I went here for the Winter Wineland weekend, which happened to fall on conference championship Sunday for the NFL. Needless to say I was feeling a need to see the Patriots lose. Well Simi couldn't make that happen, but they did show the game on a big screen. They were also doing the largest pours of the 16 wineries I went to. Thanks for the 1/2 glass! They pleased me not just with quantity, but the quality of their Sauv Blanc and Cab were there as well. One thing I would say is that you need not try and make a dessert wine with chardonnay. I felt like Will Ferrell in Elf after he sprayed perfume in his mouth. Kudos for making a decent Viognier though...my favorite white varietal. read more

If you are in town wine tasting, pay the extra fee for a complete tour of the winery. Simi Winery has a lot of history and the story behind their success if very interesting. Included in the tour are two tastings downstairs and complimentary tastings on the main floor. The pour's were average. I love Simi's 2006 Roseto and had no problem finishing a bottle to myself. I sliced some fresh strawberries and added them to my glass of Roseto - divine! read more

Simi was our first stop in Healdsburg...my chardonnay-loving friend insisted. The chards were indeed good, and we were able to try a few different ones, which ranged from citrusy to buttery on the chard scale. The best part about our Simi stop was Todd (Ted? Tim?), the guy behind the counter. I can't quite remember his name, but he was incredibly helpful, informative, and willing to give suggestions. He also gave us a boffo wine map (ours was fuzzy and outdated), and his highlighter marked the way for our further Sonoma adventures. Thanks T! read more

Simi has a fun event - "Keep on Truckin Wednesdays" each second Wednesday, May thru October. They have local food trucks on the grounds and offer wine by the glass or bottle with music and sitting on their lovely patio with burbling fountain. Part of the proceeds go to support the Healdsburg Food Pantry - classy and useful. Recently there were 3 trucks including Indian, Burgers and Mexican. Would be nice to have some different, more flavor intense food to go with the Simi wines ( the Pinot and Chard were good accompaniments) since Hburgers have some pretty broad palates. As it was, nice folks , a combo of locals and visitors with plenty of families and a relaxed, pleasant evening. There was also someone selling cupcakes but they ran out, so if they are there again, get early! 2 apps, 1 entree and 3 glasses of wine set us back $44, so not cheap eats, but def for a good cause and something different. read more

Made reservations for a tasting and a pizza. We were running behind for our Reso, so we called and let them know of our delay. Upon arrival we alerted that the kitchen was closing but our food would be made . After the server arrived she informed us we were too late for food service and we would be refunded for the food portion of our visit. Which was fine until we were seated next to the oven. Which we watched food being served for the next 45 minutes. It was very insulting to watch food being made and served for 45 after our arrival. This was embarrassing and aggravating after we were told no. Then others we're being accommodating. The server tried to make thing right but was just as embarrassed as we we were. She offered an apology and mentioned it was the chef's call and she was just the messenger. The server even refused a tip upon our departure. We had the table next to us rave about the pizza that arrived after we had been sitting for a while. We had the other table on the other side of us receive food 45 minutes after our arrival. This was very frustrating and embarrassing. I think the chef should be a little more educated about Hospitality. If you make a last call it should be across the board and not to who you pick and chose. I'm in the hospitality / wine business, and moving forward I would not recommend Simi. It's a shame because it had so much potential. read more

We stopped here because we are members of their sister winery, Woodbridge Winery in Lodi. The wines were great, but Karen, our server, was better. We had skiped over one as we moved to taste the bolder flavored Cabs. Karen provided many stories and bits of information as we went through our tasting. As we thought we were finished our flight, she asked us to try a wine in an inconspicuously unlabeled bottle. Tasting is only $10 waived with purchase but we didn't buy any wine because they were overall very forgettable. Like that it's family owned and wines are affordable, people are decently friendly, just wish the wine was more tasty. Cozy tasting room with a fireplace and nice selection of whites and reds. They had a special event going on when we arrived so the tasting room was packed. In spite of the crowd the service was decent. Their reserve reds were a bit heavy on tannins for my palate. I liked their Zinfandel and Petit Syrah and my wife enjoyed the Chardonnay. They also had a nice dessert Riesling. Visit Simi if you enjoy tannin heavy reds or want to tour this winery (tours run at 11am and 2 pm). Tasting fees are waived and you get a 30% discount on wine purchase if you are a wine club member at Ravenswood Winery in Sonoma. read more

The staff are very down-to-earth, the wines are delicious, and the wine list is impressive! The wine club has reciprocal agreements with several wineries in Sonoma, Napa, and elsewhere, which makes it feel like more of a value if you're feeling adventurous. The only challenge is that the winery itself is on the side of a road, and while it's located amidst a wooded area with a lovely porch and fountain, there aren't any vineyard views to take in. Still, the wines are excellent and the location is a great launching point to explore other wine country locations. Definitely worth a look -- and I keep coming back for more! read more

Aggressively bad service: we booked and prepaid for wine and lunch. It was a sunny but cool day. COVID still ongoing and we have a dog and a baby so we requested to sit outside. Despite this being communicated ahead of time, they were completely unprepared. We were the only customers there.... The visitor center is not ADA compliant so we had to carry out stroller and other things up a few stairs. Be aware of this is you can't carry your wheelchair. We had to shout a few times until somebody emerged. This is despite being on time for our appointment. The person was irritated that we wanted to sit outside and said she did not expect this. We had to request that they try to turn on the heaters. None of them worked and they said they did not have any extra propane. She didn't even make an attempt to ask anyone, so this was a little weird. She was clearly having trouble just moving around due to age and poor physical condition, so I felt really bad watching her struggle. So I walked over to one of the basic fire tables they had, carefully cleaned the debris out, and just tried to see if it turned on. She immediately started shouting at me as if I were trying to burn the place down. She started yelling at me about being in private property and needing to follow the rules, of which there were none posted and I was trying to help the poor lady. I asked her to calm down and told her everything was going to be alright. She yell'd back "no it's not!" I made what I think to be a reasonable judgement call at that point that our server was unlikely to create an inviting atmosphere for a nice expensive lunch with wine. So we packed up and left immediately. It's not often that you visit a place whose only purpose is to provide service and you leave in under 10 min after feeling like you accidentally trespassed on someone's property that shoots first and asks questions later. If you're looking for a good unhinged and aggressively antagonistic conversation, the I recommend SIMI. Otherwise, basically anything you could do with your time and money is a better idea! read more

This is a review of my experience, or lack there of at Simi's tasting room. I have always enjoyed their wine, so when my wife's family from Japan visited, I decided to make the drive from Oakland and make Simi our first stop. Walked in, place was empty as it was a Monday morning, the lady behind the counter looked up from her paperwork, didn't say "welcome", "hello" or even a grunt. We stood there for a few minutes, then perused their coasters and nick nacks for sale.. went back to the counter.. still couldn't stir her back to the land of the living so finally just left. read more

I enjoyed tasting the wines at Simi Winery. I even purchased a few bottles, and then to my dismay, I learned that they didn't waive the cost of the tasting. I called to verify that this is their policy, and unfortunately it is. I don't get it. Many wineries waive the cost of the tasting if you purchase some wine. This is not the way a winery should stand-out against their competition! There are so many other wineries with better policies, facilities, and products. I'd say pass on Simi Winery, and I do not recommend it. read more

simi is a really pretty winery in a fancy white house with a nice garden patio. they have a wide selection of wines and some are pretty good (the chardonnay was my favorite). my problem with them is that i find them totally pretentious! they are very strict about their $5 tasting fee and not very friendly. i asked the girl who was pouring what her favorite wine was (for direction on what to taste) and she gave me the lamest answer (with a snobby lilt): "WELL, it depends on a lot of things! who i'm with, what i'm eating, where i am, and what i'm in the mood for." i should have just done eenie meenie minie moe. the old guy with the bushy white eyebrows was very nice. we bought a bottle from him instead. read more

Simi has made tasting fees mandatory for non-members, even with a purchase. In the past, they were one of our favorite stops in and around Healdsburg and Geyserville. We loved stopping in, doing a tasting, buying a bottle for a picnic amongst their beautiful redwoods, in addition to a few bottles to take with us. We also would get our growler filled while we were there. The tasting fees were always waived with bottle purchase, and we always bought 3-4 bottles. No more, though. Tasting fees are no longer waived. The mandatory fee for tasting feels hostile and unwelcoming. Further, the man pouring for us when we were in last knew nothing about Simi's wines. He was unable to answer any of our questions, and in some cases told us things that either made no sense or were demonstrably false. At times told us he was pouring one wine while actually pouring a different wine. He also pushed club membership relentlessly. Very disappointing. I don't see us stopping in at Simi very often now. I hope the trend of Napa-style expensive, impersonal tastings isn't moving northward into the Russian, Dry Creek, and Alexander valleys. read more

OMG,Staff infection at Simi Winery!!! We flew in from atlanta ga to meet friends for the 2012 napa food and wine fest. It was a great weekend of wine food and fun. I would definitely recommend attending. Over a 100 vineyards were open and welcoming. We purchased loads of wine and I joined the wine club at le cream. It was was a perfect weekend except for this place! The food here was tasty and the staff for the most part was friendly too, except for one guy. ( Short, handsome, dark hair, dark eyes, white,effeminate) He was pouring great wine with a bad attitude. When my friend told me he was rude I thought she might have just misinterpreted something he said. I went to get some of a different variety of wine for a tasting in which i used tickets that were given to me for having a wrist band and got him. A bitchy effeminate guy that accused me of getting extra wine tickets. We spent around $4k coming to this event and that idea of getting extra wine tickets never occurred to me cause like the honey badger, "i dont give a shit." We the patrons don't need people to treat us poorly and to be condescending. Its just not good business. I'm a 41 year old man attending a food and wine event with wrist band that says I spent $50 + buck to attend not a 22 year old trying to sneak extra sips of wine to save my money. Over all the events were great. This little bump in the road was short lived but not going to go unmentioned. Stay away from this place if you don't want to gamble with the possibility of a bad experience. Snotty and unprofessional I would skip this place and go to some more professional vineyards that appreciate your business like: le Crema, Shelby, Topeka, amista, medlock farms. Simi, this was a chance to lure new business with good wine, food and music but it has to be delivered with out immature ethnocentricity of your staff. read more

Housemade Pancetta, Broccoli Rabe, & Green Garlic Pizza was paired with the 2010 SIMI Pinot Noir. The wine went really well with this pizza. The slight fruit flavors of red cherry, raspberry, cranberry, plum, and black cherry balanced out the salty pork belly, making the pizza not so shocking to the palate. This wine also has well-balanced flavors all by itself with good structure and perfect acidity. Thumbs up! read more

We came here on a recommendation from a friend whose taste in wine we trust and we were not disappointed. The tasting room is large and warm and the fabulous woman greeting us at the door was worth the trip. She was so sweet and endearing. The wines were really good and the "marinades" that they offer are super yummy, though I must admit, we don't waste them on meats, opting instead to use them as bread dips. I would like to come back and take a tour of the winery building. It seems Simi has a very interesting history. read more

Phil made our day! We're members of Ravenswood (part of the Simi family) and always have wanted to get out to Healdsburg to check out Simi and CDB. So... We maybe too ambitiously crammed it into our first day which started with a SFO fog delay and a long trafficy drive north. We showed up starving and cranky. Phil took us in and within 10minutes we were laughing and enjoying some great wine and good times. We left 100% better than when we arrived and Phil was the reason for it. Wine helps too I guess...and thanks Phil for teaching me that I like Petite Syrah (and can be man enough to admit it!) Hope to see you again soon. read more

The sweetest host poured for us...looking back at my notes around 15 wines...it was a little too much, but I understand when the staff want to show you their wines. The only thing was that none of them really stood out. The price points are good, but still. I did really enjoy their Late Harvest Riesling, which now has won sweepstakes. We had a wonderful experience at Simi. Our friends had heard great things so we stopped by before it closed. The grounds are woodsy and beautiful and the tasting room is nice. The gentleman that helped us was very nice and we tasted 5-6 wines. Our friends joined the wine club so we both got our tasting fee lifted and discounts on wine.
