I was Referred to this True Value Store by a Man who was outside working for Home Depot ! I stopped to Inform him that The Service at their store 'Sucked' ! It was Extremely Difficult to find an Employee inside and when I did the Man Responded, "I have Two People ahead of you, I will be with you when I Can !" Well, He NEVER showed up ! I left Frustrated ! The kind man outside apologized and referred me to 'Shelly's True Value Hardware Store' on Greenbrar and Pyramid Avenues !! This store is 'Off the Beaten Path' but when I walked in I was Greated by Two Employees ! 'Bob' immediately said "How can I Help You?" Now That's Service This True Value has Everything you need and I was impressed with the Selections they have ! The Prices are Fair and the Service again is Fantastic ! Drive By the Big Box Stores and check out this Store where the Employees are Experienced and More than Willing to help you with Any Project ! Came in the other day at the recommendation of a friend to have some keys made. I've driven by this area a ton and honestly never knew this was here. I was excited to find another local business to support. When I walked in, i was greeted warmly and promptly asked if I needed help with anything. I explained I just needed a few keys made and they showed me their selection. While they did have some fun ones, I opted for a plain one for sturdiness' sake. I walked around while I waited and saw that they have a nice selection of items and I will certainly come back to see if they have anything else I may need when the time comes. Staff was courteous and greeted me right when I walked in. I came in for their good interior paint prices and also picked up a few items I needed for re-calking a sink and finishing a wood project. I am female and I wear medical equipment and they were informative and respectful regardless. I was not blown off at all. Shelly's is the type of store WE LOCALS SHOULD ALL SUPPORT because they are an asset to our neighborhood. They have been here forever and seem to do a great business. If you are a newcomer, check them out! I want them to stay in business forever! AND THEY HAVE MORE THAN HARDWARE! I can run in for packing tape, drain cleaner and you know...the occasional emergency hummingbird feeder, pocket knife or walking stick. But they have ONE WALL you actually can't find at the big box stores. It's full of drawers that hold specialty items. I've pictured some examples. You might stop in just for some delicious FREE POPCORN! If you do, check out the candy and take a quick stroll around so you will remember to come back when you actually need to buy something. I'm sure Bob might have a day off, but not sure when it is because he's always there when I go in! And they do make great keys that always WORK. Both employees were not wearing masks and a customer in line next to me was not wearing a mask and coughing openly into the air. I purchased one overpriced product from this location. I am all for supporting local businesses and paying a bit extra at times, but when those shops are not willing to be complient with health and safety standards, I see 0 reason to return. Customers cannot return if they are infected with a dangerous virus causing severe injury or death. I am never returning to this business and if you want to go to a local business that cares about the health and well-being of their customers, neither should you. read more

Stopped in yesterday hoping they had an oven thermometer so I can check the accuracy of my oven's temperature for baking special recipe. This awesome neighborhood hardware store had two choices! The other day I was in Shelly's looking for shower heads. I asked one of the young guys at the front counter if he could point me in the right direction to find them. He stepped around the end of the counter and led me directly to the right location. He said "we don't like to point, we'd rather just take you to the right spot!" THAT is the kind of customer service we can all appreciate. Back in December my 10 year old grandson needed batteries for one of his presents. I called Shelly's ahead of time to make sure they had what he needed, and told them I was sending the kid down to get them. Kid jumped on his bike and rode down there. He asked where the batteries were and they took him right there and helped him find the ones he needed. They also encouraged him to bring his new bicycle in the store since he didn't have a lock. Five star service. As my grandson grows he is learning to appreciate quality service (free popcorn is a bonus!) Supporting the smaller LOCAL businesses ... and they support us. read more

Unlike the cold-looking Home Depot, or the warmer looking Lowe's, there is something welcoming and fun about going into this neighborhood hardware store and dealing with regular employees who make it enjoyable to shop. They don't have everything the big stores have, but they have most of what you're looking for, prices are comparable, and there's always something that catches your eye that you just wouldn't see in the larger stores, be it a toy, walking stick, candy, etc. What I said in a prior review, almost a year ago, is " It's too bad they don't have a sign on Pyramid as it would really increase their business since it's only a half block off Pyramid, but there's no visibility or exposure." My husband and I have shopped here since we've been in the area, about 13 years now. My husband has a Shelly's card that we always use to get points and we haven't had any issues there except for these last two visits, today and a few months ago. An older man (the same on both occasions) was rude to my husband and to other customers in the store, not even helping a customer with questions looking for a specific pipe fitting. The employee also had no understanding of the Shelly's card system, tried to refuse to use it so that we could either get points or use the points we have accumulated, and just was generally bad tempered and had poor customer service skills. When he finally used the Shelly's card so my husband could use the rewards to get money off of our purchase, he threw the card away. My husband asked for the card back, the guy refused to give it to him and tried to just give him a new one. We have been customers for such a long time but we won't be back. It's sad when a small business like this ends up having employees who drive customers away. We'll be trying out other hardware stores in the area. read more

Was referred here for a faucet cartridge replacement that Home Depot didn't carry. They were very helpful in finding what I was looking for...even opened the package to make sure it was correct and I saw how it worked. Maybe a shade more expensive than at a Lowe's or Home Depot level, but they had what I needed, so it was worth it! read more

The entire staff was very helpful and professional. Kathy, the manager, is the best example of what customer service should be. I purchased an item that had a broken part. When I called, Kathy said without hesitation we will make it right. Having been in retail before, I know the extra work she put in to get me a new part. Shelly's True Value Hardware is a great store. I will say customer service is excellent. I have used this store many times. Actually, I have been coming to this store since high school and I graduated in 2003, so do the math haha. But I have never had an issue. Always great service, very convenient and easy to find parking. The main thing I like is the easy of getting in and out. What do Iean by that? Well, if I were to go to homedepot I would have to go through a bigger store but this place is smaller which I like. The shelves are clean and well organized which makes it easier to find things. It's the little things like that I really appreciate. This is one of those stores which you find that has pride in their store and it really shows. I also love supporting local store so I will be coming back for more. I have been since high school so why stop now haha. Oh another funny thing about this hardware store, it reminds me of Home Improvement the store Tim Allen the protagonist of the show would go to. Also have a good selection of solid wood furniture that is a step above most furniture stores. prices a little higher than big box but the helpful people and selection make up for it. I will go to this hardware store before any other. The people that work here have the best customer service in town. The store has been here forever. It's like a small mom and pop but they have everything! Local honey, birdhouses, plants, veggies, paint, tools, etc. On occasion I need a lot of keys made for work, like 30-40.
