I love that this True Value is so close to my work! I often have to go to a hardware store to pick up stuff for work and I love that they are so friendly and helpful here. I have always been greeted as I walked through the door and asked if I needed help finding anything. They take the time and effort to talk you through your project and they will help you find what you need. I purchased a grill from them. They went to load it in my car and felt the interior of my car might get damaged. They were taking it apart and giving me step by step instructions on how to reassemble. I had mentioned this was a Christmas pre ent for my husband. The steps were easy and they mentioned the weight of the top piece. I replied my neighbor would help me, my husband is disabled and wouldn't be able to. At that point they offered to deliver it to our home. They brought the grill within the hour and assembled it at the house for me!! I can't get over how kind and helpful everyone is. When I come here with the part or a picture of it, the people here brainstorm until we come up with a substitute. We have been in twice and got some picture hangers, some furniture leg pads, a car snow shovel and scraper/brush combo, some cut keys and more. The greatest thing about the North Valleys Hardware is: I've never had a hard time finding someone to answer my question or help me find what I need for a job. It is April 2020, deep into Covid-19 days. This place has been busy with everyone working on their home projects. I was looking for GCFI outlets. The gentleman working that part of the store was busy helping someone else find something, and a second person was waiting their turn to ask their question. I patiently waited and when it was my turn I was directed to the exact spot I'd already been but hadn't seen what I needed. Color options were pointed out and it wasn't long before a fourth person took my personal guide in another direction. I kept shopping and it wasn't long before I needed more help. I tracked down my 'finder of all things.' I noticed how TIRED (exhausted) he looked. Soon as he saw I needed something though, he perked up and was eager to help. Before getting him to show me where the next item I needed was kept, I made sure to thank him for being the finder of all things. When you're ready to check out, you head to the front counter. They're typically ladies running this end of the show, and to be honest, they're often somewhat grumpy about the job. It often feels like I'm interrupting something important and they're annoyed to have to check me out. They seem friendly enough with one another, and I've noticed them be chatty with other customers. Dunno what to say about that. Summary of the long winded (as per my M.O.) review: Employees here are always willing to help you find what you can't. Everyone of them knows where everything is (that can't possibly be a true statement, but it has been my experience) and the take you directly to the right location. This a great hardware store, harkening back to the good old days of yesteryear, quite awhile ago. Great inventory, great staff, without exaggerating while walking around sizing the place up 10 different people must have asked me if I need help. At first I sort-of just blew them off because I have become so used to store employees not being much help even when they are trying to help. After a bit, it dawned on me that this place and the staff is the real deal. I think this is the best hardware store in the entire Reno/sparks area, in other words if you live on the south end of town and you looking for a certain hardware store item that is proving to be hard to find drive to this place. This Place is definitely one you want to keep in your contacts and use before you go to home depot or lowes or 1 of the big Box stores. The reason why I say this is because yesterday I went in there to buy some peat moss cups for my gardening stuff! I got to talking with the friendly staff that's behind the counter and I forgot to pick up my debit card. I had no recollection of this until later today when I took my wife to breakfast and realize I had no way to pay for it. These folks held on to my card and made sure I got it back. We backtracked and figured out what happened and that's how we found them. I bought a Remington RotoTiller-Cultivater from True Valley in Golden Valley or "North Valley Hardware" on April 3, 2021. The Tiller started for maybe 10 minutes and then stopped. It would not start again. My husband took it back to North Valley Hardware and they said very rudely that they would not take it back, we had to call the manufacturer. It's not worth the hassle. I try to buy local where we live, even when it costs more than $100 than a box store, but this will be the last time. I will buy from big box stores who have nice employees and policies. read more

This little place packs it in that's for sure. I don't know how they manage to fit as much in it as they do, it's pretty impressive. This is a great local place to shop for whatever little projects you've got. Their prices are hit or miss at times. Nice staff but the quality of the merchandise they sell is no better that Harbor Freight. Hose repair ends that leak, electrical plugs that are impossible to wire and once wired will not close back up, fasteners that strip or snap with little to no torque applied, lag bolts that break when predrilled and then tightened in pine. This store really lives up to the chain's jingle, it is the place with friendly hardware folks! I've come in here several times and usually because my husband has sent me to grab something he needs to finish a project he's working on, like screws, caulking or nails. And each time, just as I start to wander through the store with a clueless look on my face, Mike C has come to the rescue, offering his expertise in the most helpful and friendly manner, taking me to the correct aisle when necessary. While some things may be cheaper elsewhere, I come here because I know I can get help if I need and when I do get help, it's always with a smile. The ladies up front are friendly as well. read more

With an exceptionally friendly and helpful staff, and an owner who cares about her customers, I have gotten amazingly helpful advice on everything from a broken drill to a swamp cooler. They have a liberal return policy, even if you have lost your receipt which I often do. I have spent probably $1,500 there on my remodel of my home and keep going back for more. ^_^ On most items, their prices are comprable to Home Depot. The customer service was excellent. Sad, there are not part of " True Value " nation wide stores. I researched fence on line and called them, they had it in stock. I drove there and picked it up only to find I'm being charged 3 times the on line price. The rude cashier stated " we are independently owned ". When I asked to use my True Value rewards cards, again " NO" , we don't do that. These guys are great! They are super helpful, have almost everything I need, and are always fully stocked. Home Depot and Lowes could learn a thing or two from these guys. After our monsoonal rains this year I had mushrooms all over the yard. I wanted to get rid of them before they spread but had no idea what to use. When I went to Home Depot the clown said, and I quote, "Stop watering so much" and then proceeded to yuck it up with his buddy. Here's the kicker, he was the garden manager--or so he said. In absolute and bitter frustration I left and was just going to finish my errands for the day. As I pulled off the freeway I realized there was the True Value in the old Scolari's shopping center. I decided I had nothing to loose and went on in. Two minutes. It took the employees no more than two minutes to listen to my problem and walk me to the isle and help me look. Yep, they helped me look for the product! The only reason it took two minutes was because we started on the wrong side of the isle. They found what I needed, told me how to apply the product, and how often I'd need to apply it. That's what service is Home Depot and Lowes, maybe you could try it some time. Customer service was nearly non-existent. I was roaming the aisles looking for a few items and received no help when employees walked by. Their patio furniture is on a large patio out behind the store and had an Employees Only sign on the door leading outside. I asked an employee if that furniture was displayed in an area open to customers. He said he would walk outside with me and proceeded to walk past us and walked outside to the patio. I asked if there was sale pricing for any of these items. He responded with, "The sign said 25%." There was one 5-piece chair set that I liked. My wife asked how much it was, and the man didn't respond. I checked every tag on the set and couldn't see the price, just the SKU. I asked the man and he said the price was on the tag. I looked at the tags again and one of the tags said $189.99 but was extremely faded. The price was so high I asked him if that price was correct. He asked for a price on the SKU and was told $177. I asked him if that was the sale price or if I could take 25% off that price. He said $177 was the price after the 25% discount from $189. That's when we left and went back into the store. The cashier was Suzy, and she was very helpful. I located several objects and cashed out. I will drive to the ACE on Baring in the future. They know how to greet customers, escort you to that elusive product, and generally act as thought they want you as a repeat customer. read more

In a bit of a rush and show up before they open 7:58 to be exact the cashier holds up his hand signaling 2 minutes from inside locked door other customers waiting outside. Thought this was a nice mom n pop type of place that would open up a minute or two early. Took my business to Home Depot as they are far cheaper and I was rushing to get to the job site. Two minutes isn't that much time but was just enough for me to say forget you and move on. If you need something small and don't mind paying extra and waiting until the exact clock ticks 8 to open not bad if you want to save money go to the big box store. read more

Great place to find just about anything. Most of the time, the staff is very helpful and friendly. Returns seem to be a huge pain if payment was made with anything but cash. You have to be sure and know what card was used for purchase or they cant process the return. read more

Sick and tired of giving these guys a try, only to get burned. They make keys and do a horrible job. I had 8 keys made, all to the same lock. Only 2 worked. They are also very over priced, disorganized stock and just messy. Pathetic. Rude staff. Rude manager lady. I will never be back and will spread the word. I will pass this place up to go to Walmart. This is the best small hardware. Sometimes you pay a dollar more however the cost is off set by the gas you may use going to the big box hardware stores in the area. I can go to the fastener section and if I need help someone is there or right around the corner. I don't need to wonder up and down the aisles looking for someone to help me find something. If I need help location an item the store person will walk with me over to what I need or give suggestions on the job I am doing. The big stores will say go down to aisle 20 or 21 and I think it is near the end. I will see someone with an orange apron and when they see you will go the other direction. The store does not offer a military discount but you never know. They are my local store and I will support them. It even smells like a hardware store. Only thing missing are the creaking wood floors. read more

To the manager of the NorthValleys store.I was in on 05/04 at 5:24 PM. I had a need to have a key made.When I entered I was not greeted as I noted others were.The young woman at the counter looked at me I showed her a key,her reply was how many I said one.She turned said something to the other young woman then turned to me a said something.My hearing is bad at 64 thats one of the items you lose,I heard only the word car.I pointed to my RED Saturn.Her comment to me was"color has nothing to do with it:. I realy felt stupid an embarrassed. I then said 05 Saturn.She turned to make the key an asked again how many,I said one. She made the key I paid said thank you started for the door.Her comment was"If you have a problem bring it back" I continued out the door. I was mad even my wife picked up on it. I plan not to return, if I feel the need of being embarrassed or made a fool again I will go someplace other than your store.The associate was Cindy as that is the name on my receipt.Customer service she has none of.You don't embarrass a customer.I did call that same day an was told the manager would return Friday.
