This is the super store of outside supplies - everything from camping gear and ammo to goat feed, tools, and clothing. They have spices and freeze dried meals for hiking, and even the meat slicer and dehydrator. This place seems to have it all. This store (Reno) has improved from their beginning years. The are at least 80% more items with an actual marked price now , compared to the bounty of unmarked items in their first couple of years. The store is usually clean and the supply is good. However, you cannot request that they carry certain items because corporate determines the needs of each store. Umm, sure, ok, I'm sure they have the finger on the pulse of our Reno clientele. (Note sarcasm) . My biggest complaint is allowing solicitors outside at the entrance of the store. As someone that struggles with social anxiety, I do not care to interact with strangers trying to convince me to buy/support/boycott/petition anything. I have pulled into the parking lot twice now on different occasions, spotted them outside, and contemplated going inside, but instead decided to drive away and go elsewhere. Please stop allowing this. Surely I am not the only (former?) customer that despises this practice. read more

Clean, organized, huge ranch supply store. Came here looking for Carhartt clothing and they have a large supply. They also have a large variety of Ariat boots for men and women. Much like a Big R store on steroids. I browsed all of the aisles. Lots of animal supplies. They were out of bird blocks, but lots of choices to keep our Northern Nevada wildlife happy. I came here to find a last minute present for my best friend who was having a baby the next day, named Cal I wanted something with his name on it and Cal Ranch popped up- This store has some super cute stuff, along with all the pet necessities But when I asked for some gifts for my friend with their logo on it, Tammy went all out - brought me pens and stickers and found her a Cal sweater, made my gf cry happy tears when she opened it. Unless you are 5 foot even and nothing over a med side in shoe, slipper or clothing don't bother shopping here, if you are a woman! They seem to carry all larger sizes in men's apparel, including shoes and slippers, L, xL, xxL xxxL,xxxxL, Tall, regular, ect...but not for the Ladies!! They seem to discriminate against the taller, larger beauties out there. Also, the young girls running the store in the evenings, could care less about helping a, disabled woman trying to find anything over a size small/med. They would rather sit up front gabbing and laughing, then help anyone! And their, " have a good evening" as we left, as we baught nothing because of their disrespectful attitude, it was filled with sarcasm and snickering, they were appalling!! Great store for everyting outdoors, pets or farm animal devices. Farm mechanical and irrigation devices o plenty! Just about anything needed for horse tack. If you need a portable heater with all types of fuel, this place has the biggest selection. Lots of camping, hiking gear as well. Staff was very helpful and top notch. Congrats on todays Grand opening. Review & pictures to follow. Quality/Quantity - Overall good. Plenty of brand name and private label merchandise.s Atmosphere - Huge warehouse type location. Service - Plenty of NEW people. Plenty of corporate team members who obviously do not spend much time in the stores. But I still appreciate the effort and support the new location. Extra credit goes to the regional manager, Andy, who went out of his way to help me find a product that 4 other team members could not find, but not from lack of trying. Door greeter was the best!! But no name badge. Price - Grand opening discounts and giveaways, etc. Bought a few Yeti products. Owner Comment - Congrats on all your success in four states and 31+ locations. This store was a huge surprise they have almost everything. Not everything is ranch related. They got toys, clothes, shoes, food and other items that you would not expect. I browsed the whole store and stopped at the clothing section. Most of the clothes and shoes are Western style but I like the unique looks and winter gear. My main reason for coming in today was to look at handguns for my concealed carry class. I was disappointed that no guns were on display and was told that they are short-handed and that the gun person might be needed in other part of the store and that they don't leave the guns unattended. Made sense to me. A nice young gentleman chatted with me a bit about the guns they carry until he was needed elsewhere. As I was leaving the store, the manager asked if I needed anything and told me he could show me some guns. He gave me tip as I am a southpaw and recommendations. I super happy that he spent time with me even though I could not decide at that time on a gun. He was the best help I have received in any of the gun shops so I will be back. They did not have the ammo I needed for another gun a own but it is a bit of an antique so it is harder to find the ammo. Everyone here was nice and willing to help. Another kind lady told me what gun she owns (shes a lefty too) and how much she likes it. Not sure what department she works in but she was near the gun shop. I give the manager "5 Stars" for going out of his way to show my guns and offer advice. I may buy that gun soon but if not, I found all kinds and brands of dog food to buy in very large bags. Plus many of the departments carry things we buy. We will be back. read more

This store is amazing. CAL Ranch is basically an ACE hardware meets feed store. I'm so glad we now have one of these in Reno, and in a super central location too! Don't pass CAL Ranch up as a feed only store or somewhere only rural people shop. You'll find everything here, from feed and ranch supplies to a huge clothing department, boots and shoes, camping, vehicle maintenance supplies, outdoor items, garden supply... truly a little bit of everything. This particular location has a tremendous amount of stock on the floor and everything is well organized, aisles and walkways are clear of clutter, and it's easy to navigate. I love walking these stores because I always come across awesome products that I never think about or realize I need until it's right in front of my face. I highly recommend taking an hour and walking through. read more

Compared to the Carson City store, there is no comparison - this store is a lot less cluttered. Bigger selection too. Service was pretty good, but not outstanding. Things were difficult to find - CAL needs to invest in better way finding throughout the store. read more

I just wanted to leave a great review for the wonderful customer service I received today from Dawn at the Reno, Nv CAL ranch store. I came into the store today looking for a specific flavor of wildology dog food for my pups. I didn't see the flavor on the shelf and she was so friendly and kind to go look thru the shipment that hadn't been out on the shelfs yet. She really made me feel like I was important. She was very knowledgeable and pleasant. What a nice surprise and it is so hard to find excellent customer service anymore. From Stihl to horse gear, to cool clothing and especially neat items this store is amazing. Never heard of it before. End up buying a Stihl product. This could be a good store. I was in there the other day and their is short heavy weight girl that says she is an assistant manager. Someone told.me her name was Cheyenne. She not only has severe body oder that made me walk away and gag. I heard her actually using the "f" bomb on the floor. I have witnessed her use it towards other employees. She had the nerve to cuss out the teenage employees about being lazying. And she was actually sitting on the feed eating. The teenage employees were working their butts off helping other customers and she just sat there eating and the foul language that came out of her mouth when she wasn't shoving food in it. When I asked to speak to the store manager, Robert, was told he was not there. When asked when he would be in. All anyone knew was that he was there Monday-Friday during the day and for about 5 hours. Which hours no one knew, just that it was during the day and he left by 4pm daily. I will be going to your competitors, Sportsman's, Tractory Supply, Big R, etc. It is a shame that this store had such great people working there when it opened. I could name some of them for you what's the point. You seem to want to be known for trash and hiring only trash now. read more

First time in Reno store. Had a bad experience at the Carson store and the manager there never bothered to resolve the issue, so I have been avoiding this one. For the plus side....store is clean, was easy to find help for a price check, was offered help finding things twice. For the minus side...how long has this store been open? It still feels like they are setting up most of the horse and ranch stuff I go there for, and some shelves with random items and no prices-one of my biggest pet peeves!-or price tags that appear to be for the item on the shelf, but you have to read the fine print to realize it is for an item that isn't even on the shelf. A lot of the large stuff in the back of the store, rubber mats, troughs, even tomato cages, no prices! Very frustrating. I don't mind searching for a price check once in a while, but not for multiple items that I may have otherwise purchased had prices been marked. will I go back? Probably. This store is conveniently located for me. Big R and Tractor Supply are not. It is about time a farm and ranch store returned to Reno. If you grew up here like I did ( and you're old, lol) you would remember Albers on Timber way. It disappeared a l o n g time ago. And yes, we have always had feed stores with their over inflated prices, but unfortunately it now takes a big box chain store to bring reasonable prices and selection back to town. This has been my favorite store and I always treat myself by stopping by every time I am in town. It's a little pricy, but I don't mind because it's a fun store. After the rude obnoxious cashier I had the pleasure of having, you won't see me in the Carson City store again. After I was rang up, I put my phone number in and someone else's email came up. The cashier told me to select no when it asked if it was me. I selected no and it locked up the machine. She took my card out of the machine and tried herself with the same result. She told me I would have to wait for 2 minutes and the next time I come in, I need to put all my information in make sure it's correct before I put my card in. I told her I did and it was asking for a bunch of additional information, and she began to argue with me and said I didn't do it right and she was telling me how their machines worked for next time. I told her their won't be a next time, and she said whatever and gave me a surly look and started to shake her head. I told her I don't need this stuff and walked out and went to Home Depot. Nobody wants or needs a lecture. Her attitude cost the store a customer and some bad publicity I guess I will spend my money at the Reno store from here on out. read more
