A fantastic mushroom pizza! We stumbled upon this restaurant about a five minutes walk from the Duomo. It's split into two sides-- one for pizza, the other for fresh pasta and mains-- and the friendly server asks which you prefer, and directs you to the appropriate side. We had a mushroom pizza on the specials menu which was topped with a mild truffle cream and fresh burrata, which was spectacular. Oh and by the way, everything on the menu is organic! We paid ten euros for the pizza, plus a cover charge for an overall cheap but satisfactory lunch. AMAZING FOOD! This small, mostly organic, place is an incredible find. We were headed to another restaurant on one of the insanely crowded streets near the Accademia and got lost. Frustrated and warm, we decided to duck in out of the heat and to avoid the motorcyclists, students and tourists. I had a salad with sun-dried tomatoes, mushrooms, porcini and incredible mozzarella cheese; my partner had pappardelle pasta infused with truffle oil. The homemade bread was wonderful and fresh, and service was attentive without being irritating. The decor is current but not stark--Whitewashed centuries old brick barrel vault ceilings coupled with chandeliers, an assortment of dining room chairs and quirky animal portraits. Was looking for a pizza place close to our hotel and this one had the highest scores on Yelp and good written reviews. Me and the kids liked the pizza very much, the pizza is super thin, but about 1" in diameter on the edge is like a freshly baked bread. I don't want to really complain about it, but it makes the pizza difficult to cut, our 13 year old struggled with it a bit. Basically, it is not a crunchy dough, more like a chewy crust. The service, atmosphere and decore were very cool. If you are used to New York pizza you will find this to be quite different, good but different. read more

Having lived in Florence for several years, this is by far our favorite pizza in Florence. Once devotees of Semolina near Mercato San Ambrogio, we discovered Simbiosi on a recent visit in January. The crust is exceptionally flavorful and the sauce sublime. Not only did we return for a second dinner but we ordered and extra one to take home in our long flight back to California. This resto is incredibly nice to look it and it ends there. Never have I ever dined at a restaurant where they forget the main course for one of us and when we ask when it's coming we're told the kitchen is closed so "what do you want us to do". Wow! If they actually did a quality check this issue would never arise. Once they realized we were genuinely pissed they decided to cook my friend's dish while giving us dirty looks the entire time (the kitchen directly faced us). Understandably my friend no longer wanted to eat after watching the behaviour of the cooks and told them that this was not acceptable and that he would not eat it. Given the hassle we asked them to cover the bottle of wine which was 19 euros - they refused to cover the cost of the bottle however, gave us a 2nd free bottle instead - how that makes sense I have no idea. To top it off it was my friend's bday that day and after being told this they still didn't care. The food is mediocre and we all had different dishes. We were given 2 side dishes claiming they were sides, although they charged those at 5 euro each, without explaining that they are not sides to the mains but chargeable sides on their own. The side salad was repulsive and the side potatoes were decent. All in all, if you're accustomed to a good level of service as is common in N. America and the UK this place will certainly disappoint. Mistakes happen, however, it was their reaction to their mistake that we found absolutely unfathomable. read more

First off, the restaurant is adorable and it is so cozy. I thought the service was pretty as good as they are freshly baking our pizzas. The crust is chewy and soft and the red sauce is delicious. Pizzas can range from 6-12 Euros and are totally worth it. I wanted to stop by their pasta shop but did not have time. This restaurant is two parts: one half specializes in pasta, and the other half specializes in pizza. We were recommended to try both by our hotel, but sadly, we only got to try the pasta. The decor inside is a lot of exposed brick, with a shabby-chic vibe as well as these strange animal portraits on the wall. There are some small tables as well as a much larger communal table right when you walk in. We ordered the pumpkin macaroni, the pappardelle with wild boar, balsamic sliced beef, and pork tenderloin. Both of the pastas were great, the pumpkin sauce was fresh tasting and both pastas were cooked perfectly. The wild boar was a little tough, but still tasty. The sliced beef turned out to be more like stewed beef, which was kind of stringy and tough. The pork tenderloin was pretty soft and the beetroot sauce that came with it was surprisingly good. Overall, great pasta and okay service! The only thing I do not recommend is the balsamic sliced beef. read more

This was one of the worst restaurant experiences I have ever had. The food was good, however, the service was HORRENDOUS. It was not busy when we walked in, and, what looked like the manager, looked visibly annoyed that we did not have a reservation (even though there were plenty of tables open). Once we were seated, no one came to ask what we wanted to drink or order for at least another twenty minutes. While waiting for our food, the manager, waiter, and cook were obviously talking about our group, as we could hear him and see him pointing at us and laughing. We waited so long for our food. The service was slow and rude when they took our orders. IN CONCLUSION, okay food, but not worth it due to the horrible service. You could definitely find a place with better, cheaper food with MUCH better service. And that's the tea. read more

Food is excellent, but the service is lacking. It took an hour and a half in a hot are near the kitchen to get served our first course pasta after our salads. If it was cooler it wouldn't have been an issue, but it was overly hot and other people around us had been served all 4 of their courses. So I've used Yelp for years without writing a review or even having my own account, but my experience was so horrible tonight that I have to warn others about this place. First off, it's a cool space that's been decorated pretty well, but that's about where it ends. I get there around 9 pm with one family member after having passed it walking down the street. We're hungry and something organic seems nice. We wait at the front for about 10-15 minutes before anyone notices us. At that point we should've walked away. The waitress sits us and we start looking at the menu, which is both in Italian and English. My other family member orders the stuffed pepper and the boar with pasta while I just ordered the boar pot roast. We wait, and eventually a different waitress comes with the stuffed pepper and... pigeon. The new waitress keeps insisting I ordered the pigeon. I told her I ordered the boar pot roast and she comes back in a few minutes with the boar with pasta, insisting I ordered that. My family member takes that because they ordered it and I'm stuck waiting AGAIN for my order. They said their food was ok, but nothing special. I have to wait about 15 more minutes and at this point I've been here close to an hour with no food except bread and an order screwed up twice. Finally my correct meal shows up and somehow the boar is both undercooked and dry. I eat the salvageable parts just to get something in my stomach. The original waitress comes back and drops dessert menus on the table but at this point we don't want to hassle with it. She returns and I ask for the check which results in a glare and her returning to angrily drop the check on the table. We paid and immediately left, not wanting to deal with this nightmare anymore. I feel really disappointed in their service and organization after having experienced some of the best service in my life at other great restaurants in Italy. Save yourself a trip and try any other of Florence's amazing restaurants, there's so many to choose from but SimBIOsi is not one of them. read more

The only regret we have about this restaurant is that we didn't discover it until our last day in Florence. The food was amazing, we had the salami/prosciutto/cheese starter, followed by the goats cheese salad and the wild pork. The food was just out of this world. Great flavors and attention to detail. Definitely the best meal we have had in Italy. If you're not into wine then they do a great artisan (craft) white beer. The Tiramisu is to-die-for! The venue is cosy and inviting. My wife and I came upon this restaurant by chance while visiting Florence for the day. After being welcomed by friendly wait staff, we ordered the Funghi specialty pizza with truffles and buratta to go along with a bottle of wine. It was by far the best pizza we have ever had. Not just in Italy, but in our lives. That is a tall statement, but we are being completely honest. It was amazing and we were so sad to come to the realization that we would never come across anything like it again. We highly recommend this restaurant if you are visiting Florence. The owner of SimBIOsi also has a SimBIOsi Street Food little hole in the wall restaurant on the same street- just exit the main restaurant on to Via de' Ginori, turn left and walk until you see it on the right hand side- GREAT FOOD.
