    Eek! Wow, the 1.5 stars overall rating for this place is SCARY! ...and a bit surprising. Two things I should mention: 1. We arrived at the Denver airport sans any car rental reservation and upon landing, learned that we needed to rent an automobile. Our situation was very last minute and, to our dismay, when we approached all of the better-known rental businesses such as Hertz, Enterprise, Budget, etc., everyone was completely booked. One of the shuttle drivers for the other companies recommended Payless, pointing to the end of the street, telling us that Payless "is better." We had no choice at this point and were relieved when the Payless shuttle driver confirmed that they had available automobiles for us to rent. 2. Shortly upon arrival at Payless, I noticed the 1.5 stars average rating, gasped, but, again, sucked it up because we had no other options. We considered ourselves forewarned of a possible nightmarish experience. To our pleasant surprise, we didn't have much to complain about Payless. Pick-up at Denver Airport: As I mentioned earlier, we approached the shuttle driver, fingers crossed, and asked if Payless had any availability for us. Luckily, they did, so we hopped on and were quickly driven to the office. Rental Office Experience: We arrived to a practically empty building. Initially, I thought that the place was clean and tidy, but as I started to really pay attention to details, I realized that venue needed some major care; the busted baseboards at the entry looked really ghetto and the FILTHY window sills, almost each with a dead moth or two, super grossed me out. The women's restroom could have also used a good cleaning. With no line, we were helped immediately by Shailesh who was very nice and friendly. He even gave me a free bottle of water, so that I could take an aspirin for my headache. Our final total rental invoice amounted to $1,228.79 for June 18 through 25, 2024 for a standard SUV. I thought that this was a decent price for what we got. From arrival, to leaving with our rental took about two hours altogether. The first car didn't have the appropriate USB connector to charge my phone, so Shailesh ordered another car that we could use. As we waited for the second automobile, two were driven up for pick-up (one for us, another for another customer). After comparing the two SUVs that were pulled up for us, the gracious other client agreed to trade rentals with us because his had the USB connector that we needed. Unfortunately, though, the other patron accidentally drove off with both keys, so we were stuck. Shailesh kindly had a third vehicle pulled out for us, a 2024 Kia Sorento, which was new, clean, and functioned perfectly. No issues whatsoever with the automobile. We were very pleased with our rental. Rental Return Experience: We drove up to the return area and shortly thereafter, a Payless shuttle arrived. The driver instructed us to leave the keys in the car, swooped us up, and drove us back to the airport. Easy peasy. THE smoothest, most convenient, and easiest rental car return experience EVER! Really scratching my head over all of the bad reviews because, other than the venue issues, our Payless experience was quite great. I would definitely consider renting from here again if I return to the Denver area.

    DO NOT COME HERE!!!! You will wait 3+ hours in line, horrible process here! Avoid at all costs, go to Avis and spend a bit more so u don't waste half your day in this line!!!

    I wish I could give zero stars. DON'T BOOK THIS PLACE EVER!!! The shuttle took a really long time to come and had no AC. And for one couple, it NEVER came! They had to take an Uber there from the terminal with a 4 month old baby in 100 degrees. The wait was 3 hours. In a dirty, failing apart sweltering room. No water given out, no helpful information and only a few chairs. When we finally got a car, it was dirty and reeked of cigarettes (the smell never dissipated). The only silver lining was that the car return was at Avis next door. The return was quick and painless. The Avis bus was large, had AC and no one had to wait for it. How this place stays in business I can't understand. A shout out to the guys from NYC in line who provided a voice and comedy to all of us suffering along with them.

    Would have given 0 stars. Completely incompetent group of employees, slowest service i've ever seen, ridiculous policies, truly the most disorganized rental company i've ever interacted with- I would rather walk to frisco from the denver airport than ever interact with this group of clowns ever again. Please for your own sanity, never step foot in the hell hole that is"Payless Rentals"

    2 hour wait time.

    0 STARS! Phone customer service couldn't help us so we had to go back to airport. Only one employee checking in. Wait time 1 hr 50 min. Car drop off in front of parking lot, so unusable.

    I'm sure your own experience here will vary. However, it's probably safe to say that you're here because you're on a tight budget and they have one of, if not, the cheapest daily rates at Denver Airport. Getting here from the airport was easy. Just look from the ground transportation signs and they'll direct you to the correct island to wait for a shuttle. They have several shuttles running, so the wait for me wasn't long at all. When I was here on a Saturday morning, the line was long and almost out the door. There was only 1 person working the counter. Later, there would eventually be 3 employees working the counter. After about an hour wait, then it was my turn at the counter. Not sure if it was because I had booked my reservation through Southwest Airlines or if the employee was taking shortcuts, but he never asked me the usual standard questions (i.e. purchasing extra insurance, taking care of the gas situation, tolls). He just hand-filled out a single slip of paper with my reservation info and the parking stall of the vehicle. Then he handed me the keys. The vehicle had some damage on the trunk, so I made sure to document that before leaving the lot. The car was scanned by the guy at the gatehouse before he raised the gate arm for me to exit. The car was fine for the duration of my trip. Upon return, they just had me park the car behind all of the other returned cars. I received an email with a summary of the charges. Thankfully, it pretty much matched what was quoted by Southwest Airlines.

So our experience with SIXT has been great for the times we have used them (CA, AZ, CO). From the free upgrades to the wonderful folks we have met. CO is no exception. The folks were so friendly. Even with the bit of snafu we had with our reservation not showing in the system everyone was still focused on great customer service. And from someone who comes from a CS background I am always paying attention to the service. So for the folks who want to b$$$ and moan and write their reviews, I challenge you to write about the wonderful CS experiences you have as well.

Then we almost got stranded, because the battery and the key was dead, and the car almost turned off. We had to go 30 minutes out of our way to go to a store to buy a key battery. They didn't do anything to reimburse us for that. Please do not rent from this company. They will send you an email saying that they're very sorry, and they understand, but never do anything about it. Most disingenuous customer service I have ever experienced. Longer lines, tension between the written word and the action, and a car that was possibly the worst performing car I've driven. The shuttle picked us up quickly, which was great! The driver was nice and helpful. Then, more than 30 minutes waiting, even after doing the online checkin. They needed to verify documents, so there is no benefit to the online checkin, you're in the same line as everyone. Was told I'd be charged a $200 deposit, no problem. Then, they charged a $250 deposit. That would have been ok, I just like to have words and action to match. The car was a standard SUV. The car was such a gutless gas-guzzling SUV. Returning the car was odd. I pulled up and into the line of cars. After 10 minutes, I began to go inside and a worker motioned for me to move the car over to the line next to the one I parked. I moved, he was gone. I just walked around the car and filmed its condition, took pictures of the clean interior, and the full gas level. I went to the bus. So very strange. And, the shuttle driver was great, a nice guy that was very helpful to everyone. The drivers earned the two stars.

    I'll never understand why these rental car places install 15-20 registration computers and then use…read moretwo or three of them at the most, leaving a line of folks to wait upwards of an hour. My wait was long; upwards of an hour after arriving by shuttle. The staff member was friendly, though I feel like the rates were all over the place. I also feel like they blast the music in the lobby so you can't hear with they're saying when they go over the rates. The electronic pad for signing didn't work so I guess I didn't need to really sign for anything. The most important point to ponder is: the car. The car, with all its 52K miles, is like new on the inside, well maintained, and clean, clean, clean. Because of this I jumped from two to three stars. The rates are a bit much, but the car is impressively good. Friendly staff, just not enough of them.

She said they can't guarantee AWD- even if they have a listing for such that you paid extra for (dont list as an option if you don't actually have). So she swapped us to another vehicle and said she'd comp the gas. When I returned the vehicle- they charged me for gas. So I waited in line again, and had to re-explain to another agent why I was given the discount. So double-check your statement for misleading billing.

    Rented a full size SUV online for $400 for a week while in Denver. We were aware there would be…read morefees. When we arrived, we were told that there was a new law REQUIRING AWD in the mountains and the fine for not having it was steep. So, he "upgraded" us to an AWD for this reason. Then, he told us the toll road fees would be, to start, at least $50 and then each camera at least $3 plus fees "and there are cameras really close together". So, the charge for using toll roads would be super expensive and told us we'd be better off with the toll package. Then, he advised us that our vehicle insurance would not protect us in any accident or damage because we'd be charged the rental fee per day until the car was fixed and that could take months. So, add that to the cost. When all was said and done with all these "requirements" to protect us because everything was worst case, we went from $400 to $1400. Come to find out, the tolls are not that high, they do not require AWD unless there is a lot of snow and an alert goes out before they require AWD or chains. So, it's not like they require it all the time or just instantly. The "full size "SUV" was a Dodge Durango which was not the size of the Ford Expedition it said originally. The girl next to us refused all of it and suddenly her rate skyrocketed because she was a "high risk" driver. She asked why, but they couldn't give her a justification. She was just told her rate increased. Stay away. This place is a scam company.
