Similar business model, but surrounded with so many more options rather than just Boomtown. Quality/Quantity - Still good, they have been owned by Bass Pro Shops since 2017. Cabela's Club. Atmosphere - Departments - Hunting, Shooting, Fishing, Boating, Camping, Auto & ATV, Clothing, Footwear, Home & Gifts, etc. Additional local departments = Big Horn Grill section, Gun Library, Archery, Aquarium, etc. Also has a conference room. Don't forget to check in your firearms; see picture. Open 7 days a week from 9am to 8pm and on Sundays from 10am to 7pm. Clean restrooms. Plenty of parking. RV parking. Dog friendly. Service - Good. We come every year with our dog and our 4-year-old, and this year we were even able to bring our 4-month-old as well Making an appointment for photos with Santa is incredibly easy online. When you arrive, there are kids' crafts and treats that make the whole experience feel festive and relaxed. It's truly a fun little outing for all of us. This year we got a cute cookie cutter goody. They include a free photo afterward, with the option to purchase additional ones if you'd like. Our dog loves it too -- he gets a treat, and they squeak the dog toy to grab his attention, so his photo always turns out great. It's absolutely worth the drive out to Verdi, especially since we can grab some last-minute gifts while we're there. We also like to shop around when we come and often find ourselves in the camping section. Unfortunately for me, even the sale prices are too high for me. Everything seems to be good quality and lots of name brands. Great for anyone needing sports gear or clothing who can afford it. I drove by this mega sporting goods store for years and had wanted to come by to check out what they have. Finally made it recently. I'm not even sure what I was expecting ... The place is gigantic with very very high ceiling. I didn't see any traditional "sports" stuff for activities like skiing, tennis, basketball, etc. there are taxidermy animals all over the store, deers, zebras, lion, elks, (the now extinct) California brown bear, etc. The main focus of Cabela's sports appears to be killing animals (or fish) for sport. Old white haired rude man behind the gun counter could barely deign to help us. After asking if we had a question, as he leaned back as far away as possible from us, we told him we wanted recommendations on a handgun for newbies. His very first answer: you have to be careful who you vote for. At this point, we do not trust this man to give us any correct information given his hostility. When I emailed corporate, I was promptly answered with a promise that my complaint would be forwarded to the leadership of the Reno location but I've heard nothing but crickets. Grandpa brought me here to do a bit of shopping for my birthday for a good pair of cargo pants. It was very easy to find them and one of the employees was very quick in opening the dressing room for us so that I could try them on! They were very friendly and helpful! The inside of the store was very well organized so it was easy to find anything we need! The atmosphere was very clean and friendly with employees always happy to answer questions and more than a few of them asking to make sure we were finding everything we needed! By the end of our trip I had a very nice new pair of pants at a great price! The material feels great and it fits me perfectly! Grandpa also got himself some nice new shorts as well! So I tried to see if I could order a new gun PDP F-Series Pro-X PMM. The guy behind the counter was rude and seemed very disinterested in helping. Put me on hold and said he would check after 15 seconds or so. He picked up the phone like was in a conversation with somebody else and just hung up on me. I called back just to let customer service know I had bought guns from them before in the past, but that's the last straw for me. I've had bad customer service here before and after being hung up on and then talking to a manager that had no clue what she was talking about and kept defending her employee instead of saying I'm sorry that happened. Let me see what I can do to help. I will take my two grand and take it to shields or somewhere else that has better service. If you know of a good mom and pop gun store in Reno or Carson City please let me know. I'm so done with the box stores. I just don't give a crap. read more

Came in on a Monday at 9am to wait for the chain restriction over 80 to be raised. This store was super clean. Bathrooms were pristine. Sales were all over the place. Found several items with great prices. The cashier we had was super nice. She handled my purchase efficiently. Will definitely make this a stop while in Reno. read more

Not only is Santa's corner of the store beautiful, like you've stepped into Santa's Village at the Nort Pole, AND not only do guests who visit Santa receive a beautiful complimentary photo (advance reservation required on Cabela's website) AND an adorable craft as a keepsake...but Santa's helpers are friendly, kind, and helpful. There was a little issue with the photo printer while we were there, but they resolved it quickly and got those photos back on track! I'd especially like to thank Santa, who took the time to chat with and listen to my kids for the several minutes it took to get the printer back online! It really made their day! One of the largest outdoors stores I have ever visited. The retail environment is impressive with their animal and waterfall displays, and the large hero's clan hall style roof / ceiling. Employees were nice to us when we came in to shop for winter recreation gear. They have some fun snacks, such as Cabela's pure fudge. *Covid-19 review* My family and I have visited Cabela's countless times for various things. They're a huge outdoors store with an outstanding number of clothing, shoes, and equipment in the areas of archery, fishing, camping, and hunting. Prices are in-line with other similar outdoor stores and there is plenty of parking. The staff are friendly and helpful. Plus, there is something for everyone in the family: kids toys, pantry items, decor, a laser gun shooting gallery, a huge fish tank, taxidermy animals through the store making it feel like you're visiting a fun museum. They used to have a fish pond in the back where you could purchase fish pellets to feed the fish. And, they used to have a cafeteria where the menu featured things like sandwiches, salads, burgers, fries, onion rings, and cheese curds. Since Covid-19, they've closed down their cafeteria. But, it was awesome to see this year that they chose to keep their annual Santa event where you could get free pictures taken with Santa on specific weekend dates. Santa kept a face mask on, reservations were needed, and social distancing was maintained. But, pictures were still free and Santa's workshop looked as awesome as ever. read more

Their customer service staff are always very friendly, and especially when you're going in with a baby, you get lots of attention! Nice clean store but prices are high. I spent much of my time at the gun shop trying to find a handgun for a lefty, almost impossible. Most of the guns they carry for for right handed persons, few are ambidextrous and none are for those who must shoot left handed. The employee was rather new and tied to help as best he could but he always went for the most expensive guns. I am looking for an entry level gun for an older person who does not have the hand strength. Many of the guns had tight springs or clips. Prices were on par with other large sporting goods stores. I took at look at the Gun Library of used guns but no one came to help me. So I just browsed not knowing what I was looking at. So I gave the 3 stars for the gun department. If they wan to sell guns they need experienced employees who know their guns. I browsed the rest of the store and they did have a lot of clothing on sale but it was all men's heavy weight items. It is a fun place to bring kids to see all the animals. It keeps their interest so that parents can shop. read more

Placed an online pick up order for a couple items they stated they had in stock at the time the order was placed. The inventory of the product wasn't there.. I was unaware that they order the product for you from a different location if it isn't in store. I most likely would have cancelled this order and gone somewhere else. Keep in mind, they had ordered the product instead of checking with me on how I'd like to move forward with fulfillment of the order (ie. cancel or proceed with online order). It's been a week now and when I came in a couple days ago the same product I had ordered online has been stocked on the shelves. I was curious to know why or even how the orders come through as I didn't and still don't understand how my order placed still hasn't been fulfilled yet, but their in store stock has been.. I asked if there was any way to just fulfill the order by just grabbing the 3 but they said it could not be done. I would have to pay for the 3 then be reimbursed when my order comes in via refund. The thing is I used CLUB member points for half the order which complicated the whole thing. If you're looking to place an online order, I highly recommend calling for a stock check then placing the order or you'll be out of the gear you need for at least one week. Customer service was cool, and I understand they're just doing the best they can to help me. But it's kind of ridiculous whatever system replenishes the in-store product over customer PO. P.S. Club member savings seems to be off, when I purchase club member items I still get charged full price. Not sure if you have to purchase via app or what but instructions are unclear. read more

I was surprised to get such bad service from Cabela's. Every previous interaction has been great: friendly employees that were happy to answer questions, help me choose the right items, and facilitate the transactions. The two older guys working the closing shift on the 12/28/24 were the polar opposite: bad attitudes, poor communication, disregard for customers time, and could not care less about whether they made the sale or not. They were unable to answer basic questions about the products they sell. Customer service does not communicate with the store. I have spent a lot of money at the verdi Cabela's over the years, but if this is how they operate I can no longer recommend this location to anyone. Please manage this store better. read more

Last night Cabela's held their VIP Night for all Club Members. So disappointed! In the past, these were very well done events with some experts in their field there for Q&A sessions, food, raffles, drinks, etc. Being a 'Club Member' means you've decided to get and use one of their Capital One credit cards. Tonight, there was a very small turnout with a few items raffled (electric knife, rod/reel combo), however, anybody that grabbed a stack of tickets and fill out their name could enter the drawing. The refreshments that were supplied were less than stellar - a tray of cookies, a few bags of chips and bottles of water or a Coke. We decided to wander the sales floor and found absolutely no one in the fishing, auto/ATV, shoe areas. Steven was working hard trying to cover the entire clothing department, but when we asked to check a price on something, he disappeared. It was around 6:45, and the guys in the gun department decided to start putting guns away. 2 guys were talking down by the checkout stand at the gun counter and another guy was trying to help everyone else. Wandered over to camping and found it well stocked except for employees. I was needing some info on a Pit Boss griddle but left and headed to the checkout stand to get a few items. Even if you drive 4 hours and show up 10 minutes before closing, the week of Christmas when I'm sure everyone wants to leave in time on a Saturday night. But helpfulness and patience pays off; we were in and out of there with our purchase right at the time of closing. Thankfully, a couple who lost their keys in the store were still behind us, so technically, we weren't the last customers to leave. A little holiday shopping and a visit to Santa all under one roof. We love camping and outdoor activities so we always shop for supplies and camping gadgets that we had no idea existed. Which it seems we learn about some new must-have every time we shop. On this trip we had scheduled a Santa visit. Easy to do right online requesting a date time to social distance with Santa. We were super grateful since we were not quite sure where or how that would look this year since Covid. The experience was super organized. Stickers lined the floor to showcase the safe distance between families/kids. Our time with Santa was great. There was a plexiglass glass between us and Santa and he also wore a mask the entire time.
