Quaint but quirky - part hotel, part airbnb. A decent (and reasonably priced) last-minute find. You check in by key code (no front desk) and have a number to call in case of any problems. We had to call several times: For more towels, for more instant coffee (there's an electric kettle in a small kitchen with a microwave), and to figure out how to work the TV (which had a box literally hanging off of it and dangling down the wall), apparently not an uncommon issue since there's a note saying to call before 9 pm if the TV won't work. We also had to specifically request the breakfast and 2-for-1 wine tasting coupons advertised. That said, each time someone helpfully turned up (or offered to do so). But each time it also felt like the bare minimum (how many towels do you want; how many coffee packets?) Also had ants in the kitchen and had to text several times to get that taken care of; returned to a room smelling like unpleasant disinfectant and ... ants. Room was otherwise clean and cute. Bed was big and comfortable. Sheets / linens somewhat basic but not at all bad. We were in No. 2, which had a nice sitting area and lots of light if you don't mind everyone walking past on the street seeing you. And they kindly moved someone else who was just arriving around so we could stay put for another night and not switch rooms. Surprisingly quiet from the outside, though. Inside, another story. I don't know what they were doing above us - one can only imagine - but it went until well after midnight and started up again around 7 am. Tromping and banging that made our whole room shake a bit. Didn't hear our neighbors to the side or anything from the courtyard (also cute and a nice place to sit in the morning). All this said, I'd recommend, and I'd stay there again. We looked at a few hotels before choosing this one and it was by far nicer than most of them, with bigger rooms and just a better vibe. read more

We stayed here October 11-13 to celebrate our son's birthday. Other family members stayed here as well, which made it nice! They offer the passport for wine tasting which is a nice extra but we don't drink. We were in the back of the inn, Room 4 on the ground floor with quick access to the parking lot, very convenient! Check in was contactless and smooth. It was done via email and/or text message. The spacious, very clean room had high ceilings and is simply decorated with nice laminate floors. It had nice privacy shades and we could open the windows in the bedroom area. The bathroom was huge! It would have been nice to see an actual vanity instead of an impractical pedestal sink. Thankfully there was a small set of drawers next to the sink for storage. The sink was slow to drain and may need a dose of Drano. Our bed was a little hard for us but the pillows and the bedding were nice. This is such a cute, charming little inn that was able to accommodate all of our family members easily so it made it so special. We gathered here to celebrate our son's birthday. A great fact here is that there is an elevator. The stairs are rather steep so having the elevator made it convenient especially hauling suitcases and bags to the upstairs rooms. The courtyard with seating is very nice and quaint. The mural is great! The cost was extremely reasonable considering all of the benefits of staying here. The location is so ideal. We were within walking distance to everything in Solvang. Just a jump, skip, & a hop away from Mortensen's Bakery. Plus being on a cul-de-sac there's not any heavy traffic or road noise to worry about. It was a very comfortable Solvang "home base." We hope to stay here next year! read more

Wouldn't stay again. Three stars bc the hosts were relatively easy to deal with and you can tell they keep the rooms clean, but we had several issues: We wrote a note on our booking that we were traveling in a tall vehicle and inquired about whether parking was OK. We had to ask again after receiving check in instructions, and were told it was outside so would be no problem. We arrived late at night to find only a few parking spots and a driveway all covered by low hanging tree branches. We ended up having to physically lift up a tree branch and then let it rest on our vehicle overnight because it didn't actually fit. When we got to the room, the key code we had been provided didn't work. In reviewing the check in instructions, we were surprised there was no number to call and only a number to text if it was an "EMERGENCY." We did text and waited outside about 5-10 min for the correct code. Seems like they should have a better policy for this if they're not on site and able to help guests when issues of their own fault arise. When we entered the room immediately discovered the bathroom was invested with ants. Hundreds if not thousands of tiny ants all over the walls, sink, toilet and vanity. There were two baits inside the vanity which is probably what was attracting them, and we are pretty understanding of this type of thing, but obviously you shouldn't use bait traps just before guests arrive. We texted the EMERGENCY number immediately and didn't hear back until near checkout the next day when they offered to send housekeeping. It was tough trying to fall asleep with the creepy crawlies, and we had booked the room specifically for a good shower/bathroom and solid night's rest before a long camping trip, so this totally negated the value of the $300/nt rate for us. The window shades are in-frame and don't go fully side to side, so the window that looks into the courtyard had a 2 in gap where you could clearly look into our room, right at the bed. The walls are so thin we heard every breath the neighbors took. Overall not the most terrible hotel experience we've had but we wouldn't stay again, too many frustrations and the hosts, though nice, seem annoyed that they have to host outside of standard business hours. read more

Overall I love this place. My girlfriend and I combed through 4 hotels in Solvang and looked through the photos and reviews and have that every one of it had bug issue from the pictures posted. All except this one, which is the main reason why we decided on the one. Plus the reviews were fairly great as well. I really enjoy the contactless check in. In opinion it makes everything super simple and convenient when everything works smoothly. The hotel pretty much will give you the check in detail along with the code to your door and the checkout information via text or email based on your preference the morning of the day of your first reservation. You just arrive and go in. They have a small parking lot for the guests but you can pretty much park any spot around the town that doesn't have overnight restriction. The entire place was neat, clean, and no apparent messiness. Such a cute studio looking room too. The only thing that could be a complaint would be the thin wall between rooms and the outside. You can kind of easily hear noises from the other end. But which is why they prepare us with two sets of earplugs knowing it. So that solution is why I am not complaining about it, plus the noises pretty much died down by 10 pm when everyone is sleeping anyways. P.S. you can't write about a hotel review without talking about the shower! It's all about the shower and this inn has some amazing shower radius with perfect hot water after a chilly evening air. It's a small town so all shop closed around 5:30 - 6:00 pm. But I would definitely recommend this place as an option. read more

Great place, very convenient location. Walking distance around everything. Room was nice and large. Stayed in room number one. They point out that the parking is in the back. Which I did I fact park there, yet I was also nervous I would get towed, since there was no way of showing my car was in fact with our room, if that makes sense. Another thing, we got there at check in at 4pm. The house keeping didn't even clean our room yet, she was in another room with all her supplies in our room, yet with nothing done yet. We had to wait outside in the court yard with all our belongings while she quickly and not so greatly cleaned our room. She was rude and didn't let us know when it was finished as well, she just went on to the next room. When checking out, she was impatiently waiting for us to leave to clean the room. I wonder why she didn't get it done that fast before we checked in, not professional at all unfortunately. The blinds to cover the windows, just not on the sides, so if you are not a morning person and want to sleep in. This might not be the place e for you, as the rooms get super bright, exactly at sunrise. We looked everywhere for an ice machine, I'm sorry but this should just be a give. At every hotel. read more

Cute little 8 room hotel. It's updated and clean. There's no office to check in, just text the hotel and they will respond. It's in a great central location in downtown Solvang, walkable to everything. The hotel gives you a coupon for a breakfast pastry and coffee/tea per guest at Olsen Bakery. They also give you a 2 for 1 wine tasting coupon that can be used at many wineries. We had a few issues but someone came quickly to resolve them. The sheets are very scratchy and you can tell it's not good quality but for the price and location I guess it's ok. We stayed in rooms 3 and 4 which were both king beds and can be joined if you prefer. There's also an extra door you can use for the communal patio. read more

I won't call the emergency number for a tv. I see previous users had a voucher at Olsens Bakery but nothing with our key. No worries. You can hear your neighbors but not so much tonight. My daughters and I stayed at the Atterdag Inn in Solvang for one night on November 23, 2020. Let me start with the bad... The walls are so thin. Get some of those silicone earplugs. There are just a few parking spots directly behind the Atterdag Inn... otherwise, there is a free public lot with a short walking distance. I did NOT like the lack of an additional security lock or even a latch on the door. Especially now that I no longer have the male companion that I thought would always be in my life... not cool. + our room was not ready at 3PM and when we got to the door, I felt like we had rushed the maid, but she said that all she had left to do was vacuum. Neutral... + many people may complain about have a REAL (i.e. old-fashioned key), but that's part of the charm to the area in my opinion + I laugh because one person referred to the rooms as being "straight of an Ikea catalog"... so true, but I dig the modern look as long as it's not the main theme in my house. Simplicity helped me relax more, believe it or not. Now onto the good... + I found the cheapest rate online directly through their website for room 6 for $113.38 (taxes and fees included). It's a king room with bunk beds, a private bathroom, dining table with four chairs, small fridge, a flatscreen, Roman shades for privacy as there are a few windows, and an adjustable hot/cold air unit. + contactless check-in... A nice lady called me while I was driving into Solvang a few hours before our allotted check-in. For check-out by 11AM, I just left the door unlocked and the key on the dining table. + mostly clean facilities including the grounds + several good eateries and shopping within walking distance... for lunch, I recommend the Copenhagen Sausage Garden. We had a lovely stay in our clean, simple, delightful room at the Atterdag, and happy to have easy access to our vehicle, parked right outside. Nice bedding and furniture, also enjoyed the Adirondack chairs in the sunny courtyard and the cable TV. Heater was responsive and effective, too! Location is also perfect, adjacent to everything yet not noisy in our opinion. It would have been nice to have a fan in the bathroom, or something noise cancelling, since walls seemed thin and our bathroom windows opened to the courtyard. The hotel office is four blocks away so you need to get in your car to do business. There are no phones in the rooms so you need to call the office from your cell phone. We got back to the room looking forward to watching TV. To watch tv you need two remotes and we were only given one. No one is answering the office phone and I am already in bed and I don't want to walk down the street to the office. For a $250 hotel room I expect a more reasonable experience. We've visited Solvang often and stayed lots of places, this is by far the worst. I felt in my gut that I should look elsewhere, and I wish I had listened to my intuition. We did not enjoy our stay at all, this place is very run down and dingy compared to the pictures. There is no front desk on site, which is fine, but if that's the case, please know that proper communication is vital. When we walked in the room we immediately put our items on the table because honestly the furniture looked sketchy, in doing so we didn't see the paper with all the information about getting our room cleaned, emergency numbers and parking info, we had to call or text about those things. When we walked into our room we were greeted with an overwhelming smell of pine sol, there are lots of windows with curtains or blinds that don't fully cover the windows, the bathroom had a quarter of a roll of toilet paper, the toilet seat was pretty much broken and the bed was made up with all flat sheets with random red dots. No fitted sheets on the mattress, just flat sheets under the mattress, over the mattress and even on top of the comforter...why?????? Now I will say that when we called them about the toilet paper and toilet seat, they did take care of those things quickly, however, why would your housekeeping consider that as presentable and ready and you're suggesting that we tip them?? NO We scheduled a 2 night stay with a wine tour on the second day, when we returned from the tour our room wasn't clean. We called and asked why, and they told us we were supposed to put some sign outside the door to let housekeeping know we want them to clean, what are we paying for ?? For the price we paid, we could've gone somewhere much nicer and cleaner and actually enjoyed our stay. We did not enjoy our stay but were actually glad we booked a tour, so we wouldn't have to be in that room for the majority of the day. We could not wait to get out of there, definitely won't be back to the Atterdag again. read more

Lovely overnight stay at Atterdag Inn in Solvang. It's a small boutique inn managed by Hamlet Inn. They have signs posted that the office/reception is at Hamlet Inn, it was a short 5-minute walk so it wasn't so bad. I just wished that they informed us ahead of time that the reception was located in a different area. There is ample free parking at the back -- 6 slots and there are free parking lots close by too. There are only a few rooms (less than 10, I think) that surround the courtyard. Location was close to everything but away from the main road. The price per night was very reasonable for the size of the room and bathroom. There were also table and chairs, wine glasses and small fridge for use. Bed was comfortable and the AC worked well. My only complaints were the following: 1. Poor sound-proofing -- we could hear foot steps from the room above and the sound of the TV in the room beside us. 2. The toilet seat was sliding a little bit, they need to tighten the bolts and the flusher/plunger is a bit wonky too. Keys are a bit old school -- you get a real key that you can just leave in the room when you check-out. You also get a breakfast voucher for Olsen's Bakery across Hamlet in -- a choice of danish pastry and beverage that you can either dine in or get it to go. Overall, would stay here again.. just hope we don't get noisy neighbors upstairs or beside us. read more

This is a charming little Inn that is located in the heart of Solvang. Situated at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac, it is the perfect location for a day of sightseeing and wine tasting in Solvang and the local areas. Plentiful parking both at the Inn and an adjacent Public parking lot. The rooms were tastefully furnished and provided a calm, quiet haven. Adjoining rooms were great for traveling with family members and each room had separate bath and kitchenette. Contactless check-in is provided and everything went seamlessly. Hotel management provided superior customer service with immediate responses to text messages. In addition, there were 2-for-1wine tasting passports provided, which we took full advantage of at the nearby wine tasting rooms and enjoyed immensely. This was an unexpected, bonus and very much appreciated! Overall, the location and clean, spacious rooms made our trip to Solvang very enjoyable and comfortable. This little gem in the center of town has 8 rooms. Note that there is no "front desk" or lobby, but the hosts are very responsive via email ( and text once your arrival date is reached). We found a large, clean room with kitchenette, small table and 2 chairs for meals and an additional 2 chairs for lounging. King bed was quite comfortable. Bathroom was adequate. The only negative takeaway, and this might not matter to other people, is that rooms 1 and 2 are right at the sidewalk , so we weren't comfortable raising the shades. That said, there are 4 rooms upstairs and the location is great ! Free onsite parking which is definitely a plus. We would return and choose an upstairs room. read more

I normally don't leave negative reviews but this place has left me with no choice. First of all, this property is very old - something you can't tell from the pictures on their website. Secondly, as you enter the room you are hit with a very strong smell of cleaning chemicals. The windows don't open so you are stuck with that smell for your entire stay...sigh!! Next, this place has no reception counter on the premises. They email you the code to the lock for your room and that's how you enter the room. Which we thought was cool at first, but when we came into our room we found out that the bathroom didn't have any bath mats...sigh... so the first thing we had to do was to send a text message to whoever the manager was and let her know that the bathroom didn't have any bathmats. Half an hour later someone brought us the bathmats. Furthermore, the bathroom (which was tiny) had a bad stench that we couldn't stand. It appeared to us that the smell came from the water tap of the bathroom sink. It was so strong that we felt that the water was contaminated. So to be safe, we decided to buy water from the store just to wash our hands and brush our teeth. We couldn't risk using the contaminated water - something we've never had to do at any hotels in all our 30+ years of travel in the U.S. Due to the terrible stench in the bathroom, and due to the fear of contaminated water, we decided not to shower at night. Instead we decided to cut short our trip and head home first thing in the morning and shower after reaching home. I am not a very picky traveler, but I travel frequently and I expect clean rooms with no odor or smell and clean bathroom with water quality that I can trust. This place didn't meet any of the basic requirements. Granted, at the end of the day they apologized for the inconveniences and offered 50% off our bill. But we were there only for one night and we had the most terrible experience ever - something no amount of refunding can make up for. Again, I can not stress enough to say that please stay away from this place and do not fall for the pictures you see on their website. Clean, bright, modern and comfortable rooms, with easy check-in/out. 3 hours after checking out and driving to our next destination, my 4-year old daughter told us that she'd 'hidden' all her stuffed toys, along with her coveted Paw Patrol blanket, in the closet right before we left, and was devastated that they got left behind. Our first time in Solvang, and this cute little place did not disappoint. We had the room with 2 queen beds so we were on the second floor with vaulted ceilings. It made the room seem so big and a little more homey. We also had a mini fridge and a microwave. We had a big dining table, which was perfect for our daughter to sit and do her coloring and games on. She personally loved our hotel room lol. I like that it's just tucked back enough from the main road, but still could walk to the town square park in 5 minutes. Everything was so easy to get to. They also included a 2 for 1 wine tasting voucher to local wineries throughout the area. I saw some complaints on here about the noise, but we honestly had no problem. The only downside I would say is that there are 8 rooms and only 7 parking spots, but we were there early enough to get one. This also may not seem like much, but since we were there during December, they had a wreath on all the doors! I thought that was a nice touch. Each room also had a little doormat at the entrance. On my way to LA I thought it would be fun to stay in Solvang. I found the Atterdag Inn online and made a reservation at 8:45pm. The desk leaves at 9 so be there before then! I was able to park right next to my room. It was minimal in its furnishings a la Denmark. I really liked the place. It was quiet and rather spacious. I didn't ever see the front desk staff. They just told me which room and the door code. Parked right next to the door. I have one big complaint though.....IT'S PRONOUNCED LIKE "OTTER-DOG". None of the Scandinavian languages have the harsh American a vowel sound. Nice stay!!! read more

The location of this hotel was great,easy access for all the things solvang has to offer. The rooms itself are not great especially for the overpriced fee. rooms need updating and upkeep in general. door looked like it had blood splatter and the molding in the bathroom are worn down and look like they are stating to build mold on them. No front office, you need to go to another hotel about two blocks away to check in and get the key. below are some pictures on the current status of ROOM #5. The programming on the TV is garbage and not much to see on tv once solvang shuts down which is about 6pm. Dont think I would stay here again or at the sister hotel. read more

Same owners as the Hamlet Inn. Check in at the Hamlet which is just a short walk around the corner. The building itself is pretty old so you'll hear everything outside and you'll feel every step taken and every door close. I suggest ear plugs. The rooms are LARGE and very spacious with clean walls and huge windows. Problem is that the windows aren't covered properly so if you like sleeping in, bring a blindfold or something. The bathrooms are SMALLLLLLLL. This property was not built to be a hotel. It appears to have been a general office use building turned into a hotel, so if you feel like you're in a doctor's office while sitting in bed, that's probably why. The rooms aren't decorated very well and there are exposed wires everywhere. Shelving wasn't put in properly or with much attention so it sags and tilts. You are pretty much sleeping in an IKEA catalogue. But the beds and sheets and pillows are fantastic and it seems they are of pretty decent quality so I'm assuming that's where most of the money went when budgeting for this place. Paint job in the room and bathroom is pretty poor. Basically, the smaller details haven't really been given any attention and the larger, easier aspects have been tended to. I think over time, if this place grows in business, they can afford to take care of these finish touches because the place has a lot of potential....it just kind of looks like a Swedish dorm room right now. The times we've been to Solvang we usually stay at Hotel Corque or at Hadsten House but since it was a last minute trip those hotels were sold out so this was our next option and I'm so glad it was. The location of this hotel is Everything!!! We were in room 1 and it was so amazing that the hub of town was right outside our door; the shops and restaurant were steps away which I loved! I will definitely stay here again. Unfortunately can't recommend, and very disappointed that Yelp reviews were so misleading. The deferred maintenance appears to be more than just a covid-shutdown issue. I'll just list the uncomfortable aspects of our room and hope they will be able to spruce this otherwise cute little inn up to inhabitable standards: 1. Ants appeared within 45 minutes of being in the room. 2. Mold on the shower curtain. 3. Considerable dry rot in the bathroom. 4. Red splatter stains all over the bathroom door (blood or rust? don't want to know!) 5. Bed and pillows, hard, lumpy, uncomfortable. 6. Strong smell of cigarette smoke. 7. No instructions for parking, we parked in public parking and hauled our suitcases up a block before realizing that there were a couple of closer guest spots. read more

I cannot say enough good things about this place! One bad thing? The outside of the windows could stand to be cleaned but that affected zero things to our stay. The check-in process was "unique". We had to go to the Hamlet Inn in order to check-in and get our keys... And I mean they're not the plastic key cards like of the modern day, they're legit metal keys. It made me nervous bc w/ the plastic keys, if you lose them, you get it replaced at no add'l charge... These keys, there was a charge that I am blocking out of my head bc I didn't want to lose them! We pull up the the parking, can't say lot bc there were only a few spaces. Spaces are tight, small and if you're not the best at parking, you might have a difficult time parking here. Some of the spaces were at a weird angle and just looked like theirs be challenging for some. My gf and I grab our stuff and walked over to where the signs that named our hotel. We were a little nervous bc the exterior (not to mention the back of the hotel) looked a little... Like in dire need of being updated. Considering it's a small town and that always being a shot in the dark, it was exciting to see what we saw when we walked towards our room. MFing cutest place I've ever stayed. read more
