I can get far more variety and make far more informed decisions on cost vs. quality at any of the other major retail store that don't make me pay to shop there. The quality of products is mid at best, can you get cheap meat and fish yes but its never the quality cuts its the cheaper off cuts or lesser graded meats. You can forget about anything dairy related as you have one option if they have what you're looking for at all. They're incredibly inconsistent, you can go one time, find something you love and the next time it will be gone. The ONLY thing that Costco has going for it is their return policy and trust me you will use it often as I've purchased things just for them to be covered in fuzzy mold the very next day or opened a seasoning not realizing its a year or more past date that smells and tastes stale.
