I tried a small 5 Way (chili, cheese, beans, and onions atop spaghetti) and a Coney Dog (chili, onions, mustard, and a mound of shredded cheese atop a hot dog). This is the best location to visit for first timers and the best location to visit for loyal fans of this unique style of food! It is the cleanest and most organized Skyline we've ever been to. Recently remodeled to bring back the old style bank building it was, adds to the ambiance. The staff is super attentive. Krystal is such an awesome server. She's dedicated to Cincinnati and Skyline. She is the icing on the cake to a great experience. Owner Nick and Manager David are dedicated and engaged in the business to ensure this location stays successful. Ohhhh!! Skyline Chili is not something that's gonna blow you away with flavor. It's comfort food that is authentic to Cincinnati. It's something you have to try to experience raw Cincinnati culture. The dining room was clean and the service was phenomenal. Our waitress did an outstanding job. She gave us facts about the history of the city and the dish. She even gave us some coasters which was very nice. It also took maybe 3 minutes from the time we ordered to get our food. The chili itself was meh. I wish you got more chili for the amount of noodles they give you. I also loved the insane amount of cheese though. The chili itself wasn't as good as I was expecting. The flavor was very hidden in my opinion. It's not terrible but I wish it had a more dominant flavor. The coney dog was much better. This is definitely the route to go. The hotdog was snappy and good. The bun was also a good white bun. I think everyone should try this once. It's an experience that everyone should do. I would probably go back. I would recommend bringing the kids here but it's not something that's gonna blow you away. read more

I think I like the dogs the best! The restaurant is simple and very clean. They have dogs on the griddle, and food in the middle just ready to serve! I was a huge skeptic of Cincinnati chili, but on my recent visit I had to try some. I got the three-way on spaghetti, and it was actually.....pretty good. The chili is much more of a spiced meat sauce than what I would normally consider chili, but it was definitely tasty. The pile of shredded cheese on top went along well. There was a lot of water left over at the bottom when I finished. The hot dog with chili on top my kids got looked even better. Hard to differentiate the Skyline locations, but this is a good one. Clean, food's good, staff is friendly. Not much else to say and I'm certainly not going to explain Cincinnati chili. This place is getting 3 stars just because the staff was great- they were all friendly and patient with me and my group both times that I came here. I wanted to like this, I really did. It reminded me of one of my childhood favorites here at home. However, the food did not impress me. Absolutely terrible. Will not return to this location. Server only brought one thing of crackers then continued to ignore both of us. She was at least 70. I don't know if it was because we were young or what but she continued to ignore us. 10+ minutes until we ordered. Another 10+ until we got drinks. I watched as our food sat in the pass for 5+ minutes and got soggy. Delivered to us and in terrible condition. Super stingy on cheese and very sloppy. Meanwhile 5 other servers are standing around while we watch our poor server busting her butt. She asked all the other tables if they wanted their checks together or separate and then didn't ask us but brought them separate. Again I think she thought we were young kids on a date or something??? Was totally unsatisfied and very disappointed at the way these servers went out of their way to not help one another. Horrendous. When in my hometown of Cincinnati, I try to make a pit stop at a Skyline. This one recently reopened and is horrible. (1) I walked in and the wait staff, 3 older women, just stared at me. No greeting. (2) So I asked, where to sit? Most of restaurant was closed off. The cashier pointed to some tables in front. (3) The cashier, an older man, eventually came and took my order. Not a friendly person, very reserved. (4) Getting my two Coneys took forever, even though the place was near empty. When received, the cheese was cold and wieners were hard to chew, rubbery. (5) While eating, a couple walked in and waited ... and waited. Finally, one of the older waitresses told them where to sit; we were all sitting in the same area. Overheard the waitress say she was the only one on duty (the other 2 left) and that's why other tables were closed-off. And I thought to myself, "So what? Can't she walk or something?" If you're looking for Chili Cheese Fries, go to a different location - they don't have fries at this location...just had to get that out there. This is my second favorite Skyline so far. The main problem with this skyline (and it seems like this is true of all downtown Skylines) is that it's not open late. The taste of the chili at this location is pretty consistent with the one at Clifton (the one to which I hold all my standards). The serving staff is very friendly for the most part - there is one of them though, that doesn't seem to show emotion at all - I wonder about her. And be forewarned - they get pretty busy at lunchtime - duh!! It's located downtown - if you don't mind waiting, I'd suggesting going around 1 or 1:15 when it's less crowded - you can still get in and out pretty quickly because they are efficient. read more

Came here for a bite of chili since our original plan to grab dinner at Jean Robert's Table was foiled by it being closed on Sundays. I'm not a huge fan of chili (very unsettling to the GI tract) but believe in being adventurous with food. We sat at the countertop and ordered a Skyline Cheese Coney to share. We also ordered the 5-way EXTREME (spicy) regular spaghetti to share. My boyfriend noted that the coney was better here than at the ballpark. I thought it was again, just ok. The spaghetti with spicy cheese was surprisingly very good. Still turned off by the huge piles of shredded cheddar cheese that sits on top of it but we mixed it in with the spaghetti to melt it a bit. Our service here was very friendly as well. It's downtown, so it's not open late. It's not the location that serves beer, nor does it serve fries. So there you go basic skyline! It's crazy crowded for lunch, but if you go in and go to the right, there's a rope and a counter top that you can order to go. A lot of times that a quicker alternative, and that guy is ON IT! The staff is friendly and they're quick, since they know most people have a short lunch. Also this location has some of the best wraps I've had of any location! read more

I've lived in downtown Cincinnati for some time now. Today, I stumbled into a local establishment: Skyline Chili. This lovely chili parlor nestled in the heart of the city gave me the sensation of being back in my small Indiana hometown. Although word from around town was that your stomach sometimes doesn't agree with you after slobbing on a cheese coney or two. So the diarrhea was anticipated. The only thing I can say about this place is that they have the BEST chili I have ever had outside of the home! I got the 3-Way (noodles topped off with chili and shredded cheese), and they did not disappoint! The food was awesome and the service was even better. Stopped by this Skyline this past weekend while I was waiting for the bus home. I was a little surprised they closed at 9pm on a Friday night, but it's better than 8pm (which is what the door said). The staff was AMAZING! Food is usually pretty consistent with the coney joints, so no news to report. But seriously...everybody that said anything to me was incredible gracious and hospitable. Skyline's not my first choice for coneys, but I'd definitely suggest going to this one. read more

Had to go visit this place and check it out because they said it's a "must" if you're visiting Cincinnati. I was not impressed with the taste at all. I would pick Costco's hotdog anytime. The chili was watered down, there's hardly any meat or beans. It was not spicy either. It is way overloaded with cheese but still that didn't help much with the taste. The service was superb! The crew even gave each of us a small bowl to taste the chili on spaghetti noodles. They gave us freebies for souvenirs and checked on us often and spent a few minutes to chat with us. Came to this location for a quick lunch, and it was solid. The place was packed, but we were still seated promptly. I'm not from Cincinnati originally, and I've been told that either you love skyline or you hate it- I find myself somewhere in the middle. It's perfectly fine, but I wouldn't crave it over anything else, and the idea of serving chili over spaghetti is a little weird, but I can see the appeal! I got the loaded chili bowl without sour cream. I definitely had to take off about 75% of the cheese that came served on top, so next time I'll try asking for half cheese. It's a Cincinnati thing-I get it. Well...not really. I had my first experience at Skyline only because I was sick of hearing the "WHAT?! You haven't tried Skyline?!" And I have to say that I wasn't impressed. The food was-eh-so, so. The atmosphere wasnothing to write home about and not to mention the unwelcomed date I had with my bathroom for the 2 days that followed (sorry if that's TMI, but people should know these things!). You can't go wrong with a Cincinnati favorite. Came in at noon on a cold, rainy day and managed to get a table quickly. Quick service (though not necessarily the friendliest) at lunchtime to get you in and out fast. Great service! I don't know what is the big deal about it. If you are a teenager, I can get it if you want chili cheese fries or the 5 way chili. It was slow time time since I visited them around dinner. It should have been a lunch type of meal instead of dinner, but it was getting a little late and beggars were out in force. I also had the coney dog. It was a little small but it was the perfect size since I had medium size chili. I visited this place on my first trip to Cincinatti and was a little worried because some of the reviews I'd seen, but on my visit I had literally nothing to complain about. The restaurant was clean, the waitress was nice, and the food was good. I had the vegetarian burrito with the black beans, since I'm not much of a meat eater, but I did try the chili 3 way and it was surprisingly yummy! Their chili tastes WAY different than most chili (probably because of cinnamon and other spices), and this serving wasn't very meaty--so if you really like ordinary chili, you might not like Skyline's. In my quest for constant innovation, I've expanded this BLOG to include regional fast food operations. Skyline Chili, a Cincinnati staple for decades, gained notoriety for the two items shown here. On the left is the "3 Way," a plate of spaghetti topped with chili and cheese. You can upgrade it to a 4 Way or 5 Way, which the fine folks at Skyline add onions, beans, or both. I was given a bib, and instructed by my waitress to eat the 3 Way with the plates facing vertically, cutting pieces of with my fork as if I was eating a slice of pie. What a great recommendation by a friendly server. On the right is "The Coney," a small hotdog topped with chili and mounds of cheese. The establishment does not hold back on their shredded yellow cheese. The chili is different in a good way. Another customer who overheard me tell the waitress that this was my first time here described the chili as "Not Texas Chili, this is Midwest comfort food." Cincinnati Reds posters decorated the interior of the restaurant. The waitress informed me that their Coney Dogs were served at the stadium as well at an exceptional price mark up. The Coney at the restaurant ran me about $2.50 and the 3 Way small size I ordered was about $4.00. Check another one off my list people, mmm mmm delicious. read more

Can't beat Skyline's for a great Cincinnati treat! Go wherever you find them. I am also partial to the 5-way baked potato, in that corporately they won't add whole wheat pasta.
