They only accept cash and there are no signs telling you that in advance. So they tell you to walk across the street to a grocery store to get cash. Here's a thought; post a sign that says CASH ONLY. The guy at the counter was providing IT services over the phone for 30 minutes straight which is not what you want to listen to when you're eating lunch. I have been coming to this place for 20 years now, and the quality of the food is still incredible. When I was a kid, it was the only place I'd eat chicken chow mein, because their's has a special sauce on it. Now, I usually get the Pad Thai because it's simply the best anywhere. It is always served piping hot right off the stove. My dad loves the Spicy Noodle Soup, which he had at lunch today. My mom loves the chicken special that is only available Saturdays - chicken with garlic sauce on the side served over rice. The fried bananas they make on the weekends are the best in the world too. There are a lot of fancier places you could go where people will wait on you. Honestly though, ordering at the counter, getting my own food when it's ready, and putting the dishes in the bin at the end only adds to the charm of the place. It is very unassuming, yet everyone who works there has always been exceedingly welcoming and friendly. The two ladies who cook still remember when I used to walk down there with my mom to pick up lunch for her and the other nurses at the hospital up the street. They often ask how my mom is doing and when will I be bringing my dad in again. You won't get a better, more authentic Thai meal in Southern California for a better price. I don't know what the hype with the pork is about but it was extremely underwhelming for me. The portion was also tiny (except for the rice, there was alot of white rice) and it was just bland overall. The mussel pancake was so greasy that even my dog wouldn't go near the left overs. (dead serious) The pad thai was as average as it gets, nothing that makes it better than any 2-3 star Thai place. We found out about this place from a friend. I must really be blind. I found out this place has been here over twenty years. We have lived less than a mile away for 23 years and never noticed it. Probably because it is in a little strip mall that does not look like it would have a restaurant in it. We are partial to small family run places and this is one of them. It is a very casual place that probably does more lunch and take out business than dine in. The people running the place were friendly and tried to suggest things since we weren't sure what we were in the mood for. They have a great selection of dishes and soup. We ended up getting: Crispy Pork with Chinese Broccoli Chicken with Mint leaves Pad Thai The food was fresh, hot and very tasty. We also really liked the chrysanthemum tea which was served cold. There was enough food that we ended up taking some home. The service was good even though it seems like more of a take out type place. This is a great local place to get good, quick Thai food. I needed a Thai fix, and I got it. CASH ONLY I came to try this place due to high recommendation by a friend. Glad that I did. I was able to try two items for a quick lunch, Pad Thai Chicken and Beef Panang, both were flavorful. I prefer my panang on the spicier side, so me trying it out "mild" was my mistake. I figured I can always add chili as needed. Nice little, clean location, very quick service, and contrary to other reviews here, there was customer service. They brought my food, provided me with drinks (iced tea was quite good), and they were extremely attentive (but not annoying). Quite friendly staff which made the experience even better. Price was very good, and to me, there was no compromise with food quality. Their menu is pretty straight forward, no flash. Because of another local Thai place that serves soft-shell crab curry, I hope that this could be on their menu...not holding my breath though. In hindsight, I should also have ordered the crab fried rice, but I wasn't quite sure what to expect. I usually go to Long Beach Thai on Redondo Ave and Anaheim for my thai boat noodle fixin. I got too lazy to drive down there one day and I was craving me some noodles. So I whipped out Yelp and typed in Thai Food, low and behold this place popped up! I was skeptical at first but was like eff it, I'll give it a try since I live near by. The boat noodle was not the best I've ever had, but it was good enough for me. It was spicy, just how I like it, but also sweet at the same time. My family and I have been coming here for years. This place is a stable for Thai people. I usually get the crispy pork or ground chicken basil, flat noodles with gravy, or the tom yum noodle soup. Lunch specials are $6 until 3 pm on weekdays. If you have a big appetite I would not recommend getting their lunch specials because the portions are not large. Their portions are smaller than most Thai restaurants but they do make up for it in flavors. Happy hour noodles from 4-6 pm for $4.99. I was really sorely disappointed. I really was only given about five pieces of pork, a mountain of slightly overcooked rice, and some broccoli. Did not know this place exist. Hidden gem for sure. We've lived in this area for about 5 years and didnt know this place was here. Tried it today for our first time and quite impressive. I always tell myself if a thai place can make good thai boat noodle then it's gonna be an pleasant experience for me. Guess what? It was delicious! The curry noodle was good too. Portion was good and the food came out blazing hot in temperature, thats how I like it. It's a hole in a wall business and I love supporting local owners especially when it feels like back in the days when my family and I would have brunch or lunch together in the weekends. Food is pretty good, definitely one of the better Thai places in the area, but not as good as the restaurants in Thai town. I still like Panvimarn on Carson & Bellflower better. True, they're both serving different kinds of clientele and Panvimarn's menu is a bit on the Americanized-side. But food is good in both places. The difference is in the service. Panvimarn's service is slower but they're more courteous. Food came out much faster at Sizzling Wok, but service is minimal. I went there with my 2 coworkers, both are males and regular customers. The cashier (and probably the owner) was very nice, smiley, chatty, to them ONLY. She acted like I didn't even exist. I might give it another try to see if it's a one off, but only when I crave crispy pork dish for a lunch (which is a bad idea anyway...I'm prone to food coma). read more

This is probably my favorite place to order Thai Boat noodle soup. I came into the restaurant not too long ago as they have a great price on lunch specials, and noticed a majority of the tables all had bowls of soup for lunch. I asked the hostess what everyone had and she mention the type of noodle soup so I made a trip back the next day to order the soup. While it does have some meats that I am not adventurous enough to try I was able to get it with slices of beef. This soup is amazing Today I happen to be sick, wanting soup, went into the restaurant and ordered the soup to go. When I arrived home I was very pleased at the amount of soup that you get to go you definitely get the same amount as you would if you were in the restaurant and it tasted just as good brought home and assembled. The thai food here is extremely authentic. The owner and chef used to be head chef at a thai restaurant in Marina Del Ray before deciding to open her own place. Her whole family (kids included) are from Thailand, so they're more than familiar with traditional thai food. Everything I've had here has been fantastic! Crispy pork, any of their noodle plates, and the soup is out of this world. OUT OF THIS WORLD. Their chrysanthemum tea is made FRESH daily in a giant pot. The boil the flowers every night to serve fresh tea the next day. If you love thai tea-you'll love their thai tea. And then you're shocked (happily) again when you realize how affordable everything is here. It's cash only, so keep it in mind when driving over. They have the best kind of happy hour in the world. I used to work in the office pretty close to this place long long time ago, still have to get back here once a month at lease! Number one favorite of me of all time is curry noodle, rice noodle in curry soup with soft stewed beef and boiled egg. never find this good from any other place in town. Can't resist to order this noodle every single time I'm here. "Hoy Todd" crispy fried muscle with flour and egg, served on bed of bean sprout is another great dish to try. If I had to describe the Pat Kra Pow it would be like a orchestra in you mouth. Extremely flavorful, but I got to warn you. If you ask for it spicy, be prepared for a raging inferno in your mouth. Well we walked in and the place looked great. Apparently it had a makeover. The staff was quick and helpful. I had the pad see ew (spell check) and it was amazing. I went with their stir fried Chinese broccoli with crispy pork lunch special for $5.95. I've been to several Asian restaurants with lunch specials and this place has got to be the skimpiest yet. I probably got like 5 tiny little pieces of pork (mostly fried skin), two pieces of Chinese broccoli, a good size amount of rice, tiny salad, and two wontons with nothing in it. The menu said desert and drink but because it was take out, it wasn't part of the deal. The food was good but let's just say I HAD to eat the rice in order to fill myself up. I had my standard Drunken Noodles (aka Pad Kee Mao) and the mussel pancakes. Yes this place is CASH ONLY, but that's why you order via yelp/grubhub and just pick it up. Fast and friendly service, and they offer extra sauce! The drunken noodles you can order mild/medium/hot, and they come on a bed of lettuce. Medium was great, though next time I'll probably try hot.
