Came here on a Saturday night for a birthday party. It was a fun experience overall. It's a karaoke bar that has both private rooms and open spaces. My group got a private room which came with the usual amenities of a private karaoke space. The service was fairly quick and attentive. The weather may have affected it as it was a rainy night but surprisingly it wasn't completely packed out for a Saturday night, which was nice. The open space karaoke definitely gets your share of American Idol wannabes waiting for their moment to shine that you would expect a karaoke spot to have. Quite a gem just outside of K-Town with a great public karaoke section and simply delicious delicious. This is my 2nd time here, and 2nd time celebrating a birthday here and it is such a good spot for big or small parties! They do have private rooms and quite a great selection, but the public space really is a great value of pay per song with a cash discount. As a karaoke bar, its great. Very good song selection, great karaoke tracks, and the volume is not too loud. Generally, the public area is a great hang and everyone is very supportive! As a bar with food, the drink selection is pretty good but the highlight is the imported beers on draft served ice cold. All the trappings of a karaoke bar closer to K-Town with really nice service. The food here really has no reason to be this good. I didn't eat my first time around, but made a point to test out the kitchen after multiple people proclaimed how good it was - and they were not lying. The chicken katsu curry was SO good. The fry on the chicken was so perfect and crunchy even covered in the curry. The curry wasnt too spicy, but had a great heat and the rice was heaping and the perfect compliment. Muses 35 is an incredibly unique experience within the vast and growing karaoke movement in NYC. Where do I start? It looks like a decent karaoke place on the outside especially because it's on a weird stretch between 7th and 8th avenues but it fails in so many ways. Here are a few of the many ways: - This is bootleg YouTube karaoke. The employee working told us not to touch the big remote and just use their tablet mounted under the TV loaded with the YouTube app. They must have paid for YouTube Premium so the karaoke videos you searched for were all ad-free. However it seems like they only paid for one YouTube premium account for the whole place that has at least five private karaoke rooms. We kept getting error messages to retry the video because we were already logged somewhere else. - The hour or two of karaoke you pay for gets chipped away quickly because time is wasted searching for a karaoke video via YouTube, and it is impossible to queue up your songs. - Time is chipped away because the worker says you can't use the call button to place orders remotely. You must go down the stairs to place all orders. The worker also wants nothing to do with you once they gave you the spiel about not touching the remote and going to the tablet to look up your songs on YouTube. - Oh, and everyone will have to order something - at least two drinks to be exact. You can't just pay the per hour rate to sing. Each person in the party must order two drinks. And juices and sodas don't count towards the two drink minimum. Roughly, $13 per person before any drinks are ordered. - By the time, you've placed your order and put in your first song, you've already lost almost 15 minutes of time. - There's a timer counting down how much time there is left. No flexibility or leeway to finish your last song. As soon as the timer is at 0, the YouTube app and karaoke system abruptly shuts down even if you are mid-song. I've been plenty of karaoke places around the Manhattan and Queens for the last two decades, but I've never seen one that is run like this. It's almost criminal what they can get away with and charge for "bootleg YouTube Karaoke." I would offer better customer experience in my own living room. read more

Honestly I would not recommend this karaoke place if you want to rent a room. Go to duet 35 instead. The not so terrible: the space is large and spacious in the main bar area, they have food, mocktails, their wings are really yummy, their karaoke room has a window that overlooks the bar area. The could be better: the service! Absolutely appalling service, had to ask 4 times for water, they wouldn't allow us to charge more than one credit card, when they brought the food they didn't bring plates and gave us one napkin each for eating messy wings. At the end I had asked for a box to pack up stuff we didn't finish and the staff member told me to go get it myself. They cut us off mid song and came into the room to kick us out while there were no clients in any of their other rooms. Auto gratuity of 18% and they don't even tell you. So be aware! The worst was their system, you basically searched on YouTube for karaoke versions of videos, wasn't able to make a play list, you can't search while someone is singing so there is a lag after songs. Then there was an error that kept popping up saying their account was being used in another location. They should upgrade. And you have to stand by the tv to put in any songs. Lastly they have a two drink minimum of mocktails or alcoholic drinks ( soda doesn't count) on top of the per person hourly charge even when we were ordering food. For 5 people our bill was close to $400 for 2 hours of singing, drinks and food. Maybe just sing at the bar perhaps will be better. Anyway I won't be back. read more

Truly appalling service. We got a private karaoke room for 20+ people. The bartender was condescending and rude the from the second I walked in. Wondered why, then got the tab and realized gratuity was included and then it made sense (don't need to give real service when you have a built in 18% tip; would have given 25%+ since it was a work event). Save your money and go to another karaoke bar. We were there for a company event and he acted like he was above us all - meanwhile our tab was $1,500. This wasn't a first choice.. or 2nd or 3rd either.. we had a little time to kill before a late night event we stopped into Muses because all the other spots on this block were filled with holiday partiers. So was Muses - lots of folks drinking and getting their song on. We grabbed a spot at the bar - service was a little slow and not overly friendly.. "SWEEETTT CARROOOLLINE.. bah BAH bah.. Good times never seemed so good!".. well, not quite, but it was decent enough. We ordered a couple of drinks - Asahi draft and a Gin Blossom for my friend. Not really interested in Karaoke, I was still trying to follow what was going on over the loud music and horrendous, drunken sing alongs (Not a place for conversation).."Maybe I'm just like my mother.. she's never satisfied...".. Yeah, that could be. The videos would sometimes play for some songs on the screens throughout the place. We order a couple of snacks - beef dumplings and korean seafood pancake. Which seemed to take forever to come out... "Waterloo! Waterloo! Finally facing my Waterloo! whoa whoa whoa..."... Yeah this wasn't the best version of either of these dishes. The dumplings while overstuffed were a bit overcooked and didn't taste all that good. The pancake was a bit greasy and would probably taste better after 3 or a dozen drinks. The best karaoke bar I have ever entered! Excellent bartender and vibes, clean bathrooms, and safe environment. Everyone is so friendly, happy, and kind, I have never felt uncomfortable or unsafe. The bartenders also keep an eye out for you so you can trust leaving your drink behind when going to the bathroom. Prices are incredibly reasonable and super strong. I love it here. read more

CHECK YOUR BILL! Came here for a friend's birthday. The Korean guy who manages the private rooms gave us a brush off saying all rooms are booked and the wait was 3 hours or more. This was at 8pm on a Saturday. I asked again after about 30 min and he gave me the same line. I asked one of my friends who is Korean to go up and ask the guy and all of a sudden they had a room available! If my bday friend didn't want to stay here, we would have left after this racist treatment. In our room, the lights didn't work and the karaoke machine rebooted twice during our two hour stay. Also, BE WARNED: they charge you 18% gratuity on your bill and when they print the credit card receipt, there is a the subtotal and a separate line for "tips" EVEN THOUGH GRATUITY IS ALREADY INCLUDED IN THE SUBTOTAL! We didn't notice this until the next day when we saw the gratuity line and the additional tips! We ended up paying this business with a racist private room manager a 39% tip!?!?!? Fun Karaoke spot near Penn Station/ Midtown West. Happened to walk by and saw a few pockets of space by the bar, so I opted for that straight away. Great seat, front of a TV screen showing the music videos that people were singing to. The energy from the singers were high and all of the patrons were having a fun time. I was chilling here with some of my favorite Yelpers - Mike S. and Mabelle L. We were all venturing to an event shortly so we didn't stay long. The original plan was to hit up a bar a little farther down the avenue but it was holiday party season as this was a week or so just before Christmas 2018. Drinks are a must - 1) it's a great relaxer and 2) it's a Karaoke bar! Gotta cut loose with some alcohol...get the nerves calm and the singing voice up. LOL I was a bit hungry but didn't want to eat much before the next event we were going to attend so we ordered the Korean seafood pancakes and dumplings to share. Both were flavored well and served nice and hot. Had no issues ordering drinks either as the bartenders were pretty attentive. Onto the Karaoke - there were a million song titles to choose from it seems. You do need to pay for a certain# of songs then wait for it to play. It's like a giant juke box! The coolest part is that they play the actual video of the artist you're singing so it's entertaining for the spectators. Yes....I finally stepped into a Karaoke bar...what was I thinking? To alter some Katy Perry lyrics "I tried a Karaoke Bar and I liked it". Terrible joke aside, Muses 35 made it a night to remember. I have always been the one who avoids Karaoke bars like the plague, just never saw the fun in them. Fast forward to a heavy night of drinking (Maybe that might play into it) I found myself in a large oasis of men and women singing various genres of music, ranging from Motown all the way to new hit songs on the radio. While some other reviewers made a note of it, I did not run into the problem that was described as a $3 per song choice. Instead it was more of a bundle deal that was quite affordable, but due to the memory loss (Doh!), I cannot tell you how much it was. Either way, their selection is absolutely massive, so you can spend some serious money here singing from sun up to sun down. They also offer some private rooms for more exclusive Karaoke sessions. As for the bar, expect everything from a simple beer and wine to cocktails are a reasonable price with a happy hour as well! Would I come back, maybe with a little more liquid courage, but I will say my idea of Karaoke bars has started to shift in the right direction. read more

Came here on a Saturday night for a friend's birthday. By far the worst karaoke place I have ever been to. The staff had such a bad attitude and vibe overall. Fairly new karaoke place near Koreatown. Booked a karaoke room to celebrate a friend's birthday. The song selections were good and the drink pricings were fairly reasonable. About $15 for a bottle of soju, $25 for soju cocktails, $9 for Soju Bombs (Beer + Soju). However, things went south when the drinks arrived. We had ordered two lychee soju cocktails. When they arrived at our room, there was a piece of hair on the lychee. When I told one of the staff there, he just brushed it off and said he would replace it. It seems as if the staff just do not want to be there, granted the open area for the bar had only a few patrons and about three of the rooms had parties in them. The bartender, Henry, was probably the only who served us with a smile. Overall, the experience was disappointing. Will definitely not be returning. read more

Let me just start by saying I had no idea what I was fully walking into with this karaoke bar. I came here with some of my bridal party and family and upon arrival we were greeted by a bouncer that said it was 21 and up and he was checking ID's. I did hardcore research before coming here and was told it was any age just that you couldn't drink below 21 obviously. One person in my party was 18, but we pointed this out to the bouncer and he was nice and let us all in. So, kudos for being nice to my bridal party! However, we did not know that it was K POP in the bar until 10 PM. I contemplated leaving but honestly it was one of the best times of my life. People love K POP! The bar was very cool overall, lighting was perfect for a karaoke scene and the upstairs hallways leading to the bathroom was trippy with flashing lights. I loved it. After 10 karaoke for any song people wanted started and it was a blast. I definitely have fond memories of this bar to always remember and 100% will try to stop by again some day. Karaoke was awesome! As for the bar service it was pretty slow and took quite awhile to get a drink. They also stopped serving food early on, so minus a star for those two things. I would love to come back and rent a room for $10 a person. I feel like it would be very worth it for an hour or two. Other than that $3 a song really isn't too bad and it's worth it for the amount of laughter and fun you will have. read more

CHECK YOUR BILL -- as others below have pointed out (wish I had come to Yelp beforehand) !!! Like so many others, I would give this place ZERO stars if I could. The table service could not have been any slower if they tried. It took about 10 minutes to get anyone to come to our table to order drinks and food. Then it took about 45 minutes for the food to come out and all we ordered was edamame and a small order of veg samosa. W-t-F? And there were maybe 12 people in the whole place! I could literally count all of them the place was so empty. And there were about 5 or 6 employees wandering around so it's not like they were understaffed. That's one employee for every two patrons!! My date and I were waving our arms the entire time and trying not to yell since that would be obnoxious. WELL -- perhaps not as obnoxious as this last and worst part.... CHECK YOUR BILL!!! The server will bring you a bill as well as a credit card receipt. The credit card receipt they give you has a "Sub-Total" line with the amount from the bill, and a separate "Tip" line underneath. But if you pay close attention to the bill (shame on me), you will see in tiny print at the bottom that they have already automatically charged you an 18% gratuity and don't note it on the receipt that has the "Tip" line (I didn't notice this until after I was home last night). So I ended up tipping about 40% for the worst and laziest service I've had in memory!!! I feel so used *sigh*. NEVER AGAIN!!! read more

This could easily be the best karaoke bar in the city. But it isn't and here's why. First off, 5 stars for service and space and looks. This place is huge!!! and it is by far the best looking karaoke spot in town. Neon lights, karaoke rooms with see through glass, attractive and attentive bartenders, and did I mention it's huge? Now the negatives: they don't want you to sing at all. They charge $3 per song. They keep the volume at a level where people in the back can't even hear the singers. (Even after we asked politely for a little uptick in volume, they turned it back down after 2 songs) Is this a karaoke bar or is this a library? Came on a Friday night and it was half full at midnight. Do you know any good karaoke bars that are half full at midnight on a friyay night? NOPE. Note to management: If you want to make money, encourage people in your giant ass bar to sing and buy drinks and have fun. Get loud and crazy and start dance parties. If you charge $3 per song and keep the volume low, your bartenders will love/hate you cause they won't make any money but they will get to go home at 1AM. read more

Great location, super cute ambience but $3 person and my friends can barely hear me.. Not worth it. I live karaoke, it's my favourite pass time activity, and thought this place could be in my top 3 places but considering it the most expensive spot I've been to and the staff are not exactly participatory I don't think it can make it to that list. If you're going to be a karaoke place let the singers hear themselves.. You don't even have a stage so the least you can do is let people hear themselves sing no matter how horribly. What a cool new spot to add to the midtown west nightlife. Our friends got a private room for a party and it was extremely reasonable given the quality here. You get a state-of-the-art system here. Top notch mics, sound system, video system and karaoke that even can include music videos. And the rooms are filled with LED party lights and tons of color to really bring the place to life. The furniture is light and modern and makes the whole place feel super elevated vs many K-town establishments that just feel overran, touristy or very dated. This is the karaoke joint of 2018 kids, this is where you need to be. Reasonably priced and attentive bartenders and servers kept the drinks flowing. Imagine paying money to do something you could literally do at home, for free. The service is mediocre too - the staff would rather make excuses for the poor condition of the rooms rather than make the experience enjoyable for customers. One of the best karaoke spots I've been to in the city. Came here to celebrate a friend's birthday around 9pm on a Saturday night. At the time, the place was pretty empty. We were escorted to a pretty decent-sized room for our party of 7, well furnished-room, uptodate equipment, and of course strobe lights. We opted to get the 2 hour package with 1 bottle of alcohol-vodka, 6 beers of our choice while securing the room. We also ordered a few apps to share (including 2 orders of wings-HIGHLY RECOMMEND THEY WERE OFF THE CHAIN, fries, and dumplings-one order beef the other vegetarian). Aside from the wings, the other dishes were not memorable. Song selections are truly endless. Not one song we couldn't find, and plugging them into the karaoke playlist was seamless. The only reason why I took off one star is because 20 minutes before the end of our 2-hour session, we were redirected to a smaller room, more appropriate for the size of our party. We were able to negotiate a deal for the 3rd hour, including a round of shots for the group. That move killed our vibe, but I did see that during our move they were plenty of parties arriving. It's a really nice bar. I went for my cousins birthday and we had the best time! The drinks were really good! The bartenders were great! I would definitely return! Also if you check in, and buy a drink, you get a song for free. I think that's great. The whole group I was with checked in, we all got a free song. And at the end still spent a couple of hundred dollars. My uncle spent $80 alone only on songs. So I definitely think that's a good way to get the night started. read more

They have a wide variation of songs to be played/sung which is really nice. They also have a selection of Kpop too which is a major plus. TL;DR version: really nice interior, the biggest karaoke room I've ever seen, limited English song selection (plenty of K-pop, though), THEY CHARGE SALES TAX ON THEIR DRINKS EVEN WHEN YOU PAY CASH, watch out for laser lights in your eyes. I went to Muses Karaoke for a friend's birthday. I was struck by how nice the place looks -- they did a nice job with the interior decorating. The main bar area is spacious, which made the fact that the place was pretty empty on a Saturday night, glaringly obvious. But I suspect that is because it's new; I wouldn't hold that against them. You can sing karaoke at the bar for $3 per song or in a private room. We sang in a "private" room on the ground floor near the bar. I'm not sure what the cost was because my friend's girlfriend paid for the room. But the room. The ROOM. It was the biggest karaoke room I've ever seen, easily capable of holding 20 people with space left over. I wrote "private" in quotes because the doors and the walls of the room are glass, so everyone at the main bar area can see in. Still, only a little bit of the music from the bar leaks into the room from the main bar, and only when a song isn't playing in the room. The microphones seemed to be set to maximum reverb, though, and we couldn't figure out how to turn it off; that sounded terrible. On the other hand, they had a disposable paper covers, which I thought was a nice touch; I haven't seen anything like that anywhere else. But... they had only a few hundred English songs in their book. Thousands and thousands of K-pop songs, though. Even so, we managed keep ourselves entertained for a couple of hours. But if your karaoke taste isn't mostly mainstream top 40, odds are they don't have your song. They have a standard stocked bar, not much choice in beer, and I didn't even bother to check the wine selection, but hey, it's a karaoke bar, not a drinking bar. Standard prices: $7 bottles of beer, $8 drafts, etc. One thing I do hold against them is that THEY CHARGE SALES TAX ON THEIR DRINKS EVEN WHEN YOU PAY CASH. 99 out of 100 bars in NYC do not do this. This bar does. I understand doing it when paying by credit card, but to do it when paying cash just annoying. The other thing that annoyed me about this bar is that if you're inside the bar facing the window that faces the street (as I was when I exited the ground floor karaoke room), they have these laser lights set up projecting into the bar (from the direction of the street) that will project onto your face and directly into your eyes if you don't shield them. If it weren't for the limited English song selection and the sales tax thing, I would rate Muses 4 stars. read more

Our group decided to stay at the bar instead of getting a private booth since you're able to sing karaoke as long as you pay $3 per song. We didn't mind paying but a couple of the songs we requested weren't in sync with the lyrics. We told the staff but they did nothing to fix the problem or offer a solution (like give us complimentary song instead). Another issue we had with Muses is their drink prices. Fell out of love, hard. My boyfriend and I met here so this was a very special place for us. We loved the bartenders that use to work here and they were always so gracious to us. We enjoyed singing karaoke and having a few drinks. We'd meet all sorts of people while singing and it was really fun! BUT that was a year ago and since then if I could give this place zero stars I would. My boyfriend and I came here for his birthday and not only was the service slow, they denied us from singing karaoke at the bar which was one of the reasons why we loved this place. They lowered the volume to all the mics and only allowed us to sing to two screens which were not very conducive to karaoke at a full bar. We asked several times to raise the volume and we still couldn't hear ourselves. They poured really small shots. We practically brought all the business to them that night and our friends also tipped quite generously - all to receive poor service and a lack of hospitality. They ended up asking us to leave at 1am which if you look at the business hours of this page it said 4am. So I'm not sure if their business is so wonderful that they don't need another 3 hours of business when our friends were still buying drinks and asking to pay for songs. But that's just me, what do I know about business? But wait, there's more. That night I vowed never to give them anymore of my hard earned money but my really good friend wanted to have a farewell happy hour there and because I love her, I had to swallow my pride. I got there yesterday, super crowded and was told that we could not sing at the bar AT ALL and asked us to sing in a room for about 15 minutes. They proceeded to charge each one of the 8 of us $13 to sing. Its bunch of bull crap if you ask me but I paid my share and had to run. All in all I'm obviously never coming back here after this review but if they don't change their practices and train these new bartenders to have the same hospitality as their predecessors, I'm afraid this business will have much to regret about - including losing good customers like my boyfriend and me. read more
