After being at the bar for an hour, the bartender kicked us out for no apparent reason. She got security involved. We were all very confused but complied and ordered Ubers immediately. They wouldn't let us wait inside for our Ubers and made us fully leave. We were the only people at the bar and after we left she started cleaning up and shutting down the bar. She could have just told us it was closing time I have no idea why security needed to be involved. I won't be coming back. read more

Here's another stop during our Halloween bar crawl , not a very big place & it was crazy jammed packed.. what a mess. barely any room to move let alone alone stand & have drinks, we manage to get drinks, stuck to beer & had some Stella & Jello shots since they were part of the special during the bar crawl. Good beer hard to go wrong, Jello shots were actually decent not bad good alcohol taste. we manage to hang here for a few, long enough to finish our drinks .. decent music playing, service was good considering how packed it was & prices were not bad. read more

This was a horrible experience. Me and my two friends came to the bar on Super Bowl Sunday excited to watch the game and were rudely turned away by the bartender that claimed our IDs were "fake"?? She said because our IDs were out of state from different states that they were fake. This is NYC- everyone is from everywhere! We asked her to scan our IDs and she said there was no scanner?? What kind of establishment that serves alcohol doesn't have a scanner? This bar clearly needs to work on reading IDs and customer service. They just turned away 3 customers that will never be returning nor will any of their friends. read more

Ended up at Mama's for my birthday with my group of 15, and I'm so thankful we did. It's not too loud, but they play great music, there was space for my people to move about and mingle, and the unassuming yet trendy vibe is just perfect! It's small, but roomy at the same time. There's a long table that my friends sat at, and some bar stools, along with sports playing on a big projector. It was empty when we got there on a Saturday night around 10pm, so it felt like we had our own place! Can someone say VIP?! It was very cold inside, plus it smelled kind of bad, so I think they should clean their bathrooms more frequently, but besides that, loved it here tonight. read more

Do not trust this bar. I had multiple charges on the credit card I used and when I attempted to resolve the issue, 1) bar never opened on time so I would sit and wait for an hour two days in a row until I had to leave ,2) phone number listed on google goes straight to voicemail, 3) found a different number after a search on google that is a cell phone for I assume an owner who wasn't even on site. He did not resolve the issue and instead argued that it was impossible despite me sending photos of the multiple transactions which he requested. Mama's has crossed a certain threshold since I was last in here. Unfortunately, it is a threshold of stink. I'm honestly not trying to be an asshole, but if I were a bar owner, I would want to know that a fan of my bar came through the doors with a large group of friends and was immediately forced to leave because it smelled so rank. I have a pretty high tolerance for grime in a bar, but I actually couldn't tolerate it. Something in this bar needs to be wiped down, re-upholstered, torn up, sprayed, power-washed, burned, or just thrown the fuck out. read more

This place is great, I come here often. Staff is always on point. I generally come on Saturdays to see Christian because he's GOAT but I'll also come during the week to see Justin. They're all super friendly and really fast at their jobs. This past Saturday Rachel, the manager was working, with a new girl I didn't know but they were super sweet. Side note: I was the one who pointed out the underage kid, as I know him personally. He was not allowed to stay because he is 20 years old and if someone has a problem with that they can blame me and not the bar, who is just doing their job. read more

Mama's serves cheap beer and shots, and a smattering of fancier liquor options (including house infusions, bizarrely). They've got a big teevee, comfy couches, hilarious bathroom graffiti, and Connect Four. I've only had one bad service experience here (among other infractions, the paranoid young man behind the bar demanded that we stop taking pictures. Of each other. On New Year's Eve). But the good news is the fellow in question was fired the day after! The rest of the crew at Mama's is fabulous and pretty to look at, too. This place reminds me of Mars Bar and that's NOT a good thing. I ended up here after departing ways with K and only to be scooped back up again and brought to hell. If I knew this is the kind of place I would end up, I would have called an early night. K came to Mama's to meet his friends up and when we both walked in...we were like ummm this place stinks. LITERALLY! We sat at the end of the bar near the restroom. K gave me a stool to sit in and I said I pass. The stool is so sticky and so K gave me his stool, but his stool was no better than mine. I felt very uncomfortable here...hello you don't take an OCD girl like me to a dive bar! The bartenders here doesn't offer you napkins with your drinks. I hate the fact that everyone here has to touch you when they speak to you. Like, seriously...really! There's only one bathroom - so you have to share it with men and women. I wanted to hurl when I walked in there. What's surprising about this place is, they have a frozen margarita maker. I got one of them, but it's beyond sugary. I came here FOOOOOREVER ago when I was younger and in college. Things really have changed. So there's really only two notable things I have to say about this place. Coming soon. Mama's bar is pretty small, one room, lots of bar stools, but I don't think I've ever really seen a large number of people sitting. Folks are usually standing/mingling. There's an arcade game that's not on, and some sports playing. Drinks are maybe just slightly under city average, which is a good thing. Here's the only two important things though: 1) This place has great music. You'll be grooving and dancing to the pop hits they're playing. It makes everything way more fun. 2) This place stinks; like literally it smells really bad. I don't know why, but it does. The bathroom was suspiciously clean, so not sure where the smell is coming from. If it wasn't raining like cats and dogs outside, my friend and I would have left after the first 10min, but it was so we stuck it out till it subsided a bit, then we booked it out of there. You start to notice it less after 20min, but man, it's just pervasive. They advertise the best fried chicken in ny, but there's no way we were eating any food there. The bar was also exceptionally dirty with water, drinks, and who knows what else floating above the counter top. I hope it was just an off night we went, but not likely to come back to mama's in the next couple of years. read more

My cousin and I came in to Mama's after dinner right across the street at Poco. It was a Wednesday so, it was not too busy but the bartender was welcoming and had a bomb ass variety of music. He let us make requests and he, my cousin and I were all singing our hearts out, along to the music. It was kind of awesome. I ordered a drink before I checked in, got a disco for a brew and shot after I checked in and lucked out with a free drink from some guy who needed to meet a minimum in order to use his credit card. So, I guess I'll add this: Make sure to keep a tab open if you're going to stay for a few drinks. They have a ten dollar minimum for credit/debit cards so, you're best bet is to either keep a tab open or bring plenty of cash. They have some decent specials and all in all, we enjoyed ourselves. read more

I like this place. It's non too fancy, but the prices are some of the best in the neighborhood . The decor is a quirky mix of chotschkis and Xmas lights, complete with some bathroom art that is truly breast-taking (go see for yourself, then roll your eyes at my super lame pun) The bartenders here are a good bunch. They'll play whatever music you want, and put whatever you want on for sports or other TV (lots of flat screens and a big projector screen). Jeff is my favorite. He's great conversation, especially if you happen to be solo. There are more than a few locals that make it a point to hang out whenever he's working. Menu wise, there isn't any food (however you can order for delivery or bring in food from one of the many places close by). The cocktails are tasty and reasonably priced ( all 8 dollars during happy hours) and are made using hard liquors they infuse themselves. If you like Chai tea flavor, I highly recommend the "Filthy Soy Chai" cocktail. I can't stop drinking them. It's a problem. As for negatives ..the biggest one is probably that the bathrooms could use some help. They are kind of graffitied up and gross looking, but that tends to happens in bars around here. read more

This is definitely one of the more chill spots in Manhattan. It certainly has its own unique style (check out the bathroom!) which is clear from the decor and the drinks. For example, the Mama's juice is some ungodly concoction that will knock you on your ass eventually. The mama's beer is nothing special though. The bar opens up the "windows" during the summer and tables are spread around the outer edge of the bar. The setting is cozy and laidback no matter what time of year it is. The bartender's are a lot of fun. Ask them to make a Mama's muff - jalapeno tequila mixed with who knows what, but its great! I also recommend a game of Big Buck Hunter which is sitting in the back. This was a stop on our whiskey walk this year. It's a really fun bar! Bartenders were great, fun music, lots of drink specials advertised on signs around the bar: $5 pickle backs, $8 hot toddy, $3 beers, trivia Tuesday's 8:30. The bar was bumpin and everyone was really happy, adding to the fun vibe. There were stools around the bar and we snagged a couple swivel chairs across the bar - super comfy. The March consisted of 8 different bars and I had no problem until I came here. I had a very racist experience and one of the bartenders automatically took the gentleman's side who snatched a bar stool out of my hand insisting that he was right. Its one thing for a patron to act in this manner but for an employee to do so is a totally different ballgame. Whoever is in charge of the Margarita March next year should x this place out of the line up. Ive been Elite for 5 years and have been to many places all over the 5 boroughs. What a great spot to grab a Sunday afternoon drink. Came by while waiting for a table next door at Root & Bone and enjoyed everything about this odd little bar. The staff was great. Big bearded dude in xmas sweater had us cracking up and was playing awesome music. Manager was in as well and was a super nice guy. The cocktails are moderately priced and tasty. They have a couple of house infused liquors to try. I love dat spice so went w/ their jalapeno infused tequila drink (2 of them). My favorite part of bar is how weirdly decorated it is. I live on the Lower East Side, which unfortunately turns into an orgy of prom queens and jacket-and-jeans fellows on busy weekend nights. So instead of dealing with the mess, I pop up to Mama's - it's close enough, and it's a low key, decent space. It's manageable on even Saturday nights. I can't say I like the three portraits on the wall...but that's my only complaint. Sometimes they have people spinning records in the corner, which amps up the dance factor.
