Once again, Doug knocks it out of the park. Had him out for an estimate to trim my 33 year old camphor tree in the parkway strip. Also discussed planting a ginkgo tree in my landscape closer to my home. Doug has very fair pricing. On 3/19/25, Honorio, Ismael and a third young man, came and did all work to Doug and my specifications. Camphor looks fantastic. Meticulous clean up with wood chipper. In the past, I have had issues with trees I have planted close to my home. I was afraid to try again but Doug suggested the Ginkgo Tree for this particular area. I had a fantastic experience with Anderson's Tree Care Specialists! Last fall our peach tree was showing signs of a disease. I contacted several tree companies with certified Arborists and encountered varying problems. When I called Anderson's Tree Care Specialists they responded quickly, scheduled, arrived on time and were very professional. Kaitlyn, the Aborist that came to do the initial assessment and diagnose the diseased peach tree is great and honest! She evaluated the tree and came up with a plan to treat it. I was so impressed with her knowledge and professionalism I asked her to take care of all of our other trees. Three additional fruit and two non fruit trees. I called to ask for a timeline / rough estimate for having a single tree pruned. When I asked the receptionist if they had a rough idea of how far out they were booking she simply replied, "NO." I followed up - they had no idea at all how far out they were booking clients ? She replied curtly, "No, it depends on a lot of things." So I asked if she was able to give a very rough ballpark estimate for pruning a single 50 foot tree, and she once again responded roughly, "NO." I thanked her for her time and ended the call. I called a number of companies this morning and some were able to give large ballpark estimates that they would need to follow up with in person (such as 1.5-3k) and others said, "sorry - we need to come out to inspect and give a quote in person !" Both are completely valid responses - as opposed to a super unfriendly receptionist who seemed irritated I called at all. As echoed in another recent review by Basil H. - whether this is the fault of the receptionist or the company as a whole - Anderson's Tree Care just seems completely uninterested in small local clients. read more

Professional outstanding tree service. . The arborist , Christa took the time to thoroughly evaluate in advance my older trees had recieved a major pruning job in 2013 via google earth. She evaluated the subsequent tree growth and made her recommendation for the health of my beutiful trees. Christa also took into account what I wanted for shade and sunlight for my garden and incorporated that into her pruning recommendation. I was pleasantly surprised that she dropped by the day before and placed out cones with signs saying temporary no parking on it so the neighbors were notified. The crew came out the next day with an articulating crane to get the taller branches over the street giving the trees the exact pruning they needed. Pole pruning was done over my yard were the crane could not reach keeping branches away from my house per fire hazard. Communication in english was perfect. I requested an additional service and fee of having the arborist out when one tree was being pruned to have it closely supervised to get the sunlight I wanted for my yard. communication between the arborist and administrative staff was perfect. Anderson's Tree Care did a great job at a reasonable price. I needed to have one street tree removed and another pruned, as well as some additional pruning of two smaller trees on my lot. Years earlier, I tried to save some money by hiring a tree trimmer that didn't have a professional arborist on staff, but that turned out to be a big mistake. They did a terrible job and just haphazardly lopped off branches. This time, I made sure to only get quotes from professional arborists. Anderson's was one of the choices on the list of "approved" vendors from the city of San Jose, but they still gave me a quote that was on the lower end of the range of quotes I received. Nevertheless, I'm now 100% pleased with the results Anderson's was prompt and responsive throughout the entire process. They provided a quote within 24 hours of inspecting the property. They then showed up promptly at 8 a.m. on the day we scheduled for them to do the work. Despite the substantial amount of work to be done, I was impressed that they managed to complete the work by 12:30. Every leaf and branch had been cleaned up, shredded, and carted away -- not only from my yard but also anything that fell in my neighbor's yard and in the street. The only work that they were unable to complete that day was the stump grinding, but they returned the next morning to complete that in an hour, again leaving the area spotless. Everyone on the team was courteous, professional, and responsive. The trees, particularly my remaining large street tree, look great. [P.S. - I don't write a lot of Yelp reviews, but one of the reasons I initially hesitated in choosing Anderson's was that they didn't seem to have as many reviews as some of the other firms from which I got quotes. I used their services last year to spray our trees (to prevent fruit/nut formation) and was satisfied. They came on time as promised and took care of it. This year, I contacted them. Received a quote and then when it came to scheduling, I reached out over 5 times and they kept either not responding or pushing me out for one reason or another. Finally, I had it out and said: "Do you want the job or not?". Surprisingly their answer was "no, we don't, we are too busy with some of our big clients and don't know when we can get to you." Wow! Thrilled. Professional, talented, COVID-safe and knowledgable. We have two 45' Sycamores by the street that needed trimming. Had never been trimmed, and they now look amazing. We also had a 45' ash tree that died this year, and needed to be removed. Part of it was over our roof, but they were very careful. The roof is a flat foam roof that can be punctured but they took extreme precautions. We walked it together before the job, and so they swept it, laid down plywood sheets and tarps. No damage! They also removed a section of the fence to get access for the stump grinder, relocated the patio furniture, protected the flagstone patio, then cleaned up, put it all back and replaced the fence so you can't tell which section was removed. WOW! We could not be happier! Going to have them back in the fall to trim the other trees and plant a replacement for the Ash. read more

After two weeks and no response, we ended up using another arborist service. Doug (proprietor) came out promptly to assess our tree, make suggestions, give me additional insight, etc. He's a nice guy and clearly knows what he's doing and has been in the business for decades. We had a jacaranda that had to be taken down (it had grown up against a fence). We also needed a palm pruned and a large flowering tree. Doug was able to send out a 2-man crew within a few days. They came promptly on time and went straight to work. They were friendly, courteous and picked up after themselves. The price beat our expectations. And they're licensed, bonded, insured which is a mandatory thing for me when it comes to tree removal. At a previous address, we paid 20% more to remove a few trees. I asked for a couple of quotes to take down a massive 70-100 feet tall tree. They were the more affordable one by A LOT! I checked their credentials online and decided to hire them for the job. A team of 4 guys came in and took the tree down in an amazing 8-hours! The tree was at a back corner with 3 other yards. If anything fell off the tree into the yards, I haven't heard a thing. Spoke to my next door neighbor who pointed out how clean his yard was. He said that nothing fell in his property. If you see the video, you may see how close the tree is to the fence. So not having anything falling off is indeed a major skill. The other next door neighbor had her driveway invaded by all sorts of trucks and machinery. That was where they did the big wood chipping. A 4 foot tall mound of mulch sat there for most of the day. I was mortified about the driveway, and was readying myself to sweep that thing up after they left. Again, when I went to check it out after they left there was NO sign that a major tree cutting operation took place there. Needless to say, I would recommend them to anyone. read more

After reviewing the work required they promptly scheduled the day estimating 5hrs of work starting at 7:30am. Previously, we hired a company to trim our tree branches which were resting on the neighbors power line. The "arborist" that quoted the job was impressive, but he didn't show up with the crew - and they didn't speak the only language we know. Result: They butchered the wrong side of the tree which was in contact with main cable lines. We made them come back and do the job right, but it wasn't pleasant. But today, the arborist that quoted the job for Anderson's Tree Care showed up with the 4 man/ 2 truck crew. And we didn't need him. The directions were clearly understood by the crew. Two of them were very good at English and were responsive to several suggestions. Does anybody else tip tree workers? The total job was $2185. My wife gave each worker $10. They did a beautiful job in the back yard trimming a Bottlebrush, Peach and Lemon Tree and others. The Monster - Ash Tree out front also received a good trimming. A neighbor of mine had hired Anderson's Tree Care to come and trim out some trees that grow from their yard and over into ours, so there was need for this company to come onto our property to do additional trimming and cleanup. Although there was great care taken to make sure that falling branches would land safely, there was, unfortunately, some breakage of items in our backyard. However, once the lead in the trimming service was notified of the damage, they were very apologetic and sincere in wanting to make things right and very professional in working quickly to correct the situation. The trees look healthier than they ever have and, even though there was a slight mishap in falling debris, the service provided by Anderson's was top notch. I wanted fruit trees pruned regularly. On the first day, Doug was supposed to come for a quote but there was a family issue and Dan came out. He gave me a quote much higher than I had anticipated and so I declined it. He then reached out again and wanted to see if we might negotiate the cost. I was hesitant and told him I could not meet him even close to his initial quote. However he was interested in seeing what numbers I was thinking and I mentioned half or even less. In the end, the quote was less than half the original quote. This already made me worry a little, but we settled on a date for the work. No one showed up; I called. First the office tells me Dan is no longer w the company and they didn't know about the agreed work date, although there is email documentation which included office staff. Doug calls me back and tells me Dan had to leave for a family issue. Doug also tells me he needs to come out and relook at the work anticipated so he can see what the crew needs to bring, but would plan to send a crew out Wednesday. He comes to relook at the job, I don't receive any return call, and no one comes out on Wednesday. read more

Doug came out to give me a quote on removal of a redwood that had been planted in close proximity to a utility pole in my backyard. Removal required a special-case permit due to the age of the tree. He took care of everything. He wrote up the report for and obtained the permit for us within the window he'd indicated. Doug's crew came out within a week of issuance and took the tree down within a couple of hours. Two of his guys came out a week later to grind the stump and do the re-planting. We've used Anderson's Tree Care for several years, mostly for tree removals, and have been pretty happy with their work. But our most recent experience--involving them pruning a beloved Siberian elm--was a way less satisfactory experience. When Doug showed up to give his workers directions, I overheard him telling them to remove no more than 25% of the tree's fullness. I then asked him if anything could be done to give the tree a better shape since the bottom was a lovely spreading canopy with an empty space above it, topped off by a "lollipop" of foliage. He answered: "No, that's just the tree." He then left and I WFH'ed for a couple hours. When I finally went to check on his workers' progress, I was aghast! The tree had been thinned so severely that I could see sky and/or other houses behind it everywhere! I'd guesstimate that 75% of the tree was removed (although when my husband saw it later, he thought it was only 50% gone). I called Doug to get his crew to STOP pruning (they were on lunch break) and told him how unhappy I was. He indicated that once the crew got into the tree, it might not have been possible to thin just 25%, leading me to wonder why I wasn't warned about that. He did not offer to come look at the tree himself. He did not offer a discount. He did not apologize. His office promptly sent me the bill that afternoon. I've paid it but will definitely NOT be using Anderson's for any future tree-pruning. The tree will probably look good in a year or two (the crew removed so much of it that I got the good shape I wanted despite Doug's "No" response to my query). But for now, it just looks BUTCHERED! read more
