I brought in my regs and BCD for service, it had been a few years since using them. I was surprised how affordable the quoted service rate was, so I opted to have 3 regs and my BCD serviced. Turns out, the price I was quoted was just for cleaning and inspection. The person that took my gear did not explain it that way. If the service and parts price had been mentioned I would have only had 1 reg and the BCD serviced. The final price of service and parts was 4 times the quoted cost of cleaning. It took 4 weeks after dropping it all off for them ot even start to look at any of it. It then took another 2 1/2 weeks to get it finshed. The quality of the work was good, but expensive and slow. read more

Went here at the end of the day and they didn't rush me out and helped me tremendously. Needed a snorkel set up for an impromptu trip I planned. Kyle was super helpful and worked with my price range and had me try on a bunch of different masks and fins to find the right brand, size, and style that fit me. He was very thorough explaining many things to me in depth. Super knowledgeable! They also have wetsuits, classes and everything you need for scuba. They also have a used discount bin that I scored some fins and booties with. Definitely recommend if you need some guidance and gear. read more

Absolutely amazing experience doing the PADI altitude diving course here. Keith set everything up over email and we met Hayden at Meeks Bay for the dive. He was extremely kind, patient and professional and my son and I had a great time! I really liked how Hayden tailored the course to our needs and was very patient with us as we worked through our dive plans and contingency plans. He was very focused on keeping us safe and we managed to have a lot of fun as well. Keith was very accommodating with the scheduling and it made for a great overall experience. I was I. Need of a replacement Mask and snorkel as we are planning a trip to Egypt. I want my last mask here five a few years ago, and this is the first place I checked out. When I walked in, I was greeted fairly quickly but it was more of a like... What can I do for you versus how you doing. I told him what I was there for, and he directed me to the back of the store. Another worker came along and helped me. I have three teens and they are very interested in diving. I have scuba dived in 20 countries, and of course they want to do it also. So I check the prices of getting certified. The certification price is $500, but it's really not technically correct. You have to also rent snorkel mask and fins for $75. He told me they do open water at Sand Harbor and Tahoe, and I'm not sure if the rental fee included a wetsuit. The guy said to plan on about $625 total. One issue, is a are booked out through till September. He does offer a private lesson for about $900. That price he says is mostly for the swimming pool rental. So I am awaiting if there's a group discount because I have three teenagers. So far, very knowledgeable and friendly people. So I would return here. read more

Had a great experience doing my Open Water Scuba certification here. The crew of instructors, Jerry, John, Robert and Warren were very helpful in all aspects. You can tell they love the sport and want others to enjoy it as well. If someone is unable to do a skill properly, they take the time and effort to show them how and practice with them until they can get it right. The crew in the office were also helpful in getting me in the right wetsuit and gear. Would definitely recommend. read more

Everyone who works at Sierra Diving Center is friendly, helpful, personable, and kind. When I got scuba certified, Jerry and John were my two main instructors, and they are both wonderful! Rob, Warren, and Kyle all helped the class up at Lake Tahoe and they are also all great scuba people to have around and learn from. The manager Keith is super nice! I would highly recommend coming to this place to get scuba certified, take a refresher course, or just buy some equipment from them. I had originally brought in my BCD and regulator to get serviced in September because I was planning on diving in early November. I picked up the BCD and regulator in mid October with a 300$ bill for servicing and replacement parts. I noticed when I got home that the BCD inflator hose was replaced to the other side of my first stage. I changed that to the correct side and everything else looked in order. Up until I went on my first dive. Half way through my dive the BCD inflator trigger had broken and I lost the ability to inflate my BCD. This created a dangerous situation, but luckily my dive buddy was able to bring me into shore safely. I rented a BCD from the Dive shop for the remainder of my vacation. When I returned to Reno I dropped off my BCD and explained what happened to the girl at the counter. She seemed to understand and took in the BCD to get repaired. A month later I stopped by to pick it up and they wanted to present me with another bill! I explained to the guy behind the counter that this had failed on the first dive after getting serviced and he went to get the owner. When the owner came out, I again explained that the service they performed had failed and felt that I shouldn't have to pay to get the work done again. I also brought up that the inflator hose was switched to the other side when they performed the service. The owner then interrupted me and said that was impossible, that he KNOWS that didn't happen, implying I was lying. At that moment the owner became irate crossed out the invoice and told us to find a new scuba shop. I had no intention of returning after receiving such poor service. The owners' attitude was disturbing in that he escalated the situation and his unwillingness to stand by his work. I don't how you can stay in business so long calling your customers liars. read more

I have been a customer for several years and recently had my equipment serviced. Upon picking up my equipment I became aware that the sales person as well as a customer not wearing masks. I expressed my discomfort and asked why they weren't wearing masks. The owner proceeded to lecture me that he has done the research and doesn't believe wearing a mask is effective. I was really shocked that he, as a business owner, would make that assertion and put my life in jeopardy because he is a anti-masker! I pointed out it's a state mandate, but he doesn't care. I guess there is a reason why he sells scuba equipment! He isn't a doctor or a scientist who has intelligent information. I'll never go there again read more

Keith is very fair and when there has ever been an issue he has made sure that I was satisfied. I have done several specialty courses through the store with several instructors and have been satisfied by their training and knowledge. I recently went to Sierra Diving Center to go through the Advanced Dive course and had a great experience. I was really nervous about taking the course having not been in the water for some years. The staff and instructor were patient, encouraging, and very knowledgeable. They helped me refresh my skills and the course was awesome. The shop atmosphere is much like many other dive shops, and you can tell SDC has been there a long time. Don't be deterred by the old shop- these guys are great. My wife and I took the Altitude Specialty class this weekend from Sierra Dive Center. Our instructor, Jerry DeVore, is a rock star who made the experience one of the best we've ever experienced underwater. We are advanced divers with over 200 dives each but altitude diving brings new issues and Jerry solved all the problems. After a thorough explanation of the technical aspects, we were suited up in the water when my wife discovered she needed ankle weights for proper balance. Jerry took off all his gear and walked up on the beach to ask other dive groups if he could borrow this rather esoteric piece of gear. He pulled it off! We then went on for two excellent dives in Meeks Bay. Sierra Dive Center are highly experienced and we had a first class time with them. Great job Jerry! Five stars from us! read more

The owner and staff are 100% professional and knowledgable and provide great communication. They also work very hard to accommodate our timeline (i.e. if we have a dive trip coming up). Just went in to check this dive shop yesterday. We have an upcoming trip to Hilo and wanted to be outfitted with better gear than we rented on the last trip to Hawaii. We were greeted immediately by Hank Blagen. (Hank started diving in 1972. Instructor since 1991. Has approximately 500+ dives.) To say his is super qualified is an understatement. Hank assisted my wife and I on choosing the correct mask, snorkel, and fins for our trip. He made sure everything fit properly and even extended a 10% discount for both of us buying the kits. They offer a ton of classes and i'm planning on going back to enroll in the open water class to get recertified. I'll update all of you on the class experience. read more

Best place to go if you want to learn scuba diving. staff is helpful knowledgeable and walks you through everything you need to know and leaving no detail behind. Awesome dive shop! Great communication from Keith - we were coming from out of town, so we had to arrange everything over the phone and email. Keith was super helpful and made sure that we got all our questions answered. We did the altitude certification with Chris, who was very friendly and knowledgable! He spent a lot of time scouting dive sites given beach closures, and communicated all site changes to us in plenty of time. We truly enjoyed spending the day with Chris and he went WAY out of his way to be helpful. Rental gear was in great condition. We will be back!! Over the phone we were told $375 includes everything in getting your scuba certificate. We're in the second week, only two days left of class and we have spent hundreds more than originally told. We even asked if that's included rentals and air! It is absolutely mind blowing how much they fooled us!! We are absolutely disgusted with how much they have screwed us when it comes to money. It 100% feels like they did it on purpose.. telling us $375, while knowing there are so many more costs involved when you have to rent. Some of the worst service I have experience in years.. they clearly are money hungry low lifes in my opinion. read more

Excellent dive shop! I completed three specialties with this center on two different trips to Lake Tahoe. The first time, they put together a PADI Altitude and Nixtrox class for me, the second trip I completed PADI Search and Recovery. All certification dives were done in Lake Tahoe. I found their prices to be very reasonable, their rental equipment was excellent, and the staff/instructor was very professional. I strongly recommend Sierra Diving Center. read more

This review is based on once experience with the center. Maybe if I go back to them again I will update it with something better. However, I called two weeks before I was going to be in the area. I requested if they would be able to put together an Altitude diving course on the weekend. The person on the phone gathered my information and never called back about being able to hold the class or not. We were recommended Sierra Dive by another dive centre in Nevada during the planning of a recent vacation. I was looking for an operation to assiust with getting the PADI Altitude Certification and as we were vacationing near Lake Tahoe it made sense to tie the two together. The shop is really easy to find even with Sat Nav and is well organised and extremely well stocked for both retal and rental. We were kitted and all the paperwork completed within 90 minutes which is very good in our experience of vacation diving - Will and Jasper were both amusing and accommodating for our various needs. The diving day at Sand Harbor Lake Tahoe required an early start to ensure we got parking and to accommodate the drive over Mount Rose which all formed part of the course. We met Scott Hagen our instructor and had two very pleasant if undemanding dives in excellent viz with all our course work weaved seamlessly into the pre dive and inter dive Surface Intervals. Retrun of kit was effortless and top marks for getting our PICs cards to us in the UK within 11 days. We dive a lot on vacation and Sierra Divers is one of the best operations we have had the pleasure to dive with. We were not in Reno/Lake Tahoe long enough to do the area justice but plan to return and we will look up Sierra Divers again. read more

i was reading the one review on this location as i was at the store. it spoke of someone having problems with the telephone business. i too had telephone issues. i was told on the phone that the wetsuit i wanted to rent was 10$ a day. after reading the review i went about my business of renting the wetsuit. come to find out the prices quoted to me on the phone was wrong. after speaking with the salesman about the price being different than i was quoted i spoke to a manager. the manager asked who i talked to on the phone and after talking with the employee he showed me, and explained to me the pricing sheet and that the employee must haver looked at the wrong column of pricing. he was obviously doing his best to take care of me because he said, " ok that was our mistake so were gonna honor the price you were quoted." that was super nice and definately not expected. i went in on friday to reserve and try on the wetsuit and to my suprise, again, they let me take it that day and i wasnt charged for the weekend; they even gave me a scuba bag to carry it around in. so basicly i got charged for 2 days but had access to the wetsuit from friday to thursday morning when i returned it; too bad my trip was really only the 2 days i needed it. i was very happy with my experience; they made a mistake on the phone but honored thier mistake. after a business stepping up and taking the hit, i really cant say anything negative, they did me right!! i will use them again in the future!! read more
