This is a nice hotel, but needs more improvements and better house keeping service. I realize that all hotels around Solvang are expensive but paying around $250 per night and having someone else's heir in the shower when you just arrive is not pleasant. The room was spacious. Water pressure in the shower was ridiculously slow. Continental breakfast is more like a snack, you get banana bread, yogurt parfait, fruit and juice. I'll start off my saying the location , renovation and the grounds are fantastic. The "continental breakfast" , the outrageous upcharging for memorial weekend, weak water pressure, the patio with no view, bad weather stripping on the door and one bad front desk experience put a damper on our stay. Pros: The location right off the 101 near shopping , split pea Andersens, solvang and shared grounds with flying flags is the best! The renovation is really great, I love the art work in the room , the barn door on the bathroom and the spaciousness in the room is perfect , very well designed. The lavender soap was my favorite! The grounds are gorgeous very well maintained, loved the drought resistance landscape and the fire pits the place feels inviting and laid back. Cons: I paid 480 bucks for 2 nights for the 27 and the 28 when normally it's about 300 . That's some serious upcharging. I paid it so I'm the real sucker :) The continental breakfast which I'm grateful they offered , was carb filled ! Yogurt , danishes , bread , 2 types of cereal and packets of oatmeal . The shower was the fancy waterfall style but it was barley coming out , not enough to call and complain about but just enough to be annoying. The worst was room #113 poor excuse of a patio , facing a wall and full of building supplies . Absolutely worth 480 dollars ! Lest not forget to give honorable mention to the gap between the door and the floor due to poor weather stripping and the cranky lady at the front desk on Sunday who accused us of not checking out because our card key stopped working! read more

Don't stay here!! Jordan the manager is terrible to work with. Our friend got sick and couldn't cancel their room , so we said we would take it if they got the ok. She called me back and said she spoke with management and they said no problem, we could take over their room. We drove an hour and a half to get up their and Jordan, their manager said no, we couldn't do it. When we told her the manager said we could? She argued with us that she was the manager and she said no! It got heated and she called the police on us!! We're an elderly couple but she still felt the need to call. We Love Sideways inn. We stay here anytime we are taking a trip to Solvang. They are pet friendly and the staff is always kind and helpful.

First off; this isn't a bougie hotel you can find in LA, so don't expect too much. I booked Sideways Inn mainly off of how cute it looked (how can you say no to that super cool sliding door to the bathroom?). I was very surprised when I first got in the room and loved what the hotel had to offer. I was very surprised to find out they were able to check me in about noon and the check in process was pretty painless! We got the room facing the pool and it was great to be able to sit right outside our room and people watch. There was also a fire pit at night that we could sit by! Great way to wind down after a day of exploring. The room itself was pretty large. I was pleased to see there was an arm chair as well as a couch so we're not just sitting in the bed all day. The chair was super comfortable and I would just sit there all day utilizing their free wifi (which was really fast, btw) and looking outside. The room wasn't as clean as I hoped it would be, but it wasn't a really big deal - just wear shoes. The walls were also really thin so we were able to hear everything that was happening next door to us. The bathroom was small, but I really appreciated how they actually had hand soap! This is weird, but I always get kind of annoyed that hotels just offer you bar soap.. I hate bar soap and got a little too excited to see hand soap and lotion on the counter.. even if it's locked in. Their shower also had refillable containers of shampoo, conditioner, and shower gel. However, I don't think the shower was cleaned because there was still hair on the floors... A few of the towels still had gross stains on it, so definitely used those as floor mats. The shower was weak, so washing my hair was kind of a struggle. Took a little longer than usual getting the shampoo out. At check in we were also told there's a free continental breakfast. Went to check it out, but all we found were waffles, some cereal, and a large selection of juices and coffee. Not going to lie, I was at least expecting some eggs.. :( Overall, Sideways Inn is pretty solid and hopefully they will continue to improve. Tip: their entrance is right before the Shell gas station! If you miss it, there's another entrance right after it and it just goes behind the gas station. :) read more

WOW!! What an upgrade!! Stayed here for 2 nights (Sunday & Monday) and am 100% impressed! Whoever purchased the old Days Inn had to have put a couple million dollars into this upgrade. All the rooms remodeled, landscaped, fire pits, lobby is beautiful...even the little bar across the way is awesome now!! Staff was incredible. Free cont breakfast delivered to your door each morning!! In case you don't know, they filmed the 2004 movie "Sideways" here. Miles & Jack stayed in Room 235 (if you can get it...it was taken when we checked in ) and they filmed the epic "motorcycle-Sandra Oh-beats-Jack-senseless" scene right below that room. Also the Jacuzzi is used in the film. Anyway, hats-off and major applause to the whoever is responsible for the renovation!! We'll be back!! read more

Construction is done! We thoroughly enjoyed our visit. We lucked out with our timing at the pool and jacuzzi. We had the space to ourselves on day one then joined a family with similarly aged kids on day two. That evening a party of adults celebrated loudly in the pool area. With the fan on in our room, the noise hardly mattered. My only suggestion for improvement would be for the partying adult guests to be quieter on their walks back to their rooms but I'll bet some of them would have preferred not to have heard my kids talking in our room at 7:30 am. So we're even. I'm already looking forward to our next visit. read more

We chose this hotel because it was 10 minutes from Solvang. Also this location is close to the Firestone walker brewery. We loved that everything was updated and clean. The breakfast bagel delivery in the morning was nice as well. The only thing I didn't love was the shower. We were in room 237 and the water pressure was low. It looked like the shower head was broke. Also there was only one panel of glass that covered only half of the shower leaving a big opening for water to escape . So that was kind of odd. Other than that, it was very nice. The restaurant/ bar there has a classy vibe to it and the sausages were very good as well. read more

We enjoyed our stay at the Sideways Inn. We really liked that they are dog friendly so we were able to bring our 2 dogs. All of the staff was very friendly. Hotel was very clean. They even offered a delivery breakfast to your room which is a cute idea. It is just small items but at least it is something, they also provided coffee and pastries in the lobby. The only thing I didn't really like was the shower, the door was only half way there so water would fly out and cold air coming in. Other then that I would definitely recommend the hotel and will stay there again! They also have a gym and bar onsite. It also has a great location, right down the street from downtown Solvang so a short 5 minute drive. read more

You Must Stay Here! We stopped--- just for a night--- on our California road trip, but had to extend our stay because this place is amazing. We had a large, immaculate room with a small patio (Adirondack chairs!) looking out at the pool. The bed was comfy and the morning coffee, both in the room and at the lobby, was delicious. The lobby had a selection of Danishes (two miles from Solvang, so not a big surprise) and friendly, informative staff. Our dog was welcomed, and everyone wanted to say hello to him. The bar had an extremely tasty, complex Red as their house wine. It was so good that we visited the winery on the way home. The bartender filled us in on the best restaurants in the neighborhood. We ended up getting some incredible barbecue (way too much for two!) just down the street towards Solvang. Fridge, microwave, coffee in the room and a great shower. read more

This hotel is fantastic. I love all the little touches, the lavender scented soups, lotions make the room relaxing. Their towels are larger than most hotels. They have soft water that makes your skin feel smooth. Fire pits are nice. Their bar is awesome!! Pub style, big and great drinks! The staff is super sweet and they have great communication. Breakfast is donuts and fruits, which they claim that you must order before 9 PM the night before, which is delivered before 7:30 AM. They did not deliver before 7:30 AM. Just woke up from a good night's sleep at the inn, and with coffee from the coffee maker I'm ready to review! We got a really good deal and had very few expectations based on reviews. Then we come here and see a spacious room that has been totally refurbished (price tag was still on a lamp), and in general a nice inn perfectly located for our needs. Even better, this inn used to be Windmill Inn, which were one of the locations in Sideways the movie. We're great fans of the movie, so this was a cool fun fact. No wonder about the name then, hah. We tried the breakfast, and it was ok but would prefer maybe cheese and wholegrain bread instead of loaf. Fruit, cereals, waffles and Danish made it ok all in all. Still, when room was so nice and the rate a bargain, I wouldn't remove a whole star. We didn't try the bar, nor the pool, but enjoyed the fire pit. A good idea! Back to location : i. The inn lies next to Andersens and a short walk to Standing Sun Winery (great wine) and Hitching Post (also in Sideways). Moreover, it is within walking distance to Figueroa Brewing and Industrial Eats (great pizza). We had an Uber to Solvang which took 5 minutes. Thus, for our needs location was excellent. It is dog friendly but I did not bring one. My tip of $5 was left on the nightstand the first day of my stay. Guess that means I'll be leaving $10 upon check out. Oh and convenient breakfast delivery. Wow! The one missing star is that it's hard to enter/exit during high traffic times. I almost killed my passenger when trying to enter the driveway because it is located so close to the freeway and the gas station. Also when entering the bathroom the first time, the toilet seat was up and had to be flushed since the last use. Nice sized room with mini fridge, microwave, Keurig coffee maker, large shower, hairdryer, and complimentary continental breakfast delivered to our room. Gym was better than any hotel I've stayed at including all inclusive resorts, Vegas, etc. Staff was good, too. Walking distance to a Starbucks. Also, very affordable. Hidden gem. Great place to stop in the drive south. It's super clean, renovated, and friendly. The rooms are spacious and there is plenty of parking. With a pool, hut tub, and fire pit this is a perfect place to stop and unwind with the kids just before getting into LA. I was worried about freeway noise, but it's not an issue as there are plenty of trees. It's close to two gas stations, has a restaurant ( but pricey ) but is close to a few places across the street. Sideways is a cute and kitschy little hotel. It's a few minutes from Solvang - check in was swift and easy and finding the room was easy with the map we were given. Very clean and up to date design, but the room smelled strongly of bleach on entry. We found the water pressure in the shower to be a bit weak but the bed was comfy and there were plenty of towels. The breakfast wasn't that good, but we enjoyed the juice that came with it. For the price we felt like the value wasn't there. For about $300 per night we would expect a little more effort. I would give them a much higher rating but for 1 incident. Before I rant let me say the room was very nice. Clean and spacious. We had direct access to the pool area from our back sliding door. The pool and jacuzzi were nice. Parking was ample and the Inn is close to Solvang and roads leading to the wineries. Here's my complaint. When we were getting ready to leave for home the room flooded. Water was coming out of the overhead light fixture. We hurriedly packed and left. My gf left her charger and called the Inn to retrieve her charger. First of all they didn't want to go look. Then they said they would look and would call back. They never did. She tried 2 more times and then they said it's not there. Well yeah I'm sure someone from the Inn snagged it. It's a small thing. Yet it's a negative reflection on their customer service. I know house keeping probably didn't go in right away as the leak didn't come from the room above. Something broke between the 1st and 2nd level. The maintenance crew advised me of that fact so if they went right in we probably would have got her charger back. What bugged me the most was their attitude as if we were imposing on them. This is the hotel where Miles and Jack stay in the movie Sideways, which was called the Windmill Inn at the time. I was pleasantly surprised by this gem. Hubby and I stayed for the night on our way home to Sacramento from 6 flags. This was a nice stop along our coastal route home. The staff here are wonderful and very welcoming. The grounds are well kept and I really liked the room we stayed in. The room was very clean. I loved that the bathroom had a heat lamp to keep me warm after a shower. My only gripes are that there wasn't a small dining table to eat at (there was more than enough space for one), and the lighting could have been brighter. I did love that they deliver your complimentary breakfast at the door. We will most likely make this our regular stop for our coastline trips. read more

This place has obviously been recently renovated and looks fantastic! The rooms have a rustic modern vibe to them while still maintaining a very comfortable feel. It's the little details that made the room special such as really nice shampoo and conditioner and shower gel in the shower that isn't smaller than my palm. Actual good lotion that moisturizes your skin not just wets it. Keurig coffee maker, microwave, refrigerator and a lovely balcony overlooking the pool that has cute cabanas and a big fire pit with chairs surrounding it. First of all, don't look at the photos and book your room, you'll get a completely different(smaller) room than you booked. You won't have a couch, kitchen and a bunch of things you saw in the actual room. Also, their young and curious housekeeping guys enter your room before the check out time. Even though you have a "Do Not Disturb" sign on the door. They just wandering and try to catch you naked or having sex. When we had a problem with our room type, they basically said there's no other room available and they blamed the hotels.com. When we had a problem with their housekeeping entering the room before the check-out time, "Do Not Disturb" sign on the door, hearing us having sex, hearing me we're not available, instead of leaving started to stare at us; they said that their employee doesn't agree with us. Of course, he wouldn't; I guess they expect an adolescent guy to say yes I entered the room intentionally. After all, they charge you nonsense fees for housekeeping. Ours was a "urination stain" on the bed. I don't know how they believe 2 educated adults leave a urination stain on the bed. When I say there's no way; the manager said the charges will stand if I want I can dispute the charge. Because if I do dispute they'll keep the money anyway. To sum up; false advertising, no customer service, invasion of privacy, untrue accusations to make some extra money. I know this place is cheap but I definitely would say go to an even cheaper place, for better service. read more

We've stayed here a few times. It's a clean place with updated rooms and fairly reasonable. Our last stay though was a bit rough. We checked into our room and it was freezing! We turned on the heat and left for a while so it could warm up. I know it's an extra expense but if the hotel is expecting guests, they really should keep the rooms at an appropriate temperature. We got back from dinner a bit later to a much warmer room. However, as we got ready to turn in for the night, the heating and air unit started making a loud shirking noise. There was no way we could get sleep and leave the heat on. I tried turning the unit off and back on but the noise kept coming back. Finally, I called down to the lobby and asked if we could move to the room next door. Unfortunately, that room was freezing cold too because again, they don't keep the rooms at all respectable temp when not in use. In any case, this was our only hiccup. I'm not sure it will keep me from coming again. Next time, I might ask them to turn the air on prior to my check in. read more
