Rooftop indoor / outdoor bar and grill with a fantastic view! We came to Sky Shed Bar in the late afternoon. The staff was great, even welcoming us to bring a child along. The food menu wasnt long, but there was plenty of variety. We all shared the tasty varied charcuterie. We rounded that out with a crisp mild goat cheese and caramelized onion flatbread, drizzled with a little sweet huckleberry glaze. Cocktails were creative, with several huckleberry choices we tourists love, and a handful of specials 4-6pm. They have nice array of regional craft beers, plus many regulars. There are great views in all directions. Mountains are closest to the east and north, and you can also see them further to the south. We saw some of the advancing spectacular sunset, viewed directly, and watching the color on the mountains. This was perhaps the best dinner&drinks view of our visit. Stopped by Sky Shed during our Montana vacation and it ended up being one of our favorite spots in downtown Bozeman. The rooftop views alone are worth the visit -- mountains in every direction and such a great atmosphere, especially around sunset. There's also a free two-hour parking area directly across the street which made it super easy. We shared the bison burger and the peach bourbon wings, and both were excellent. The wings especially had the perfect mix of sweet and spicy. Drinks were also great. What really made the experience stand out though was the service. Our server was a 10th-generation Montanan (wish I remembered her name!) and she was incredibly friendly, welcoming, and attentive the entire time. Ambience outside windows is excellent. Inside they removed comfortable seating to cram in more tables. High tables hover over low tables. The food selection is anemic. The goat cheese flatbread was way overpowered by the huckleberry drizzle. Our table of 5 kept having to wait for drink refills. Our room in the Kimpton Armory hotel was on the 8th floor and Sky Shed happens to be on the 9th, so it was pretty easy for us to pop in for a night cap after being out in the cold for most of the day. I usually don't haunt hotel bars but I had a F&B credit and I read really good reviews about this place, so we decided to come in and check it out. We sat at the bar and that was a great idea. The bartender was friendly and made us laugh a lot. She was also very good at her job and made us some excellent cocktails. We ordered from the cocktail menu, but she was ready to make whatever you wanted, except for a Captain and Mountain Dew because unfortunately they don't have Mountain Dew at the hotel. And don't worry, it wasn't me ordering that. Not that I'd shame anyone for their cocktail choices but the gentleman and lady next to us had some interesting combinations they wanted to order. We also ordered the carrot cake pops. Man those were good too. We contemplated coming in the next day for some more. We liked them that much. The ambiance of this rooftop bar is also fantastic. It's large and decorated really well but the piece de resistance was the outside and the views of Downtown Bozeman. The cozy fire pits and comfy seating were very appealing. This place has incredible views and I'm always happy to pay a little extra for a great view! The service was a underwhelming- when we arrived, we waited by the empty host stand for several minutes before giving up and trying to grab a seat at the bar. A server cut us off to tell us we had to wait for a hostess and she finally showed up. We were seated and our table server was absolutely delightful. However I felt awful for the table next to us (guests of the hotel) who had to wait over 20 minutes for someone to clean their table and take their drink order. Half of them gave up because it was taking so long. Dessert was nothing special. But if you're just looking for a great view for a drink, this place is worth checking out for sunset. read more

We were staying at the Kimpton Armory and decided to pop upstairs to the rooftop bar which has nice indoor-outdoor dining area. The outdoor couches/tables were taken so we snagged the corner table and enjoyed beautiful sunset views. The menu is comfort food and we ordered the grilled cheese & tomato Basil soup as well as the pork belly sliders. Both were tasty. My only feedback is that while the hostess did seat us, it was at least 15 - 20 minutes for anyone to acknowledge us despite being one of a few table occupied in the restaurant and several servers standing around talking. We have visited the Sky Shed several times, views are unbelievable, seasonal drinks are fantastic and service is on par with their drink selection. But if I had one disappointment were the food options, either overcooked, undercooked or just lacking flavor (even salt), I'd say they need a chef or maybe kitchen staff...but can't give more than 3 stars when food is not even recommended. read more

Views for days!!! I'm always on the hunt for rootop bars, and Sky Shed fit the bill! It's located on the 9th floor of the Kimpton hotel. There is ample street parking around and a garage nearby. It's spring in Montana, so as far as weather, anything goes! It's sunny, it's cloudy, it's raining, it's snowing... But on this particular visit, it did all but snow (thankfully). I was able to sit outside and enjoy the views for a bit, before it started to get windy. Service can use some help, but I was ok with that, since my focus was on the views. I had a couple of glasses of their Rose and ordered their loco moco for dinner. It was not a typical Hawaiian loco moco, which is understandable, but it was pretty good. It had a Hawaiian beef patty, mushroom gravy, sunny side up egg , and furikake on top of a veggie fried rice. Tons of flavor and tons of texture from the fried rice. Since I wasn't super hungry, I didn't order any more items. I am curious enough about some other things on their menu to wander back in again. I made a reservation, arrived a little early and was sat immediately. Unfortunately, I waited about 12-15 minutes before a waitress came to get my drink order. I ordered a "I'll Be Your Huckleberry"- it was okay, nothing spectacular for a cocktail. I moved to a better table in the corner by the windows just in time to watch the sun set- gorgeous. We sat at the bar and had some elk meatballs and trout dip which were amazing. So while the food and drinks were very good the service was almost offensive. The 4 or 5 waitstaff that we saw were constantly talking about the other guests in the restaurant. I get that other guests we're sitting at the fire pit (which apparently costs &500 to just sit there!) without a reservation but I don't need to hear about during my entire visit. Ironically the bartender who was good told us where we shouldn't go in Bozeman. Overall the views were incredible if you were lucky enough to snag one of the outside tables at sunset. Ambiance and service were very good. Came on a cloudy day with a bit of lightning in the distance, just beautiful. I'm a local and have avoided coming here because...parking downtown. My daughter and I were invited here last minute and decided why not? Drinks were fine, the food left a lot to be desired. $26 for a steak Caesar salad, I expected much more than half of an over cooked steak that was 35% gristle. I had the burger which again was okay but for the price, no. Patty was a bit dry and the bun fell apart. Total without tip was $62 for one drink, one soda, one salad, and a burger. Wonderful dinner experience. I had a craving for Asian food tonight and the Asian menu options here are fantastic! I had the shrimp Panang curry and my husband had the general tsp's pork ribs. Both excellent flavor profile and hit the spot. I especially liked how the chef roasted the vegetables in the Panang prior. Dorothy definitely didn't think she was in Bozeman anymore. It's been A little over two years since I've been to Bozeman and all I can say is wowza! Overall there is so much growth and there are many new developments and establishments but the Sky Shed really takes things to a higher level...literally the "sky" - rooftop! I'm not gonna lie I was very jealous of the people that were soaking in the hot pool outside but at least I was busy enjoying my french fries that were spectacular and my chocolate wonton which was divine and the dips for both of those dishes were absolutely perfect. Hopefully I can get back to going to Bozeman once a year and if that's the case I definitely would like to add Sky Shed to my list of places to visit! read more
