It was my daughter's 22nd birthday. She really wanted chocolate raspberry cake or cupcakes. We are all new to the area, having relocated from Alaska. I searched bakeries. Simply Sweets came up as a possible match. We drove from Kelso to Vancouver on a Saturday (they close at 3pm on Saturdays). We made it there at 2:55pm. I was welcomed warmly and assured that my last minute arrival was NOT an inconvenience. I placed my order for her birthday cupcakes and it was accepted graciously and addressed immediately. I did apologize for the last minute situation. They assured me that it was perfectly fine and they would gladly accommodate my needs. As someone that has worked in the food service industry a majority of my life, I want to say THANK YOU for understanding that sometimes things are just last minute. :) I ended up buying the additional sparkler candles ( a bit pricey but also super fun and HEY, it's my baby). Everyone enjoyed the cupcakes. They were delicious. I ended up going back the next week to purchase a sampler cupcake box (dozen). All were delectable and interesting. They offer many different options for desserts and for celebration additions. I was pleasantly surprised by a discount, too, which I am sure is promoted on their website, but honestly I do not know that for sure, but it was a Tuesday :). They are located in a sweet little neighborhood within walking distance from my work. Easily accessible to freeway and downtown Vancouver. They accept cash and credit cards. Yum. I've tried so many bakeries in the Portland/Vancouver area and this is the best and I feel so relieved. Whenever I buy a cake for someone's birthday it's an anxiety filled event because who wants to disappoint someone on their b'day? Either the cakes are so-so or just yuck. I have ordered from this bakery for YEARS. I will never come back. Where should I begin? First off the new way they communicate over email is very frustrating. I sent an inquiry about a birthday cake custom order almost 3 weeks in advance.... The receptionist had zero answers for you, even about how many each size of cake can accommodate how many people. (I feel like this is a no-brainer) and should easily be answered by anyone working at the bakery front desk. Second of all, once I finally got on the phone with a cake designer (4 days PRIOR) to my kids birthday she told me there was a "typo" in the email and the cake would actually cost $300 not $30. With that said, I will never order here again. I got the same cake custom ordered from another bakery with additional 30 cupcakes for 160$. I don't appreciate being ripped off and telling me it would cost over 200$ because of cake designing time. .....like I said I've ordered here for years, well over 5 years and my past orders included cake + cookies + cupcakes and I've never once paid over 300$ for a solid 6 inch cake. RIDICULOUS and OVER PRICED. This place used to be a cute reliable bakery, after this experience I will never come back. Take some advice and go elsewhere, it was a big headache dealing with them. I was lucky to find another local bakery who was able to make me the same cake well under 300$ AND within only four days notice. I wanted to use this bakery a few summers back. However, they were booked solid! So when I got the opportunity to use them for my daughters 2nd birthday I was very excited! I worked with a gal and discussed a simple but custom Disney cake. They even let me sample the flavor of the cake. Which I thought was a nice touch. Sadly though, When my husband and I went to pick up the cake. The fondant cut outs used to display my daughters name looked terrible, nothing even close to a Disney styled letter. I'm actually surprised they thought it even looked good?! My husbands reaction... "It looks liked a 6 year old drew her name." Not quite the reaction I want from my husband given the cost of the cake... So I spoke up and asked them to redesign her name with simple letters. At first they were a bit gruff about it... Then asked for a half hour and fixed it promptly. I had them leave the Disney lettering on the plate for two reasons 1.) It didn't look as bad as my daughters name. 2.) time I picked up my cake on Saturday for a party on Sunday. (Their shop is closed on Sunday) Not sure if that has anything to do with my next issue. The top tier of our cake was fairly good but not great. However, the bottom tier of the cake was very, very dry. All n all I'm not sure if they were just having an off day with my order... Super great place for cupcakes, im sure eveything else is is pretty good but I love getting the cupcakes. This is my GO TO place for cupcakes for birthdays and such, plus they have a "happy hour" on them making them 1/2 off I *think* after 2 or 3pm. Im not 100% sure on the flavors because they rotate them which is great! My only con is they are not open on Sundays, so that can make it a little bit of a bummer only because i love to have a cupcake with my sister with coffee on a Sunday, great place though i really recommend it :) read more

Ordered cupcakes for a birthday celebration. We got chocolate, vanilla and strawberry. Vanilla and chocolate were great (hard to mess up generally), but the strawberry....omg, so so so good!!! Amazingly moist and the frosting was the perfect compliment. (I might have ate 3, lol). I ordered at their shop, they were following health and safety guidelines. It was fast easy and for both ordering and pickup the gals that helped me were friendly and kind. Back in June of this year, I ordered 3 dozen regular size cupcakes for a children's bday party. First off, the cupcakes were DELICIOUS. I say this as a person who is not very fond of sweets. I loved them and so did everyone else at the party. I was able to order and pay over the phone! I was able to choose two different flavors per each dozen cupcakes, loved that. I wanted to like this place because my workplace orders catering often and we like to have sweets after, plus it's local and close to us. I placed an order for an event and was told to pick up today (Monday) when they're usually closed, but that I could ring the doorbell at the designated time and get the order since I'll be scheduled. Idk how many times I knocked and rang the doorbell, I started questioning the pick up day/time thinking maybe I was crazy lol but since I had paid already and there was someone inside making cupcakes I stayed instead of leaving. I stayed outside in the rain for a good 30 min before they opened the door for me. Maybe they had forgotten my order and had just made it? Not sure, but Idk that I'll try them again. They can't even put cupcakes in their to-go boxes in a way that makes sure they're not destroyed on the ride home. I have pictures but for some reason there's not a way I can upload them. For paying $12.50 for half a dozen I guess I can't expect much. I figured that if the one job they had was to transfer the cupcakes from point A (the display) to point B (the box), that it would be done right. Apparently asking that they don't screw up the placement of cupcakes in the box is just too much for a bakery. The frosting was completely removed from the cake portion and difficult to reassemble. About flavor: the Raspberry Fudge cupcake hardly had ANY raspberry in it. It was pretty much just a plain chocolate cupcake. read more

I have no complaints about this quaint, local, family owned bakery. I was in town for a convention at the Hilton and took a few walks around the city center which was a live with music and celebration the entire weekend. When I walked by this shop, it was closed (late on Thursday evening) but knew I needed to come back for a treat for my fiance whom I was traveling without. I made my way back Saturday afternoon, they are open till 3 on Saturdays and there was the whole family (baby in his seat) making pastries. They had a beautiful selection of cakes, brownies and pies. Based on preferences and the owners recommendation I purchased two Marion berry hand pies, a salted caramel brownie and a peanut butter brownie. Everything was delicious, rich and decadent but not overly so. My fiance had to use extreme will power not to eat all the treats at once, they were so delicious. The owners are also super friendly. This was our first time ordering a custom cake here for my sons' birthday party. First, it's a cute little place. I did have a short deadline (about 5 days) for a custom 2 tier cake, but the lady I spoke with on the phone said it wouldn't be a problem. When I went in to actually order and go over everything with a designer, I was a bit surprised they didn't even offer to let me taste a few different flavors. But I had heard from several people their cakes are very good, so I wasn't concerned. Since it was short notice, they said I could only choose from the 6 flavors they had available in the display case that week. Ok, no problem- I chose 2. Again, they didn't offer to let me taste anything. My mistake... I'm gluten free, but I should have asked anyway. The day of the party, we picked up the cake. It was fabulous! Absolutely beautiful design and exactly how we'd described. Then we tasted it... and yuck :( The top tier, which was gluten free, was completely dry. Good flavor, but DRY. Like crumbling. And yes, I know it's gluten free and all, but I have ordered numerous custom gluten free cakes from various bakeries in Portland before. This was terrible. Ok, fine- let's try the regular tier on the bottom. Sadly, same thing... so dry all of the icing was coming off in whole chunks. I'm sorely disappointed that we wasted hundreds of dollars on a dry cake, but it is what it is. All of this to say- it was a gorgeous, albeit super stale tasting, old cake. read more

Love the staff and treats here. Came here on Mother's Day and the cakes were beautiful. Love all the bars and cookies in addition to cupcakes which are the perfect ratio of cake to frosting. The cupcakes are wonderful. They're beautiful and taste so good! I usually buy 1 dozen mini cupcakes which costs $12. I've tried them all but my most favorite is the boston cream. It has the boston cream filling in the middle. Yum! The boxes that the cupcakes are placed into are durable and very attractive. The store is so cute. I had my first visit to Simply Sweets' new location the other day. The brick exterior fits the theme of an adorable bakery so much more than their old locations. The interior is spacious and has the cupcakes on clear display to you know what you're getting. We came in here on Christmas eve to get only a couple of cupcakes, but ended up getting a dozen mini cupcakes. We had an assortment of them, and as usual they were delicious. The eggnog one was my favorite. Red velvet is also up there with the best cupcake they have to offer. The girl who helped us was extremely polite and very helpful.
