This is authentic, "homemade" Korean food. The last time I had Kimchee this good was when I was stationed in Korea.

We attended Sima for the second time on Super Bowl Sunday. My boyfriend and I are not sports fans and were looking for a laid back experience without a loud TV blaring in the background... boy were we in for a surprise. My boyfriend decided he wanted the endless BBQ, which was priced at a staggering $25.99 a person. I chose to go with a traditional sushi roll. They moved us to the BBQ table and my boyfriend proceeded to pick out his meal selections, but we were constantly interrupted by the staff wanting to prepare his BBQ for him instead of letting him cook it himself - something they told him to do. The waiter never brought us our drinks, and another server ended up asking if we'd ordered our drinks and brought them to us. At one point a server kept coming over and imposing certain meats for the BBQ on my boyfriend and insisted I try them also. I did not order the BBQ. I relented and tried the BBQ. Within 60 seconds of having been told to eat the BBQ by one of the staff, another staff member approached our table and announced loudly to us for everyone else to hear that if I had not ordered the BBQ I was not aloud to eat it. She made a big deal out of humiliating me in front of my boyfriend, and then proceeded to ridicule him about sharing. Round after round of certain meats were imposed on my boyfriend, and then he informed me that the BBQ table had a clear sign that said there was a $20 charge if there was any meat left on your plate. WTF! All this was going on during Super Bowl. And yes... the TV was on and blaring right beside the BBQ table. My boyfriend wanted to go to the table at one point but could not because the whole staff gathered around it to watch the half time show. I think for a bill totaling over $60, this may have been the worst dining experience I've ever had. Overall the food was OK, but the atmosphere sucked. I will never go back. read more

True mom and pop Korean style. I am a addicted to the Kim chi gae...Kim chi stew. It is super hot...super spicy...but has a balance of flavor that is transcendent. Set aside some time to eat...it is best to savor slowly as it comes to you still boiling in a stone pot. As far as service goes...can you critique a mom and pop like a chain? If I could sima more than 5 stars I wouldn't hesitate. Not only is the food AMAZING, the owner and waitstaff are so personable and friendly. I have dined here for about 5 years and I always feel welcome each time I visit. The half off sushi on Wednesday nights is a great deal - the playboy roll is excellent. Their Korean dishes (bibimbap, bulgolgi & kimchi are the few I have had) have incredible flavor and a great portion. If you have never visited sima before you have to make the trip! The first time we went for lunch. We had heard others rave about the sushi so we wanted to try it. My special roll was almost $15 and wasn't anything to celebrate. That didn't even include salad and Miso like most other places. The service was ok but our server had really bad B.O. that made my stomach turn a tad. So first visit I wasn't impressed and felt that I had been robbed of gas money. We decided to give it another try yesterday for the Sushi lunch buffet we heard about. How cool, right? WRONG. The buffet was $14.99 (Seriously?!??? and didn't include the drinks). They had a few choices of meats like chicken teriyaki, mongolian beef, and spicy chicken wings. ALL WERE COLD. The Sushi spread was nothing special at all. It was the same as we get at other buffets that are cheaper and have hot food. We were severely disappointed and will not be going back. We've learned our lesson. I Bottom line - way to pricey for what you get. Go to Saya or China Dynasty for Sushi - much better value! read more

For those who like to eat bbq buffet at #sima restaurant (on Woodman) here is some little fyi: 1- The restaurant has raised the price from $30/person to $35/person 2- They cut back on their meat selections. They used to have bacons and shrimps and several other kinds...well as far as i know, no more bacon and shrimp! They now only have 6 kinds of meat and 4 trays of vegetables. I asked our waitress if they changed the selection, she said the buffet changes everyday so she cant tell which ones they will have. I dont buy that. I have eaten at sima at least 6-7 times and in the past, i had bacon and shrimp everytime i went there. So a little something for you, walk in and check what they have before u tell them that you want to do the buffet. I wish we did that today because we would have walked out. 3- the grills have been used so many times and were scrubbed down to nothing. You might need to ask for a new grill every 10mins otherwise your food will taste burned. Well 90+ bucks for a dinner that i would say it probably costs abt 30-40 max! Here you go, another restaurant made it to our black list. Never again! read more

Mediocre at best. The restaurant is nice, plenty of seating but a tad cold for my taste. We ordered 3 different sushi rolls, soup, 2 salads & tempura. Though the service itself was great the food wasn't worth the $50 price tag. There are several other restaurants in the area that are very similar that serve tastier treats. Sushi came out old, so old that the rice was hard as clay and chewier than bubblegum while being at least a day old. The cuts were large and poorly cut, so the large pieces of seaweed didn't help with the chewiness. The rolls were so loosely rolled that they fell apart as soon as they were touched. There was virtually no fish or filling in the rolls they were so cheaply made and this grand experience cost my wife an I $40 for two or three sushi rolls. It was so disgusting that we took the initiative to make sushi at home and found out how cheap it is to make 12 "expensive" rolls (about $12 and takes 15 minutes). read more

Great, authentic Korean food. Found out they get produce and other products delivered from Chicago which means it is not typical dull Dayton food. This was one of the best meals I have had here. You can tell I am no fan of the food in Dayton coming from DC. Even the miso soup was great. Looking forward to coming back with friends so I can try multiple dishes. My family Loves Sima! Yes the food is a little pricey, but it's totally worth it. The Kalbi with Korean sides is delicious. I always get the firecracker roll because it's simply Amazing! The spices on both the bulgogi and kalbi are very complementary while the meats are both tender and succulent. The sides were not varied but they were good. While this is a little more expensive than Saya in Fairborn, I must say the atmosphere, food, and service make up for the price difference. I had heard good things about this place, and was really looking forward to going here for a friend's birthday. When we arrived on a friday night the place was nearly empty, and by the end of the meal we would know why. My wife and i ordered four rolls; all of them were subpar. Each roll was drenched in sauce to the point there were puddles of sauce on the plates. The fish within the rolls was not good either, which may explain why they used so much sauce. I would tolerate the mediocre rolls if the prices were reasonable, but all of the rolls were very overpriced. The servers were very attentive, and entertaining so i will give sima two stars. They have a good lunch buffet of Korean food and Sushi. Prices are a bit high, but the service is normally very good. One time out of twenty not so much, but we frequent it often for lunch and occasionally for the all you can eat BBQ at dinner. It is very pricey so come hungry and get your money's worth.
