WORST EXPERIENCE EVER!! TIM IS ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE & LEAD US INTO A DANGEROUS CONSTRUCTION ZONE WITH HIGH WATER & STRONG CURRENTS! This should be negative stars. My aunt booked a trip for a river float for my cousin's birthday. There were about 10 of us. The guide, Tim, was completely incompetent, rude, & overall just creepy with the things he said. He kept singing songs about smoking in the morning and getting drunk at night. He also told us an inappropriate story about how he found a guy "jerking off in a crawl space". Aside from the inappropriate comments/ stories, there were multiple signs telling us to exit the river because there was a construction zone ahead. We asked Tim multiple times if we should be getting out soon because the signs were telling us to. He ignored all of us and just kept us floating. We passed by 3 warning signs telling us to get out of the river and we were seeing other people floating get out where the signs were. Then there was one last sign saying "Emergency River Exit Here" and people hanging out by the right side of the river telling us "get out now!" But Tim still just says nothing. Luckily, a random girl hanging out by the water decides to try to stop our group so we can try to get out safely before entering the construction zone but then she got swept away with the current & 4 others in our group and she almost drowned. We told Tim, "this girl is drowning & she needs help!" and he said, "well she's not apart of our group so she's not our problem" as she was visibly almost drowning and literally gasping for help. Luckily, she was able to grab onto my brother's tube and they held onto a branch for at least 10 minutes. One of the group members who successfully got out before the construction zone threw down a life jacket for the girl but she and my brother were still stuck on the opposite side of the river against a concrete wall IN THE CONSTRUCTION ZONE WHERE WE WEREN'T SUPPOSED TO BE. Me, my husband and my dad got swept further down into the construction zone and then finally, at the last minute, Tim says, "get out now!!" as we're already in a complete danger zone. So we all try to get off to the left side of the river as fast as we can to get out. His exit strategy was to grab onto a rock or branch as quick as we could so we didn't go into the rapids and diverted river area. Luckily, we all got out in time but we were literally in an enclosed fenced/ locked construction zone and had to pry ourselves through the fenced area to get out. We had to walk back to the office and tried to talk to Tim & get a refund and he says, "I don't have any money. I'm a terrible person and I want to die. I should just kill myself." (Which is a great thing you want to hear from your "tour guide"). We were also supposed to get a "lunch and drinks" after our float. We were given warm beers in a bag, NO LUNCH and left alone outside on the patio. We walked out of the office after Tim was being suicidal and crazy & he eventually locked himself in the office so we weren't able to talk to him anymore. We were stuck outside wondering how we're going to get back to our hotel because there was no one outside to give us any information. We HAD TO PAY TO GET AN UBER BACK TO OUR HOTEL because Tim would not communicate with us. We also talked to the owner, Jim and he called us liars and didn't believe any of this happened. Can't make this stuff up. Craziest experience I've ever had with any type of "tour guide". During the float, Tim also called a girl in our group "retarded" because she fell off her tube and had a hard time getting back on through the rapids. He was also yelling at her for falling off and said "you shouldn't have let go!" DO NOT BOOK THIS TOUR OR ANYTHING WITH THIS COMPANY!! YOU CAN EASILY (& FREELY/ MORE SAFELY) FLOAT THIS RIVER ON YOUR OWN!!! Save yourself the money and headache. WE DID NOT GET REFUNDED EVEN AFTER HAVING TO CLIMB OUT OF A CONSTRUCTION ZONE!!!! Looking for local adventure times, see Reno by bike. Adventures awaited us by electric bike ride. Now if needed they have "regular bikes," too. When we arrived we were greeted in a timely fashion. A gentleman guided us that while an appointment is needed; he did have a few bikes available just for us. Yay! You are required to place the price of the purchase of the e bike that your renting on your credit card, for liability purposes. Make sure and have enough credit to cover this expense; plus the cost of the ride. The bike expenses was 200 for two hours, which seemed reasonable considering we were on vacation. As we zoomed away from the organization we realized that the cost of the rental should of included a full charge for the e bike rental. While the electric bike does regenerate as you ride without it having that full charge means that your doing some work too. Most of Reno is all hilly terrain and streets, so we have to work it a little to keep the battery pace going. We did loose the electric power for one of the bikes just before returning to the business because the batteries just gave up and needed a fresh charge. Upon returning we were greeted again. The friendliness left the owners face when we informed him of the situation that we encountered while riding. No disrespect towards the owners, but no discounts were offered. We just implied that we were displeased with the quality of the bike and it's up keep, but in the future would not use this particular business again. While the maintenance and battery did leave our ride a little bitter we still had a blast. One must not dwell on the experience of the negative, but focus on the good outcome that came from our journey that brought us to this destination. We were able to ride for a short time and see parts of Reno that would be unavailable under normal circumstances. We had one another and an e bike that performed most of its functions, beyond that it could of been worse. Before renting an electric bike make sure that you check the battery life. Do some research prior to renting an electric bicycle to make sure that it's sound, the tires are inflated, and regular inspections are taking place. One wrong move at these accelerated speeds can mean broken bones or some other serious or irreversible damage to you or someone you love. Make the most of your decision and life. Tim pulled our group out of the water halfway through and told us we could either walk or wait 20min for a ride because our group of 17 wasn't able to hold on to each other for the entire float. This was our family's 2nd time with Sierra, first trip was 2 years ago and they were the brightest spot of our pandemic vacation! Today we went back with two more and it was the very BEST! They give perfect instruction, great tips, we get helmets, life jackets, and very cool tubes! All of the equipment is top of the line and made us all very very pro! The river path is awesome, equal parts serene and fun Indiana Jone's epic adventure! Upon arrival we were Greeted by Tim who was very pleasant, happy, helpful and thorough. The owner Jim however, was extremely rude, did not want to help, did not want to assist he was standoffish he didn't want to validate our parking ticket and it felt like he was bothered we were there as he was trying to close he was not a welcoming at all and he was trying to rush us . We arrived at 1:45pm the website says they close at 3pm. They told us we are not able to rent the tubes instead we had to purchase them for $35 each. Our total bill was $89 ! He charged an additional $19 for the ride up the river . In all reality we could have bought our tubes at a local store and go straight to the river instead of going through this company. When we arrived we were greeted by Tim, Tim was amazing, so friendly, helpful, and informative. However, Jim, the owner, was rude, off putting, and unwelcoming. When we arrived Jim said we wouldn't be able to rent the tubes because they were closing, our only option was to buy the tubes from him and walk them up the Riverwalk ourselves and choose our launching point. Tim offered to stay and wait for us to get back to allow us to rent the tubes but the owner refused to let him stay. Online it says the are open until 3pm. I called about 30 minutes prior to arrival to confirm a few things, we arrived sometime around 1:15pm and they were closing . We ended up paying $35 for each tube and an additional $10 for Jim driving us up 3 miles to the drop off for a total of $89 and rude service, I came specifically for this experience an Jim was even hesitant to validate my parking ticket. The total tubing experience was a bit over an hour, we ended up giving away our tubes and we were back on the riverwalk by 2:45, Jim could have waited for us given that they don't close until "3pm". read more

The gentleman who took us out was wonderful. I did not catch his name, but he took our family on a nice sledding and tubing adventure in Tahoe. He picked us up and provided snacks and beverages for all ages. The vehicle is a fun converted GMC to allow us to hang out and spend time together. We did the snowmobile tour. I'm 64 years old & had SO MUCH FUN! The scenery was gorgeous, of course. The tour was about 2 1/2 hours long. The van picked us up at the casino & drove us an hour to the tour starting point. The staff was courteous & our tour guide was friendly & generous with his great smile. It was taking so long to contact the company for initial reservation (the times listed are NOT operating hours) that ultimately my college-aged son was the one who got through. He encountered a terse representative who rushed him off the phone (but did have time to take the credit card information). Yet, we didn't even received an email confirmation or receipt. So, currently I have not idea WHERE to meet them, the length of the trip is, the full price of the trip, what we are allowed to bring....we know nothing. I've call this company for DAYS trying to reach someone for information. No one answers. No one returns calls. I am going to show up at their office today and see if there's a tour. This place is a joke! Disgusting experience from the moment we arrived from out of town. The E-bikes didn't even work- and they knew it all along. The helmets were dirty, cracked and old. The kayak tour guide was absolutely unprofessional and ridiculous. He joked about keeping our money if his boss didn't show up or take our credit card to the strip club. Short review: unprofessional, rude, and offensive. Our extended family of 20 went tubing down the Truckee river. Owner seemed put out by us being there. Inconsistent directions on what to do when there. One staff member said to do one thing then other scolded us for doing it. Took 80 minutes from our arrival to get on water for our 2.5 hour float that lasted 65 minutes. They required our children to go in rafts. One of the guides, Tim, before the last rapid called two of our kids (ages 8 and 9) whiners and one a cry baby. This pushed our daughter to cry and be afraid of experience. This was the only company in area we found that offers rafting. That said, we would opt to go rafting instead of tubing in future given our experience. read more

We wanted to do a river float and called a week ahead to make a reservation, 39.00 for a 2 hour float took my credit card and set the date and time. A few days later Jim the owner called rudely asking if we wanted to come at 10am instead of 11am because of a 10 party reservation was planned for and wanted know if we wanted to go then. so I said sure. He then stated he needed my credit card number and the price changed dramatically to 69.00 each. I told him I already gave my credit card info and that's not the price listed on the website and the price I agreed to pay. He told me the website has glitches and it's wrong and literally hung up on me!! I was frustrated at that fact!! Just thought oh well we will go somewhere else to rent the tubes.. few days later that number was blowing up my phone, and text messages. I didn't answer let it go to voicemail. It was Jim the owner requesting a call back. I did, he apologize said he'll give me a discount and a shuttle up river to drop off. I reluctantly said ok. On the day we showed up he was not friendly just in a hurry for us to fill out the paperwork and charge my card. Now it was 273.00 for 3 of us, I said what? Well you need a guide what if you get lost up river? I said where's the other party of 10? Oh that was yesterday. So now at this point we're here do we say forget it? Or go? We almost walked away and really should have. His guide was opposite of the owner Jim!! We get up got into the river and the guide was in a kayak and one of us had to hold on to back of kayak and we had to hold onto each others tube.literally all the way down the river! For safety reasons they say well I signed my life away on the release of liability before we began. All the while we're getting our arms ripped. At one point we all at different times let go and the guide had a fit.. hold on to each other don't let go.. the embarrassing part we're all chained in a row and other rafters in area we're passing us in Walmart tubes no life jackets or helmets!! lol lesson learned!! I do not suggest doing business (river float) with Sierra Adventures! It was a disaster from my first phone call. Called the gay men in our group "tinkerbell". Constantly yelled at members of the group if he didn't feel that they were "following his instructions"; if any members of our group let go of each other briefly to avoid hitting a rock he would yell at them and be genuinely upset at the "insubordination". All this horrible dictatorial energy for an easy float down a gentle river that others who didn't book this particular company were doing unsupervised on swan shaped pool floaties. While in Reno for a long weekend, my dad and I were looking for something else to do besides gamble and walk around the casinos. We stumbled upon Sierra Adventures while walking along the river district. With the water levels being significantly higher than they have been in previous years, we decided that we wanted to go rafting. We spoke with the owner, Jim, and arranged to go rafting the following day. Side note: Jim does not have the most warm and welcoming personality. While we were in the shop, we noticed that they also rented bikes. Since we had nothing to do that day we decided to rent two bicycles and bike along the river. Jim gave us a map and suggested a specific trail that we follow. I was disappointed that a majority of the bike trail did not actually stick to the river and instead, took us on several busy roadways and through neighborhoods. Regardless, it was nice to get some exercise and some fresh air. The next morning we came back to go rafting down the river. Since neither my dad nor I are professional rafters, Jim instructed us that we would be going on the beginners level run. Our guide, Carol, was quirky but definitely knew what she was doing. Since the water was moving much faster than it usually does, the entire rafting experience only lasted about half an hour. For the price, I felt as if we should have experienced much more. All in all, if you're looking for something to do in Reno that is outdoors (and you have some extra money to spend that you haven't already lost in the casino) Sierra Adventure might be an option for you. read more

I had a great experience rafting with them. It was my first time rafting and our guild really help us feel secure that we would be fine if we follow his directions. The rapids on our tour wasn't crazy at all. Maybe level 1 or 2. Their shuttle picked us up in front of our hotel. They brought us to their office to pay and sign some release forms then went out from there. They even provided snacks and drinks when we got back. One word of advise...if you make a reservation for a certain amount of people and then that chages let them know ahead of time or they'll charge you for those missing people. I went here on my birthday for a fun adventure. I called and asked if they took beginners, that said yes. I got there and the rude man behind the desk looked at me and implied that I was too fat to kayak. I told him I was fine. A group of tubers and myself piled into a filthy bus with no air conditioning, and we were dropped off at our destinations. The kayak was some cheap inflatable piece of garbage with no support at all. The instructor made me sit in it to see "if I would fit." I was super embarrassed and wanted to leave but my phone and purse were at the office in a basket that was supposed to be kept secure (it wasn't, I found it outside when I got back), so I was stuck. The instructor then put the boat in the river, told and told me to paddle to the other side, WITH NO EXPLANATION OR INSTRUCTIONS other than he'd get PISSED if I didn't listen. He left me floating in the river for a HALF AN HOUR. We started down the river, again with no demonstration of how to kayak, and when I asked questions the instructor told me I was "arguing" with him. He was not a good teacher (I am a teacher, and I know what a bad teacher looks like) and I was a little confused by his instructions. Sometimes when he gave me instructions I'd say, "Ok." He told me to stop, and I said I was being polite by acknowledging him, and I couldn't help myself. He told me I was annoying and had a learning disability. Then he began mimicking me, and each time I asked a question he'd say "ok" in a really weird way. I told him he was inappropriate and offensive. He paddled way ahead of me and ignored me. I started having problems because, NO INSTRUCTIONS and then he started getting angry. At this point I was feeling frightened; stuck on the river with little experience, being led by a person with a serious personality disorder, and anger issues. I tried to leave the tour, getting out of my boat, looking for help, but I was stuck. He started towing me, and I was constantly banged into rocks, and I sliced my arm on a tree. If it was a different person, I would have said it was accidental, but when he got me up on a rock pile where I was flipped out of the boat and dumped into the river...well, that seemed purposeful. I got back in with him shouting at me angrily but offering no assistance, and we pushed ahead. I got back in one piece, but I was shaking and from fear and absolute fury. I told the guy in the office and he basically said I had no proof and that I struggled because I was fat (he was no slim Jim himself). These people are the most unprofessional, unkind, unsafe, DISGUSTING people I have ever encountered. Stay far, far away. read more

This tour was a total joke. I booked a sledding trip that cost $200 per person. I was ok with that because it included "everything" the limo ride to the sledding resort, food and drinks, the tickets for sledding including the tubes and the snow gear because we were on vacation and didn't have any. The limo was a 1970's Suburban that was falling apart and dirty on the inside. The snow gear was old and not proper snow gear. We received rain gear. There was a bag of sandwiches I don't know who made or touched and we were not about to eat them. We were taken to three places. The first place was closed, the second place was sold out and the third place wasn't even a bunny hill. My 18 year old son was embarrassed to go down the hill. It was for young children not adults. Wow. These guys don't need your business so I'd take it elsewhere. We certainly will. We wanted to get a nice tube in today since it's so hot and coming to the end of the season. We only have one tube and didn't have the time to run and buy one so while we were downtown having lunch we thought we'd pop by and rent a tube. Their website says they rent tubes for $9/hour and $19/day and their tubes say rental tube on them. Guy at the desk says they don't rent tubes they only rent bikes. He's not the owner, he's just minding the shop until the owner gets back. There's nothing he can do and nothing he's willing to do. So we wait for the owner. In the meantime a lovely couple was waiting outside to sign up for a tube. They've never been before and we've been dozens of times so I was giving them some river tips and telling them how much fun it is and how magical the Truckee is. They Mr goes inside to talk to the owner. He comes out and says "never mind, this guy doesn't want our business.". Not only will he not rent us a tube, he doesn't want to take the other couple down because "they aren't even dressed and they don't look like they can swim!!" The gentleman wasn't very happy to hear that, he said his wife swims an hour a day. Anyway, we're super bummed. We just wanted to put in at Chrissy at float downtown. You'd think guy would rather make a quick $20 on a Monday afternoon than alienate customers. It's a real shame for a local business owner to be so unpleasant. read more

These guys are the best! We were having a challenging time getting there and they were gracious and got us situated. The float down the Truckee was perfect~relaxing floats for a bit punctuated with small rapids. Not hard but we both felt like we had a good workout from our attempts to negotiate the rapids. It's not the 'put the beer in a tube with your snacks kind of ride. Take nothing with you, spray on the sun screen, wear your life vest and a hat. Can't wait to go again! read more

We were a little late because it was a little hard to find and asked if we could still go, he said yes. We got to the drop off site, and got ready. He gave us busted up helmets and life jackets that did not fit. I will say the tube were nice. After his "instructions" which were not helpful we were off. Once we figured out what we were doing it was great. We got back and he is standing on the bridge yelling at us to hurry up because he needed his tubes back. This is an adventure that we thoroughly enjoyed! From start to finish, everything was very well planned & executed perfectly. The staff were so kind, considerate & very hospitable! Jim was very helpful & thorough with setting up our reservation, as well as time & place to meet. We did the ATV adventure ride & had the time of our lives! Ken had all of our gear ready when we got to the ride site, gave us a brief lesson in safe riding & made sure that we were confident in our riding skills before we were escorted through the beautiful Sierra countryside. Ken also gave us a bit of history of the land that we traveled along when we stopped for photos or snacks & shared a few funny stories, too. We'll definitely be going back, possibly in the winter to take a snowmobiling tour, which they also provide.
