Every year I head to Sunstone Winery around this time and each year I spend the night somewhere new. I liked the proximity to Solvang even though we spent zero time there, as well as the easy drive to and from Sunstone. Service at Sideways was exceptionally friendly all over the property. The place was clean, including the gym which was well equipped. Our room was comfortable and I appreciated the mini fridge and microwave. We were able to buy food on the way up for our picnic at Sunstone and keep it fresh for the next day. I appreciated this and it helped tremendously. Would I go again? Absolutely.

Watched Monday night football at this location. Texans vs Steelers. The Decor made it feel like a place for sports with an Irish old school touch to it. Place is Clean! Ordered beer and Wine. Received my beverages immediately by our bartender who was nice and professional! I did not get his name but he was on shift that day. BIG Kudos to him for being an excellent bartender that night. This place is a hotel with a separate bar. I checked in the front desk thinking the bar was inside. I also heard the Sideways Inn was in a popular movie. Lol Good place to chill and socialize. I recommend! Good experience

This place has received a lot of updates since it appeared in the movie Sideways - including the name, as it used to be called The Windmill Inn. Our room with a king size bed was clean, comfortable, and functional. It had a microwave, fridge with a separate freezer compartment, coffee maker, TV, desk, 2 armchairs, and more. There were a good amount of power outlets, and the free WiFi was fast enough for streaming. Noise isolation was not the best. While none of it was excessive, we did hear noise from a contractor crew chatting outside for several hours, people walking above us, plumbing noise from neighbors, and the muffled sound of the TV next door. Complimentary breakfast items are delivered to your door in the morning. You place your order the day before and you can select the items you want and the time you want them delivered. While nothing fancy, it was nice to get some basic items like oranges, eggs, orange juice, and a bagel. The common amenities were the best thing about this place. The lobby is really charming and makes a great first impression. The central courtyard has a pool and a couple fire pits, perfect for lounging. The fitness center was the second best I've seen in any hotel (the best being at the Hilton Tokyo Bay). The fitness center has several cardio machines including rowers, treadmills, ellipticals, and air bikes. There's also a squat rack, free weights up to 75 lbs, medicine balls, kettlebells, a punching bag, a couple weight machines, and more. This equipment selection is leagues above your typical hotel gym! 4.5 stars overall, rounded up because this place clearly takes pride in what they do. And the price was reasonable for the level of amenities. Maybe next time we'll see if we can get a room on the second floor!

Sofa covered with greasy and dirty patches

Room condition & cleanliness: * Paint chipped off the door frame. * Multiple stains on the carpet. * Bathroom floor had visible dirt and marks. * Sofa covered with greasy and dirty patches. Facilities & comfort: * No telephone in the room -- we couldn't report the barking dog next door. * Shower room has no door at all, which made it very inconvenient. * TV does not support external devices (e.g. Nintendo Switch). * Charging port hidden behind bedside table, very difficult to reach. Service: * Completely inflexible on late checkout. When we asked for just 30 minutes, the front desk rejected immediately without even checking availability.

The property has a spacious lobby, plenty of outdoor seating with cozy fire pits, a nice swimming pool with a Jacuzzi, and a complimentary breakfast served daily from 6:00 to 10:00 a.m. One of our favorite features was the peaceful setting. Behind the hotel is a small hillside, which gives the property a quiet, secluded feel surrounded by nature. In the evenings, we loved relaxing by the fire pits, enjoying takeout dinner paired with some local wines. The pool area was well maintained, with plenty of fresh towels and ample lounge chairs. The complimentary breakfast had a good variety of options, including bread, omelets, pancakes, yogurt, cereal, muffins, oatmeal, and fresh coffee. They also offer a 24/7 coffee station in the lobby along with complimentary apples, which was a nice touch. Our room was spacious, clean, and comfortable. The bed was very cozy, and the hotel was quiet at night, making it easy to get a good night's sleep. There's also a great brewery nearby that's worth checking out for good food and drinks. If you're planning to visit Solvang and Santa Barbara, I would definitely recommend staying here.

The price was affordable and we had booked a few days prior. We were welcomed by the night time Innskeeper, Joan who warmly welcomed us. We were very touched by the warm hospitality and how helpful she was (shared her recommendations for food places and gave helpful tips and showed us a map of the area) She had us checked in less than 10 minutes and we were sent off to our room. The overall room was spacious, cozy, and clean. We had stayed on upper floor. The bed was cozy, there was cable, and the towels were fluffy. The tap water tasted good (they do a great job with the purification) and the shower pressure was perfect after a couple hours of straight driving. There are no elevators so please be mindful of that! They have complimentary coffee and danishes from a local danish bakery from solvang. There is orange and cranberry juice for those who dont want coffee or tea. This is from 7 am - 10 am. The area its self has golfing for kids, a heated swimming pool and the inn partners with multiple local shops and areas which offer you a discount if you show the little "passport card" they give you when you check in. Aside from that, housekeeping is splendid. Our first time experience went well and we are so excited to book again in the near future.

One was inside, near the bed next to the balcony door, and the other was outside on the balcony, next to a small pile of cigarette butts. The sofa had a large dark stain with what looked like chocolate shavings. In the bathroom, fresh towels were placed on top of an exposed dirty pipe in one of the cubbies under the sink vanity. I'm curious to know why there are any exposed pipes in the first place. I'm sure having exposed pipes violates multiple city and health codes. One unique thing I noticed at this Marriott hotel was that the room had Febreze Car Clip Air Fresheners attached to the AC vents. I've never seen this at any other hotel. I'm not sure if this is standard practice at this hotel or if it was added to this particular room because the previous guest smoked in it. I emailed the hotel general manager, never received a reply or courtesy call. This is not what we expected from a reputable brand like Marriott.

I read through some of the negative reviews before booking, and honestly, I think they completely missed the mark. This hotel sits right at the beginning of the Solvang strip, and in my opinion, it's the perfect location. You're just steps away from all the shops, restaurants, and even one of the local breweries, but far enough from the center of town that you can actually enjoy a peaceful night's sleep. If you're someone who insists on staying right in the middle of all the action, this may not be the spot for you--but don't expect much quiet over there! The hotel has been newly renovated, and our room was adorable, clean, and very comfortable. The staff was incredibly accommodating and quick to respond to anything we needed. They truly made us feel welcome throughout our stay. The property itself isn't huge, but they did an excellent job making the most of the space. There's a cute full-service bar with indoor and outdoor seating, a café offering breakfast, pastries, coffee, and a surprisingly good selection of food throughout the day. The lobby also has a convenient grab-and-go market, and outside you'll find a cozy fire pit lounge with games and a relaxing water feature that makes for a great place to unwind in the evening. There isn't a pool, but honestly, that's not why you come to Solvang. If you're looking for outdoor adventures, you're just a short drive from Lake Cachuma and the beach. But let's be real--most people come here for the amazing food, wine, shopping, and the charming Danish village atmosphere, and this hotel puts you close to all of it. I'm actually surprised there aren't more reviews for this property because it was completely sold out during our stay, and now I understand why. Out of the several Hilton properties I stayed at during my trip this week, this one was easily my favorite. Great job to the entire team! You all set the standard for hospitality. Hopefully, the San Francisco Hilton team can take a few notes from you!

I called the local number, got a human, and she got me set up with my door code and emailed instructions in about 15 minutes. Everything after that was smooth sailing. Clean, soft but comfortable bed, lovely Danish decor, a modern bathroom with rainfall shower head, Malin & Goetz toiletries, bottled water, local coffee from Santa Barbara in the Keurig-like in-room maker, two glass glasses and two coffee cups, a modern fridge, new A/C. I had a moment with the A/C at 4am when it kept turning on and off, but once I figured out it was on Eco-mode, I turned that to regular and all was well. They were friendly, diligent, and the cleanliness of the room was excellent. They were actually helpful in many other ways as they had to show us where the manager's room was located - as there were no signs. It was the room with McDonald's trash waiting to be carried out. Unfortunately, the rest of our experience was disappointing. When we arrived, the manager told us we had to wait for him to "clock back in from lunch" before he could help us. After the wait, he walked us to our room, and we were surprised by how incredibly small it was. There was barely enough space for two people to move around the bed, and one person had to step aside just so the other could get into the bathroom. There wasn't even a small table or desk, so I had nowhere to work or even sit comfortably to enjoy a cup of coffee. Booking was also frustrating. I called the hotel directly to ask about my employer discount, but the person who answered wasn't very helpful and told me I had to book through a specific website. We did, but nowhere on that site did it accurately convey just how tiny the room would be. Had we known, we would have stayed elsewhere, since I was there for work. The excellent housekeeping staff is the reason I'm giving more than one star. Management, communication, and transparency about the room size (including the pictures on their website) all need significant improvement.

You recycled an old Original signed hotel registration guest card from "someplace" from 2005! Did you have another property with 28+ rooms? And WHY would you hold onto papers that long & why did you not shred it? You should be shredding guest reg. cards & NOT hand out people's personal info in ANY capacity! 2.) Other few negatives to note: I did not trust the cleaning skills. A soapy, used washcloth was left hanging on the shower pipe. There is a bit of mold at the shower ceiling, upper walls, floor corners & wall tiles that should be bleached & the ceiling should be painted with mold resistant paint. Room AC vent should be disinfected to prevent it from smelling like ammonia (urine) when using fan only mode. 3.) Note: Caught on my security camera-mgr opening rm door to look in & inspect--10 min after I left the property. She did not call me. I did not trust their cleaners & I did not want folks in/out due to Covid. I always travel with a security camera now after I had cleaners open my door to attempt to enter my room at an SD hotel, while I was inside sleeping (thankfully the big security latch prevented them from entering) ~~So pls do not enter rooms when guests are not there & you agreed to "not enter". You asked about needing service & we agreed to "NO Service" & that I'd throw my own trash in the dumpster & I'd request items as needed.
