Unfortunately, presentation and a view of the Columbia River are all The Yard has going for it. The sundaes are egregiously priced at over $20 each, and they are not that tasty. We ordered the Peanut Butter and Brownie Bliss, the Brookie Batter, and the Unicorn. The cashier seemed overwhelmed and wasn't friendly at all when we placed our requests. Each sundae was mostly a fake whipped cream...around 3/4 of each creation, and the ice cream once you finally got to it, was not that special. In addition, the brownie on the Brookie Batter sundae was hard and stale. My niece also had stomach issues after eating the Unicorn. What a great place for this area. The service is pretty well organized. You walk in and hop in line. While waiting you are looking at all of the ice cream choices of milkshakes and bowls. You order at the register. And then wait at a table inside or out to hear your number called. Be sure to take a peak at the sign behind the register as to how long the wait will be. My daughter and I stopped in specifically to try out this much talked about milkshake bar. The atmosphere is very appealing, kinda farmhouse meets industrial. We were there mid week around 3:30pm. It was plenty busy but there wasn't a line. We waited for probably 10 minutes to order as the attendants were busy assembling the milkshake masterpieces. While impressive in appearance and fun that you get the adorable pint souvenir glass, $20 is definitely $8-$5 dollars more than they should charge. That being said, I do plan to go back this summer but I would order a sundae instead of a milkshake and would recommend that you share with at least one other person. We split the Peanut Butter Brownie milkshake- to eat it we deconstructed it. We took the brownie with the whipped cream and put it on the plate and then spooned the milkshake with bites of the brownie and cream. The brownie was typical store bought-a bit gummy. The whip cream wasn't real cream. The chocolate shavings attached to the side of the jar with pb were the best part and decent quality-so delicious. My friends and family have been to the yard a few times and I can honestly say it has gotten better over the years. When we first came 2 or so years ago I felt kind of meh about the decadent milkshakes. They didn't taste that good and were way too expensive for not great ice cream. HOWEVER, we just went back and the "pretty in pink" and "oatmeal cream pie" were so delicious. The presentation was phenomenal as always but the flavor was spot on today. Both milkshakes were so so so good and it was hard to share this time around. Obviously people complain about price but the only thing that is crazy expensive is the milkshakes with mason jars which are meant to be an eye catcher which in my families opinion is worth the $22+ every so often. However if you are looking for a quick sweet treat there is tons of other options. The workers were also super great this time around. We waited 20 minutes to find our milkshakes had not even started due to a printer error but they quickly made our shakes once we brought this to our attention and they even told us to grab complimentary cookie dough pops if we pleased. The girl taking our order let us know it'd be a 25ish minute wait, which seemed a little excessive for a couple scoops of ice cream/cookie dough, but we were already there so might as well. I've see them with waits over an hour, so I guess less than half of that wait time is a win. Ended up only waiting about 15ish minutes. The cookie dough was incredibly soft and tasted pretty fresh. The ice cream was spot on as well for the price. Definitely worth checking out again, but going to have to go when there's not as much of a crowd. I'd suggest they put someone on simple scoop duty to speed orders up. Here's how my review is working. My 3 stars is really about 2.5 stars. However I like to give the higher star amount to boost businesses. But here is my reason why: So we got a milkshake for 4 PEOPLE- adults! We looked at the calories and NO we are not watching our weight, but we thought it was just that large! Then to our surprise a small- typical size mason jar was brought to us and it was fairly underwhelming. We got the seasonal Peanut Butter and Jelly for back to school which was $19 plus tax. It was a peanut butter and strawberry jam mixture with an Uncrustable on top. First minus of a star was that we werent told that something was out of stock until AFTER we paid and AFTER we waited 30 minutes. Right before they brought it out they told us that they no longer had the Uncrustable, which was ONE of the many reasons we chose this specific shake. We ended up adding a waffle; and it was cold, soggy, and not great...very bland. Next minus was the taste. After waiting 30 minutes; I expected a milkshake, not a sundae in a cup. It was literally par-melted ice cream. It had very little flavor, almost dry-like due to the overwhelming amount of just peanut butter. In addition; the whip cream tasted like straight butter; maybe they were hoping the sugar would come from everything else- but it was straight butter...disgusting that we scooped it off the top and threw it out. Final Half minus of a star was the service: literally 45 mins for a shake....45 minutes and it wasn't even blended like a milk shake AND it was $19!!! First off, let's just level set. The mint was just the perfect kind of mint that goes with chocolate. Not too toothpastey if you know what I mean. I like that you can buy the size with the mason jar and keep it, but there are other smaller options which is nice. The menu had a lot of options, but I am an avid dark/milk chocolate lover and the options with these flavors weren't super plentiful. I am, however, quite confused by the low overall review! With all the varying reviews on "The Yard" you probably think my 3 star review is a bit of a cop out bc it isn't really great nor is it particularly poor. The fact of the matter is that it is probably the most accurate reflecting on my two trips to this place. Typically when someplace is "hot and new" I give them a lot of credit for long wait times, staff figuring out which way is up etc. when food is being cooked there's typically a learning curve there too. I tried the Yard twice bc I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt. Turns out they're just about average. Your experience and review of this place will be completely dependent upon what you are going here to find. Are you looking for outrageously designed shakes and Sundaes with a keepsake jar to take home or are you looking for high quality tasty ice cream? Unfortunately you won't get both of those here. What you get are some picture worthy desserts that take time and effort to prepare, but they are prepared with sub par ingredients. Ice cream is just blah. You can find better at the super market. The baked goods on some of their specials are akin to the baked goods in the day old plastic containers at Safeway. It's clear choices were made when building this brand. "Create eye catching desserts" but that's where it stops. Between the amount of staffing it takes to run this place and the high rent area this spot occupies there's no wonder the cost for a scoop of ice cream is so high (which would be more okay if the ice cream was better). Bottom line: come for the photo op and to say you've done something with a fun twist.
