This was my first time here. I wanted a place that I've never been to before. We pulled up and parked. The server brought us out paper menus and told us to turn our headlights on when we were ready to order. We ordered a shake, well tried to order a shake and their shake machine was down....That was a little bit disappointing. We received our food, the server forgot straws and condiments. We had to flash our lights to get his attention. One of our drinks was mostly carbon water, we had to flash again to get that replaced. They weren't very busy, but this was not the best first impression. The food was kind of bland, nothing to really brag about. I will give them another try. Maybe it was just an off night. The server was very polite and apologetic. I decided to order a second time before I posted this review, to give it a fair chance. Today is 2/10/25 and I am even more disappointed than the first time. My cheeseburger was raw. My burger was not even thick, it was like a smash burger. I was so disgusted when I bit into it and tasted the texture of raw meat. The shake was okay, I got a hot fudge shake. I taste mainly vanilla and not much hot fudge. Food was mid.... service was odd only 2 servers working seems strange. The one guy looked super busy but making sure he was getting all orders done correctly. However, the one that took our order was clearly not listening and when asked to repeat our order he did but the order still came out wrong completely missing an entire burger. We waited while our food was getting COLD. The large fry they are super stingy not worth the price in my opinion. Most definitely not the best burger in ohio. Five guys in Oakley OH and Newport KY do CIRCLES around this place. Not impressed reminds me of a step up from Wendy's. I've eaten at the Swensons Oakley location about 6 times now. You park your car, put your lights on and someone dashes out to take your order. The food is made fresh to order so when they run it out to you, yes they literally run, it's nice and hot. The Burgers: Delicious but on the small side. If you compare its size to a hamburger you're used to getting at other fast food places, it's quite a bit smaller. Bigger than a slider though. You can get their specialty burger which boasts their special sauce, which my husband wasn't crazy about, or do what I do and just order it with all the toppings you want. (He does this now too.) It's very tasty though. And you can double patties. The Chicken Sandwich: Really good. I honestly liked it better than Chic-Fil-a's but second place to Wendy's spicy chicken. Good size, delicious flavor. It's crispier than Chic's but not as crispy as Wendy's if that helps you out. Lol The bun is very good as well. One thing I do appreciate about theirs though is when you order it with lettuce and tomato, you actually get a nice full size tomato slice and lettuce-not that butt end of a tiny tomato and what looks like a piece of lettuce from the middle of the head. Thank you Swensons! The BLT: I love a good BLT and this is no exception. Tastes just like if you made it yourself. Full size bread, nicely toasted. The bacon is cooked perfectly in my opinion. Not too crispy, nice chew. Not limp. They actually give you a beautiful tomato slice on it and fresh green lettuce-not shredded. It's a classic and I recommend it highly. The Fried Mushrooms: This is the side I always get with mine. A generous portion too. Be careful, they are piping hot when they bring it out since it's fresh out of the frier, but oh so good. So good they don't even need their dipping sauce. Yum. And truth be told, I love having options that you don't see at other fast food restaurants. The Fries: Delish. They make great fries, not too salty which I appreciate. Not thin, not thick, just right. The Fish Meal: My hubby is a huge fish dinner fan. So he ordered this on our second visit and said he didn't enjoy it. Two pieces of fish that were terrible. (His words not mine). He said he wouldn't come here for their fish but does enjoy the taste of their burgers. He prefers Five Guys, but says this is still good. (I didn't try it, I'm not a huge fish eater so I had to take his word for it). I have yet to try their pulled pork, I keep ordering the Chick sandwich or BLT depending on my mood. And I can't speak about their shakes or sodas because I'm one of those water drinkers lol. But if you've never tried their food, go ahead and do it! read more

The concept of Swenson's drive in is not only nostalgic but also practical! Pull in to a space (much like Sonic drive in), turn on your headlights, and a server will be right out! The paper menu boasts much more than the posted menu. The Galley Boy burger combines tarter sauce and barbecue sauce in a delicious signature taste. Another top suggestion from what I have tasted so far: fried zucchini! The fish meal disappointed me tasting more like fish sticks than British fish & chips. Milkshakes and specialty flavored ginger ale drinks add pizzazz to the menu. I'm originally from Akron (home of the original Swensons) so I'm definitely biased. However, they NEVER disappoint after all these years. And actually, since this location has opened I've actually dated to venture away from my regular favorites and try new menu items. This staff is still learning the Swensons way of hustling when cars arrive, but they definitely have the customer service, charm, and enthusiasm that I'm used to. Our server offered options, provided suggestions, and made sure he got our order perfect. The food melts in your mouth and is full of that Swensons flare that I always look forward to. One of my favorite items is the potato tweezers. They have taken on a new shape. As the menu states "refreshingly different". I will admit I'm not a big fan. I prefer the old shape and I miss the amount of cheese that you use to get/taste. This new shape definitely teases as I feel like it's skimping on the cheese and jalapeño flavor. Lastly...the milkshake. Will always be my drink of choice, and I can't seem to leave that Strawberry alone . No worries though, I'm a lifer...they're not getting rid of me. read more

Swenson's could probably do better in this location if they updated their concept. As a complete noob, I was unsure how to order. Once I drove around the building a few times looking for a drive-thru, I realized that Swenson's is a DRIVE IN. So I parked and waited for the server to come to my car. The menu was posted on the wall minus prices, so I just winged it and ordered a Royal burger, fries & a small drink. The burger was pretty small, but very good. The fries were also pretty good. The price with a tip was just over $10. I believe that Swenson's would be better served just having a drive thru with parking spots. It's more efficient and doesn't require customers to feel more of the guilt associated with asking themselves how much to tip. Is a $1 tip fair for this? The lady was nice, how about $2? But it was just a simple burger and fries that, if I'm being honest, was a little overpriced anyway. Or, I can swing around the corner and go to another burger chain that does have a drive thru.... I may visit Swenson's again, but probably only with the family if we're looking for a novel experience. If I'm eating in my car by myself I'd rather just hit a drive thru. read more

The burgers are unique and have a sweetness to them to a little cinnamon sugar in the patty meat. The milkshakes are good, the burgers (when simple are good for a quick bite), and the sides and chicken tenders held their own. Everyone in our group didn't care for the sauces on the galley boy, but all would recommend a simple burger, fries, and shake. I really don't understand what the hype is about. My husband and I ordered 2 cheeseburgers, 2 potato sides, and 2 small milkshakes and waited 15 minutes. It was not that crowded at all. The burgers were tiny with burnt buns. The small shakes are very small, and the amount of fries / potato puffs (tator tots) was hardly any. It was essentially 2 kids meals and we paid 25$ which just seems a bit crazy to me. Wish their shakes had the extra wide straws. Server was nice. Doubt I'll be back. It's not a drive through, it's car hops so there's tip expectations. Before I could even get my car in the spot, she ran out the door & just stood there waiting as I parked. I felt very rushed like I needed to order quickly which I did. Wanted to try the fried zucchini strips. They were shown online as being lightly breaded, but reality is they're breaded very heavily which just sucks up a TON of oil so...yuck They rave about winning awards with their two special sauces. It was my first time to Swensons, and visiting, knowing that it was a new location, I expected service that was ready to explain the menu. When I asked my server for a recommendation, she said she hasn't tried the milkshakes- so just entirely unhelpful! When you pull in and they address you for service they are pretty fast and put a sign on your window indicating you are being taken care of. Well when I left, they left it on my car. Then, all my food was so compacted in one little bag that my burgers turned into smash burger. Then the one item that I really wanted, the soup, wasn't even in the bag. They also gave me ABSOLUTELY no sauce. For anything. No ketchup, no ranch, no cocktail sauce. Tried this for the first time up in the Akron area. Note: hamburgers are NOT supposed to have sugar in them, milkshakes are. A burger should taste like beef, 80/20 beef, not a bag of sugar. Their sauces are no where comparable to Frisch"s Tartar Sauce nor is their fish sandwich.
