The tap water tasted good (they do a great job with the purification) and the shower pressure was perfect after a couple hours of straight driving. There are no elevators so please be mindful of that! They have complimentary coffee and danishes from a local danish bakery from solvang. There is orange and cranberry juice for those who dont want coffee or tea. This is from 7 am - 10 am. The area its self has golfing for kids, a heated swimming pool and the inn partners with multiple local shops and areas which offer you a discount if you show the little "passport card" they give you when you check in. The room was spacious and clean. The bed was very comfortable. The AC, which was desperately needed during the recent heatwave, worked perfectly. There are gas stations, fast food restaurants, and even a CVS right down the street from the hotel. In the end this was a wonderful option and our guests loved it! The sales staff were incredible through the entire process, shout out to Megan! She answered all of my calls and my many questions, and made the process so seamless and easy. I stayed at the hotel the night before our wedding and got to experience it first hand. Hotel was clean, rooms were nice and spacious, and the grounds looked well kept! I had a great view of the pool area. There is plenty of parking on the property as well. Multiple guests said it was a great hotel and they had a great stay, with many people specifically commenting on how the breakfast was delicious and the bar was a great place to hang out post wedding festivities. I wondered for a minute if the place had closed. It turned out I just hadn't received the check-in text for the contactless checkin. I called the local number, got a human, and she got me set up with my door code and emailed instructions in about 15 minutes. Everything after that was smooth sailing. Clean, soft but comfortable bed, lovely Danish decor, a modern bathroom with rainfall shower head, Malin & Goetz toiletries, bottled water, local coffee from Santa Barbara in the Keurig-like in-room maker, two glass glasses and two coffee cups, a modern fridge, new A/C. I had a moment with the A/C at 4am when it kept turning on and off, but once I figured out it was on Eco-mode, I turned that to regular and all was well. There's a white noise machine and the windows open. They've thought of everything. The desk space is a little small but it works (I had the Queen room). As a solo female traveler, I felt very safe. The famous Hitching Post II is only a four minute drive or 20 minute walk away. I would return to Hotel Hygge for sure with my lessons learned for an expected five-star stay!

But try and watch TV with the AC running and the TV has to be turned up very loud. Finally, like most "motels" the walls are fairly thin.

The playground has missing or broken pieces, with duct tape and plywood being used as temporary fixes. Some of the cabins are also beginning to show their age, with visible water damage and general wear and tear that could use more attention. I don't necessarily mind a property feeling a little lived in or showing its age, especially one we have enjoyed for so many years. What matters more to me is the hospitality. I would expect friendly, welcoming staff and not to feel like I'm being nickel and dimed for something as simple as getting into a cabin that is already cleaned and sitting empty. We have also been disappointed with some of the recent management decisions. During our latest stay, our cabin was already cleaned and sitting empty when we arrived, but we were asked to pay an additional fee to receive the keys before the 4:00 PM check in time. On a previous stay, our cabin was not ready by the 4:00 PM check in time, yet a similar concession was not offered to us. Policies like this can make the experience feel unnecessarily transactional and tacky, and take away from the hospitality that has made Flying Flags such a great destination over the years. Our family loves Flying Flags and the surrounding area, which is why we have continued coming back for more than a decade. We hope management continues investing in the property and prioritizes the guest experience rather than focusing too heavily on extracting additional fees from customers. We would still recommend Flying Flags, but we sincerely hope the property receives the attention and care it needs so we can continue saying that for many years to come.

He took pictures and immediately reported it to Leah at the front desk. Leah said they were fully booked, which was confusing since she had just allowed him to choose a room. She did not offer any other options, such as a refund, cleaning the bathroom, or having him wait in the lobby while the issue was addressed. We later spoke with another employee, also named Anthony, who said housekeeping had left and that he needed to contact management. My son waited about 40 minutes in the room, only to be told a refund could not be guaranteed because the room was now considered occupied. Had he been instructed to wait in the lobby, he might have been able to receive a refund. We were promised a call from the manager the next morning, but no one called. When I followed up, Leah repeatedly interrupted me, offered only 25% off, and eventually hung up on me. I then contacted Guest Relations and still have not received a response. The dirty shower, lack of communication, and unprofessional handling of this complaint made the entire experience extremely frustrating. The fact that I came to these reviews and found multiple complaints about Leah being rude and unprofessional shows that this was not an isolated incident. Management appears to be aware of the ongoing concerns about her behavior and the motel's uncleanliness, yet has failed to address them or ensure that the staff are doing their jobs properly.
