They didn't tell me it was expired while I was there, let me use half of it, then crossed out the expiration date and made it a date in expire 10/30/25. I was unaware they back-dated it because I was in a hurry to put it in my pocket since I was in rush. Fast forward to today, I went to use it and obviously it wasn't honored because of that new date. I understand that it expired and of course I'm fine not using it since it's completely my fault. It was just the most bizarre experience because 1. No one mentioned it was expired the first time I was there (which I would have been fine paying for my pedicure if someone explained that to me instead writing in a new date so couldn't use it again) Also I'm just not sure why they would give me back a gift certificate that I can't use anymore or never mention that it was expired. 2. What kind of place has a 1 week or 1 month expiration date? (Thinking about it I'm wondering if it the date a typo since it was handwritten because most places around here have a 1 year expiration date when I buy them or am gifted them.) Also my nails were different lengths and the polish I used developed white spots on top (it was a light purple) With so many wonderful places in Montclair, I would definitely consider buying a gift certificate somewhere else with a longer expiration date, a more clear policy, or somewhere that will take the time to explain these dates and policies if you have an issue like I did if you are looking to purchase a gift.

After reading some not so great reviews, I would recommend making your appointment online. If you go to their website, you'll be able to schedule your appointments there. I love it because there are some salons that try and make you keep the same appointment every two weeks. For me with my busy schedule, it's really hard for me on a weekly basis to know when I am available. Scheduling online makes it super helpful and convenient. As for the UV gel, there is a sign in the salon that says "guarantee for 7 days". So yes, you may find that after a week your manicure begins to chip. They encourage you to come in for touchups if your nail breaks or chips. I definitely will not be leaving here anytime soon!

I later found out this was due to them primarily specializing in gel nails, as opposed to acrylics which always come with the sound of drills and the smell of acrylic. I got a gel mani and pedi and was very happy with the results. There was a wide variety of normal and gel polish colors, along with many dip powder selections. The nail techs and owner were very nice and helpful throughout the whole process, joking around occasionally but also providing a calming silence when appropriate. They gave me good advice about color choices and my nail tech shaped and painted my nails perfectly! I've been to salons where the techs are kind of pushy and shoot down your input while they're painting your nails, but this salon was definitely not like that. I was concerned about my color being too see-through and my nail tech immediately corrected the issue by offering to paint another coat. They give you a shoulder massage at the end of your mani and have a pretty in-depth pedicure which includes hot stone massage and hot oil treatments for your heel which overall make the experience much more "pampering" and spa-like than the average nail salon. All of this combined with their very reasonable prices made my experience very enjoyable. I will definitely be recommend this salon to my friends!

I continued to get my pedicures from here because she consistently scrubs the foot well. I've been going to her for 2 years. When I did get my nails done by her she was very precise. Showing her inspo pics and getting g a copy paste type of quality was great. I did say she scrubs the foot well. The pedicures were really good about 70% of the time. I would say the other 30% was over clipping the skin on and around toes, sometimes even swollen at the cuticle. I am relocating again, but unfortunately I will never patron this business again based on my most recent appointment. The salon setup is in the basement of her home in a separate room. She recently got a parrot and it was loose. Squaking, running and flying about. Even after I specifically articulated discomfort (even citing that it's unprofessional), she made no attempt to cage the bird. During the appointment the bird went after my sneakers and when she moved my sneakers to higher ground, the bird went up a cable to get to my sneakers. It was rummaging through drawers at the desk where she takes nail appointments and even flew up and was perched atop the desk. Completely disgusted by this experience. All of this on top of being 20 minutes late for my appointment and 40 minutes late for our last appointment. (No mention of any compensation either time). TIPS: Keep animals outside of professional area. Don't beg clients for money for personal matters. Have enough self-respect so that you can treat paying clients respectfully. Offer some type of compensation for significant loss of time (even a 5% off coupon code would suffice. It's not actually about money, but the principle). Would recommend for ppl comfortable in enclosed spaces with animals flying about and have low standards of quality, care, and professionalism. The 1 star is for her consistently scrubbing the foot well. Would have been a 3-star review if it wasn't for the bird whisperer experience. See pics of acrylic nails below
