*a review during the COVID-19 pandemic* It's sad that every review I've written for this place has gone down in stars. I could have given 2 stars but I felt like 1 star reflected the whole experience and situation better. I was craving Thai food for lunch and so my family and I were going to order takeout from here. When we went to the website to place an online order like usual the website wasn't working. Instead, my aunt decided to give them a call to place the order so we would pick it up. The place had been open for about 15 minutes when she called. An employee picked up the phone and when my aunt told her she wanted to place an order for pickup the employee told her that all takeout orders had to be placed online. My aunt then told her how the website wasn't working but the employee still said the order had to be placed online. My aunt then told her that we were going to pick another place for lunch. Like, why would you answer the phone if you weren't going to take an order if someone wanted to place one? I was still craving Thai food so I suggested having it for dinner at the same place to give it another chance. We decided to eat there because it was in the middle of the week and I figured it would be quicker to eat there and have a bigger portion size (like all take out, it feels like you get less when you get food to go). When we got there it was packed and there was only one waitress on the floor taking orders. It was frustrating waiting for her to take our order and just watching her run around. I thought I was going to watch her fall and it literally felt like I was watching the game Diner Dash. It was obvious they were short staffed but even then they still kept letting people be seated when she obviously could not handle how many dine-ins there were already. She was overwhelmed and the way the food came out for each party seemed inconsistent with who ordered first. We eventually got our food an hour after we were seated and a lot of it was lukewarm to cold. We ate our food quickly since we were starving and we paid at the front and left ASAP. We were tired and ready to leave after the horrible experience. I understand many restaurants are short-staffed right now but they need to limit how many people can dine in if they can't handle it. Every party I looked at who dined in that night was not happy. I can't even tell if the food was actually good since we were starving. It's hard to support businesses if they don't even care about their customers and use common sense. read more

Bad service: I sat for a minute and the waitress came to ask if am ready to order. I said no and then, a couple of minutes later, she came and asked again. It's 3 or 4 times in a total of 3-5 minutes that she kept asking if I am ready... I don't speak Thai and I need time to understand the Menu! Bad food: I order a paneng lunch special. I can taste that the pepper was not fresh and went sour and bad.... After the meal: Another lady came with a fake smile and asked me if the food was ok with the bill in her hand. No one cares to ask while I was eating. I understand that they wanted to close the restaurant at 2pm. Then, she came a minute later and checked on the receipt to see if paid the tips yet and took away the dish after. It's rude IMO. read more

I've come here many times, and absolutely love the food! This is just my opinion, but I find it much better than Sala Thai (there's actually no comparison even)... I've tried many dishes here, but my favorites are the drunken noodles, the green curry, the tom yum soup, and the green beans. Of course, you can't forget the thai tea. Everything comes out piping hot, and has a lovely authentic flavor. I'm giving it a 4 vs 5 since the spice level seems to vary every time I go. Sometimes the medium feels like a mild, and sometimes it's so spicy that the food is inedible. I wish the spice was more predictable. All in all, I'd still come here time and time again for those dishes. Truly amazing food, and I'd recommend it to everyone! read more

Given the food is good, but when I realized at home and almost done, I realized that there was no protein! At this point when I'm about done, I highly doubt they would do anything. Really delicious green curry! "Medium" spice has just a bit of kick to it, nothing overwhelming. The side salad is a bit lacking, but I feel like that's par for the course for lunch specials. At least one, if not two, of the servers is Thai. Friendly attentive service even though the restaurant was busy during lunch hour. Will come back to try other dishes. read more

This Thai restaurant is such a hidden gem in Newark!!! First world problems when you can't decide what to have for lunch! Thai food are always my go to guilty pleasure! Simply Thai was recommended by my co worker so I had to try it out. Definitely felt the authenticity right when I walked in. The restaurant was clean and workers were very attentive and friendly. It's always a pleasant feeling when you feel welcomed! Anyways, I ordered their Panang Curry with chicken and it comes with rice, salad and spring rolls. Highly recommended. My favorite Thai restaurant. I've tried other places but this is my favorite!! I love their pad Thai, Kom ka soup with coconut, duck curry, chicken curry , crab fried rice!! Ordered take out today. For my first Simply Thai experience, everything went well. Although, I was a bit shocked that when I stated, "I'd like to order chicken Pad Thai, extra spicy Thai Spicy, please," the lady on the other end laughed and repeated how spicy Thai spicy is, laughed and asked if I was sure I wanted it spicy. I'm a spicy-aholic, YES, I want it spicy! Lol. Within 15 minutes, I picked up my xxxtraspicy Pad Thai. The workers were nice and greeted me as I walked in. They even hooked me up with extra hot sauce, Thanks! The Pad Thai was a pretty good serving. For $9.95, it filled one of those big take-out boxes that is one size, without separators. The Pad Thai here is pretty basic. I liked how the noodles were moist, the chicken was lean, but after adding hot sauce and more of my personal hot sauce, it then had good flavor. The noodles weren't intact, they were broken. I'm guessing that maybe because it was a takeout order it was sitting in the counter for a minute or two? REALLY GREAT FOOD. I've been coming here for years with my family. Today, we got Eggplant Gra Paw, Pineapple fried rice, and spring rolls. Their Tom Yum, Pad Kee Mao, pad Thai, and stir fries are also amazing! One of the best parts is the staff. Me and my family was huge fan for them , love their food so much that in month twice we use to land with almost our extend family and friends. We use to love this place this big time that even after discovering cockroach in their rice we kept coming . Yesterday they tested our patients level to that extent that even after telling owner that we are not going to visit you any more there was no a word of apology. Service was excellent but food was okay. My coworkers and I came here for a quick lunch to see it filled predominately with other workers in the area. They had a lunch menu that offered soup, side salad, and spring roll. We both ordered curries - I ended up with the panang curry. The flavors were there, but the portion was so tiny. There weren't too many pieces of chicken and the curry was only in a tiny bowl. Maybe would satisfy a kid's appetite but really hoped there was more for the price you pay. read more

One night I decided to be "that" customer and ordered Calamari like 5 minutes before closing because my cousin was having a bad day and was craving it. Stuff we got: Soup we got was enough for 2 people $7.95. Veggie curry soup - it was ok, nothing special. Portion was on the small side. Pad See Ew $7.95 - I asked for more egg & broccoli instead of meat, it didn't look like more just the same amount. bogus. Fat rice noodles I liked & the dish was fine overall. Kaang Khew Whan Puck $7.95 - spicy veggie curry. It wasn't spicy enough for us, so we had to ask for the little dishes of spices to add on. Nothing special. Brown Rice $1.75 - It's a dark red/brown rice - tasted fine. Thai ice tea $2.50 - slightly larger than the water glass, not happy with the portion. Tasted fine, just not enough for the price. It was a late night return home, and I was hungry. I didn't want something sweet since I had lunch a long time ago! Exited off Hwy 84, exited Newark Ave, turned right into a shopping center, and came upon Simply Thai near the back half. I didn't think of having Thai food till I saw it. It was 8:45 pm and I figured I'd just make it inside before closing. But .... they're open till 10 pm! Lucky me! I saw the Yum Nur (Grilled steak salad) in the menu, and it was an instant choice - light but salty and spicy with protein to settle my stomach that dessert wouldn't have. The wait staff was friendly and polite. Quickly taking my order, then left me to do my crossword puzzle in peace until the salad came. Plates are set with Iris-shaped cloth napkins, the place is clean and roomy, evoking a calm atmosphere. I didn't use athroom, but I suspect it would be above average. For a quick night bite, I'm glad I happened upon Simply Thai! Will have to return to try out other Thai favs. Updated Oct 11, 2018: Ordered the simple salad with the peanut sauce - OMG! I could have just had that for dinner! Will get that again!!! Had to try the Green Curry and instead of fried tofu got it with fresh tofu.
