Great customer service! I appreciate the recycling philosophy and I want to be a patron to businesses that support a reduce, reuse and recycle model. Well laid out with plenty of equipment! I got exactly what I needed for what I felt was a fair price. I especially appreciated the hours of operation. I was able to go by after work. I had planned to browse and price compare, then go to REÍ and Sportsman's Warehouse. Gear Hut had just what I needed that would work for me. Support local, and support conservation! Support Gear Hut! read more

This is a very cool used gear store that has a little something for everyone. If you are in need of gently used ski, camping, rock climbing or other equipment, I highly recommend starting your search at at Gear Hut! read more

A great little shop to buy used outdoor gear. Items vary from excellent used condition, gently used, to well-loved. Everything is well organized and the shop is easy to navigate. I was looking for a day pack or hydration pack to take on shorter hikes and found a exactly what I was looking for at a fantastic price. The item I purchased had likely only been used once or twice and at more than 50% less than buying it new, I felt like I made out like a bandit. I look forward to popping in here regularly to see what's available and also when I need something specific. A great option to keep gear in rotation. read more

This is SUCH a cool place. I can't believe I hadn't known it existed. I love that the webpage will highlight some of the cool items in the store. I went in recently to look at second hand REI tents. The staff offered to help me set them up to check that everything looked good because all sales are final. There are a lot of great options here at the store. I would love if they'd highlight items on instagram to lure me in in search of specific items that have hit the shelves. read more

Rude. Entitled. Just all around smart mouth and judgey. Idk how they make profit rude yo everyone. And I thought they were just having a bad day. Well come to find out when my group of friends and myself (7 of us total) all went to gear hut at one point or another. Mostly separated in groups of 2 but without the rest of the group knowing. But long story short. We all had the horrible honor of being treated like I was unworthy for hiking or anything outdoors. And not one of us bought something because we alllllll had the same experience. So save your money and go else where. They sell tents with holes and all other damaged goods but they will never give you a refund or store credit or anything is what I'm told. They mean all sales final every if didn't leave the store yet and you notice a hole in your tent or whatever you got. They will smile at you and say "ooooooooooooooo oh my gosh that's just bad luck " and laugh at you behind your back and honestly never met a group of people that I wish I never met in my life. Avoid this place at all cost trust me read more

Nice shop. Lots of nice gear in good condition. Prices were decent. Staff was knowledgeable and friendly. It's great to see someone out there recycling expensive outdoor gear. read more

Favorite place ever!! I've been coming to gearhut regularly for the past 3 years now and I'm going to be so sad when I move and don't have access to a place like this anymore. The owners and all the employees and great people and well informed about various gear in the shop. The gear is always rotating with people consigning daily and prices go down after items have sat in the shop for a while. They have a super wide variety from top of the line gear to more budget friendly options and I love coming in here to check out what new stuff they've got. Good work Rusty and Leah! read more

Recent discovery thanks to another Yelp event. On Father's Day I did the Outdoor Explorers Evans Creek hike. We started at Gear Hut. What a great concept. They sell slightly used outdoor gear. Shelves and shelves of hiking and climbing shoes, racks of clothing, backpacks, skis and even large items like kayaks. Make sure you check out both rooms. So many great brands at a nice savings. I return recently to browse more through the store without the crowd from the event. I scored a perfect fitting pair of REI hiking shorts that I swear are brand new for $15. The restroom is the changing room, so you are able to try everything on before you purchase. Staff is helpful. The store is just the right size so I feel they know every item in there. They have their own parking area. That's a bonus in the Wells area. The front door is on the south end of the white building on the corner of Wells and Wonder. The Reno area has so much great outdoors to enjoy, get you gear here. read more

Gear Hut - Consignment outdoor gear - Outdoor Gear Near Me - Reno, Nevada

My husband and I love Gear Hut! They provide used outdoor gear at great prices and have such a wide variety of products to offer. They prove that getting into new outdoor activities does not have to be expensive! My husband taught two of our friends to ski and brought them here to get some used gear to start with. They each got skis, poles, boots, and a helmet for under $200 per person! My husband even got a high quality mountain bike here for such a good price. We have also brought some of our own used gear here and the process is seamless and well-organized. The items sold quickly and this definitely beats trying to sell things on Facebook marketplace or Craigslist; you just drop your gear off and they take care of the rest. Big fan of their green initiatives and commitment to sustainability. They also sponsored a park in Reno. What's not to like?! They are always sharing great things on their social media page about ways to get outside in Reno/Tahoe and about their current deals in the shop. The staff are friendly and down to earth. They are all super knowledgeable. They even pay their employees to get outside with their pay to play program! We tell a lot of people about Gear Hut and will always continue to support them! read more

Stopped by when it was still cold to get some thermals and they had a great selection on clothes with great prices. Ended up getting some clothes here and a bag for hiking. Great spot read more

Knowable people in a friendly relaxing atmosphere. I'm never rushed and feel free to ask questions. My wife and I have sold about 6 things there with no problems. I got A reasonably priced down coat for her birthday a few Years ago. She still receives comments from people about it as we walk by. Many ask where we bought it. Joe read more

Gear Hut, I am definitely a fan. I love hiking, mountain biking, camping, hunting, fishing, surfing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, and anything outdoorsy I have at least tried once, if I haven't I probably will. But these guys have used gear that I would actually use. I have purchased a few items here and there to help with my outdoor pursuits. Plus, I love saving money and these guys have named brands like Patagonia, The Northface, REI, Outdoor Research, and many more. They have plenty of used clothes, shoes, rock climbing gear, camping gear to choose from. Just a gear place to save a bit of money. I have definitely found a few gems here. So, they also will sell your used gear for you as well. With a seller's fee but at least you dont have to post it on craigslist and meet up with a random stranger. Worth the wait and sellers fee. I have a few items that I have used up in the store for sale here. It's a great process. I am definitely happy with it. Also, the staff here is super awesome. Rusty is one of the staff there and he is pretty awesome. There is also plenty of parking and a bathroom/fitting room. Thanks for reading my review. read more

See all

Seems that every time I go in I buy something from a hammock to pair of pants. Quite nice store with good rotation.

Went to Gear Hut for the first time a few weeks ago for some hiking shoes and a camel back. best decision I ever made! everything was fairly priced and in good condition! Will definitely be coming back soon! read more

I have to say I was pretty in pressed with the level of customer service. The owner went out of his way to correspond with me through email and make sure they had exactly what we needed before making the long drive from out of state. They had a great selection of stuff, some things like boots they had a Ton of and other stuff like poles a limited selection of and I'm sure it changes often I believe everything was on consignment. We were able to get almost 2 full complete xc ski set ups for a fraction of the price of new. Prices varied from very affordable entry level to pricey high quality stuff.. I'll be back next time I'm in Reno forsure!!! read more

Great place!! I love getting the chance to get some used gears, outdoor hobbies can be expensive and anytime you can save a buck why not. Owners are great people! And everyone loves talking outdoors, I can't count the times I randomly pop in and leave with a treasure trove of amazing stuff! Prices are really fair ! And you can find just about anytning you might need. Their new location is much bigger but a bit unorganized , I credit that to a new location and the move I'm sure is still being worked on. Check it out! read more

I know that there are lots of people that like to support big box stores for their outdoor gear but to them I say "why not support local first"? At Gear Hut you can easily support a local small business while saving yourself a few bucks on new/used gear purchases OR even earning yourself a few bucks by consigning your old forgotten or new and not quite right gear items in the store. This local mom-and-pop store has exciting changeover in their items from week to week and a staff of very knowledgeable outdoor enthusiasts. If you have questions, they'll likely have an answer or be able to look something up for you at no charge. If you're into camping, mountain biking, hiking, trail running, rock climbing, snowboarding, skiing, mountaineering, snowshoeing, kayaking, SUPing, and more, you should absolutely stop in here first before hitting up the bigger stores. You'll support an amazing local business, save a bit of cash, and maybe find new inspiration while browsing the store all in one trip! Highly recommend. read more

Always come to gear hut as my first outdoor spot to see if they have what I'm looking for before I go anywhere else! Prices are amazing and it feels great to give a new life to a piece of gear! Employees r amazing and friendly too:) read more

Gear Hut is a family owned and operated outdoor gear consignment store that has something for everyone! And if they don't, just wait a few days and they will. The store is always packed with clothing, camping supplies, skis, bikes, water equipment, and many other goodies at a heavily discounted price. Things are sold as is, so make sure you test it before you buy! Listing your items is simple and the friendly staff will help you every step of the way. Need beta on local climbs? They have books and staff that are always on the rocks. Looking for a cool tour in Tahoe? Almost everyone there is a skier/boarder and knows all the good spots. Need advice on what kind of gear you need for your camping trip? They are all gear nerds who will point you in the right direction. Even if you don't need anything specific, Gear Hut is worth a stop just to stay and chat. Did I mention Gear Hut is heavily involved in the community? They have adopted a local park and host many different events promoting giving back, cleaning up nature, and boosting local nonprofits! Gear Hut is a staple of the Reno/Tahoe outdoors community and a great place to support local businesses while getting a deal. Stop by sometime, you won't forget it. read more

Me and my family's favorite store for gear!! So many good finds at this store, whether you're into camping, climbing, hiking, biking, water sports and more!! Have purchased many camping items along with apparel and backpacks. You can get the best and durable brands for a fraction of the cost in big box stores!! And the best part is, even though most items are pre-loved, the store does make sure they are in good condition before selling them, which is a huge plus!! Definitely my favorite shop, always look forward to trips here! read more

Gear hut is an amazing local business, friendly and helpful staff and good deals! I have been consigning with them for years

Had good used items. We were able to find a few things we needed before our ski trip.

Good place to sell old bike and ski gear and sports clothing. New location. Larger than the old one. Sometimes they don't take certain items that I ve brought in; Like bike helmets, certain size ski boots, or timing is off like accepting anymore bike or ski gear. read more

These guys are awesome! Ame in today to browse for the first time and I was suprised by the quality, variety and prices available. Brand new approach shoes! Great Patagonia gear! I ended up purchasing a Black Diamond helmet in excellent condition for $30 and a brand new Patagonia biking Fanny pack complete with a never used camel pack for $20. Super stoked because the biking packs I was looking at at REI started at $50. Thanks, Gear Hut! Worth the trip from Truckee! read more

Let the buyer beware - there are no returns or exchanges and some of the gear sold is not in great shape. I learned my lesson when I purchased a Thermarest Nanoair pad and just found on my camping trip that it has a slow leak. Yup, after just about 2 hours I was flat on the ground. And the pad was not priced as though I was taking a gamble. Live and learn. read more

good place to walk around when you're bored, and you just might find something you didn't know you needed

I've been consigning my used gear here for over 6 months and am really happy with how easy the process has been. The staff members do a great job pricing my items, so it's minimal work on my part. I get an email the same day with the items, prices, and my potential earnings (if everything sells). I can use the money in my account to purchase gear at the shop, or I can ask them to write me a check. Stoked to have this shop in the Reno/Tahoe area! read more

What a great little place. Small but stock full of all things Outdoors. The store faces south in the alley north of Vasser and west of Wells.
