Meh, not my kind of place. It's tight, it's hot, there's poor circulation, and the worst part is the people singing karaoke frequently goof off and make it sound terrible. I was there for a couple of hours last night and the kinds of songs they played here were just terrible. Everybody is scrunched into a tiny space sweating and drinking bad beer. There are just simply no redeeming qualities in this place. Beers are $6 a pop which is just too much. There are too many places with specials downtown to be spending $6 on a watery and ineffective beer. I definitely don't plan on coming back. If you don't like singing in front of people in dingy, run down karaoke bars, you may change your tune after you've got a few drinks in you. Sing Sing was my very first NY Karaoke experience and we went here because some friends of ours were already drunk and got a room. Since Sing Sing was a little ways down the street from where I was staying so we decided to walk there to meet up. The way there was a little sketchy and the establishment was even sketchier. With how expensive the rooms are here, you think they'd use some of the profits to make some renovations. It's rundown, even in the dark when you're drunk. Although I wasn't totally trashed, I still enjoyed watching those who were sing their hearts out. Even I had my little rendition of Adele's "Rolling in the Deep." It's a cool environment when you're taking shots in your own little private room. I was curious if those pictures with the celebrities behind the cashier are real... would they really come to a place like this? Hmmm... questionable. read more

I use to come here on weekdays with my friends and stay for hours. For some reason I was under the impression that they had closed down . So this week I was pleasant surprised when a friend of mines from out of town invited me to join him and some friends. It was a Tuesday so at first we had the place to ourselves (which we don't mind). They allow outside food so we grabbed a Pizza pie, started a tab, and proceeded to rock the night away. The bartender was very nice, attentive, and had a good voice of her own. After a while a good crowd came and the vibe was dope. Everyone was supportive (I bombed on the mic) and friendly. Happy hour was extended to 9pm and we ended up staying another hour beyond that. Sing Sing is definitely my kind of place in NYC- low key and non-pretentious. "The patience of a saint" must be a hiring requirement to work at Sing Sing Karaoke, because that's what it must take to deal with the drunken, howling masses of people behaving badly. The beer soaked song list has plenty of crowd pleasers, as well as obscure oldies, one hit wonders and even broadway showtunes. My friends will never let me live down my Max Bialystock as I belted out "The King of Old Broadway", finished by an encore of slipping on the floor (slippery from beer) onto my ass, while howling the refrain. Dirty and gross as this is, I still love it for late night karaoke good times. So practice your best Rick Roll and Don't Stop Believin', cuz nothing really matters to meeeee... to meeeee. read more

Walk into this karaoke joint, I feel like I am a teenager in NYC in the 90s. The karaoke booths are cozy and kinda grungy. The songbooks are the old flip-and-enter type. The selections are good and just fun to rock out. Prices are cheep cheep before 7? and I just want to hang out here all the time. If there's a pool table additionally... I sing karaoke about as often as often as I go to Temple. That is to say, not very often. Actually, karaoke and barmitzvahs are very similar. In both cases I sing songs that I don't know the words to. In both cases the people who hear me wonder if there really is a God. In both cases I only go when invited. When I stumbled in to Sing Sing Karaoke late the other night, I was confused. Where were my friends? Where was everyone? Oh I get it... private rooms. I like the concept... it keeps the shame to a minimum. The beer was flowing. The Bon Jovi was kicking. Did I really think the Black Crowes was a good band choice? Did I actually think me singing Girls Just Want to Have Fun was a good idea? Is there really a God? You get the picture. Luckily I was too drunk to stay too long but it was a blast... even if I reconfirmed that singing is not my gift to the world. Honestly, I wouldn't come back to this place unless I had to. Did the private room thing here and it's nothing compared to ktown. Definitely no service and the equipment is not well kept. Tell me why we got charged for gratuity when one of the mics didn't work and we had to run upstairs to get them to change the battery. The guy knew but never came back to change it. Song selection was whatevs. Sound quality was also whatevs. No one checked on us and it took forever to check in n out. I mean, it's fine if it's a no frills place and you just have to roll with it but why do we have to pay like you provided any kind of service other than opening the door to the room and bringing us our bottle? Ive been to a few K-bars in my time... heck, i call them K-bars.. so that should indicate some kind of understanding of these places. Anyways... so i show up late on a thursday night hoping to get a song or two in before sleep rears its ugly head... the wait was a full hour! and there was virtually no one in the bar. The bar-woman was surly and uninviting... theres a $30 minimum for credit cards... which is proposterous The drinks were expensive (though well poured) aaand there was some douche hogging the lime light (which i suppose is the norm for karaoke... but annoyed me cause he sang 4 songs while i was waiting) anyways, i am not sure i will be back again so soon. read more

I LOVE Karaoke...even though I am not blessed with beautiful pipes....some friends and I had an impromptu Karaoke night and decided to hit Sing Sing at 8 pm....our quick one hour turned into a 3 hour extravaganza...Billie Jean, Love Shack, Livin on a prayer...we sang em all. The thing I love about sing sing is the private room...because you are much less afraid to make a fool out of yourself in front of a small group of friends than a bunch of random people in a bar...Good times..I love it! The couches could use a big more spring and the rooms are a little dirty....probably because fools like us spill beer all over the equipment. read more

When we walked in the bar there was one person there. After waiting ten minutes at the bar with our song request and cash ready and being ignored , the single bartender in the entire bar served the 20 guests who walked in after us. After confronting him after our over 30 minute wait, he told us we were not the ones waiting the longest, was extremely rude and then told us we were never allowed back again. Very impressed with the seemingly total lack of management or care for a Friday night at an LES bar. Also, what kind of Karaoke bar has literally no Karaoke for over an entire hour? Awful bartender who is entitled and mean. Took what could have been an awesome night and threw it right in the garbage. He took the songs I paid for and tipped for and moved them back in queue all night so what should have taken an hour and a half for my songs, became 2 and a half and they were at the back of the queue again. This is the go-to karaoke spot for private rooms! It's pretty seedy and not the cleanest place, and the rooms are kind of cramped and sticky, but that's part of the charm. The song selection is good and the lyrics are mostly accurate. It's not always easy to make a reservation but it's worth it. The drinks are strong and there are plenty of good restaurants near by. Having never been to a formal kareoke bar before, if you can call kareoke formal that is, I didn't know what to expect. I don't know if this place even met or exceeded my expectations. First off, it felt like there were 4 million people cramped into a tiny room. Are the rooms supposed to be that small for that big a group? Second, I wouldn't be surprised if the rooms were moved to a dungeon in a castle. That's what they felt like. Third, it felt like some third world living room. On the plus side, there was a really good song selection, so good in fact, that my friends were even able to get me to sing the dreaded kareoke. Will I return? Not unless being dragged by the hair. It offers a generous happy hour along with many private rooms that can accomodate parties of a handful to two dozen people. Dude...this place is the bomb. I sort of just recently came out of my Karaoke shell. I always thought I had good pitch and could do at least a mediocre job getting through some of my favorite songs, but man . . I was really allowed to explore this at Sing Sing Karaoke, and realize that I am absolute shit on the mike. The key thing about this place is if you're in a group of friends, you can get a private room with your own karaoke machine and a book of songs, and just go nuts. You can order beers to the room, get completely plastered, and sing just about any song you can think of since they pretty much have a full catalog of any tune you can really think of. The catch with this karaoke wonderland is it's muy espensivo. When you're singing and having fun, you're going continue to order beers with reckless abandon. Only when you're done and asking for the bill will you realize the damage you've done. The key is just to stay conscious of how much money it will cost for your group, and how much alcohol you're consuming. Now on to the nitty gritty . . what songs did I sing? Red Hot Chili Peppers - Soul to Squeeze - Because it's the bomb, probably one of the best RHCP songs of all time, really. No, not THE best RHCP song of all time, just one of the best, none of which include anything after the Blood Sugar Sex Magick album. Guns n Roses - Patience - I actually didn't pick this, but I really wanted to sing the high-pitched "I been walkin the streets at night, just tryin to get it right" part at the end. Why? Well, because it's awesome. The end. Jamiroquai - Virtual Insanity - Wow, listen . . you pick this song . . you're in for a tough ride. Even for a musically trained fellow like myself who has a decent sense of pitch. The register is a little high . . I felt like I was squealing. Rush - Freewill - Only the people who know . . know. That's it. Everyone was like "Who the hell is Rush" . . . WHO THE HELL IS RUSH, YOU SAY? Then I murdered everyone in the room. The end. I think I sang more, but I forgot. I give this place 4 starts because it's a lot of fun fun, but it's super pricey fun. This is the perfect spot to go to if you want a more low key place for karaoke. It's also much more affordable than other places and don't require you to purchase bottles of liquor. Some friends and I were in the area and made a spontaneous decision to come in for an hour of karaoke. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. read more

Horrible horrible horrible!!!!!!!! Rude staff that guy Sung Fung or whatever his name is, was a total douche. We went there because I saw the announcement on chopsticks mag that all month for chopsticks readers they were offering 10% discount which was a good opportunity and excuse to know another karaoke, my friends and I love karaoke and we went to the one on St. Marks and was fine so we thought this one would be the same but big mistake. The lounge with the bar is so small, dirty and has chewing gum on the Walls, under the tables and the whole place looks so dodgie. I would never go there which is a shame cause we live very close but is ok, cause on orchard in the LES there is this amazing karaoke which I highly recommend called Karaoke BOHO. Don't go here. No frills karaoke! Might not have all the latest songs but always a good time. If you only sing the latest EDM fist pumper, this might disappoint you. If you want an awesome happy hour with a free song for every drink, you definitely can't go wrong. I use to get the private rooms and sing in the comfort of only embarrassing myself to close friends until I realized that singing for free at the bar and getting you and friends/coworkers drunk and dancing and somehow ending your 2 hour session hugging a perfect stranger or high fiving someone you just had a Katy Perry duet with was more fun than being the mic hog amongst your friends. We stumbled upon this place by chance looking for something to do at 3 AM. All of the sudden I look up and say: SING SING! I admit, Sing Sing is one catchy ass easy to remember karaoke name. It just has the wonderful Asian Persuasion touch written all over it. So who could resist ? We did not get a private room because we're gangsta like that. We just sat at the bar and sang in public with a bunch of random patrons who joined in on the sake sing sing fun with us. The bartender was really nice and the karaoke system (in the front) works efficiently. One bottle of sake was around $24 dollars. The atmosphere of the place doesn't match the prices for the drink. This place is very casual but fun if you want to meet friendly people who you will befriend and start belting out Elton John with by the end of the night. p.s. i would never sing in public like that. liquid courage must have helped. Came here on a Saturday night with three friends expecting a great time (as we've had before) but encountered a stranger who felt it was ok to run his hands through my friend's hair. When I told him to knock it the f*ck off, he spit in my face so quite obviously a physical fight ensued. While I fully understand that a bar cannot control what goes on between patrons, they can certainly help to diffuse a potentially dangerous situation. This, unfortunately, did not happen. My friend had to flag down the otherwise oblivious bouncer and the bartender remained unconcerned. I should probably mention that I'm a female and this male had me by my shirt. I was later told by other women in the bar that he had been an issue for them as well. Very disappointed that the bouncers didn't immediately remove this guy and that it had to come to this. Also, if the place is so packed that you can't even see or respond when a fight breaks out, you're letting too many people in and you're not doing your job effectively. I will not be back and I would warn other women to proceed with a ton of caution. I'm lucky that my friends are total badass women and were there to help but this could have been a lot worse. I hit this place a lot. Way more than I can safely say without being at least slightly embarrassed. But, whatever. I can totally sing you under the table. Weeknights are totally the best time to come- you get a free song with each drink, which makes for a lot of fun. Weekends are very crowded as it gets later- better to rent a room with some friends or get there early and head somewhere else as it gets too packed. I've made the mistake of dragging drunken people here later- unless you are big into this scene, you will probably not be into it late and crowded with drunken screaming. It's worth noting that I haven't even written a review on here for two-plus years, but I'm logging on specifically to write a great review of Sing Sing. After being a frequent, longtime patron of another karaoke bar on the LES (won't name names, but their spotty and occasionally snotty service started to underwhelm me, to say the least), I would occasionally pop into Sing Sing, but usually found it to be too crazy (read: lots of NYU kids). Lately, though, things seem to have changed for the better, and this is now my main karaoke spot -- great happy hour, super fun crowd, and great staff (shout out to bar czar Duayne). Perhaps I shouldn't let the karaoke secret out (and really, it's no secret, because everybody at least knows *of* Sing Sing), but this is where my current karaoke loyalty** lies. ** I want a membership card for that. read more

Worst karaoke place ever!!! The staff here is extremely rude and condescending. If it wasn't the closest karaoke place and the fact we were a large group, we would not have gone here. The prices were average, $8/person/hour, but the rooms have minimums and you can't simply move to a smaller room as people leave. If you don't want a private room, the bar area is also a karaoke space. The rooms had no air circulation, and the microphones had to be held a certain way or it would screech. Some of the more popular songs were set in a different key/tone. Their song selection was very weak. Never coming back here again, I rather make the trip to Gagopa. The staff is friendly, beer is cheap, and they have the lowest rates in Manhattan. read more

We all, gfs included, went to go and sing our little out of tune hearts out during our 4 day trip together. The main area was packed and we knew that we wanted to be able to sing when and what we wanted. 4 rounds and warm up of don't stop believing' and we were in full effect. It was cathartic without fear of becoming a viral sensation on YouTube. Super pricey especially for our thimbles of lemon drops but the time of our lives. Post-election weekend called for some serious imbibing and screaming at the top of my lungs. Was able to do both at Sing Sing Ave A this past Saturday night. A while back we got screwed renting a private room as friends were in an out all night long and we were charged handsomely. This time, I sent the owner an email asking them to break down the price. He did and we knew what we were in for finally this time around. I also called a month in advance to make a room reservation. They called the night before to confirm. Jess was our bartender and set us up and she was awesome. A great time was had by all. After our time was up we joined others at the bar, singing our broken hearts out to REM's It's the End of the World and Lennon's Imagine. The first time my friend (I will call her Alex) and I went to this bar, the bouncer turned my friend away because he thought her ID was fake (it wasn't--she's even older than I am). After fighting with him about it, he finally let us in. The next night, we decide to go back with some friends. We get to the bar, and it's the same bouncer. My other friends and I (who are white) get in fine, but the bouncer stops Alex again. He looks at the ID and immediately says it's fake. Again, we explain that it's not and that we were there yesterday. He denies that he worked the day before. However, we are absolutely sure it was him because he had the same lip piercing and headphones as the day before. He takes it inside "to look at it" when in reality, I see him walk into the first set of doors, lean against the wall, and look at his phone. He comes out and insists that it's fake. We fight with him some more because he won't give the ID back (even though it is A) real and B) Alex is leaving for a flight the next day and needs her ID). After we threaten to call the cops, he finally gives it back. Throughout all of this, he asked for another form of ID and kept asking Alex, who is Asian, for a passport from the country she is from (she's American, with an American passport). When we called the bar to complain, they did nothing about it and when told that they should have a scanner, they responded that scanners are not always accurate. How any person could be OK with this blatant act of racism is beyond me, and I really hope that the bouncer is fired and management takes steps to ensure something like this never happens again. read more

Seems like a lot of people posting reviews here would really suck to karaoke with. I ONLY want my karaoke bars dingy and dark, thank you very much. Gets slammed Thursday-Saturday, so call ahead or be prepared to wait if you want a private room (which is the way to go, you're only going to get 1, max 2 songs in if you sing at the bar). My recommendation is to have everybody get their own drinks from the bar rather than utilizing the room's call button...that's a very shrewd way to lull you into thinking that you're spending less than you are. Nothing shady, you just always end up spending a shitload and then cheapskates try to skip out on the tab at the end of the night. They recently overhauled the song selection system, so it's way easier and you don't have to speak korean to know what each button does. Really simple tablet used to input songs and edit the order. Badass. Can't be beat. Enjoy it here much better for rooms, prefer St. Mark's for singing at the bar (St. Mark's also doesn't have liquor for some reason). Drink prices are a little steep, but hey, it's Manhattan. read more

Hilariously horrible. Came here with a drunken group of about 10 on Saturday night with hopes of getting our karaoke on as cheaply as possible. That means not getting a private room and limiting drinks to bad beer and house shots. I have to say we ended up having a pretty good time, but that was despite the fact that it seemed like everyone there couldn't sing for their lives, the actual background music for the karaoke songs was too hard to hear(which made the wailing even more obnoxious), the bartenders are assholes, and they still charged you $2/song in the public area. I did like that everyone sang along together, and the trashy vibe was definitely more fun than it was offputting. Oh, and I realize that I can't hold this against Sing Sing, but some dude gave up on singing Born To Run half-way through and told them to skip the song! Are you kidding me, man?! It's Bruce Springsteen! Utter sacrilege. My final notes? I recommend coming here after you've had a LOT to drink and you're trying to make your night a little more interesting, but aren't sober enough to suffer a seizure upon hearing a lot of horrendous voices at once. read more

There is a reason why my friends and I always get one of the private rooms when coming to Sing Sing. That reason being: we are just way too fucking awesome. And tone deaf. But still really fucking awesome. That being said, Sing Sing is always a last-stop of the night for me. I don't think I could handle a whole night here (neither could my vocal chords); I'm pretty sure I would start getting a little stir crazy inside the private room. However, trying to really socialize in the tinyyyyy little bar up front is easier said than done. Is it so much to ask to sing and mingle? I will say that Sing Sing has a hugeeeeeeeeeeeee catalogue of songs. So if you're like me, you can go from singing Kelly Clarkson to the Beach Boys without a care in the world. Karaoke used to let you bring booze in (at least we used to bring booze in), but no longer. With slightly run down private rooms, a long wait on the weekends, and beer that you actually have to spend money on, I suggest taking it to Little Korea if you get the urge to belt out some GNR at 1 o'clock in the morning. read more

Went here with a group of friends for a birthday celebration on a Friday night. Had a wonderful time with my friends, but Sing Sing was a little underwhelming. It was my first time in a private room. Pretty cool since everyone got to sing a bunch of songs and didn't feel embarassed at all. The song books were so grungy and stinky - I'm sure a fair number of drinks have been spilled on them over the years, but I felt the need to wash my hands everytime I touched them. Song selection was okay. The lyrics and music didn't always match up. Mic wires were a pain in the butt. Servers messed up our drinks a few times. Drinks were really tiny and not very strong. And the real downfall... the price! We stayed for four hours at $8/pp and when the bar tab was added it was over $450 before tip! I guess I'm just used to Arizona where the karaoke is free, but good lawd I never wanna pay that much to sing like a fool again! I'll get drunk at home and croon Erasure songs to my husband all on my own, thanks! read more

Dont show up expecting a luxury spot! This is a dive bar kind of scene with very cheap drinks! They even had happy hour for a saturday (drinks were 4$ until 9pm) not used to that being an option in NYC. We came here for a group bday party and rented out a room. The rooms arent too big so make sure you legit like the people you are going with. Went to the bar to grab our drinks, service was really fast and the bartenders were really nice. There is a 20 credit card minimum and with the regularly prices drinks being so cheap its best to just take out cash ahead of time read more
