My husband and I just came back from a week long stay in Solvang. We stayed in a King room (Room 202) at the King Frederik Inn. We absolutely loved our stay here. Except for the loud people by the pool blaring Mexican music and laughing and talking at the top of their lungs on our first day here (husband needed a nap after a three hour drive from LA), our stay was perfect. The room was comfortable, had good air conditioning and heating, windows that opened to let in fresh air, a bathroom with a tub and shower (though the tub was kind of small, my hips were a bit squashed) and toilet with a window (important for ventilating after bath and stinky toilet goes), and it had a separate area with a sink and mirror to wash our face and put on makeup. We also had a coffee maker, microwave, and refrigerator, which we made good use of. The hair dryer was not working, but that was okay because I let my hair dry naturally after trying the dryer and finding it defective. We didn't use the iron, but our room had one of those too. It had a mirrored closet with hooks (no bathrobes) where we hung our nice shirts, dresses, and jackets. Our bed was large and comfortable. There was a tv, desk where my husband could use his computer and write (we also ate dinner on the desk), two comfortable chairs (one for each of us), board games in the office (we played Scrabble one night), and night stands for each of us with an area for our shoes and a pull out drawer. There was also a big and clean three roomed drawer for us to put our clothes in. The maids came in and made the bed and changed the towels every morning. The carpet was clean too, but we wore indoor shoes just in case. We loved the heated pool and jacuzzi. We had it to ourselves when a mother and her son left. There were also plenty of clean towels by the pool with tables and chairs, lounge chairs. It was a bit windy the day we used the pool, but I liked that it was warm. My husband felt that it was too cold and that we waited too long in the day to use the pool (it was late in the afternoon). The office had pastries from Olsen's Bakery, coffee (plus decaf), hot water with tea and hot chocolate, apple and orange juice, milk in cartons (milk alternatives too), apple sauce, granola bars, and oatmeal in packages with hot water. Oh, and there was ice water too with cups for hot and cold liquid. The Inn is in a central location, withing walking distance of everything and although Solvang is a small town, this Inn was right smack in the center of everything. Loved the location. Parking was ample and great. We drove away and came back to our same spot twice. Karen was the one who booked our stay on the phone and was wonderful. We love Karen. We loved our stay and will come back again to the King Frederik Inn. read more

I booked this hotel last minute for a one night Solvang getaway for my young son and I. It's located right in the middle of town so it is super convenient to walk to any of the surrounding restaurants/shops. I didn't have an issue parking, there were plenty of spots when I arrived available for guests. Check-in was quick and easy, the employee lady that assisted me was very nice. They offer coffee, tea, and a few snack items in the lobby including pastries from a neighboring bakery. Yipee! :) The room itself was simple and clean. It was definitely good for the price IMO. The service here is very good. They have a heated pool and hot tub, which is nice. The room wasn't as clean as I would have thought, but its proximity to so many things to do is amazing. I was saddened by the fact that the shower head was made for shorter folks and the soap dispensers were mounted so that it was hard to close the curtain, making the floor get wet with every shower, and there were not many places to hang clothes nor any raised surfaces near the toilet, but for the value it was a great experience and we would likely stay again. Also. In terms of value, they had quite a lot of tv channels to choose from, and again a great location to explore Solvang. read more

Check-in was a breeze. The person working was kind and quick - he explained the property and surrounding area. There is plenty of parking on the property, which truly is located right in the middle of Solvang. The rooms are spacious and very clean. The property is older, so there are scuffs visible and things show wear. They could definitely replace some of the things in the rooms. However, everything was visibly clean. They offer morning "snacks" which was great for a quick breakfast. I believe the hours are 7-9am. This includes coffee, tea, hot chocolate, pastries, yogurt, oatmeal, applesauce, etc. They even offer a few dairy-free milk alternatives which was much appreciated for my coffee. Location is the biggest sell here. Truly in the center of town. So many restaurants, coffee shops, bakeries, and stores within a few blocks. read more

3.5 stars, but I can't justify rounding up to 4 stars. It's an older hotel, but they are attempting to keep it up. The rooms are a bit dated, but pretty clean, but not soundproof at all. (I had screaming children in the room next door.) It's definitely conveniently located for walking in the central Solvang area. No onsite restaurant, but they have a continental breakfast offered in the lobby...highly recommend the danishes! Most of the rooms are located overlooking a courtyard with a pool. I was glad we were on the 2nd floor. I'm not sure I would have felt secure in a ground floor room. Plenty of parking for hotel guests. They did do one of my hotel pet peeves. We asked if we could have a late checkout (noon instead of 11 AM) and they said they couldn't tell us until the morning of our checkout. The whole point of a late checkout is to sleep in. If you're crowded, just say no. I can understand that! I will certainly give the hotel another try...especially if the price is quite a bit better than some of the other nearby hotels. read more

Loved the location of this place. Right in the center of town so easy to come and go as needed. Pretty clean room, on the smaller side but we were rarely in the room. I loved that we got a balcony overlooking the heated pool and hot tub. Breakfast is basic with baked goods and coffee. Only downside was needing to ask for additional towel as they only provided 3 when our reservation was for 4 people. Pricing was good based on others in the area. read more

Stayed here for 2 nights. The location is great but it's such a small town anywhere you stay in town is walking distance. I chose this place because it had good reviews and close to all but I would not stay here again. If you are ok with old motel feel this place is for you. Honest review here the place is very dated and it shows. Good service here no complaints, we asked for room change because the king upstairs was dark no windows and was given a double bed room with deck. It was clean, mattress was ok. Fridge and microwave was nice to have. We enjoyed soaking in the hot tub after lots of walking and it was clean. Next time I would stay at a nicer place perhaps the Landsby. That place was very inviting with fire pits burning outside and so close (later I noticed this place had a fire table but they didn't have it on so I didn't see it). One last thing there was a trash can that wasn't emptied under our bathroom sink with a dirty diaper and the housekeeping didn't apologies. Other than that it was an ok stay especially since we didn't spend much time there. Hope this helps. read more

Spent the lovely weekend here in Solvang with my husband. He found this hotel and it was perfect. It's in walking distance to many restaurants and shops. They do have a continental breakfast in the morning. They also have a hot tub and a pool. Our room was a nice size with a microwave and a refrigerator. The bed was comfortable and the mattress was firm.The pillows were okay. An added plus is they also have full size shower/ bath liquid soap, shampoo, and lotion. The room layout and windows were kinda awkward but the bathrooms had been redone, the place was clean, and really how much time are you going to spend in the room?! We decided to book a last minute getaway. When we arrived, the man at the front desk was so wonderful. He was professional and informative. It was nice to be greeted by him after a long drive. We got a regular room with two double beds and it was just what we needed. It was clean and the location was great! We will definitely be returning because it was such a great value and overall the vibes were very relaxing. Nothing super fancy, but totally what we needed. Could not have asked for a better place to stay. The front desk staff member, I believe his name was Eric was so nice and accommodating, from recommending a great place to eat to making sure we had everything g we needed. This hotel is right in the middle of town so once we parked there was no need to use the car again. Everything was within walking distance. The room was larger than expected and clean. We used the pool which was heated and the jacuzzi which as nice and hot. Breakfast was simply with yummy Danish (which is why we were there right) and coffee, juices etc. I would definitely come here again. Thanks for a great stay. We had a great stay here late June with our toddler. The location of the hotel in relation to the rest of town is unbeatable! We could walk everywhere and several times one of us had to leave the other to take our little girl to the bathroom and going back to our room was super close by and easier than searching for a public bathroom. The room was clean, hardwood and tile which is always better than carpet. The mini fridge was a very generous size for a hotel fridge and we were able to fit all our baby's food and leftovers etc. The microwave was a great help as well. The size of the room wasn't huge, but not tiny. Still big enough for our luggage and stroller to not be a trip hazard. The included breakfast was just what we needed, nothing fancy, just some coffee, juice, muffins, oatmeal pouches, yogurt and apple sauce. This is a traditional hotel breakfast, so please don't expect organic or keto anything. I think the only thing they could add would be some fresh apples, oranges and bananas. The lobby had an excellent selection of drinks to buy and other travel needs that may have been forgotten. They also had a bunch of board games you could borrow, which is really nice to see! Our room was a bit noisy in the morning/evening bc we were in the corner room next to the room, but it wasn't horrible. Only the ground floor rooms have bathtubs, which we specifically requested because we were traveling with our toddler. I suspect if we had taken a room upstairs there would have been less noise. Parking was included and about 20ft from our room. We didn't move the car our whole stay. One of the best perks is that the tap water is filtered and you can fill your water bottle at the sink in your room which saves you money on bottled water. This small thing was huge to us and we really appreciated it. We hope to return to this spot again, and definitely again midweek as we were able to book 2 nights (Tues and Wed) for almost what it would have cost if we just booked Saturday night. read more

We did a last-minute, overnight trip to Solvang last weekend. I chose this hotel based on the location, and I love charming, historic hotels vs. corporate chains. We paid $290 total for a downstairs king room (with a veteran discount) which wasn't cheap, but maybe nothing is cheap these days? Pros: - Location! Immediately next door to the park, and walking distance to everything. You're right in the heart of Solvang. We took 10-minute Uber rides to Los Olivos. - Clean, spacious, well-renovated room, with a comfy bed Biggest mini-fridge I've ever seen in a hotel - Front desk staff was super nice. - Free breakfast (just pastries from Olsen's, coffee and juice) in the morning. Not a lot, but FREE! - Free parking lot! - Pool and hot tub Cons: - The room had a layout so that the sink/closet, immediately to the right of the front door, opened directly into the bedroom without any separation. So there was ALWAYS light from the parking lot or the sunrise beaming directly into the whole room, without any curtain, blinds, etc. You could also hear anyone using the sink area, since it was pretty much right there in the same room. Even a curtain separating the sleeping area from the sink, or a door, would be nice. - This is a 1960 building, but I've never experienced more paper-thin walls. All night, I could hear someone coughing in the next room, people talking, a baby, and kids yelling. A card on the desk advises guests of noise and offers earplugs, but it was difficult to get any good sleep when you could hear actual conversations in the next rooms. read more

Nice place to stay for a short visit to Solvang. A friend and I stayed here and the front desk was nice enough to split the bill in half between the two of us. It's conveniently located, so you won't have to drive anywhere to see the town or get your meals. Check-out is at 11:00 in the morning, but they don't mind if you leave your car in their parking lot while you walk around. I would imagine the pool would be great during the summer or hotter months, but, being that our stay was at the very end of October, we didn't make use of it at all. The hotel was clean enough, but there *was* a bit of scum on the bathroom tiles and in the corners. I liked the complimentary toiletries; not really cheapie stuff! And the fact that there were plenty of towels was a plus. There was a small fridge and a microwave in the room, so keeping and reheating leftovers was very convenient. The complimentary breakfast consisted of juice, coffee, tea, instant oatmeal, and pastries from one of the local bakeries; nice addition if you're interested in having a bite to eat in the morning. The juice machine, coffee, and tea were out when we arrived for check-in, so maybe they're availabe 24/7, but I'm not sure... I didn't partake! Very enjoyable stay at the King Frederik! The person who checked us in was very friendly and lovely, the room was clean, they have a heated pool and hot tub that were open even in this off season. I had read reviews prior to staying about it being 'loud' - but if you keep the windows closed the noise really isn't that bad. Granted, we weren't trying to sleep until after 11 PM and were there during the week when most places shut down well before that, but still - they also had a noise machine in the room and offer earplugs at the front desk, so I feel like if you REALLY need absolute quiet those options will help a lot. The beds aren't super comfy but they're also not the worst. I liked that they have not just a sheet and thin covering but an additional comforter as well. The one thing that was a bit problematic for us was the light coming into the room at night (we had a room on the second floor overlooking the pool area), because the curtains on our main window didn't really cut it for the lights from said pool area and the smaller high windows in the sink and bathroom areas don't have any covering. In the end, the price we paid (and this was after comparing it to several other hotels within a half mile or so) was more than worth it. read more

Checked in with Mark and he was very friendly and welcoming. I asked for his recommendations and he provided me with a booklet for all the go-to spots. It was Labor Day Monday into Tuesday so it was probably not as busy as the weekend. Free parking. The rooms were affordable and very clean. The bed was very comfortable. Microwave and mini fridge included. What more do you need? Complimentary breakfast snacks before 10:00 AM. It was my daughters first time in a pool so this place is a core memory. I had one of the most memorable experiecnes at this Inn. It was easy check in process (at around 3PM) and we got a spacious room above the lobby that didn't have any neighboring guests. The only downside is the pool area that is located right in the center of this Inn which can be loud and noisy during the daytime but at 10PM, the pool is closed off and it is nice to enjoy and relax. Our room was quite spacious with a large tv and bathroom area. What's great is that they have safe water on tap so OK to drink! Separate toilet and shower stall area so it is quite private. In the morning there is complimentary pastries, oatmeal, fruit, juice, and coffee so you can get your day started right. I like this Inn location because it is right in the middle of Solvang and across many Danish bakeries and shops. There's also plenty of parking so that's also a plus! The lobby also has complimentary board games for guests to use and they also give out free ear plugs for when you go swimming. They also have a discount card and scavenger hunt for kids so that's also a plus! Will definitely stay here next time I visit Solvang. read more

Great location. Lots of free parking. This hotel checked all the boxes for an overnighter. We walked everywhere. Restaurants, shops and bakeries were all steps away. 10 minute drive to Chumash Casino and Ostrichland (where you can feed the ostrich & emus!) Pool and jacuzzi closes at 9pm. Danish pastries and individually packed oatmeal for breakfast. Towels were surprisingly fluffy. Microwave, coffeemaker & fridge inside the room. Obviously an old establishment and needs a refresh but with the $ we paid and its location, we were satisfied. It's a 2-story building - no elevator. Nothing fancy. Solvang is so charming! I wanted to love this hotel, I really did. There were so many positives starting with the friendly staff. We actually worked with several different workers who were friendly, that was great. The location was perfect, right in the mix. The pool was a little small but still really fun for me and my family. The price was reasonable, nice! The room was dated but seemed clean for the most part. The cons are being on the first floor you can hear people walking or stomping above you. There was some noise at night since we were close to everything, but it wasn't that bad. Here's my dealbreaker-there was a large cockroach (Japanese beetle-call it what you will) in our room that I discovered at 2:00 am when I got up to use the bathroom. Yikes!! It was on it's back but twitching. Needless to say I wasn't able to sleep much after that. The lady we spoke with was very surprised and mentioned they spray their property so that's unusual. Although I was hoping to make this a regular stop, I think we have to keep looking. read more

Also they have complimentary continental breakfast which is nice. You can get a yogurt or apple sauce or fruit cup and you get fresh danishes and muffins from olesons bakery and oatmeal and coffee tea and apple or orange juice. Even though it's in the middle of everything the hotel was quiet and safe. We stayed on the first level and did hear people walking but wasn't too bad. Next time we will definitely request the 2nd floor. Parking was free and we didn't struggle finding parking. This is my go-to place when I am in Solvang! A cute little property, centrally located, and with nice rooms and a decent rate. The property is very clean, and features and pool and spa - currently you need to reserve times for these due to COVID, but worth it. There is also a continental breakfast with local pastries, juices, coffee and tea and oatmeal - the pastries through are wrapped in a cellophane (like a Saran Wrap) but were a little dry to me. The front staff was very friendly and helpful with all matters, although the service staff was a bit offish - oh well, I smiled and said "hello" each time anyway. I had a corner room in the detached building, and my room was next to the main drag, but was not too noisy. The people upstairs and the guy next door? Can't say the same thing! Ahh, life in community . . . The bed was great, the pillows great and these rooms have been recently redone with beautiful hardwood flooring (which I prefer for cleanliness) and nice décor. The vanity was a bit small, so I appropriated some space on top of the mini-fridge for the overflow! A microwave rounded out all I needed - never used the TV. Overall, a great time and very comfortable stay. Give them a peep if you are looking for a good place to stay in central Solvang. But maybe get a second floor room . . . read more
