Our driveway was really a mess and his team did a great job. Very pleased and highly recommend them.

Had the distinct displeasure of speaking to a completely unapproachable woman who answered the phone when I called to speak about some concrete work that is taking place in our neighborhood. I informed her that we were told that we would have to move our cars or they would be towed. However, the door hanger that we got previously to their arrival did not state such information. It simply says "There will be a delay". Nowhere does it say anything or cite any jurisdiction that rules over the towing of cars on private property. When I tried to explain that not everyone has a driveway or the capabilities of moving said cars, she got increasingly irritated. I told her that her tone was unnecessary, and she said, " I will use whatever tone I want." At that point, I ended the phone call as she was so completely unprofessional and frankly one of the rudest people I have ever encountered. She needs to be taken aside and retrained on how to handle customer service and accountability for the lack of necessary information on the door hangers. While I do not doubt that the workers themselves are nice people and do a thorough job. Having her as the first voice of the company is a serious problem that needs to be addressed. read more

Simpson did a professional job on the main part of the driveway several years ago but over time I have found myself to be incredibly disappointed in the bottom of the drive where it is tied in with the road. Apparently Simpson overspeced the job (probably overcharged too) leaving much more extra asphalt at the end of the drive. Instead of putting it on my RV pad which is just gravel, the foreman smeared it into the existing road with no finished professional transition whatsoever. Normally the end of the drive would have a nice edge conforming to the curve of the road. I ended up paying for an ugly patch in my neighborhood road whereas it could have been used for my rv pad. Over the years I have found this quite upsetting every time I look at it and felt I need to report it. Apparently Simpson himself never came out to even inspect his companies work as I would think, since it was done highly unprofessionally. The driveway itself was done very nicely but the transition to the road was an amateur job done while I was not at home to supervise. Unfortunately I have to look at this every day. read more

Driving to work in the Ophir area, I encountered Simpson & Simpson truck doing 15 MPH for several miles. Understanding that there were 2 bicycle riders in front of the truck, I waited patiently for the truck to have an opportunity to safely pass. After 3 stop signs and multiple opportunities to safely pass, three cars had bunched up behind me, also waiting for a safe opportunity. Thinking perhaps the driver did not know there was traffic bunched up behind him, I tooted my horn. INSTANTLY received the middle finger, and the truck shot off at a high rate of speed. When I got to the stop sign at the frontage road (right outside the Simpson & Simpson office) the truck was waiting at the stop sign. I pulled to the right to make the right turn, and the driver in the truck challenged me to 'get out and talk about it'. I called the company, hoping to share the example their employee was making with the road rage incident. A very helpful woman explained that she was working remotely, she would notify the office manager, and someone would call me back shortly. After several hours I received a call back from a man who said 'I was supposed to call you'. After explaining the issue, he informed me that he was the driver of the truck, and started into a string of foul mouthed language. I had hoped that this was a simple occurrence of road rage, and the mistake would be understood once explained. Instead, it seems Mr. Simpson has some significant anger management issues, and some of his other reviews hint at this risk as well. read more

I work in an office in Auburn. Signs were posted stating that we may not park in the building lot for 2 days for re-paving. That's it. I parked away from our building and walked in. I said "good morning" to the men working as I passed on my way in to work. At lunch, I walked out of the building. I was on the phone and noted no one around and the lot looked new and shiney. Looked done to me, though cars were still blocked by orange ribbon from entering the lot. No sign or warning coming out of the building. I stepped out and my foot slid out in 1/2-inch or more of what I was rudely told was NOT TAR (though it surely feels and smells like tar). I fell to one knee and my hands went down into the sludge to stop a worse fall. I went back up the stairs and cleaned up as best I could, went back to my office and called the property manager (who is also at fault for sure). Why no signage? "WET SLUDGE - STAY OFF - Caution"?? "Don't you know about OSHA laws? You can't trap a bunch of workers inside a building without TWO forms of egress! (Yes, exclamation point.) So, I went to the other building exit and looked out. Phew, ok, I can get out. Went back, grabbed my phone and keys and then went to take that walk to my car. Uh oh, now there's guys out there. They got my complaint, so had used orange ribbon stuff to close off the exit at the end of the ramp. The substance (NOT TAR) machine was prepped to start spewing. Says me "Hey, you can't do that while the other exit is blocked - there are a bunch of people working in this building." Says Mike "I have a work order that says lay (tar-like substance) here and that's what I am going to do. I say "I just fell outside the other door when I stepped out - it looked done and there was no sign saying "WET TAR". Says Mike "Why would you be so stupid as to walk on the pavement?" When I called, someone said the office manager would call me back.She did and said she had spoken to Mike. First, she understood why I was upset, but she felt I was "being combative". Her next words were "and, why would you have thought you could walk on the surface?" I am office worker without knowledge of the cheaper/low quality ways to surface a parking lot. In my 62 years, I've walked on plenty of fresh paving and it was solid, NOT A SLIMY TAR LIKE PASTE. If you are a business looking for a parking lot resurface and a lawsuit from an injured passerby, by all means, choose Simpson and Simpson. read more

The crew was friendly and efficient. The work was outstanding. These guys know what they're doing and my 7,500 square foot circular driveway is the envy of the neighborhood. Price, and I did my homework here, was very slightly higher than other bids, BUT WORTH IT! You get what you pay for. read more

I had a great experience with Steve! He even call before our date for the driveway due to an opening. His staff worked well and explained everything. The day of the paving we went to our second home to be out of the way and off the new asphalt. When we came back I hoped it was good but it was perfect! I recommend this company 100%! We made an appointment for Monday this week; Steve was a no-show. When my wife called, he didn't have the graciousness to even apologize. We made another appointment; another no-show. When my wife called the office to complain, we found out that Steve is the owner. It seems he does not value our potential patronage, nor does it seem he has any inclination to improve his level of customer service. Bad business choice, Steve! read more

Don't bother using this company. They do horrible asphalt work and do not stand behind their work. I had a driveway put in for a lot of money (over $14,000) and in less than a year it started cracking because the substrate (underneath foundation) was not done properly. I contacted Steve the owner and at first he offered a small amount of money $1000) to have it fixed by someone else. I told him that it would not be enough to fix the problem and that it was going to keep happening since the substrate was not packed down and done properly. I told him I would get a bid from another company and get back to him. When I called back a few days later to accept the $1000 dollars he offered just to put it behind me, he changed his mind and withdrew the offer stating that I could take him to court. Wow what a way to treat a customer that paid him over 14k!!! I also only saw Steve when he came out for the bid and never saw him again. He was never on the job site when the job was started and never came out to look at the job after it was completed to check the work of his crew. He also refused to come out and look at the cracking and breaking off of the asphalt. He asked me to send him a picture which I did. He obviously does not have any quality control and doesn't care about his customers or reputation. read more
