I decided to go with Payne Tree care because of the wonderful reviews a few years ago. I was won over by his confidence and charisma. But I would say that after working on our yard, I regretted having him work with us. He quoted us almost $3000 and said the work would take all day. The day of, he came in the morning and left in two hours. The trees weren't trimmed well, lower portions were trimmed but not the top or upper portions which are the difficult to reach ones. When I pointed it out he cut a few more branches from the bottom. It seemed he was there for a quick job. Also, when he met me for the first time, he said "Ni Hao". It was offensive cause he made the assumption that I spoke Chinese because of the way I looked. read more

I wrote the first review of Jerry Payne and Payne Tree Service a little over 10 years ago. Over the years we've had him come back a few more times (we probably should have him come a little more frequently) and each time we have been completely satisfied with his work. We hired him again just a couple weeks ago to basically tackle every single tree and shrub in our yard, including an ornamental topiary-type pine tree in the front, a couple bottle brushes that have grown beyond my ability properly shape them, and a large lemon tree that had frankly become a monster in danger of becoming self-aware and consuming any creature that walked past. I got a call back within an hour of leaving a message. Even though it had been at least a few years since we last hired him, he remembered me and my location. Early the next morning he was at our home to look over things, and shortly thereafter gave me a quote that was quite acceptable, considering how much I was asking him to do. We set up a date and time, and he showed up promptly with his crew and got to work. Within a couple hours the work was done and our greenery was looking great again. I kind of wish I had taken a "before" picture of the lemon tree, because the end product is fantastic. Not a great experience. We worked with Payne about a year and a half ago to help prune a citrus and apple tree in my backyard. We initially scheduled for a Friday afternoon appointment, Jerry called me Thursday morning asking if he could come that afternoon. I was in the office at this time (this was before COVID - around Feb 2020, no WFH) and would be coming back about 30 minutes after he arrived, so I asked my neighbor (we live in a townhouse complex so it is easy to do so) to check on the work before I arrived. However, once I got home Jerry had left, made an absolute MESS (twigs and branches everywhere), and most importantly, did not even FINISH the job - only half of the tree was done. I even noticed a ton of apples and citrus just lying on the ground in our backyard. My wife called Jerry and he said they had finished the job, even though I said they had not.
