Do not rent from this company. We arrived in Denver after dark one evening with 3 toddlers in tow. I was given a receipt with damages to the vehicle listed on the bottom, there were numerous scratches and dents listed and I was not told to inspect the vehicle in the dark parking lot. Upon returning the vehicle two days later, after only being driven on the highway and parked in a garage, the company sent me a bill for damages that they say we caused. They had photos that were taken apparently after I returned the car but no photos before the car was in my possession. Because I didn't inspect the car in the dark parking lot with three toddlers past bedtime, there is nothing I can do but pay the $500. I wish I would've paid a little extra and rented from a more reputable company that isn't trying to scam their customers in moments of weakness. **Edit- I had already spoken with the claims department prior to this post and was told there was nothing I could do. I had no questions, I was simply positive that the damage was not caused to the car during my possession but because there were no photos from before my rental period, I had no proof. I will be taking detailed photos every time I rent a car in the future and will NEVER use this company again. Absolutely despicable. read more

So: a lot of people have posted some very legitimate complaints. I knew I'd be taking a risk by going with Sixt over the more established rental car companies, but figured I had nothing to lose except my time. And, so far, it's been so good. Yeah, the shuttle from the airport took a little while longer than the Avis/Hertz/Enterprise buses. But five minutes of standing out in the cold isn't a dealbreaker. When we got to the agency, they had my reserved car and honored the price I had booked, and the folks were as nice as any rental car employees I've ever encountered. Did they try to upcharge me with an upgrade and insurance? Sure. But as long as long as you're comfortable saying "no," it's really nothing worth complaining about. The car I rented was new, clean, and runs great. And for less than the price of a Rav4 at Alamo or Budget, I got a full-size 3 row SUV. I'm sure other people have had negative experience here, and I don't mean to discount them. But I can tell you that I certainly didn't. read more

We used Sixt to rent a car. The initial Staff was nice, after that a total disappointment. They did not have a vehicle type I requested so we took a minivan rather than wait. The van was trashed and full of garbage and half eaten food. This was when COVID precautions and cleanings should have been taken by Sixt. We drove it very little and when we returned it there was no check in- just park and go. A couple of days later we received a notice that the windshield was chipped. A month later: $122.24 loss of use $ 25.00 chip repair $. 15.00 admin fee $162.24 Total extra cost added to our rental If you are going for PRICE keep in mind they will get you on the back end. read more

Car we were given was dirty on the outside. Hard time understanding why there were several BNW 5 series on the lot when we drove out of lot (car we booked) Also informed by staff that App doesn't work to do "speedy checkout and exact car select". RIP OFF and FRAUD. Sixt is trying to rip me off by claiming that when I picked up my vehicle, the vehicle had a full tank of gas. The clerk, who served us indicated that the vehicle, only have half a tank, which was true. When the vehicle was returned, it had more gas in it. Yet, they claimed that the tank should have had full when it was returned. Thus, they decided to charge me $9.99 a gallon of gas. $9.00 A GALLON!!!! TO THE OWNER; YOU HAVE BEEN INFORMED ABOUT THIS AND HAVE CHOOSEN TO IGNORED IT. KNOCKING DOWN MY FUEL COST FROM $129.87 TO $78., IS STILL A RIP OFF! TIME TO INFORM THE PUBLIC OF THIS SCAM. Just received email stating that they will not refund my claim and provide no documentation or photos to back their claim. It appears that this is not the first time they have pulled this stunt, and have deceived other past customers. UPDATE, end of September: SIXT reached out and suggested I call Customer Service, and I got a verbal agreement to refund the remaining $200. However, this devolved to statements from Expedia (the vendor) that they need a written authorization from SIXT, assurance from SIXT that the online file was updated and should be visible to Expedia, and now new direction from SIXT that they can't provide a written statement and that this in fact is not their issue at all. So, we are still stuck with the expense for events we could not control. I have asked SIXT to provide a management-level point of contact since the call center staff aren't able to help (or be consistent). Still one star for now, since that's the lowest score we can give. And...FYI, we had the same issue of a weather-related cancellation in Salt Lake City with Hertz, and Expedia was able to quickly resolve that for a full refund. read more

Pleasant personable agent told us we could upgrade from SUV to a van for a total of $2000 for 15 days. Including additional driver and all taxes, the contract set price at $157.50 per day for 15 days. When medical emergency forced us to return car after three days, the final price of $703.45 charged $234.48 per day. Email complaints brought no reasonable explanation. Neither did two phone calls to customer "service" reps who said I couldn't have the documentation I in fact had, and who not only refused to transfer me to a supervisor, but hung up on me when I insisted. I've since contacted the Better Business Bureau for what amounts to more than $200 in overcharges. read more

Very inefficient check in process. I've rented before from Sixt and had great experiences but this location was understaffed and took an *extremely* long time to process each customer. Despite their detailed license and identity pre check in process, the check in counter was close to 15 minutes per person. Do not rent from Sixt! I currently have a rental car from their Denver location. It has a flat tire. I have been trying all day to reach someone to have it repaired and can't get anyone on the phone. (Every time I do, they put me on hold, transfer me, and then I get disconnected.). I reached the roadside assistance number, and they told me they don't help with flat tires, they only help if my vehicle needs to be towed back to the airport. So, I am about to just get a ride back to the airport and send them an email to tell them where they can find their car. Problem, is, I still have 3 days left in my trip and im 2 hours from the airport. Terrible Update: I finally got a call from a customer service representative. He told me I could put on the spare (myself), then go to a repair shop, pay for the tire repair/replacement out of pocket, and then submit a "request" for reimbursement. Seriously. They did finally agree to send someone to fix it when I told them I'd be happy to put the spare on and then drive around on the donut for the next three days, or until it failed. Now, reading all the 1 star reviews about this company and its scams, I am fully anticipating receiving a delayed charge for some "damages" that I've caused (I haven't). Seems to be the company's MO. I thought it was strange no one did a walkthrough with us at the rental office to inspect for damages. Good thing my wife took a bunch of pics when we noticed all the scuffs and dings and scrapes. I booked through expedia and Beware of SIXT. They supplied me with a very scratched and marked car all noted. When returned they charged me $730. for 2 scratches they say were not there. After walking into your location and being told that the cost of a particular car was only $20 more a day and then finding out that it wasn't that cost at all I was surprised. But the salesperson never told me that there was a $1,000 hold on your credit card... Then on top of that I returned the car to have the most facetious attitude from a person that plays cognitive distance on their own mind while they make $12 -$13 an hour ripping people off. There were some negative reviews, and I was worried about trying. But I don't know what these other people are looking for. One thing I did notice, is that they had way more shuttle vans than the other companies. So you didn't wait for very long, and there only may be four other people in the van with you, which meant when you got back to the rental office, you would only wait in line for a few minutes if at all. A much better idea than jumping in a gigantic bus and waiting behind 40 other people to get your car. Be very cautious renting with the rental car company!!! I had rented a van around 11:30PM on a Thursday night for a period of 24 hours and Anthony was very helpful at the time of check out. He clarified that we had 24 hours to bring the car back, which I returned the next day(Friday) at about 10:05 PM. Everything went smoothly and I was able to get checked in and checked out within a few minutes. I didn't start having problems until a few days later when I got an additional charge from Sixt. I reached out to their customer service department to inquiry about the additional charge. Customer service claimed that the additional charge was due to the fact that I returned it at 10:27AM on Saturday, charging us an extra 24 hours of car rental, which was not true at all. I have sent over receipts and proof of when the rental was picked up and returned. Sixt has continually denied my request as their records state a different timelime. If you decide to rent from this company, be sure to keep records and photos as proof if they have inaccurate records. read more

Really scummy business practices here billing for "damage". Is a shame because otherwise the experience was great and I was considering switching my loyalty to Sixt. I'm currently a Hertz President's Circle status, so they blew the opportunity for a regular user over a quick buck. I returned the car with no issues. Until MONTHS later I received a notice that I was being billed for leaky tires. The tires were totally fine, I did not even have a low tire pressure alert on the car. Apparently a slow leak in a tire that dropped it a few PSI over 4 days in the cold Colorado winter is my fault!? That is normal wear and tear. I was notified so long after that incident that my Credit Card company insurance denied the claim. I went back and forth with their claims department and they refused to budge. I have now been sent to collections, which has posted on my credit report. A collections on my credit report for 7 years over a few PSI drop in tire pressure!? Insanity. Sixt is lucky I have not yet taken legal action. read more

This company deserves negative stars. NEVER HIRE FROM THIS COMPANY. I was looking for cars for two days from the Denver airport to the Eagle/Vail airport. This time of the season (summer 2023) is a very busy time of the year and cars were basically non existent to hire. So, I hired a car from SIXT that came to $2300 some dollars for 2 days?! Of course, immediately after I hired this car, a car became available through Hertz for $212. I hired the car from Hertz and called a representative, directly, from Sixt. This rep. told me that I could cancel immediately; but I would have a $100 fee. I told them "that was basically extortion". The rep. from SIXT on the told me to email a 'higher up' representative from SIXT and that 'if I explained the situation he/she would DEFINITELY return the $100 fee'. I had a series of emails with a "Colin" from sixt-reservations-usa@sixt.com who patronizingly told me that I would not receive the $100 in any way shape or form. Basically it was a series of emails that politely and basically repeated and explained to me how their extortion scheme worked. Each time telling me, basically, 'thanks for the $100 bucks, schmuck'. During and after this failure, I called my credit card company and explained the situation. They opened a dispute for me. So, we'll see. This Colin was very intent on keeping that $100 bucks. Usually such small change is nothing to these large companies and they do not bother to answer the dispute and I get my mo eh back. Not Colin. For sure he'll be all over this one and my $100 dollars will be gone. $2300+ for a Rav-4 or the like!!! Seriously!!! SIXT isn't even at the airport. You have to take a shuttle off airport grounds for some 20 mins. to get your car and where you pick up the shuttle? I don't know. I looked very hard before boarding the shuttle to Hertz but never saw any sign or indication where to pick up the shuttle to SIXT. So, I got on the shuttle to Hertz for a 2-5 min drive, where as "President Club" member, I simply walked out back and choose among the few, but enough, small SUVs that were there. I cannot believe that they can get away with this. No car rental company in the states has a fee for cancelling, even up to the time that you arrive at the airport! I repeat. NEVER HIRE FROM SIXT UNLESS YOU ARE AN IDIOT LIKE ME OR A MILLIONAIRE WHO JUST DOESN'T CARE TO PAY $2000 FOR THE SAME CAR THAT IS $200 AT ANOTHER COMPANY. Slow down, websites have glitches and when you are absolutely freaking out, like me, don't take just anything to have something with extortion in small print impossible to find! Rather, call and speak to a representative from a US based car rental company and get a proper car at a proper price. Choose another rental car company. Sixt rental car will not reimburse cancellations in advance, even in the case of state/hospital travel bans. Despite hotels, airlines and other companies acknowledging healthcare related travel bans, Sixt does not appear to care about its customers in this capacity. Speaks volumes about their customer service. Companies like budget will allow you to cancel without penalty up to 48 hrs in advance. read more

What in the world! I have been renting cars for over 30 years and never have I been accused of damaging a vehicle. We rented a car for a family wedding in May. It was pouring buckets of rain, so we did not have an opportunity to review the vehicle. On our way out of the lot, the employee in the booth did not examine the vehicle either. Excellent experience. My flight had been changed and then delayed, so instead of arriving at 3:00 PM I didn't get to Denver until after 1:00 AM the following morning. Sixt was closed by then. Sitting at my departure gate I tried for over an hour to contact Sixt. One negative: they make it impossible to reach a human using published phone numbers. I had a pre-paid reservation through CarRental.com. The Sixt website told me I had to deal with CarRental.com. The CarRental site told me I had to deal with Sixt. I finally found an email address somewhere in the fine print, and sent an email letting Sixt know what had happened, and asking them to hold my reservation until at least 10:00 in the morning. Based on negative online reviews I was fully expecting a tremendous hassle when I finally arrived at the Sixt double-wide trailer office around 9:30 in the morning. Nothing could be further from the truth. I was greeted warmly at the door and did not have to wait long for an agent. Fatima was very pleasant and helpful. She not only gave me the actual phone number for the Sixt Denver location, she also upgraded my car for free out of sympathy for my travel-troubles. I did not ask for an upgrade. I took photos of the few scratches and one small but deep dent on the passenger door, and noted them on the receipt. The guard at the exit suggested that I take the car around and show a lot attendant to make sure the damage was documented. So I did, and the attendant pulled up the car on her phone and showed me they already had the damage entered. The vehicle was clean and ran well. Return was easy, and the lot attendant deleted my phone contacts and data from the on board phone app in the car for me. The bus driver, Bernard from Burundi, was very nice and a good conversationalist. So, all in all, I would have to counter some of the negative reviews. My experience was very good. read more

Caught in their damage fraud. Rented a car in Denver airport I carefully inspected car since I read all the fraudulent damage claims on a Frankfurt German board (where they are based and I went to Frankfurt but used Uber instead of renting car). There are about 268 posts about them in Frankfurt mostly about false damage claims. I have used them in other cities with good service. I just found in my junk mail file a 0ctober 10th billing for rental in mid September I turned in at Denver airport. No damage, no accidents, no comments to me when turned in car and inspected it. Now out of the blue I get a bill for $541! Front bumper damage and cracks in window they claim. From researching many review sites this seems to be a common fraud they use when no damage, inspect call on return and never suggest they see any damage just a surprise bill a month later. There customer service and pricing is great - but I will certainly never use them again and warn folks on boards about their fraud. There are many review boards from the cities they operate in that have many of these types of damage reports which folks believe are not legitimate. They seem to offer lower rental costs and make it up in profits from damage claims without any indication there is damage when car is returned. It seems they can not charge to credit card used but am not clear. If they do I may have to figure how to file a lawsuit to recover but its hard to prove a negative other than they accepted return car with no disclosure of any damage after they inspected it. read more

I'm sure they do not pay their mechanics $135 rate they are charging me for labor. The scratch was there when I picked it up but they are still charging me for it. When I asked about doing an alloy wheel repair rather than dumping the old wheel altogether and creating more WASTE on this planet they did not even bother to answer my question. We booked through hotwire and got this car company. We ran into an issue because of the coronavirus and can not travel at this time so we had to postpone our trip. I called hotwire who reached out to Sixt and explained the situation and they were not willing to refund or give us future credit when we are able to make the trip again. This is very disappointing. Horrible customer service. Manager chose to be on her personal phone rather than assisting in the situation. If you rent from an outside source ie; Priceline, Hotwire, etc. be prepared for a high deposit. Worst experience ever. Arrived at Tampa Airport at 11:30 pm stood in line until after midnight. They refused to honor the prepaid reservation. There were about 20 people in line and they told everyone they were not honoring same day reservations. They told us to call priceline that booked it and gauranteed the reservation. I rented a BMW SUV that had minor dings and scratches all over the vehicle including the back. Most were documented but some evidently were not. Shortly after renting the car it started pouring rain so we couldn't check the damage report well. We used the car for a few days and returned it with no damage or Issues whatsoever. A few months later, I got a notice in my email that they are trying to collect $430 for damage which I didn't create. They claim that there was a small scratch on the back of the car when I returned it that wasn't there when I rented the car. This company is a complete scam. This is evident in the pushy upselling nature of the staff. I give it 2 stars just because of my past experience, if not I wouldn't even give them 1 Pros: Cheap when prepaying, nice shuttle drivers. Cons: Dirty car, too slow to process receipt information, Rude representatives, Hard to check for damage when the car is dirty, price change when getting there. Long story short, I didn't want the car that they had for my reservation because the employees were driving around in it. Got a lower class car for the same price. Representative was rude and angry. The car that I got was dirty from the inside and outside. Not enough signs that can guide you to the return the car. Return lady and shuttle drivers were the best thing this time. It has been almost a week and I had not received anything yet. When looking at the app, it shows that I'm still renting the car and when trying to call customer service they hang up. I already sent them an email to their customer service email but so far I haven't received anything I know that moving to a new location can be chaotic but isn't like there were a lot of clients or anything for me to recieve this treatment and not get the answers to the emails. I just hope that they don't charge me anything extra or as if I'm still in possession of the car. read more

I have never written a review for a rental car experience but the Sixt team in Denver was fabulous. I worked with a very accommodating agent (I believe his name was Will) he was born in France and he could not have been more pleasant. When I asked to pay for an upgrade, he found an amazing car and worked with his manager, (who was also fabulous) to get everything taken care of. But the great service did not stop there. The car was new and none of us could figure out how to put the top down, I literally had the entire staff surrounding the car, attempting to help me. It was the very definition of great service and teamwork. I am switching from being a lifelong Avis customer to Sixt as long as there is an option at the airports I am going to. Best Sal read more

Call me naive but I thought a European car rental company trying to break into the crowded US market would "try harder" but man this company is the WORST. Charged us $475 for dings in the bumper that were already there, despite getting a clean inspection on return of the car. We prepaid for a weekend rental and when we went to add a day they increased the price for the original days by $400, which we were forced to pay because we'd prepaid. And the pièce de résistance was charging us $125 for gas when we filled the tank before returning it but - get this - if you don't have it topped it at the return they (over)charge for the full tank. I guess we should have pushed the car from the gas station so we didn't use a half gallon. So that's $1,000 they robbed us for a weekend rental on top of the rental charge. I received an e-mail from Sixt after about 4 weeks of requesting a full refund. They kept $100 of my reservation because I pre-paid for my entire reservation up front. Even though I cancelled in plenty of time, pre-paying for your reservation in advance is frowned upon? They say it's to lock in at a special rate but that does't explain why a full refund isn't issued. If I would have reserved a car with out paying in full, there would be no penalty. Makes sense??? Why isn't it the same for people who do pay in full?? Sounds like a scam. I'm paying for the people who didn't pay in full up front and then cancelled. This company is a rip off. We filled up the car with gas before returning and then found a $192 charge on our credit card when we returned home. Found out that they charged us (fraudulently, as no receipt or notification was ever sent) for gas. They figure people won't notice! Spent hours trying to call them and they only paid attention when I disputed the charge with my credit card company. DON'T TRUST THIS COMPANY! Update: I emailed documentation of my claim 2 weeks ago to both their customer service and accounting departments and have heard nothing back from either. However the negative review finally got some attention. I will not contact them again to resolve. The charge was canceled by my credit card company, so I finally got resolution that way. Second update: SIXT is still pursuing collection of the fraudulent fuel charge. But ironically, the documentation they provided shows that the fuel tank was 8/8 (completely) full upon return of the vehicle, which contradicts their claim, LOL.
