Amazing DJ on a Friday night but the vibes were so straight and so middle-school-dance night. Stayed from 11p-12a on a Friday night and the lower lounge was half empty despite them blasting music upstairs to get people down to the bar. I could see this getting fun if the dance floor were crowded but it was generally underwhelming. The upside is that there's no cover so it doesn't hurt to check if the lounge is packed! Drinks are on the pricier side- a vodka-cran will run you $12. read more

I haven't gone dancing in ages and wasn't really expecting to dance at what I thought would be a bar on the LES but ended up doing just that. Went here for a birthday on a Saturday night, so I was prepared for it to get pretty crowded. It didn't get super crowded til like 12:30 though and even then not so crowded that you're immobile. People in other reviews complained about mandatory coat check. I guess because we arrived at around 10:30 we didn't have to deal with it, everyone just threw their coats on the seats along the wall. My continuous journey to self discovery in hopes of "finding my way," be it with my Yelp reviews or poetry with the added effort of sampling good food and drinks this experience is rooted from the Nexus Lounge in the lower level to host private events of live performances where it enable me to bloom beautifully as a lively poet. A shout out to Angel R., fellow Yelper and new comer poet in the open-mike scene who accompanied my debut recitation, spoken word performance at One and One. "Inspired Word" open-mike series is hosted twice per week with a $10.00 cash only admission charge. The Sliders at $5.50 and Mozzarella Sticks also at $5.50 shared for two serves as my meal. Low-rise tables and ample couches enables patrons to detox from a day's stress. Drinks are reasonably priced. Clean and modern cozy atmosphere with very good acoustics. N.B. The Nexus Lounge specifically serves as a lounge and venue space for performing musicians, singers, comedians, and the able articulate artists, it is not a dance venue. This Nexus Lounge has served notable performances as American Idol finalist Anwar Robinson; comedian John Fugelsang, Golden Globe Award winning actresses, and Grammy nominated singers, and poets from The Best American Poetry anthology. A full service bar is located within the lower level Nexus Lounge without trekking to the restaurant's main dinning area. Service is attentive and able to fulfill patrons' requests. I'd recommend dressy attire or business casual, surely not jeans, not sneakers, nor unkempt presentation. Restrooms are modern decor but somewhat small space. As the Power of One, with abundant sunshine and enchantment, I am awaken to new chapters now. read more

Came here on a Friday night. Had a great time. I'm a little confused with the names of "One and One" and "Nexus Lounge". My understanding is "One and One" is the bar on street level and "Nexus Lounge" is the lounge with dance floor and DJ music right underground. As one can expect on a Friday night, the dance floor is packed. Although I come here with some acquaintances, I kind of liked it crowded on the dance floor so my moves wouldn't seem weird. There seems to be no need of cover charge to enter. I had Long Island Ice Tea for more than 10 dollars. Overall I rate this place 4.4 out of 5, so four stars. One suggestion to the owner is that the music on the dance floor is a little bit loud. read more

Contrary to the other reviews, I actually like this place. I had no idea it was a "dance club"... its just a giant loft-like room. Who the hell goes clubbing in East Village?? I had my birthday here on a Tuesday night. We booked and filled the entire space. Drinks were semi-strong but near half the price you'd find elsewhere. The DJ booth in the wall was pretty cool too - however, it being a Tuesday, he was playing 80s/early 90s music. Finally we begged to plug in one of our ipods, and the rest of the night went much better. We planned another birthday here a couple months ago on a Saturday... and it was extremely crowded. People from different parties were inter-mingling but we still had a good time. They let us bring out a cake that we stuffed with a million candles and the entire venue broke out in song. The bouncers were much more observing and cautious this time and ended up (politely) kicking out our drunk, immobile birthday boy around 1:30am. It's not the cleanest of venues, but if you want to have a full-blown out birthday party with no rules, no cover, and a lot of reckless fun, plan it at Nexus. read more

Note to my friends: you are no longer my friend if you have a birthday party here. I mean, really? Awful, awful, awful. First of all, they have this ridiculous rule of not letting anybody put their coats on any of the seats. Their lame excuse? So nobody steals your coat. Okay I don't care how drunk I am, but I'm going to notice if somebody's running off with my coat - especially since I am SITTING ON TOP OF IT. Nope. Nexus Lounge bouncers still think somebody's going to rip my coat from under my butt and rob me. The bar set up sucks. You can literally only order from one corner of the bar. Haha WTF????? If you're looking for a laid back lounge where you can chill with your friends... this is not it. Dark, dank and filled to the brim with new legals and their new-found sexuality (read: those who just got their licenses to prove they can drink, wearing bras for shirts, and shirts for skirts), this place is best left for those looking to hook up and maaaybe squeeze in some dance time. I felt like I walked into someone's basement house party where teens were making out in groups. As for the music... isn't the point of being a DJ is to play new music? This takes the cake for the worst excuse for a dance club in New York. Hands down, no contest. Crowded, with dirty floors (it creeps me out when I'm trying to dance and my shoes keep sticking), and literally, the worst DJ in history. Not even kidding. I'm pretty forgiving when it comes to music at a club -- I don't even have to love the song, just give me a decent beat, I'll be all right. I don't know what this guy was smoking up in his little turntable nook, but he was totally oblivious to the massive group of annoyed people below him who were to carry out a mutiny. In short? One of the better smaller places in the LES that gets passed over by far too many people. Located under the One and One bar, this small lounge/club can be pretty happening on most nights. Even though you would think it would be crowded and uncomfoortable, it never ends up that way. We were always there early enough to grab a table or two to accomodate our coats and party of at least 6 people. Once we established our area, we had a great time dancing and the drinks were reasonably priced. The DJ is usually on par with the most current music and it's not overpowering where you can't hear yourself think. Small bar can be a pain to grab a drink at times but eventually you work your way there and the bartenders are friendly and drinks are strong. Since most people probably don't even realize there is a dance club there, it would be a great place to stat your night, or even end up at if you happent o be in that neighborhood. Never had to deal with a mandatory coat check because we always arrived too eary for that. read more

Fun music and great bartenders. BUT mandatory paid coat check . Had a 33 min wait in unmoving line because coat check guy was on break ( and bouncer was rude). Line did not move for over 30mim. Bouncer told one girl who demanded her coat to either leave without, call the cops or wait. Then told her f$ck off. No apologizes. They forced us to check coats. When coat check man went on break, all the other people who arrived at that time didn't have to check theirs. It ruined the entire night. We missed our next event and ruined the rest of our night. Was a good a night until this. Can't believe I tipped ahead of time! Don't make it a mandatory coat check if you can't provide the service or watch the coats (like I was going to leave a $1k coat behind?) Was interested in booking space for an office event...but can't have my clients go through the same thing. Too embarrassing. read more

another les night. located in the basement of the one and one bar, nexus lounge is hit or miss. lets start with the positives. its free, nice decor (dark, disco lights), ample seating and good music. i've been here twice and both times the dj was spot on. usually the music is enough to carry a lounge/club to at least 3 stars. but wait, lets get to the negative. we get there at 1015, its still empty as it just opened. ok, good music, good layout, as long as douchbags don't show up, it should be a good night. problem #1, the bar set-up. they have a seating area aligned in front of the bar so you can't order it that way. you have to go to the side and order thru the server, who then tells the bartender standing a foot away from you what you're order is. which genius thought of this idea? how bout gettin rid of the couches in front of the bar? so as u can imagine, getting a drink is quite a hassle once the place starts filling up. but u could always go upstairs where its less crowded to order drinks. and fill up it did which brings me to problem #2. it got way too crowded. i dragged my friend (hey jhoanna) to the dance floor and we couldn't even 2-step. so we made our way back to our little corner table where its nice and safe and away from all these clowns who think they could just wile' out with no space. well thats about it. the crowd was actually ok, mostly whites and some asians. there were these 3 asian broads around us dancing. the shorter one with the tank top and white shorts was pretty cute. please be reading this and friend me (from this past saturday?). but i think she enjoyed dancing with her girlfriends a little too much. not that i'm complaining. side note, if you have no booty, u shouldn't pop your ass. its dangerous, u bony whoooore. i can't give it 3 stars just cause i didn't have a good time. good dj tho, keep it up. read more

Great Place to spend a weekend, great Djs and polite staff get there early gets really crowded

After a change in management this place is becoming like Solas, full of college kids and douches. Mostly white. No more hats allowed which i don't get cuz this place is a bar not a club. Example of clubs are 1OAK, Cielo, Marquee, Pacha, Webster, etc The LES vibe are the diversity is now gone and the music is no longer as good. Time to find a new hangout spot! read more

I've been here once for a going away party and stopped by recently while hopping around LES on a Saturday night. It's under the One and One bar which was a crowded bar (early 20's crowd?). They play a variety of music. Overall the place is mediocre, music is mediocre, but it's fun if you're with a group of your friends (then again, what place isn't?). This time around, I think the One and One bar was the better floor to hang out at. read more

eh - I wasn't a big fan. First, it's so hard to find b/c it's actually inside (and downstairs from) the Irish pub One on One. Second, there's a mandatory coat check and quite frankly this is the E. Village/LES - not midtown, so mandatory coat checks need not apply. Finally, it's just tooooo crowded. I got pushed, shoved, and hit in the head several times. Maybe I should blame it on the fact that I didn't wear heels so everyone else was towering over me - but still. Crowd was just ok - there were a lot of skeezy guys mixed in - but also some normal cool people too. On the upside, the music was awesome - a good mix of hip hop, old school tunes, etc etc. Would I come again? You know...I just might..the music is solid and it's easy to get to..plus it's hard to find somewhere good on 1st and 1st. That being said, I wouldn't stay all night - I'd do an hour of this before I moved on to another spot. read more

Went to Nexus for a bday party last night. The company I'm with usually determines how much fun I had, and in that respect I enjoyed the night, but everything else about the club was disappointing. I was made very aware of the fact that I was partying in basically a dark cellar, with the glaring lights above the bar providing most of the illumination. The main reason this place deserves a low rating was the crowd around us...I would have found more attractive and classy people at the local DMV than at Nexus. As my lady friend put it - "This place is a shit-show". The music was average - classic hip-hop spanning back 10 yrs or so. Drinks were slightly higher than the LES norm - $9 for a vodka tonic. One redeeming quality was that the bar staff was courteous and quick, and the guy manning the door let my friend and I in when asked nicely. If you're looking for a hassle free place, this is one of them. read more

i don't know what these people are talking about!! I think this is a great place to hang out!! There's no cover, the dj spins hip hop for most of the night.. The only thing i don't like about this place is that it gets OVERLY crowded.. I'm coming here again! read more
