    Room with king size bed
    Anson W.

This place has received a lot of updates since it appeared in the movie Sideways - including the name, as it used to be called The Windmill Inn. Our room with a king size bed was clean, comfortable, and functional. It had a microwave, fridge with a separate freezer compartment, coffee maker, TV, desk, 2 armchairs, and more. There were a good amount of power outlets, and the free WiFi was fast enough for streaming. Noise isolation was not the best. While none of it was excessive, we did hear noise from a contractor crew chatting outside for several hours, people walking above us, plumbing noise from neighbors, and the muffled sound of the TV next door. Complimentary breakfast items are delivered to your door in the morning. You place your order the day before and you can select the items you want and the time you want them delivered. While nothing fancy, it was nice to get some basic items like oranges, eggs, orange juice, and a bagel. The common amenities were the best thing about this place. The lobby is really charming and makes a great first impression. The central courtyard has a pool and a couple fire pits, perfect for lounging. The fitness center was the second best I've seen in any hotel (the best being at the Hilton Tokyo Bay). The fitness center has several cardio machines including rowers, treadmills, ellipticals, and air bikes. There's also a squat rack, free weights up to 75 lbs, medicine balls, kettlebells, a punching bag, a couple weight machines, and more. This equipment selection is leagues above your typical hotel gym! 4.5 stars overall, rounded up because this place clearly takes pride in what they do. And the price was reasonable for the level of amenities. Maybe next time we'll see if we can get a room on the second floor!

Sofa covered with greasy and dirty patches

Room condition & cleanliness: * Paint chipped off the door frame. * Multiple stains on the carpet. * Bathroom floor had visible dirt and marks. * Sofa covered with greasy and dirty patches. Facilities & comfort: * No telephone in the room -- we couldn't report the barking dog next door. * Shower room has no door at all, which made it very inconvenient. * TV does not support external devices (e.g. Nintendo Switch). * Charging port hidden behind bedside table, very difficult to reach. Service: * Completely inflexible on late checkout. When we asked for just 30 minutes, the front desk rejected immediately without even checking availability.

Wife and I traveled to Buellton recently. Visited Solvang while there. Room was clean, and my wife asked for ground floor with handicap amenities for me. I use a cane and a walker. Everything was clean, and nice. They have a nice fire pit and a nice swimming pool. They have a nice morning breakfast too. We'll definitely stay here again sometime.

I really enjoyed our stay here. A group of 4 of us were supposed to be in Yosemite over the weekend but they closed the park preemptively due to potential flooding with the high temps and melting snow. We pivoted plans and decided to head south instead to Santa Ynez Valley. We were able to book a spot at the Sideways Inn on Thursday for Friday through Sunday. I'll admit, I had lowish expectations given how reasonable the price was for 3 days (especially compared to in Santa Ynez / Los Olivos / Los Alamos). Plus while I'd spent tons of time in the valley, I'd never stayed in / nor did I know much about Buellton and what there was to do there. To say I was pleasantly surprised would be an understatement. The hotel was in a perfect location - walking distance to restaurants, bars, and coffee and a 10 minute drive to anywhere else. There was a pool, hot tub, and fire pits to sit by in the evening. The rooms were spacious and clean and ours had a little balcony overlooking the pool. The old photos and decor were such a nice touch. The sideways lounge was perfect for grabbing a bite (pretzel bites, a ceasar salad, or some sausages), and had a great bar with fantastic drinks (recommend the paloma with nosotros blanco tequila). The staff couldn't have been nicer. We spent most of the weekend bopping around Santa Ynez, Los Olivos, seeing the wildflowers, and hiking Fig mountain. But this was such a perfect home base to come back to and jump in the pool, grab a drink, and sit by the fire pit. Overall, was such a funky, sweet little hidden gem and I'll absolutely recommend it to anyone looking for a getaway in the valley.i

The TV the entire time we were there - some channels were fine but all the main channels looked like this.

Super bummed to write this review as we were really looking forward to staying at the Sideways Inn. Being super fans of the movie we thought it would be a fun experience to stay at the same place. It has definitely had a makeover since the movie which is great as it is not the dungy looking hotel in the movie. We checked in by a friendly staff member (sorry forgot the name) and loved the lobby area that had snacks and fun Sideways Inn apparel which I knew I would be purchasing later on. We get our room and it is just OK, we don't need anything fancy, just a comfy bed, a TV that works, and a decent working bathroom. The bed wasn't terrible as we never got a backache after sleeping so that was a win. The bathroom was rather interesting as the toilet was so incredibly low to the ground that it almost felt like it was a childs size. It did not seem to be a standard size at all. The shower was ok but it has a half door that was not desirable as all the nice warm air that a shower creates escapes into the bathroom. The TV was an absolute joke and we had maintenance come and take a look at it. They were super prompt and kind, but told us to unplug the cable cord and wait a few moments and try again. He said the cable on that area of the hotel (south east corner) needed a booster to really work. Granted, we are not going to be binge watching a show, but it would be nice to have something on in the background while getting ready to go out or before bed. Especially with us being there for the last weekend of the Olympics. There was also a serious hole in the floor that was just covered by carpet. We checked out by someone who could care less about us or our stay. We just got "you're checked out, drop the keys there" We happily left and did not purchase a commemorative shirt.

Sideways Inn is a lovely, modern inn with great amenities, where we spent a night on our way to Santa Barbara in June, 2024. The beds were comfortable, and the coffee was excellent, sourced from the Santa Barbara Roasting Company, with decaf options available as well. The inn features a hot tub, but the main one is quite small, so we couldn't use it. However, we discovered two other hot tub/pool areas just a five-minute walk away by the RV park. The one we visited was much better and even had cute cabanas. There is a lounge on the premises with lovely drinks, although the food was greasy pub fare. The staff was very friendly and made our stay enjoyable. The only drawback was the bright light by the room door, which couldn't be fully blocked by the shades, making it difficult to keep the room dark at night. This design flaw was the reason I deducted a star from my rating. PS. Sideways, please fix the darkening and I will be back

This place is cool when you walk in to check in to get to the point they offer you your room no hassle whatsoever. We got to the room. The beds seemed clean. The dogs were sniffing around like crazy. I put puppy pads down just in case they were accidents, I put the black light on because I usually carry one with me to make sure the rooms are clean before I lay down on the beds and there was dog piss everywhere. Inside of the bathroom, there was residue of dog poop that wasn't wiped off all the way so that was kind of disturbing. I was getting in the shower. There was no body wash. I use the shampoo for body wash. I believe it was lavender. I'm allergic to lavender so I was itchy. I didn't notice I put it on so I use the conditioner to clean my body of that obviously from there was itchy. The neighbors at night or ridiculously loud the children were running around screaming knocking on the doors. It sound of life, but I'm pretty sure it was the wall. This is happening all night. When we checked in, they informed us how to order breakfast. I ordered breakfast. It did not show up the next morning until we went downstairs. We told them we can't do this again due to the piss all over the room and there were dark spots on the carpet as well. I informed her that we didn't get our breakfast so they did get it for us. I rented the room for 2 1/2 days. They only reimburse me 25 bucks. That's not really you know good business. I honestly don't believe but whatever I will not be staying there again.

    Check-in please

The only thing that I would improve here is adding a second bench so if there are more than one person trying to use it, other than that a great gym and have all you need for a great workout. We were excited to use it but were told multiple times it was not ready until 7 or 7:30 pm. I even called twice, and when we were finally told it was ready, we went down right away and both fire pits were already taken. We only got to enjoy it for about an hour before it was shut off at 10 pm. It would have been better if we were told to go down earlier or given an option to reserve instead of being told to wait. It was really cold and we ended up waiting outside, which took away from the experience. Kids enjoyed the pool and hot tub while we waited in the cold. But overall, would stay again.

I'm curious to know why there are any exposed pipes in the first place. I'm sure having exposed pipes violates multiple city and health codes. One unique thing I noticed at this Marriott hotel was that the room had Febreze Car Clip Air Fresheners attached to the AC vents. I've never seen this at any other hotel. I'm not sure if this is standard practice at this hotel or if it was added to this particular room because the previous guest smoked in it. Breakfast was great - the usual waffle maker, scrambled eggs (obviously made from powder, but still ok), bacon, sausage, yogurt, fruit, juices, biscuits and gravy, cold cereal and more. The only complaint I had was the tea bags were all caffeinated. The room was clean and spacious; with a refrigerator, coffee pot and microwave oven. Cons: traffic noise even on the non-freeway side. It wasn't bad between 11pm and 5am, even with the window open, but at 5am the truck traffic started. There is also a large gas station right across the street, and semi trucks park in front of the inn at night. This was a non-smoking room - however, people obviously smoke in the enclosed hallway and the odor of smoke remains. There were a few issues in the room - grout around the tub was missing and small amounts of mold were beginning to appear. The AC unit was very loud and it smelled like the filter needed to be replaced. Noise from the neighbors was only when the shower was being used. The hotel staff were mostly wonderful - except at check-in late afternoon. The male clerk seemed flustered, commented that there were no guarantees for early check-in, even though we had gotten approval when we booked. He ended up making 3 phone calls before we were able to check in - and did not give me any information while I was waiting, and did not apologize fore the wait which I would have expected. When I called to ask where the nearest ice machine was, he said all the way down in the lobby - but I found that there was one on the next floor down which was much more convenient. Not sure why he didn't direct me to a closer one. All in all, I would stay here again - but would probably request a different room - when booked, the site stated there was a mountain view. The view is of the parking lot, street, gas station and some other businesses and homes. No mountains there! They also didn't pick up when we tried to call, but they eventually returned our text message, so allow for a bit of delay in reaching them. The room was fine but small. There was a TV, mini fridge with no freezer section, small coffee maker that didn't work well, and a small table over the fridge that had barely enough room for me to sit at to use my laptop. Lighting was a bit too dim. The free WiFi was reliable and fast enough for streaming. The wall heater worked amazingly well. In the bathroom, the sink was very low and the shower pressure was only strong when the water was on the cold setting. Noise isolation was average - we heard some plumbing and muffled conversation from the adjacent unit, but people were generally respectful. There's a common room with an ice machine, microwave, and extras like toilet paper and cutlery for guests to use. Outside there are three fire pits, a bike station with tools and a pump, a bocce ball court, and cornhole boards. The cornhole bean bags are easy to miss - they're actually in a little bucket in each room. Guests here are also able to use the fitness center at Sideways Inn, the nearby sister hotel. Their fitness center is pretty legit, especially if you're into weight training. 3.5 stars overall. Hotel Hygge was the cheapest place in town by far (at least on the Capital One travel portal that we booked through), so I was willing to overlook a lot of the shortcomings.
