I failed to take pictures but I was happy with our stay. We did the king suite for the extra space. The room was clean and pretty spacious. I loved the bed, it was very wide which makes me wonder if it was a European king? Either way, very comfy. The hotel is walking distance to everything in town and the 2 for 1 wine tasting card to local tasting rooms and wineries was very much appreciated. Highly recommend it planning a visit. read more

It was a perfect stay! Staff was very attentive. It was great location at the end/center of Solvang. I would suggest a sofa and side tables than a table and chairs due to it only being a very small space and having no comfy space to hangout other than sitting on the bed. Owners shut off the water several times during our stay without letting guests know. Day 1 I was in the shower when the water was shut off. I stepped out of the shower to get my phone and the office was closed. I had to use bottled water to get the soap off of my body. They only have 12 rooms. They could have texted us ahead of time. This happened 3 additional times the next day. Staff randomly leave with a note on the office door saying they will be back in 30 minutes or an hour with no other information. Terrible customer service. Ice machine had no ice. read more

Super cute and clean hotel that is extremely walkable to the downtown area of Salang. Mini fridge and microwave within the room, comfortable bed and a cute little seating area. They also offer bikes that you can ride around town if you so desire. We did not make use of those as we were happy to walk. Super easy self check-in. My only negative would be that I stayed in room number two, which is closest to Mission Drive, which is the main road thus there is traffic noise. I'm a light sleeper so it was a little distracting, but would probably not bother most. read more

Worst place in town, bathroom has black mold. I sent an informed review to the owners (giving them the benefit of the doubt) in which they said they responded, but actually never did. Shows you the effort and why the property is the way it is! They gave me nothing but excuses - like 'we leave a 24/hr phone number for that' but Infact their 24/hr phone number says for emergencies only. So if it's not an emergency I guess you're SOL. The place is crazy noisy in the middle of the night with paper thin walls so forget about getting quality sleep on your vacay! I got there and had a wrong key code. Says they close at 9pm, thank god I arrived at 8:30 or there would have been nobody at the front and me sleeping in my car! For the black mold, the response was they are addressing the bathrooms one by one, so I guess black mold will have to wait LOL My favorite was 'well you already posted a public review so there is not much else we can do for you' so many other things but I'm done. Save yourself and go to The Landsby!!! I have to say after reading the reply of the owners on here, they have modified their response twice and their email to me was farthest from the truth of what they say below. Shady owners, proves my point even more. What a nightmare- keep your vacay classy and stay away from this place! read more

We had been wanting to visit Solvang for some time and research led us to selecting the Viking Inn to stay. We spent three nights here in a double queen room. They offer keyless entry and sent a text with entry information on checking day. The room was clean and comfortable. It's one of the first places to stay as you arrive in Solvang and everything is a short walk away. We borrowed bikes they offer just to go out and explore a little further out. Cute little motel. It was a nice touch having a welcome letter in the room from the owners with in town recommendations and a text message checkin with door code. The room is walkable to town. Would have loved to sit at the firepit at night but got back to the room too late. There is an iron, microwave, small fridge with very small freezer section, blow dryer and electric kettle for instant coffee or tea. Would have loved to have actual mugs as the paper cups were too thin it burned your hands. We also had to set the kettle on the ground in order to plug it into a plug. Shower was very nice but needed a bit more water pressure. Loved the blackout curtains, could have slept in all morning! No sleep option on the TV but it had a lot of channel options. There were also cute little bikes we could have borrowed. Overall, super cute hotel I would love to come back to. read more

Cute little place right off main drag, so within walking distance to shops and bakeries, eateries. It can get tricky exiting the parking lot as the streets do get busy with vehicle traffic. The room is quaint and simple. Bed was comfortable. The A/C unit was extremely loud so if the TV is on, it needed to be loud as well. The location was awesome. It is technically on the edge / start of the main street but walkable to pretty much everything. It definitely is a bit older / dated motel so please keep that in mind. A little musky smelling but not horribly bad - it's that it's an older building. Although walking location wise is great, location wise in terms of safety can't leave windows open during day / night (it's one story so I personally would not) Otherwise, I would def stay here again as I did for a rest stop. read more

Great place at a great price. My family and I stayed here a few nights just before Christmas. We noticed that it was being renovated, so I took that into account when I reserved a room, but the price was right and my expectations were overall exceeded. This place is on one end of the main road, and everything was conveniently within walking distance. It was right next to a burger/ taco/ shake place that was convenient (though I'm not sure I'd recommend it) and across the street from a convenience store. Parking is motel- style and makes getting to the room convenient. The room itself was clean, if a little spartan. The only things really missing were dressers, enough towel racks, and a safe. We weren't staying that long, so pulling out the suitcases was no big deal. The only concerns we had were the flooring that was splitting in the corners (maybe termite damage?) and the shower water randomly going from pleasantly hot to painfully scalding without warning, which I mentioned at check-out. Overall though, it was a nice place and a bit more inexpensive than competing hotels in Solvang, especially around the holidays. I'd love to see it again once it's been fully renovated. read more

My husband and I saw this place on a renovation show on HG tv. So we thought we would stay here after we saw how cute the honeymoon suite room looked. We it's small and kinda cute. But downsides are no closet, no shelves or storage places in bedroom or bathroom. Road noise all night very close to the road. A light was shining in through a blind that didn't quite block it. Shower curtain fell down when I was going to shower. Luckily my hubby fixed it. Court yard area was cute but needs more umbrellas cause it was hot here this weekend. Tried the fan in the window, but I don't think the filter has been changed in a while - window facing Main Street without secure lock - shampoo with 3/4 already gone (they don't change mini-bottles in between guests?) - cheap towels and sheets (both are course and beady) - instant coffee? Great rates for what you get! Spotless room and sooo conveniently located. Pet-friendly, quiet space, comfy beds, safe area, great parking. Loved the combo-keyless entry that is emailed in advance. Walk to literally everything in the quaint town of Solvang. Great bonus: free coffee/tea and danish from Olsen's bakery, a tried and true favorite that always has a long line. I was super surprised to see a 3.7 rating, but when I read low reviews most stated that, whatever displeased them, should not occur at "this price point." To anyone unfamiliar with the entire Santa Ynez Valley---the Viking Inn is an absolute steal for everything I listed above--I have stayed in Solvang many times at some of the cottages, bigger hotels and even hotels out by the freeway. Not kidding, for the price point, this has been the most bang we've ever gotten for our bucks. This whole areas is expensive. I will definitely make The Viking Inn my go-to stay for Solvang in future visits. read more

The family and I spent last night at the Viking Motel and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. Driving up to it, it doesn't look like much. It doesn't have all the kitschy trappings that many of the other places in Solvang have. The Viking Motel is perfectly located at the beginning or the end is downtown Solvang depending on which direction you're coming from. You walk out of you motel room, make a right, and there before you is Solvang in all its tourist trapping glory. Restaurants, shops, etc., are all within walking distance. To say the Viking Motel is "vintage" is an understatement. The furniture is a hodgepodge of different styles. The dresser in our room looked like it had been sitting outside for a while and had gotten wet. As thought it was found on the side of the road and given a new life at the motel. The bed was surprisingly very comfortable. If you're looking to be cradled in the bosom of Egyptian cotton, then this place isn't for you. The exterior is a bit dated as well and could use some paint. There is a table and a few chairs in the courtyard in case you want have a smoke or enjoy a glass of wine. If you're looking for a place to just rest your head and relax after a long day of wine tasting, the Viking Motel is really the best deal in town. You can't beat the price and location. read more

Stayed on Solvang to watch a SpaceX launch in Lompoc. We've never stayed here before and weren't sure. Well...we are glad we did!! Literally can't think of one negative. We had to delay our stayed one day because the launch got delayed and both times we called Angie and another woman were so nice. No questions asked or issues they moved our reservations. Our room was clean, smaller good, well stocked, TV worked great, and contactless check in was awesome! Narrowed a bike to grab lunch and super easy and no big deal. We chatted with Angie for a minute and she was very nice. The renovations look great! Most importantly wheelchair access. We stayed in room 5 so I can only speak for that specific room. Our daughter uses a power wheelchair. They are a larger than a manual and our room was perfect. Low threshold room to turn and watch TV or eat at the table. Shower had a low transition as well so transferring is totally doable. Would we stay here again? Defiantly!! Even thinking of telling the entire family to have a weekend and get multiple rooms. Only thing I recommend is some social games in the courtyard area. Large jenga or corn hole or something. If not still coming back!! read more

What a charming motel. The owners have renovated it and it's cleverly designed with appealing aesthetics. Yes, it's minimalist but lovely and soothing. Such a fantastic value and location, and for just a bit more money you can bring your small dog (I did not on this stay but may choose to in the future). I did enjoy meeting a few of the other guests' dogs, all were quiet and well-behaved. The furniture in the room is minimal but adequate with a folding luggage rack and handy shelving throughout. The room had a mini fridge with a freezer section that actually kept my ice packs frozen. The fire pit in the courtyard is a nice touch. This is one of the cleanest hotel rooms if not the cleanest I've ever seen. Highly recommended. read more

I was nicely surprised by this motel. Everything was fresh and newly renovated. The room was bright, fresh and clean. The only thing I would recommend to the new owners is to add extractor fans in the bathrooms. An extractor will help keep the bathroom decor fresh and mould free for years to come. After the shower it was all steamed up which isn't a big deal for me but a lot of money has been spent here so an extractor will keep that investments longevity we really enjoyed staying here. I love this little charming motel. Located at the entrance of Solvang one can walk to everything. Regardless of the fact its at the edge of town. I'm disabled and was able to walk to and from without issues. The most hospitiable staff. Attentive, kind, happy people run this vintage motel. Could it use a coat of paint...yes. However on of the best nights sleep I've ever had on a hotel bed. Dual paned windows keep the room completely quiet when closed. But as with all motels on the main street, it can be loud when windows are open. Pet friendly, great price with a light breakfast included. Highly recommend read more

Don't let the word motel fool you. To be honest, I was a little skeptical about staying here. However, upon arriving I absolutely fell in love and immediately wanted to extend my stay. I booked this place with little planning looking to break up my drive from LA to San Francisco on my partner and I's dog-friendly mini moon. The keypad made for an easy contact-less late check-in. The stand alone feature of the King Suite was a bonus given our later than anticipated check-in. If we had stayed longer, I would've wanted to take advantage of the bikes that looked like they were for rent, but for a one-day Solvang trip, the room was in an ideal location. Since we arrived late at night, we slept in. Walked across the street for a late breakfast only to check out and move my car literally around the corner. Location made it easy to enjoy a day walking through the heart of downtown from one end to the other, ending with a pit stop at Ostrichland USA and be on our merry way back home. read more

We're staying at the Viking Inn and it's been very nice. We've stayed here before so we can see a big difference, as they are making improvements. The exterior of the motel looks clean and updated, the courtyard is really nice with several seating areas, and a fire pit. There are bikes for use to ride around town, which is cool. Our room has been updated and has cute decor. Our bathroom has a really nice shower, and we're appreciating the AC during the day. At night, I open the windows because I love the cool evening air. Very clean & staff was really nice. The room I had (#9) has very comfortable beds and bedding, a refrigerator, cable tv. We just needed to sleep there real quick but I was actually very happy to get all that for the price. Bathroom is small and basic, but again very clean. Bring your own toothpaste and toothbrush. The location is perfect if you want to hang out in town. Everything is walking distance. We went to a nice specialty coffee shop (Good Seed), and Paula's Pancake house for breakfast, just a few steps away. I will definitely stay again when I am in the area. Thanks Viking Inn! read more

Freezing cold water in the shower in both rooms we booked. The handles for BOTH showers were broken so the water would come on but you couldn't set it to warm or hot as the valve was broken so the faucet would turn and turn and turn 360 degrees. I don't know if they are still in the process of doing upgrades but I have to think that since this situation was in both rooms, this has happened to many guests before us. The other issues with the bathroom which others mentioned in some other reviews, the little bottles of whatever in the bathroom weren't full and weren't even sealed. The shower tile was really outdated and ugly. Lastly, the switch on the blow dryer was broken so it had to be unplugged when not in use as there was no way to turn it off or change the setting from low to high. While the room was cute it had an ancient and noisy A/C unit. The closet space was mostly taken up with a small and noisy fridge, hot water pot, etc. and had almost no room to hang up clothing. Fortunately we weren't there to attend any events to I was able to get by without hanging anything up. Okay, a few pros. The room was very clean. The bed and bedding was very comfortable. While it's not in the middle of the tourist area of town, it's very walkable with several bakeries and restaurants within a block. However, with so many place to stay in Solvang, I will stay elsewhere next time. read more

With so many choices of where to stay, it is sometimes hard to find the right place. My wife and I have stayed in Solvang many times over the years. From other hotels on one side to Motels in the middle to The Viking Inn. We have now found our little gem. The location is great because you are on the beginning of the strip or end depending on which way you came into town. You can park your car and never have to drive again until you are ready to leave. Also, you are not in the middle of town with all the nightlife hustle and bustle from the restaurant bars, but you are only a block away to walk home. The other benefit is getting personal treatment from staff or the owner Angie. This isn't a place that just takes your booking money and off you go. The staff is courteous, friendly, welcoming, and informative. I feel like you get personalized service here. Guadalupe is the lady who does housekeeping and she is pays attention to the details and is super friendly and hard-working, so tip her when you stay. I would suggest you set real expectations of where you are at. You are not at a 5-star Ritz Carlton so don't expect the same. But if you are looking for a quiet, clean, maintained and cared-for place then stop looking because the Viking Inn Motel is the place. You get little extras as well, like the benefit of a firepit, a coffee pot in the room, you have a mini fridge. Just little perks that make the stay better in my opinion. All the love and details that have gone into the renovating of this place show the love that Angie and her husband have for this little place and their guests. I highly suggest you stay here if you are not looking for a place to not break the budget, and don't need the glamour of the Ritz but still want a safe, cared-for place to lay your head then the Viking Inn Motel is the place. We stayed at the Viking Inn last week. First impression was CUTE . It's walking distance to everything so you dont have to drive anywhere! We stayed in a queen bed bedroom and I believe it was still being renovated because there was spots of patchy paint around. There was no curtain on the bathroom window which I didn't like ,it didn't feel too private. Also there was dust on some surfaces in the bathroom. It's little details to look out for. My overall stay was great , check-in and check-out was easy and I liked that they text you with all the information needed before you check in. I will definitely stay here again and can't wait to see it when it's fully renovated. read more

Pros: - Location is amazing. It's right on the road/strip that most toursits want to be in Solvang for. - The remodeling is going great. The unit that we stayed in was clean and cozy. We saw them actively improving the place throughout the duration of our stay. - The owners are nice! The husband of the couple who owns the place went out of his way to ask and find what we were looking for. - Upon first entering the unit, we found a 2-for-1 wine tasting gift and some recommendations for local eateries/activities. Cons: - The remodeling was not complete by the time we stayed there in July of 2023. We could tell by the state of the bathroom of our unit. There were cracks and rust in the showers, and the toilet was one of the lowest pressure toilets I've ever experienced. We had a very pleasant stay overall! I'm excited to see how the place will be a few months/years from now once all the recnovations are complete! read more

I stayed at the Viking Inn in July 2024. The room was adorable, and very comfortable. I was really pleased at how clean it was. The location is perfect and the staff were very friendly. I had left some grapes in the refrigerator and the housekeeper ran up to the front office to bring to me as I was checking out. Very sweet of her. I hung out in the front lawn area while other guests were making s'mores in the fire pit. Very cozy. I will definitely be staying here again. read more

This is a no frills, place to stay in Solvang and perfect for a cozy place to stay. The price is great, service is great (Johnny is definitely a cool guy and very knowledgable of his hometown), and the location doesn't get any better. The room itself was VERY clean. Full stack of towels, clean sheets, extra pillows, even a great working fridge. TV was modern and worked great. The noise level was not bad at all. Bonus - you get a free pastry + coffee from the best bakery in town per person and it is right across the street. Thank you Johnny!
