Came here to try their hot dogs everyone was raving about. The dogs itself are about a foot long but I was expecting melted cheese not krafts cheese slices (bummer). But the hotdog overall was still good. One thing I didn't like was how they wrapped the hot dog in tin foil as they were handing it to me. It has its pros and cons. Pros: it'll keep the hot dog safe from germs. Cons: you have to be VERY careful opening it, it makes a mess everywhere, and it's SO hard to eat. It's pretty pricey here, about $6 for a chili cheese dog but I guess that's average price you would get at the movie theater. They give you big portions of fries and fried seafood tho. Simco's use to be my go-to when I travel through Boston. I ordered a fish and chip plate the other night to eat on my way home and it was TERRIBLE!! When do you guys change the oil? 3 minutes ago I haven't been to Simco's since 2014 but they were the only place open at the time and now I kinda remember why. I got a small steak cheese and mushroom with extra salt and pepper when being cooked lettuce and tomatoes and a slice of pizza. $14.00 really then cash only as well. The slice was ok but the sub was borderline nasty. It tasted like it had no salt and pepper at all then I dug in the sub and wasn't sure if I ever found any cheese at all. Let me start by saying that I am a hot dog addict, nothing in my opinion beats a cheap dog for a quick bite. Simco's is some sort of a local legend, they have been there forever. I guess they have been at the location in Mattappan since the great depression. Well, the hot dogs taste that old. I was hoping, with all the hype, that I would get a really great chili dog here. Nope. A foot-long hot dog, which is nice, but the dog was meh, the chili had beans in it like soup (not chili sauce for hot dogs) and was so gross I had to scrape it all off and eat the hot dog plain in an attempt to save my lunch. The onion rings were dry and unseasoned, the fries with frozen and batter-dipped. The only thing good about the meal was the raspberry lime rickey that the bf loved but I thought was too sweet. To be fair, these are the only things on the menu I have sampled, as I've attempted to come here a couple times for lunch but was turned away because the business is cash-only in 2010. I am a long time supporter of Simco's. I've been going here for years but I think the recent disappointment comes from new management. Similar to commenters below I have been served fish with a rancid/ammonia smell. If any fish smells this way it is best to discard it. So far, twice I have received rancid fish. This is disappointing coming from my favorite fish spot but also alarming after experiencing it twice. This place brings back lots of memories of my childhood. Family trips here were always special. The first memory was the buttery taste of the toasted, two sided bun and that foot long hot dog. Then fast forward to the teen years. This was the after party spot or a place you would bring your teen date after movie. By this time I had progressed to eating burgers and fisherman's platters. I found them last year after coming home from a concert and needing food at Midnight and a delivery Gyro and Raspberry Lime Ricky was just perfect! I called ahead and ordered two hot sausages with ketchup, mustard and onion. When you bite into to it the shin is crispy but the sausage is juicy.
