheese to the pizza?! We didn't request no cheese so I am very confused as to why we didn't get any cheese. Call me what you will, but when I have to go to a counter to order, eat off paper plates, have a beer in a plastic cup, then bus my own table, don't ask me if I want to add a tip when I hand you a credit card. I'm pretty sure I did more work for my meal than you did. This practice will get all restaurants knocked down one or more stars from me every single time. It's obnoxious -- stop doing it. $20+ for a pepperoni pizza and a 16 oz. beer? Way too much, especially for a pizza that was painfully greasy and devoid of flavor. I had to prop each piece on it's side to let the grease run off before eating it. That's never a good sign. Their novelty wall of beer taps that once allowed you to pull your own brews now requires an employee to draw the beer for you. The choices were OK if somewhat uninspired (there are a few wines to choose from, too), and most could have used a better (well, any) description on their electronic screens. I'm less concerned about where the beer was brewed than I am about what it tastes like, but maybe that's just me. I don't know -- maybe dining out in the Age of Coronavirus just isn't worth it, because it feels sad and depressing to be scolded to wear a mask when you aren't eating. The rules aren't the fault of the establishment (unless they aren't required by the city/county), but the rules literally make no sense, and no one wants to be made to feel like a criminal for walking in the door with a pulse. We saw a couple walk away because he had no mask. How absurd is that when you can sit there and eat without one, but the walk from the door to a table in an empty restaurant requires a face covering. It's going to take a lot of work for a place like this to make their customers feel welcome in this time of weird regulations, but when you don't really have great food to fall back on, what is there? read more

Good food but totally mismanaged. Go there if you don't mind being regularly turned away before 8 pm on a Friday. No one answers the phone so you have to take your chances as to if you will get served. We are a local family in Laguna Beach and have dined at Slice with our friends many times. Their customized pizzas are nearly as good as those at Blaze and they have a nice beer selection on tap. Their chocolate mousse is fabulous, when they actually make it. Unfortunately, for the last several months, the restaurant has been completely mismanaged. They close at 8 pm on Fridays due to lack of staffing, but you may not even get served between 7-8 pm. We went there at 7:15 pm one evening and were told that we could not order a pizza since there was an hour wait due to take-out orders. This surprised me because we had called on several occasions and no one answered the phones. Another time, we came at 7:30 pm and they said they closed the restaurant early due to lack of staffing. Yesterday, we got there at 7:45 pm and were happy to see they were still taking orders. We were told that we could only take our pizza to go. I said that this was odd since restaurants generally let you order before closing and then let you finish eating for a few minutes while they are cleaning up. But they had already taken all the tables inside from the outdoor area, and we were told that they did not have staff to stay after 8 pm. We then went across the street to Lumberyard, which is more expensive and has the same ownership. From there we saw people cleaning up at Slice until 8:30 pm. Could they not have let us eat our pizza for a few minutes past 8, as is customary for restaurants? I guess perhaps the owners want us to spend more money at their higher end restaurant?? When I told the young kids taking orders that we had been skunked 3 times and I would be writing a bad Yelp review, they just said "Okay," in a manner reminiscent of the Chad character on SNL. We will think twice before going back, and will share our experiences with our local community. read more

What a great addition to the area, I am always glad to see an affordable and tasty new place to open in Laguna. Service is on point, you instantly feel welcome, such a great vibe, I could see myself coming here all the time. They have a vast beer selection and the option of pouring yourself samples by the ounce is neat if you want to try a few before committing to a whole glass. The pizza is fantastic, high quality ingredients, delicious dough, sauces and toppings, a great variety and more unique options than most other create your own pizza places. They have great happy hour specials with $7 pizzas which my husband had and enjoyed, I went with the $10 create your own with up to 7 toppings. Both the tomato sauce and pesto were delicious, the bacon, ham & veggies delicious, I can't wait to come back and try more next time. You will eat about three pizzas for a party of four hungry people. Prices are reasonable and the craft beer is excellent. The staff was wonderful and very helpful. Our party all highly recommend. There's counter seating facing the street and a long communal table, as well as several outdoor tables on the back sidewalk (no shade though). Pizza was good. Slice isn't unique or all that special but it gets points for convenience. Another build your own pizza venture aimed at both endless combinations and speed. Its actually the same owners as Lumberyard which is across the street. I tend to come here when I have limited time and cant decide what to eat. When I first started going it was pretty good but now it seems they need to retrain the cook or review the method because the last few times I've went the pizza is just incredibly soggy. I actually worked at a place like this in college called MOD pizza and was a cook. We were taught that the pizza should be stiff enough to pick up a slice and it wouldn't flop like wet newspaper (or that half the pizza should be able to hang off of the pizza oven peel when picked up by the cook and not slump over). Here its just not the case. Pick up a slice and every topping and cheese base will come sliding off in a heap onto your plate. Better off eating it with a fork or just folding the whole slice over. Worse yet its often not completely cooked in the center. They want to get the pizzas out so fast they are forgoing quality. Soggy pizza is just the worst and so the last 3 times I've gone (I am really trying to give them a chance here) I've requested the pizza be extra crispy or well done. Same results with no real difference. I don't know if its a cook issue or maybe the oven surface isn't getting hot enough but it'll be a while before I return. The prices are also a tad higher than similar BYO pizza places like Pieology, MOD or Blaze but its Laguna and the rents are high so I get it. The staff is great, its a cool place with TVs and 'pour your own' beer/wine taps, but until they work out how to cook a pie I won't be back soon. read more

Was excited to try a pizza with vegan cheese since I am severely lactose intolerant and I love vegan cheese in my own cooking (same brand even) but this pizza had a plastic/rubber taste/scent and was SOOOOOOOO OILYYYYY. I ate 2 slices of my personal and immediately got sick. My colleagues who had regular (real cheese) pizzas also had the oiliest pizza they've ever had, so much so the leftovers are soggy which I've never experienced with pizza. This place is pretty cool. You get a bracelet and you can taste as many beers as you want. I had pizza also of course. It was super good. Pretty good size for one person. You can get up to 7 toppings for the same prize. Price wise I think was very reasonable. My bill came up to about $25 which included the pizza and about 9 tastings! I gave it a 4 star because I went to the restroom and it was pretty dirty. Also this place has no blinds so the sun was hitting our faces so bad and there was no other place to sit. read more

Great food, cool vibes But.... With the price point and the great artisanal stoneware and glassware they provide (serving salads & beer in) why the plastic cheap cutlery? With this location's menu and elevated culinary delights plastic utensils bummed me out and felt like a cheap/lazy miss! The food was fantastic, the pizza was delicious however the crust was soft with no crunch at all this time!!! Possibly the humidity in the summer night or the lack of ownership on a busy holiday (Labor Day Wknd) overseeing the pizza being made. The last time we ate here the owner/head chef served us and made the food that night, it had a different texture to the dough which made it outstanding, not this time... The chef staff and counter people were friendly and kept everything moving efficiently. They had their minds on service which was lovely to see with so many young people working together! They had their heads in the world of making good food and customers happy! Excellent pizza, awesome service. I went for the first time yesterday and split a pizza with a friend. Hers had some meat toppings and mine was vegetarian. Unfortunately her meat toppings got on the majority of my half but the one small slice I did taste which was meat free was really good! I liked the sauce a lot (red). It wasn't crowded and we were greeted by young employees that were in such a good mood they were literally singing along with the music. It is a relaxed and fun atmosphere and the service was on point. The pizza is Blaze-pizza/ Chipotle/ Subway style concept, where the build the pizza right in front of you the way you order it. Or - you can choose one of their creations and take the guess-work out of it. It is a fun concept and great for the picky-eaters that have to have everything their way. We only shared the one Hobie pizza, but it didn't disappoint. Beer/ Wine. For beer and wine, you get a bracelet that you scan before you pour your own tap. They have all sorts of unique cups to choose from - big, small, pitchers, etc, which add to the fun. The beer selection is pretty widely varied and you can find some unique local pours, but the wine selection is minimal. It's red or white and that's it. I really feel like they could add a few more wine selections or at least offer some additional wines by the glass. read more

This place is A-OK....I liked it....and for you newcomers, I am a hard grader. My 3-stars are your 4.5 stars. Visited with my kids and this place was fun. This is a cool eclectic pizzeria with quite a few pizza combinations on the menu. The crust was very good and service was quick. My kids ordered a simple cheese, simple pepperoni, and a pepperoni with salami. I was a bit disappointed with my kids' simplicity and lack of experimentation, but it was a blessing in disguise. The cheese had a nice blend and it did not turn out overly oily, a sign that they had a thoughtful blend of good cheeses. The pepperoni and salami/pepperoni turned out the same, not very oily but flavorful...again, a sign that they are using quality products and understand how different cheeses can prevent oil pools from forming on a barren pizza wasteland. The establishment fills up quickly, I believe they have a good formula on seats to square footage. It's busy, but still a fun place. The staff are great..super welcoming, very helpful, and each and every one appeared to appreciate the kids' and my visit. Its a casual place perfect for a quick bite. Oh...they also have a wall full of beer, looks delicious....I would have sampled two or three, but I was the DD. What this visit illustrated was that Slice knows how to make a good pizza. They can take a simple cheese and make it right, something many a pizzeria in So Cal, let alone many of the Italian restaurants, can't do. I got take out and honestly it was delicious. A little expensive but i got a salad and garlic knots and the salad blew my mind. Hard to do that with a salad but they did it. I had the chopped salad and it was definitely worth the price. Packed with goodies and meat. How often do you get a salad take out and it's just as large as the dine in? First time Slice customer. This evening ordered one Cheese and one Top of the World. Both were tasty pizzas, save for a little too much Franks Hot Sauce on the TOTW (unless you prefer the added heat). Overall great service. Pizzas were hot and ready at the committed pick-up time. And kudos to the Slice crew for ensuring Covid-19 protocols, including the need for all customers and staff to be wearing masks.
