I came here on a rainy day in early February. I am dirty from a house remodel, everything hurts, and I'm tired. So, I won't lie, I had REALLY high expectations when I chose this out of all the other options for "dinner". I. Am. Blown. Away. The waitress was patient and answered all my questions. The place is small but clean. They run out of their seasonal, so be aware. My husband paid while I went to the bathroom and he kinda made a comment about 25 bucks for two ice creams, which surprised me as well. Until she gave us the ice cream. My Mt St Helens was three largish scoops with a delightfully large amount of toppings. His ice cream cone came in one of the largest cones I've ever seen. It's thicker and crispier than commercial so I think they make their cones in house! But the rockstar is the ice cream itself. I grew up in the area and so I'm very familiar with northwest flavors. This ice cream is like my childhood in a scoop. The ice cream has enough fats to give a nice mouth feel and I'm not even sure they use Guar gum or carrageenan. The honey tastes local. Even the raspberry syrup tastes like raspberries off the side of a country road that are ripe but not too ripe. That sweet sour taste. I will say I appreciate the menu for always having a couple of non-dairy options for my plant based or lactose free friends. I can comment on the fruity and non-fruity items on the menu since my husband usually tends to get fruit flavors and I trend towards coffee/chocolate. The ice cream here is great whether you go for fruit or more milk/cream based though my one qualm is the price. It is rather steep for what you get though I will admit that is a commentary on today's economy and prices. Service was kind and we were able to grab a seat inside and enjoy our goods. I appreciated their little water station too so you can grab a glass on hotter days and not have to ask the staff/wait in line for it. I don't know why it took me so long to find Ice Cream Renaissance. I lived downtown for awhile and went to the "waterfront" place, and then one on Columbia - which they have some strengths - but since I haven't been able to chew for a year due to a jaw surgery, the milkshake is one of the best things; plus I wanted to find out if this one would bring all the boys to the yard. I started going so often to get a milkshake that I had to get a line item in my monthly budget for it. I also found out today that they see me and are basically like - oh yeah the no lid no straw dude is here. I'm not 100% certain this is the compliment flex I want, but it does make ordering easy. The shop has plenty of seating and even some games you can play - so this isn't a terrible spot for a meet up. Restroom is available and they have decent hours to get you treats throughout the day. I've noted they have one sugar free option which is great, and maybe I should switch over from my go to Cookies and Cream. Get a taste before you buy, and I do love how they have some small scoop options so you can get a taste. An $11.50 milkshake feels steep, and then when I see what my spending pattern has done, I freak for half a second, but then I do realize its value. So. If you are in town or live in Vancouver, definitely come visit Ice Cream Renaissance - if you come often enough you might just get them to remember your order - and you never know, you may also get to enjoy your milkshake with all the boys in the yard. read more

What a great little local ice cream spot. They don't have a slew of flavors, maybe 10, but the quality for the ice cream can't be beat. The peanut butter ice cream was very smooth and the PB wasn't in your face overwhelming which was nice. However, there's a new location at station in Camas that was open and what a treat that was to discover, same good old ice cream with awesome workers greeting you with a smile I was able to get my favorite animal cookie ice cream and Xena. Fast-forward 22 years, we have two (just about grown) kids, and no longer live in Vancouver. But we were recently able to stop by. They are in a new location (across the street from the original), and have new owners. But the menu still has some classics (honey vanilla, now with mango replacing the pineapple, is a personal favorite). The Hubs and I were very disappointed in the quality of their ice cream. The servers were all very nice, but the ice cream should be the star and it did not perform. We shared a banana split so we got to try 3 different flavors (chocolate, strawberry & their honey vanilla). All those ice cream flavors tasted like cheap ice cream without any real creaminess to them and they all had ice crystals in them like it had been hanging out in the freezer too long. The sauces on the banana split were very good at least. It was also very hot out that day (I believe it got to 90 that day) and this place doesn't seem to be air conditioned, either. Kind of odd for an ice cream place, but maybe their A/C was just on the fritz or couldn't keep up with that high-level of heat. It was the time of day when the sun was shining directly into their wall of windows and their mesh shades really weren't helping and there wasn't a single seat that wasn't in sunlight.
