I don't like rating businesses below 3 stars unless there was something really wrong and I feel the need to warn others. However, my first time eating here will be my last time. It was just not that good and really expensive. Yelp really led me wrong, based on reading other reviews ... I have been hoping to find good Chinese food in Rhode Island for a while. Sounded promising ... but the search continues. Post-pandemic I don't know what the fuck happened to American style Chinese food. The quality and taste just took a nose dive. For so long I took for granted that, unless I was in a mall food court, most Chinese restaurants would have above average to awesome food. Now it seems 2 out of 10 have anything decent and 5 out of 10 are inedible. This place did not taste fresh, like other have said. It tasted like frozen, grocery store Chinese food. - Egg Rolls ... They taste like Cinnamon and Nutmeg. I've never had an egg roll that tasted like this. Beyond that, they are too dough heavy. Seems like the wrapper is a main componant and not a wrapper. There isn't much shredded cabbage, etc. vs. fried wonton wrapper. - Crab Rangoon ... no crab inside or even crab flavour. All you can taste is garlic powder. I prefer a sharp cream cheese and scallion flavor. This tasted like ricotta cheese blended with a mound of garlic powder. The wrapper was again too overpowering and fried a bit too long. - Chicken fingers ... The only decent part of the meal. They were plump and crispy. The coating of rice flour was bland and needed to be dipped in duck sauce or hot mustard. If I was forced to come back here, I'd get the chicken fingers as my entree. - Fried shrimp ... one bit and I spit it out and threw it away. Was it even shrimp? If so, it was probably the fishing bait kind. The cornmeal batter added nothing. I'd have thought I was eating bland calamrinl or pencil erasers. Is it shrimp paste? Why is it circular? - Beef Terriyaki ... Slimy and undercooked. It is just a bland piece of meat. No real seasoning or marinade. The website picture shows a dark brown piece of meat with blackened edges from the grill. This was light grey in color and slimy and bland. - Pork strips ... Typical. Not good or bad. I'd say these were your average run of the mill strips with a slightly less BBQ'ed taste. - Pork fried rice ... Actually some of the better fried rice I've had. Plenty of pieces of things in them and pleasing flavour. - Weird fried wontons. Like eating fried Saltine crackers twisted in a knot. Overall, absolutely not my cup of tea. A small fried rice and small pu pu platter for one came to thirty bucks after the tip! (Which they pretty much force you to leave, even if picking up) You do get a shitload of food in a pu pu platter for one. It's just not a good thing from here. The only devent stuff I had was the chicken fingers and the fried rice. Everything else I wished I thrrw away vs. wasting the calories.

My son and I got the pu pu platter for 2 and the general tso combo sub chicken fingers. It was delicious

Pupu platter for 2 and 2 general tso chicken combo with chicken fingers. Great drinks from the bar and service is always awesome!

The food was good. Service was good. Bathroom is very very dirty. Someone keeps on sneezing in the back room and it is annoying.

You enter a really quiet place. No radio and tv is muted. The workers are really nice especially the husband and wife owners. He is not what u expect- an older white man who is hilarious. The wife an older Chinese lady that is hustling. A great- hilarious duo. The place is big inside with a side room that you can fit a little party, a large bar and a cute dining room. I started with the hot and sour soup - which was spicy and good but a bit on the salty side. I then ordered Chow Mein- Fall River Style. The Chow Mein was delicious. Tons of Veggies- like a moo goo gai pan- over crunchy noodles. The rice was not very hot but the egg roll was very tasty. Overall there is a theme here with the food- a bit salty. A nice pace with ok food but good service is a place I would come back to if I am in the area. Try it out and let me know your thoughts.

When we went inside, there was only one other party there and no music, so just whispers and the sounds of utensils against plates. There are about 4-5 booths and 1-2 regular tables to choose from. Since l am not familiar with Sichuan cuisine, I had Al help me choose my dishes. I went with the dumplings in chili sauce, fried rice, eggplant in garlic sauce, and chongquin chicken. While we waited, we were given water. The dishes came out at different times. They first served us the dumplings which were really good. The sauce they were in did have some chili sauce, but it was mostly like a sweet soy sauce and really tasty. It came with about 6 dumplings with a perfectly cooked wrapper and filled with flavorful pork - simple but delicious. Next was the eggplant. I was expecting a heavy garlic presence, but it was more like a sweet and sour sauce. The eggplant was very tender, but really hot so we had to wait to let it cool down a bit. The rice came after. I honestly think this was one of my favorite dishes since it was perfectly cooked, great flavor, and good portion. Lastly, the chicken came out. There was a large pile of chicken, but half of it was peppers. The chicken was cut into little bite sized pieces, each fried perfectly. Some pieces were more tongue numbing than others but it was nothing aggressive; very gentle and comfortable numb. I would have liked if there were music, but the no music was fine too; an escape from chaotic reality. Our total was around $50, which wasn't bad for the amount of food we got. I would come back to try other items.

We ordered a California roll, the Tuna Thunder roll, Shanghai dumplings, orange chicken with pork fried rice, egg drop soup, and pepper steak with onions with white rice. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and cooked really well. The portions were huge for the price, which was a pleasant surprise. The restaurant itself has a great vibe -- very clean, neatly decorated, and the little waterfall feature added such a calming touch. It made the whole meal feel extra relaxing. The only downside was the orange chicken -- it had actual orange peels in it, and they were burnt, which threw the flavor off. Everything else was fantastic though, and absolutely worth ordering again. The staff was incredibly kind and accommodating, especially since we had our 13-week-old daughter with us. Apsara is one of my favorite restaurants in the World. Yes, you read that right--I have been to…read moreevery continent (except for Antarctica) and still write this with great confidence. I have been going to Apsara since the late 1980s, back when it was called "Bayon." It became AMAZING when it was purchased by the Te family, who still own and run Apsara. At its core, Apsara is and always has been loved by the college students in RI, for its kind servers, wonderful and eclectic foods (Cambodian, but also with Thai, Vietnamese, Chinese and Lao dishes, as well), very affordable prices and BYOB. The family has attempted various new ideas over the years, such as having sushi, and Asian shaved ices, and sticky rice desserts, most of which have come and gone, but the core menu is generally unchanged. One can still also try to order "off menu," although it's not as common practice as it had been. Start with the Nime Chow, which is essentially a fresh spring roll but with their delicious fish sauce, with crushed peanuts for dipping. I highly recommend adding a dribble of Sriracha to the sauce. Addictive! The chefs are known for cooking their stocks everyday, from hours before dawn. I find all of their soups to be delicious, with a suggestion to try their Vietnamese Sweet and Sour soup or their Tom Yum when you're battling a Winter cold. The also make Mekong fish cakes as an appetizer (finally now sometimes found at Thai places), as well as Natang, which is a minced pork with coconut cream and curry, and sometimes dried shrimp. You spoon it onto their homemade rice cakes... trust me, you'll never be tempted by Quaker Oats rice cakes ever again! Crispy wings are also solid, and the beef teriyaki is an essential (think Phnom Penh street food). The restaurant is pretty small and bustling, but very warm and "family-like." People there learn your name, as you learn theirs. Entrees are wonderful. The whole fish fried with fresh pineapple, cucumbers and tomatoes is killer! The stir fried chicken with lemongrass is delicious (try the "dry sauce") although they no longer make it with ground chicken and Thai chilis and basil (a shame as it was REALLY awesome!). The bee bongs are essentially a noodle bowl with vegetables and a protein, with fish sauce, chopped nuts and a taro fried spring roll. Other favorites include beef loclac (tender grilled beef cubes with onions and a yummy lime and black pepper dipping sauce) or the stir fried ginger chicken, with aged ginger and fresh mushrooms and onions. On a hot Summer day, the shrimp nyom (a cold shrimp salad) is tough to beat. Or mix it up, such as with Phnom Penh twilight, with calamari, shrimp, scallops and sometimes green NZ mussels. And if anyone is wondering, their white rice and their house tea are very high quality. If you are concerned about the somewhat dicey neighborhood (South Providence) or the small size of Apsara, take comfort in the fact that famous actors, musicians and celebrities have joined their kids to go there when attending the kids' graduations from Brown or RISD or wherever!
