This was quite the surprise! I haven't stayed in a motel in ages, it was a nice experience. We went at a good time, it wasn't crowded, the weather was nice and everything was available, no problem getting reservations. It's close to nice restaurants and there is a lot to see and experience close by. The town is small and quiet, we like to walk and explore so we found a few shops off the main street that were great! The motel is small and quiet, I loved the onsite wine bar, it wsa a great place to start our walking tour. The rooms was small and the bed was a little soft, but we basically just needed a place to sleep as we were out most of the day and evening. Everything was clean and loved the large tub! Not terribly expensive although the snacks in the room were tempting but a bit pricey. But there is a market next door so plan accordingly. Came back to the Alamo with a 5 month old puppy and it was the right choice for a dog's first trip. The property is perfect because they have lots of grassy areas for play and potty trips and dog treats in each common area. The location is unbeatable since it's a quick walk to and from town, so if we needed to take him back for a few, it was a minor detour. There were some other dogs staying here and we had only positive, leashed encounters. From a human's POV, the room had the same quirks as our previous stay, but it was very comfortable and convenient overall! read more

For what it is, the Alamo Motel is perfect. Ideally located on the primary street in the middle of town - easy walk to everything. The rooms are very well presented and the beds are completely legit and very comfortable. My wife and I have stayed in many different rooms and they are all nice. The bathrooms are adequate. Best of all, the place is very clean and entirely up to date. This is not a shabby old motel - not at all. And the grounds are welcoming. I'm giving this place 5 stars based on a variety of factors and knowing what it is and what it isn't. It's not an upscale 5 star resort hence the term "Motel" that is appropriately used. It gets 5 stars based on location, value and cool/hipster value. Perfectly situated in the middle of the main albeit not that busy main drag. You can walk in 5-7 minutes in either direction to get to the edges of town. Many eateries including a Michelin star restaurant across the street. A few very neat shops up and down the street and a couple of convenience stores etc. excellent breakfast lunch and dinner options and several quaint wine and beer tasting rooms. Would be nice if the motel had a pool like the sky view but it does have very nice well kept outdoor seating areas with a firepit and a small free standing bar serving drinks all day and until 9-10 at night. The staff of young ladies here were super helpful, friendly and delightful. That really makes a difference in a stay at a small place like this. I highly recommend the Sunday thru Thursday stays which range from $110-$179 a night depending on room choice. The standard rooms are pretty small but AC works well and the water pressure here is unreal!!!!! The highest pressure I've ever felt! The Skyview up the hill is definitely nicer but almost 2X the price and not a walk to town. We got the king suite which had a full kitchen, outdoor sitting area, dining room, living room and nice separate bedroom and bath. Could actually live in the space if it has a washer and dryer! I love staying somewhere that parking is free, not valet, and no resort fee! No free breakfast and the always dangerous in room snacks that are overpriced and no coffee or water in the rooms but you have spa water in the office and string coffee at 8 am in the office. They really do need to offer half n half with it as opposed to oat and almond milk or 2% milk. This added to my labeling this place as hipster but not in a bad way. I'm sure I will be returning for the rustic folksy yet hipster in town experience. Just know almost nothing is open on Mondays except Charlie's which btw is awesome! read more

Really appreciate the last minute accommodations traveling back to Los Angeles from SLO. The pricing was economical and the rooms were good/clean/comfortable. The yards and the little bar are perfect little hangs, even romantic in the evenings how the space lights up. But my rating is mostly driven by just how wonderful/friendly the entire staff was. It was beyond refreshing how genuinely kind everyone was. Special shout out to Sacheen, she offered impeccable service and overall a very delightful/lovely human. Because of the staff and the proximity to everything, I'd stay here again. Note: We love Los Alamos and the location of this motel is as good as it gets. We sat outside in the yards and by the bar mostly which was like hanging in the front yard at home. It was ideal for what we needed. Like most motels/hotels, sometimes the adjacent room could throw the experience off a bit. Or maybe it's the design of the rooms as the adjacent room had their tv on pretty late into the night and unfortunately the head of our bed was on the other side of the wall of where the tv was/is in the adjacent room. Assuming this is the set up in all the rooms. 1st night no problem, 2nd night wasn't ideal. read more

My favorite place to stay in the area. There is a common fire pit/wine bar area that is often lively and social in the evening. The location is right in the middle of town, so several fine options for breakfast and dinner are easy walking distance, There is a good market right next door. For the price, this is a good deal. Some rooms have big standalone bathtubs, and #14 is apparently a kind of suite with its own outdoor space. Rooms themselves have hot water for making tea, plus a small refrigerator. Coffee is available in the office each morning. The rooms are not perfect -- there are places where finishing details could be better -- but they are clean and quiet and comfortable, with great beds and plenty of hot water. read more

I will start with the positives. The women in the office are friendly and helpful. The bed was great. Walking distance to coffee, grocery store and local restaurants. Daily maid service and clean towels are great. The text message I received said to check in at the office until 10 PM. I arrived well before 10 and there was no one in the office. I finally located someone by phone and was told to check in at the bar. Then there was no hot water at the kitchen or bathroom sink. I found out that I had to first turn on the hot water in the shower for a few minutes and then I could get hot water in the other locations. There were two places to plug in anything that required electricity, and neither was in the bathroom. They did bring me extension cords for my hair dryer. i rotated plugging in other things. The coffee maker was a Mister Coffee and needs to be upgraded to at least Keurig or preferably to Nespresso. There was no comfortable chair to sit in, but just 2 wooden folding chairs. The floor is subfloor wood. This motel needs to move into this century where possible. It is definitely too expensive for what you get. read more

This motel is cute, simple and affordable!. There's a really cute courtyard area, with a sitting area and a fire pit. During these covid-times, masks are required in the courtyard area. Also during these times, there is no housekeeping. Your room has cleaning supplies for you to keep it tidy, at your leisure. As well, it's a contact-less check-in/checkout process. This hotel is in terrible shape and they did a really lame attempt at a remodel. The rooms have exposed subfloors, walls in the bathrooms are peeling, torn curtain liners without a shower curtain, single pane windows, paper thin walls, completely worn out hide on the floor. Eh. We've stayed here a couple times hoping our stays would be better, because it's so centrally located. But even though it looks really cool and the aesthetics are great, the quality is just not there. The walls are SOOOO THIIIIN. Like, I don't know why they didn't invest in fixing this, it's a huge issue. You hear every time your neighbor turns on the tv, every time they close their door. One time we went and they people next door were laughing and talking until 3 am and we got absolutely no sleep. I've never gotten good sleep at this hotel. Other minor things like why aren't there plugs by the bed? The fact that their wine bar is almost never open when they say it is. The bathtub is nice, and the room looks cool, but damn I need sleep and this ain't it. read more

I'm glad we chose the Alamo Motel over the Skyview. The Skyview it turns out is next to the freeway opposite Los Alamos and it isn't mentioned in their website. From the Alamo you can walk to all the restaurants and there is a market next door. All very convenient. The guy that checked us in was very nice, welcoming and friendly as was the nice young lady who came to help us figure out how to work the TV. We arrived about a half hour early and he let us check in. I noticed they had Palo Santo sticks in the office and he let us take one with us which was awesome. I would like to mention is that I read some of the reviews after our stay and I just shook my head and laughed. Some of the people should just stick to Courtyard Marriott or Best Western if they are going to be triggered by decor that is creative, artsy with a hip vibe. The wood floors were so cool and unique. The bed was comfy like a cloud. The handcrafted furniture was very unique and cool. The bathroom had Saltillo tile and a cute clamshell sink. Yeah, the walls are a little thin, but I have stayed in many different places and it's common even high end places. That's how it is, bring earplugs in case, geez. The room was clean, the AC was nice, and unlike other reviews there was plenty of hot water. There are beautiful cactus' around the property and the one in front of our room bloomed at night! The walls are too thin. If you get so unlucky as to have "loud" neighbors, then good luck sleeping. I didn't get good sleep here at all, and I would've requested a room change but their receptionist is gone after 10:30pm. Would definitely avoid this place next time. read more

Okay okay... I'll admit I was a bit sketched out by google reviews having two mentions of bed bugs... I mean I know ANY motel/hotel can get bed bugs.. they like to travel too lol. BUT after getting over that and checking the mattress/area ourselves we settled in and really enjoyed our stay! I'll address a few things others mentioned: NOT MANY PLACES OPEN TUESDAY/WEDNESDAY. Like only two spots with $$$$$$$ signs haha. We ventured to Solvang for sausage and beer for dinner - not a big deal and only 20mins away. Lighting / yes not the brightest lighting in the rooms (although the bathroom light is SO bright haha). But we don't mind moodier lighting and prefer it to relax and unwind. Lysol smell / more like pinesol lol... definitely there and strong but we'd rather know a place is clean? Maybe a lighter scented cleaner could be used though. Shower / idk if the water in it was nice - we skipped showers during our stay cause it was a shorter visit. But yes, out of everything the shower could use updating! It does look overlooked and doesn't fit the rest of the "vibes". Other than that, it was a super cute decorated place!! Loved the idea of s'mores and how it made it more communal. FOR VEGANS / there is animal skin on the floor lolol I mean it was branded... but could still just be fake? Idk if that even matters to you haha! read more

I had high hopes of enjoying my stay here, and don't make a habit of writing a negative review--especially because a friend recommended the property. But that said, I was disappointed. It's true the rustic decor is cute and the outdoor fire pit area nicely set up for Covid social distancing. The photos on their site, however, don't accurately portray the room I stayed in. The floor and cowhide rug was very dirty, and the off-putting odor reminiscent of the Powell St. BART station. I should've gone to the front desk to switch rooms, but was occupied visiting with local friends, and did not think to say anything until I realized how unpleasant the lingering smell was as I prepared to check out. And rather than go check the room after I mentioned it, the person at reception simply said she hadn't had any prior complaints. So I guess I was wrong? On the positive side, the bed was very comfortable. I hope to have better luck elsewhere, next time. The area is lovely for relaxing and bike-riding, an easy drive from Los Angeles. read more

Stayed here last weekend for a getaway from LA. I'm a sucker for little towns and I feel like I really hit the jackpot staying at this motel. Easy check in (covid protocols in place), had a room with two queen beds. The room was clean and so adorable. Loved the minimalist feel to it. The beds were super comfortable and (for those that care) the water pressure of the shower is great. The fire pit, tree swings, and games are a nice addition, along with the Muni Wine bar which had a nice selection of local wines. The Motel is located right on Bell street, which is where all of the restaurants/wine bars sit an are within walking distance. Would def stay here again when I need to escape the craziness of the city! read more

Shelter Social Club keeps a high standard for their properties! This looks almost exactly like the Ojai Rancho Inn but at much cheaper prices. I think I paid $81 total for a big spacious room with bed that had the most comfortable pillows. I had a table for two and a fridge. The heater warmed up the whole room. The motel is older so the floors were a little creaky and I could hear other people through the walls. Still, I loved this rustic space! It's downtown (on their small main street) and walkable to everything, especially if you're stumbling back from drinking wine. read more

Two complaints: -walls are paper thin and you can hear your neighbors -they need to do something about that flimsy, transparent window treatment because my hotel room faced east and took a brutal sun beating in the wee hours of the morning Other than that, I really enjoyed my visit here. The decor is minimal and inviting. My particular room had a small kitchen, so I had the option of staying in and cooking. Location wise, it is smack dab in the middle of everything, making it incredibly convenient. What really sold me was their little outdoor space. They lowkey place music throughout the day. There's also a wine bar located on the property. To the side of the wine bar is a pile of firewood that guests can use to start up a fire in the fire pit. My friend and I had a really good time getting to know other hotel guests. It just a promotes a sense of friendliness and solidarity that seems lacking in other parts of life as of recent. I came to Los Alamos to untap, and Alamo Motel was integral to that experience. read more

Excellent staycation weekend at the Alamo before the Covid lockdown #2 went into effect. I will definitely "remember the Alamo" after setting my friends up to stay at this charming, rustic motel in the center of town and conveniently located in wine country. The rooms are clean, minimalist and very comfortable. The grounds are beautifully manicured, with picnic areas and a fire pit for socially distanced hang by the fire at night (pre-lockdown) with their locally sourced Muni wine to enjoy. I loved my experience so much, that I extended my stay an extra day to explore the town and artisan stores nearby. Check out The Depot antique barn and bar, the Break Room, Pico and Bell's for dinner, Well Bread for breakfast, the Station for drinks... man, there is so much I wanna go back to. To justify their prices ($250+/nt) they really need to improve a few things. Honestly, they could cut their price in half and I would still not stay here ever again for several reasons to follow. They get away with overcharging because there are only 2 motels and one B&B in town. Boy do we wish we stayed at the B&B. The other motel is a bit farther away so not as ideal. Alamo motel location is excellent (The whole town is 0.2 mi long on one street), only steps from the wedding venue we were there for. First, Alamo sent an excessive number of emails and texts reminding us and check-in procedures (we knew to just check in after 3pm--not too complicated). Check in was easy-the girl very nice-I wish the she has told us where to get coffee in the morning as there is no coffee maker in the room (but interestingly they used up the tiny space available to put out a bunch of overpriced snacks for sale). Since their office doesn't open until 10am (even if an employee is in there), and most of the town is closed until 11am--coffee on Sat morning became a minor emergency--LOL! The wine bar is nice but we wished it stayed open later Fri night. The room: a ridiculous lack of lighting-bad location of plugs for charging. We travel a lot and I have NEVER been in such a dark room---BUY SOME LIGHTS with plugs/usb ports!!!!!!! The bed was comfortable and the shower power was strong. The room seemed clean and we appreciated the mini frig which worked well. The TV was complicated and didn't even get ESPN much of the time, much less ?TBS, FS1 so MLB playoffs not available--9500 stations (which was really about 15 stations repeated over and over). The property is really nice and the staff was amazing! Working in hospitality for over 15 years I can say that this is a good place to stay. The room was clean and I liked the decorations. It's an older property and has a little quirk here and there but that would not deter my staying in the future. My only complaint was the room I stayed in could use a floor lamp since the room was a bit dim at night especially since I wanted to read but it's ok I still enjoyed it there. PS the wine bar on property has some good wines and really nice staff as well. We bought a bottle of the blush which is something I never drink but was really good. And the town has things going on around it as far as good food and more wine! read more

Saw both the standard room and the elevated one with a bathtub etc. definitely a large difference between the quality of the rooms and the experience would not have been as positive if I'd stayed in the standard room. Pretty expensive for such a dirty feeling place. The floors were filthy and look like unfinished plywood or particle board. I felt really gross the whole time I was there. Def no frills - the pictures are so deceiving - it's definitely a roughing it type of place rather than a hipster paradise. Has that shady motel vibe with a fresh splat of paint and a set of new IKEA sheets. We found the Alamo on Hotels Tonight and we were pleased with our one night stay! The rate was very competitive $149/night (w/ tax $171 on a Thursday) and the dog fee was unbeatable at $20.00/night. The room was spacious with a kitchenette. The linen was clean and the duvet was white down. The grounds are super cute, very hipster with a fire pit, horseshoes, and the wine room on site. There is also a small market next door which is convenient. There is a Park next to the market that was nice to take our dog out to. We tried Bob's Well Bread in the morning and had the best chocolate croissants and coffee. We also walked through a few of the shops on our way out. The Alamo Motel was 15 minutes out of Downtown Los Olivos and was a great nights sleep that was dog friendly and price aware after wine tasting. There isn't really a lot to do in Los Alamos so I would make this a two night stay max on your way up to SF or down to LA if you need a break. read more

Well, the owners of this motel should be complimented on a successful buisiness & marketing plan that takes what is basically a run down, out dated Hotel/Motel and charge four star prices by convincing people that they are getting a retro, kitsch motel experience from the 1950-60's. During the evenings, the retro starved Gen X'rs gather at the waterfall/fire pit area to exchange stories about their urban... urbane lives, and absolutely live the experience. Far be it fir me to criticize, as I said, BRILLIANT marketing. And if you are looking for this type experience, this place is WELL DONE! But for me, the reality was a run down, outdated, dirty room. Insects on the bed. No maid services of course. And if you need anything you had better ask before 8:00pm when the office closes. And you will pay $250-350 for your room. For me.... I have had the same experience at any Motel 6 for $49.00. read more

Wow, where do I begin? THE ROOMS: Super clean, modern, and cozy. Our bed is so fluffy and I just want to lay in it all day! We opted in for a king sized room which has everything we need: a clean bathroom and shower, a separate room with an elaborate gold accented tub (can't wait to spend much time in there!), a flat screen TV, decent sized fridge compared to other hotels, and a closet large enough to hang a month's worth of clothes. THE ATMOSPOHERE: Picture this: Palm Springs modern vibes MEETS rustic wine country. White walls, bedding & front doors, cacti landscaping in front of each room, and a fire pit with tons of guests laughing and having a good time in the center court. I guess one could say I am just feeling grateful, considering we were evacuated from the fires yesterday and are worried about the safety of our home. It's just a breath of fresh air to find such a wonderful and homey feel while such disasters are taking place. PS- the manager not only gave us a discount for being evacuees of the fire, but tried her absolute hardest to search for a king sized room (which she found!). We also have our two kitties here and they welcomed them without question. read more

First time here, but definitely not the last. Very conscientious about COVID precautions, including contactless check in/out and no maid service during your stay which we definitely appreciated. We had a double queen room which had been renovated (except the bathroom), and was very clean. Even though rooms have been updated, this is still a motor lodge type motel, so don't complain about it not being the Ritz. For those looking for a clean room and a comfortable bed, within walking distance to everything in Los Alamos, this is the place. We would definitely recommend and are already making plans to return. read more
