I called on Joel at Skyline Tree again for some routine tree maintenance. He came out the same day and walked the property and made suggestions. I had a large stand of Scotch Broom I wanted removed but didn't think it was his type of work but he said they could take it on. I didn't want it sprayed or just chopped so his crew pulled up every plant . It looks so much neater now. He also suggested lightening up a huge oak overhanging the road below. A two man crew was there the next day and did a beautiful job. I was afraid of it looking too naked but it came out beautiful. The next day they chipped all the trimmings and cleaned up. The same oak is one of three in a multi trunked tree. Where they joined at ground level was a large cavity that filled up with debris and rats nests. They cleaned it out and filled it with expanding foam to seal out debris and pests then waterproofed the foam. In all, about three days work for a very reasonable price. I had a large tree (~25ft) with multiple branches to remove. Many of the branches were hanging over my roof and deck. The Skyline team did a great job of removing the tree without any damage to roof or deck. My backyard was clean and tidy when they left. It took all day because of the size of the tree. Joel has come out to our house multiple times to trim all of our trees and it's been fine. Until recently in December they trimmed all our trees including a palm tree. The bark of the palm tree "fell" midway in two areas while they climbed it, which he claims was not their fault bc it was dry. Okay fine but I texted him 3 times over a month to ask him about this bc it looks terrible and I finally got a response today. At this point he says it's not damaged but I think it really looks terrible. I asked him to come back and peel just the top portion until to where the bark fell when they trimmed the leaves and he said it would cost me up to $1,200 for one palm tree. Although, I understand there might be an extra charge for this particular service, the palm tree bark was intact before they climbed it and as a returning customer I just expect a certain level and quality of service. Maybe in the future you can call the customer when the damage is caused and let them know there's an issue or maybe an extra charge to clean it up and give them that option instead of ignoring their messages. Over promises, under delivers. Met with Ulises who mentioned he had another job a few blocks away, so he could give me a good deal, anyway he gave an estimate to remove a medium sized tree and to trim two others. Said he would have crew on the job all day to make sure it all got done. Also said he would stay on the job to instruct the team. Well we didn"t see much of Ulises as he seemed to have other obligations and the crew was small. The result was the crew did as little as possible. Whenever U showed up, I would point out what still needed to be done, at which point U would behave like he was now doing me a big favor. This happened several times and he became increasingly resentful. In the end everything got done at my insistence, except ivy growing over a railing next to the driveway. If you are looking for a reliable and a professional company, please avoid working with this "Company" We hired Skyline to work on a Tree damage report that needed to be submitted to the City of Palo Alto. After agreeing to pay $2000 upon the report approvals by the City of Palo Alto, we pay a $1000 deposit to Joel Valencia, who called himself as the Company Owner. The report was rejected by the City and needed to be corrected by the Arborist. Trying to communicate and talk to Joel about the work was nearly impossible, he refused to work with us, claiming he didn't receive a payment and he didn't have time for us at the time. A week later, he replied back to us with a message notifying he will look at the email within two weeks, so we needed to wait for 3 weeks to hear back from him. He also mention that he doesn't like to work with Asians because Asians are cheap and they will do whatever it will take to avoid payment. He also states that $1,000 is nothing for him and lastly he is calling us ignorants. We will be hiring another company that is professional, cares about their clients and has a team that can provide the actual services. Skyline Tree is a very small company and yes they might be able to trim a tree and do clean up work, but they don't have the experience for delivering professional services, especially when dealing with the Counties regulations. Save yourself some trouble. Hire a more established/professional company, a company that has a customer service department/team. Don't deal with a one man show company. read more

What a mess! Skyline Tree Service lacks professionalism and decent courtesy to clean up after themselves. My front porch and stairway is covered with bits of tree, branch and sawdust, our car has a heavy layer of sawdust and scratches from tree bits being sprayed on it. Big old tree over my driveway was dropping branches in high wind. Joel came by the week before the planned pruning, and we discussed what I wanted done and why. He recommended an approach that would meet my aggressive plan and keep my tree healthy. His crew came out a week later, ready to go, even earlier than planned, which was useful. Who shows up early? Few contractors you hire do. Most people show up late. These guys were here ahead of schedule. And they didn't complain when I said I needed fifteen minutes to move my cars and get things ready for them. The crew knew what they were doing, and even with a language barrier we were able to communicate by taking photos and pointing to how much to trim where. Joel, the boss man, arrived part way through and helped educate me about what was best for the health and look of the tree, while making sure to reduce it in size quite a bit to make it more safe. At the end they blew all the debris out of the yards, and I moved my cars back into the driveway, now much safer, under a trimmed tree. Yes there was some left over debris in the gutters but it was minimal and to be expected. read more

I got Joel's contact information from a neighbor who was happy with the work Joel did pruning some large trees. I had some good sized redwood trees I wanted to remove. Joel provided a reasonable estimate for the work along with proof of insurance and his contractor's license number. I approved the work and it was scheduled for a couple of weeks later, the earliest I could fit it into my calendar. Joel and his team of 3 workers showed up early. They were very professional as they limbed the trees, dropped the trunks in sections, ground everything up and cleaned up the work site. They were able to complete the entire job in one day, even though it could easily have stretched into two. I couldn't have been more pleased. But I still had the stumps to deal with. One tree service told me they couldn't grind them because they were on an elevated bank, 2 ft. above ground level. I talked to Joel about using an auto ramp to get the 800 lb. grinder up to the top of the bank. He ran with the idea and his worker ground up the stumps two weeks later.
