I came here many years ago when I first moved to Reno. The staff is so nice! My vet has an online pharmacy which I switched to but they no longer carry the Rx we need. What I like most is not much has changed since I first came here and that's a good thing. I'm not giving 5 stars only because of price. He will suggest lifestyle and nutrition changes, as well as support supplements and occasion medications to mitigate issues. Was referred to Sierra Family Pharmacy for a pain relief compounding cream. I knew they did not accept insurances. Paid $80 out of pocket for the cream. When it arrived it was one ounce of cream. Called them. Their representative said no return policy and that was their cost for that amount. I was ripped off!! Extremely disappointed. read more

In the continuing saga of our issues with this pharmacy, we were texted yesterday that our prescription for our cat was ready to pick up. We drove out there and lo and behold no one could find it. We noted a five dollar charge for delivery had already been placed on our credit card and looked in the delivery box. Guess what they found? Of course, no one was able to explain why it had been relegated to the delivery box when we specifically stated to at least three people that we were going to pick it up from now on. We received the usual apologies for which we queried why be sorry if you have no intention of changing the system and correcting the issues we have presented to you for the last two years? For the last four years we have had our cat's Phenobarbital compounded by Don's, now Sierra Compounding Pharmacy. We have nothing but problems each month when we try to refill the prescription. First, we were told it had to be refilled every two weeks because the solution was only viable for two weeks. When I questioned this because our previous pharmacy filed for a 30 day supply, they suddenly changed it to a 30 day supply. They too, I've lost track of the number of times we've called to see if it's ready, driven to pick it up, only to be told the prescription isn't ready. They even call and give us a day when it will be ready and it's not. And I should also mention the circus with refills remaining as we have been told numerous times we have no refills left. Now mind you, the current medicine bottle says three refills left, but we call our vet, and sure enough, his records match what's on the current bottle of phenobarbital. If this has happened once, it's happened about a dozen times. Most times after an extensive conversation they look it up and find, lo and behold, we do have several refills on file. Because we have made continuous complaints about their incompetence, their service recovery option for us was free deliver it to our home. But this week, my husband once again called about a delivery that was expected last week. He was told it would be delivered today for sure, and when it was delivered not only had the price of the medicine gone up, but there was an additional five dollar delivery fee. My husband called and after talking to four people, got them to reverse the five dollars, but we were advised that in the future there would be a five dollar delivery fee. There are no words to describe the incompetence of Sierra pharmacies. They obviously do not learn from their mistakes and are not interested in correcting them. I can only repeat my first realization that if they are unable or unwilling to accurately fill a s a cat, whose script has not changed in four years, I can only wonder the horrors they create in their human patient prescriptions. One star is too good for them, they don't deserve any stars. read more

These guys are top notch. I used Don's Pharmacy before Sierra compounders opened because they were the only compounders in the area. Thank god for Sierra Compounders because now I never have to deal with Don's again... not to mention they are on my side of town!! Sierra Compounders is everything Don's isn't. Polite. Prompt. Professional. Clean. Don's had knick knacks and products all over their store and you could barely weave your way to the counter. Sierra's is clean and has a great layout. They are EXTREMELY prompt (24 hour turn around even when refill permission was needed from Dr). They always call as soon as the medicine is ready instead of waiting for me to call and "double check" as Don's used to do. I've only used them for medicine for my cat so far but with their excellent service I may switch my own medications to them. They always supply extra syringes for my cats meds and put the medicine inside an outer bag filled with ice to ensure there are no temperature fluctuations as I travel home. I trust them and feel they are a top notch pharmacy and will continue to give them my business. read more

I don't have much cause to frequent pharmacies... so far i've been pretty lucky with my health (knocking on wood pretty hard right now). I usually wind up at supermarket pharmacy or Costco. I decided to try a locally owned business for the usual reasons I do that, and with the hope that I'd find something to like. It worked. A recent prescription was going to set me back over $400. The drug in question does not have a generic equivalent. But the pharmacist was aware of a different medication with the same active ingredient for which there WAS a generic version. They called my doc, and asked for if that would be an acceptable substitution... and then called ME to ask if I'd be willing to accept a $305 savings. I did.... and the substitute worked perfectly for me. I can;t imagine that level of help or service from a supermarket pharmacy or costco. I dont; have much business for em, but I have is theirs for life. read more

This is an amazing pharmacy. Here's the proof: my Mom was released from the hospital late afternoon. She had several prescriptions on release, including a 14-day continuation of liquid (oral) vancomycin - a major-league antibiotic. Our regular pharmacy told us they couldn't order it- and we know enough about hospital discharges to know that we were on our own. A mad dash to pharmacies all over town resulted in a CVS pharmacist recommending Sierra Compounding Pharmacy. These guys absolutely saved the day, working overtime to create the prescription from scratch. It is more than a pharmacy, it's like a medical lab. The facility is spotless, they have a glass-walled lab where the compounding occurs with the pharmacists wearing "clean suits" including head coverings. Pretty amazing stuff! read more

I have a company that bought compounding products from Sierra. I personally never had any interaction with them but during this virus challenge we needed medical supplies to protect our medical staff and our patients. Someone told me on social media that they had just been to Sierra the day before and they had some masks. So I called and was told they were out of them but they would check with there pharmacy at Incline and call me back. They did just that, arraigned to have them shipped to Reno for me to pick up. This was not a big sale for them and probably more time and trouble for them to do this for me. Every company should aspire to have a team that is happy to help and follow up when they say they will. read more

It's a half hour drive here but they are the closest compounding pharmacy to my home. I wasn't thrilled to have to go there to fill my husbands rx. But when I arrived on Monday, I was behind one customer but another employee came around to another computer to help me so hardly any wait. I wasn't sure if our insurance covered so they offered to call. Very friendly and courteous. When I called yesterday to see if it was ready they said it was and told me it was not covered since I forgot to ask. I picked up today and again, very kind and courteous service. I want to like this pharmacy but have had nothing but frustrations and the ball dropped. Last week early in the week I made a call about my prescription and was promised a call back answering my questions. I never received a call back so on Thursday I spoke with someone else about filling my prescription. I asked if it would be ready before the 3 day holiday. They told me they were sorry and it would be done on Tuesday July 5th. The woman said I would receive a call when it was ready. I was okay with that and anxiously awaited my phone call to pick up my medications. By 3:30pm on Tuesday I hadn't heard anything so I decided to call and check in on my prescription. No one had any record of my conversation on Thursday or my order. So on Tuesday, the girl on the phone checked with the compounding pharmacist and said it won't be done today (Tuesday), but they would have it for me by 11:30am Wednesday. I showed up at 11:45am on Wednesday to discover it won't be done until 1pm. I am frustrated that no one seems to communicate with each other or with me when things don't go as planned. **Update: Dawn reached out to me and personally coordinated my prescription. She then had my medications delivered by their driver for free. It has been a couple months and I've had a few refills and modifications to my prescription. I've been pretty happy with the refill process and whenever there is a change I check back often and try to speak with the same person every time. After my insurance decided they would only cover name brand medication (which makes absolutely no sense to me) I had the most frustrating time hunting all over the city for my prescription medications. I ended up calling Don's pharmacy, who were incredibly friendly and helpful. They recommended that I go to their sister pharmacy, Sierra Pharmacy, since I was already in south Reno. I asked when the prescription would be ready to be picked up only to be told the medicine was on back order for the next couple of weeks. Called in a prescription that the program I am on is a type of acid to be administered every night and I did not realize the night before I would be out. Asked the girl if it could possibly be rushed and explained my dilemma. She said sure and mailing would just take a couple days-I do not have a car. I now know they will say and agree to anything just to get one off the phone because it is now 11 days later and no medicine but they have charged my bank account 4 days earlier. They called saying they mailed mine to the wrong address and wanted that one back and then I would get mine. They already have their money but I have missed out on what will now be 13 days of daily treatments-they are closed on Saturday and Sunday so add two more days onto what was to be my "hopefully" rushed order. Its nice to know the previous ladies review was positive because they had hers filled and in her hands in a couple hours the same day and they worked overtime. I was not so lucky. I also found out they had mailed my medicine to some guy who opened it and called the pharmacy. They called but I had an emergency and didn't message until I was able to but I guess overtime to correct their mistake was too much to wish for or dropit off at door or apt. office. I can only trust that it was not tampered with but I will never know because I'm sure I will not get a new bottle. I have not opened his envelope so he will not have anything to worry about. Poor service and why should they care if I won't get it for 13 days (not open Sat or Sun)-it's nothing they personally are needing. I had a very good experience with the extremely professional, polite and friendly staff at Sierra Pharmacy. While it's a long drive out there from where I live, near Lakeside and Plumb, it was worth it (actually, not so bad if one takes the freeway). They were the only pharmacy I could find that had the sufficient supply of a particular medication that I am prescribed monthly, without which I would have great difficulty functioning. Kudos and thanks so much to the folks at Sierra Pharmacy. They, again, saved the day. read more

They sold my prescriptions to another pharmacy WITHOUT notifying me. This is my medications and I should have the option of where I have them filled. I called the pharmacy that they were transferred to and they said I HAVE to fill them there because it is a new prescription now.............if it was a new prescription IT WOULD NOT be there!! I had to use Sierra Pharmacy for a human drug that was needed for my cat. The prescription cost $150 for a 4,000 unit tiny vial of Procrit. I had no issues the first two times I had the prescription filled, but the third time I was shorted. I should get 9 doses for my cat out of a 4,000 unit vial, but with the third vial I only got 5 doses. I called the pharmacy to try and remedy this problem, but they informed me that because no one else has had an issue with their prescription there was nothing they could, or would, do to fix the problem. So in other words, they basically stole my money and called me a liar. I will NEVER use this pharmacy again and I will tell everyone I know not to go there either. I have already informed the vet's office to never send anyone there for scripts. Shame on them for not making it right. read more
