My best friend and I are on a mission to look for a great Korean restaurant in Denver! This is by far NUMBER 1!!! Here's why... 1. Looking at the simple menu thats mostly in Korean, you KNOW this is some authentic shit~ 2. After ordering we get not 4, not 5 but EIGTH different side dishes?! Mind-blowing 3. Their kimchi is BOMB, a must criteria for a good Korean restaurant 4. Big portions and awesome handcut meat for the barbeque! 5. A bunch of koreans at the restaurant, always a good sign, haha! Now the ONLY reason why i gave 4 instead of 5 stars is that they were VERY understaffed so you may not get service thats always quick BUT they are really responsive so just gotta be patient. HUGE portion sizes, delicious food, fair prices, and good service! Appeared very authentic, especially with the little doorbell at the table. Instead of waiters hovering, you just ring the bell and they'll come to you- much more efficient in my opinion. We got the dolsot bulgogi bibimbop, donkatsu, and gamjatang (dinner). At first I thought the prices were kind of high until I saw they give you enough for 3 meals. Very generous meat portions. Flavorful but not overly salted. The banchans were nice- the radish kimchi was really great. The gamjatang has bones so be careful when biting down- be ready to suck and gnaw around the bones It can be difficult to find authentic Asian food with good service but this place has both. This is a solid spot for no-frills Korean food and the portions are very large. Their dolsot bibimbop [hot stone crispy rice dish] was solid as well as their gamjatang. If you go here for one thing, make it the NENGMYUN (cold noodle). It is a MUST. As a Korean, it's hard to find this traditional dish done so well outside of NY and LA, but Silla nails it every time. On my top 5 list of foods I need to have whenever I visit CO. After one sip of the broth, you can tell right away that it was simmered with care - the depth is insane. This restaurant is so underrated! They're so much better under the new management and they deserve a 5 star! I would say they have the best yook gae jang and neng myun in town. The yookgae jang was so flavorful and the meat was super tender. Neng myun broth was also really really good. They also have these lunch special deals for a good price. Solid Korean fare. The kimchee dumplings were fine. The bibimpbap was delicious, with flavorful meat and lots of fresh vegetables. The rice had that great crust formed from the hot cast iron bowl. And the sauce was delicious though not spicy. As the name suggests (it translates roughly into "mixed rice," I'm told), you mix the contents of the bowl and douse it in that delicious sauce and you've got a satisfying meal. The noodles, on the other hand, were quite spicy. We ordered a cold noodle dish that I'd heard was one of their best dishes. It was flavorful with a spicy gochujang sauce on the buckwheat noodles and a hot, horseradish-y mustard sauce on the side that upped the heat level by a lot. My husband couldn't get enough of it. They have good banchan options--I love all those delicious little dishes that come with the meal. Kimchee was good. So were the pancakes. Service was good. They've got call buttons to order, get more water, get beer, etc. But staff also checked in on us regularly. read more

Another MAJOR Success dining out with a big group. Made a reservation for FRIDAY February 18th 2011 for a PARTY of 15 . The restaurant provide us the 2 rooms their ONLY BIGGEST rooms in the establishment. Half of my friends opt to BBQ their own food, while half of my other friends opt for the kitchen to cook their food. This time around, I opt for 1 appetizer of Fried Oyster Pancake, 2 main entrees; 1 order of Galbi and a order of Spicy Sauteed Squid. I like all the food that I ordered, though I so wish there could be more of them especially the Oyster Pancake. The Squid though NOT as SPICY as I want to, was A-OK. I think to make the Sauteed Squid better, if only they put more spice, vegetables and more Squid for that entree. The only downside about SILLA is the service. Though they tried to accommodate to all our needs, I do hope they can provide more waitstaffs in the future for big groups. So the other patrons would not wait for a slightly longer time for the food or their beverages or water to be filled up etc etc. All in all, my friends and I have a good time feasting away our Korean food. First meal in Colorado !!! We were in Korea town and apparently this is a popular Korean restaurant according to my bf's mama. Setting: Hole in the wall joint. You can easily pass through here not knowing it existed. Private lot Kind of run-down - Wish there was a more visible sign Hardly anyone when we arrived so we thought it was closed at first Menu: Lunch special not valid for weekends ! Really ? I thought that was weird since it would bring more profit and people to come here, but that's just me. Soon Tofu Soup is what I ordered. Spicy level is pretty hot, but not unbearable. I believe I got a 5 and it felt like a 7. haha. I do like spicy dishes so I was able to finish my soup ! The sides are great and 'all you can eat' which you can fill up on. Most are healthy and veg-friendly so I was a happy camper. Bf got a seafood bimbimbop which was a generous portion and fun to eat. He didn't really like the raw egg (optional) that had to be incorporated in the dish so he left that aside. Overall, he seemed to enjoy it. I will say though that my bf's mom is Korean and I think her side dishes are way better and more flavorful (not bias) hehe, but this place is decent if you are craving Korean food. Service: Staff was ok. It wasn't too busy for a weekend lunch, but our server barely checked up on us. We had to wait a while for one of of the dishes to come out and it took FOREVERS. Everyone else started to eat, but one of us. I felt bad. When the food finally arrived (late) it was a pretty LARGE portion. Maybe too much for one person, but he didn't complain and seemed to enjoy it. Verdict: 3 STARS !!! Overall, the food was good, but not out of this world. I love this place! They have an awesome lunch special on the weekdays. I highly suggest NENGMYUN, which is a cold noodle soup. The soup is SO flavorful, sure beats the packet meal I've made at home. Bibimpop is also really tasty. Their KBBQ is pretty good. Their meal deals are the best bang for your buck though. I believe you get a choice of 3-4 meats, soon tofu (hot tofu soup), rice, sides, and even a bottle of soju! Always get the peach one, it's the tastiest. The servers are also very nice. With increased price everywhere which is understandable you'd expect the quality to improve if not the same but it was a different story. I love coming here, although I'll admittedly haven't visited as frequently as I would like. The food is always fresh and well-seasoned and makes me feel more at "home" with my Korean family than other Korean BBQ restaurants I've visited in the Denver metro area. The only "complaint" I have is that the service isn't very attentive, but most Korean BBQ places I've been to don't really bother you unless you want something, so it truly doesn't affect the experience a ton. The pork meat smelled real bad like old frozen meat, and freaking chewy like gum. Foods were terrible. The owner's mind was even worse. Silla is my must-go place for their buckwheat noodles(Korean Spicy Cold Noodles). Plenty amount for one person and their broth is legit. Also, if you are looking for somewhere with great Korean bbq atmostphere(especially family-oriented), you won't be disappointed! Variety of sidedishes come out to your table with an order of one entree. For BBQ, I recommend their LA galbi and spicy pork bulgogi. One thing I'm curious is why they don't have LA Galbi on Sundays...Weekend is when families gather around and go for Korean BBQ. Galbi is one of the signature Korean BBQ so I wonder why. I heard their ownership recently got changed but for me most of their food still taste the same and delicious. Coming from South Korea I'm always looking for authentic Korean food and this place is one of the places I come back all the time. read more

Amazing banchan (best I've found in Denver) and cute hole in the wall. No frills, great food.

About a month ago, my friends & I placed an online order for pickup. Wait time approx 45 mins, order goes through, I go to the restaurant to pick it up. I wait another 15 mins and there's seemingly not a single order for pick up so I ask them about it. They respond unapologetically "oh yeah, we can't do online orders today cause one of the workers didn't show up...". Have to insist on getting a refund and even that was a hassle. Whatever, **it happens. Tried again today, placed an order online, made a payment, waited a little under an hour and got there. They say "oh yeah, we can't do online orders right now". Again, they don't even bother offering to refund or compensate for the lost time and being misleading. Okay... then maybe place up a notice or disable your online ordering option if you can't provide that service anymore. I can deal with a mistake or two, but their attitude was basically nonchalant, taking no accountability. Such an unprofessional look. read more

I came here for the first time and it didn't disappoint! There were a variety of sides provided, we liked most of them. We got the spicy boolgolgi and the spicy cold buckwheat noodles. The meat was really good and not too spicy. I honestly have never tried cold noodles but we're suggested from a friend to try them. They definitely did not disappoint and were different! All the portions are pretty big, we had to take home some leftovers. I would definitely recommend both of the dishes. I will definitely be coming back to try the lunch menu. read more

I judge the authenticity of a restaurant by its number of monolingual servers. For Silla, there were no English servers that they asked a random Korean teenager to wait our table... Having had superb Korean food in California and from Korean friends' homes, I must say that Silla's food is mediocre comparably. That being said, it is one of the better Korean restaurants in the area. The BBQ items are your best bet: bulgogi, kalbi, and daeji bulgogi. The bibimbap and soon tofu can satisfy a strong craving, but nothing to wow over. They do give you a ton of side dishes with your meal, so whatever you order, you will leave with a full stomach. When I have Korean food, I can't help but be reminded of the scene from Along Came Polly, when Jennifer Aniston introduces bulgogi to Ben Stiller, who ended up with an irritable bowel syndrome flare-up. No worries, Silla would not give you any irritable bowels, inflammatory bowels, or any other form of bowels. 1 star off: no free brown rice tea 1 star off: had no idea what the drinks menu said, it was all in Korean 1 star extra: so authentic that they had to pull a random teenager to wait our table, maybe they can get her to translate the drinks menu too read more

I went to Silla for dinner with the family for a nice New Years eve dinner. I've been to Silla plenty of times and this place is actually one of my favorite places to go to. When we came into the restaurant, the atmosphere was pretty nice but the room was pretty cold so it was pretty uncomfortable at first. We were seated right away. Our waiter was pretty and attentive. Every time we pressed the button he came pretty fast. So let's get to the food. SO I love Korean food! One of my favorite types of food! So for someone to ruin that experience for me will make me very pissed and so angry! Anyways, we ordered the beef tongue, karubi, and the yukejan. The meat came pretty fast and the side dishes were came with our meal. They weren't the best looking side dishes but they were pretty delicious and we got extra side dishes that we liked without charge. The beef tongue was delicious and I wrapped them in lettuce and miso. DELICIOUS! The karubi was juicy, nicely cut, and the marinade wasn't too sweet, so I liked that :). The yukejan was very spicy and warmed me up pretty quickly. They gave us a lot of yukejan so that was nice :) Overall good experience! I will come again :)! read more

I went here with a friend last night. Food was delicious. I shared the kimchi pancake with my friend, and I ordered the calamari dolsot bibimbap. The calamari was well cooked, and this was the first time my rice was actually crunchy in the stone bowl! The bowls are a little smaller than most Korean restaurants, but I don't hate it. I always end up over eating and this was a perfect serving size. Service, however, was the struggle and the reason why my rating is three stars. It took awhile to get our order in (maybe ten minutes before they took our order) and waited a long time to get our waitress's attention. All I can say is, "you darn well better be hungry!" The portions are huge, absolutely delicious, and reasonably priced. My wife and I have had a hankering for some good... no, great Korean food and made the 8 mile drive to try out Silla. We were absolutely amazed at the serving sizes! The menu has a multitude of different dishes to include rice, noodles, bowls, fish, soups, stews, hot-pot and bar-b-que. The tables all have the circular Korean bbq cook tops to accommodate orders of their variety of bbq. Covers are in place in the event that you choose something else. I had the bulgogi dolsat bibimbap and my wife had the breaded pork cutlet (tonkatsu). There was no description of the "sides" that come with the dinners, so when our very attentive server brought out a delicious clear soup to accompany the bibimbap and 10 - yes, ten small side dishes to accompany our entrees, we were amazed! The selections included 3 different kimchi dishes (perhaps some of the best I've had), a couple different veggies, tofu, noodles, potato, and sliced pork. I probably didn't need to order the fried dumpling appetizer, but no regrets as they were scrumptious! The hot stone bowl of bibimbap was delivered sizzling and maintained the sizzle well into the meal. The mixture of rice, beef, veggies, egg and other toppings were delicious. My wife's serving of cutlet consisted of 2 huge beautifully breaded and browned pieces with the sauce served separately in a bowl (nice touch). Service was prompt, friendly and professional. Covid protections are in place with plenty of space between guests. There was no way we could come close to finishing everything and were provided to-go containers for the food and sauces, which we look forward to enjoying tomorrow. Begin with an order of the North Korean favorite Kimchi Wangmandu - large pillowy dumplings stuffed with spicy, fizzy fermented cabbage. The seafood fans among you will find the sultry, slithery oyster pancakes called Gul-jeon to be another good choice. But then, the tables do have those little grills for a reason, so why not follow your starter with one of their many barbecued items, like short ribs, squid or even beef tongue? You control the meat, you control the heat - hmm, maybe that should be their slogan. But hey, I'm getting a bit ahead of myself. Don't forget that each main course comes with a metal bowl of steamed rice and an array of the ever-changing side dishes called Banchan - which ones will be waiting for you on your next visit? There's only one way to find out... If the idea of doing your own cooking just isn't appealing, never fear - there are a number of other options to be had. The fish selection alone includes monkfish, cod, croaker, and a couple types of mackerel, so you're sure to find one that will push all the right buttons. Then again, you can't go wrong with the spicy soft tofu stew (Soondubu Jjigae), especially since it comes in four different levels of spiciness. Alternatively, you could try one of their casseroles, like the one with beef tripe (Gopchang Jeongol) or the one with large chunks of ham loaf (Budae Jeongol or "army casserole" which was indeed created for American servicemen in South Korea during World War II). A family-run restaurant giving authentic Korean cuisine, the ambience is comforting. This is the best Korean food in the are a, compared to nearby spots like Mr. Kim's bbq.
