I made the mistake of buying a no name brand, single speed road bike with mismatched fork for $200 dollars from this place. 2 days later I went and purchased a full carbon fiber Trek 5500 for $250 on FB marketplace. I went to take advantage of their 7 day return window and they tried charging me a rental fee, which I said I'd rather not pay $70 ($35/day). They kept the taxes I paid because they had "already paid them." (Not how that works!) and charged me a $20 rental fee. Take your business elsewhere read more

Really bad experience with this place. I was told they do tune up for 39 dollars. I thought it includes repairing and changing some of the parts of my bike. I even thought about giving them some tips after it is done. So I left my bike to them for the tune up. Guess what! When I came back for my bike, they charged me 45 dollars for tune up. And they say tune up is just the labor. So they also charged me 8 dollars for a brake and 12 dollars for parking crutch. What a trap!!! Don't go there. They will fool you around! read more

The hybrid I purchased for over $450 was not put together very well. The test ride was good, but the next day when I took it for a full bike ride was when I encountered more problems than I could imagine. The seat kept coming down, the transition in the gears were rugged and would get stuck and then all of a sudden drop leaving your feet struggling to find footing. There is also toe overlap which I know is common but with my Scott sportster that was never a problem for me. I returned this bike within 24hrs and was only charged for a one day rental which was fine. I did not feel comfortable with their bike or lack of expertise. Stick to Velo Pro or Bicycle Bobs. Been here multiple times, never had a problem with the regular people working there. Seems like a Hispanic family that is really nice, understanding and very knowledgeable. Well, last week I went in to rent an E bike for an hour. The nice lady said it was 65 for 24 hrs. I said well I just need it for an hour. She said we will deal with the coat when u get back. I thought probably $30 at the most. I got back after just under an hour and there was some REALLY old guy siting at the place working on some bike. The nice lady asked the old man about the cost and he barely looked up and mumbled $50. I said for an hour???! He said we don't have a rate and yes. I though what an ass! I told him I nor my 7 children or any of their friends or acquaintances are EVER going Vick to this shithole. That old guy is mean and he hasn't put an ounce of money into that business. Go to the other bike place in IV on Pardall. This place is crap. One star is the only thing available. They should allow a crap emoji below 1 star!!! read more

Kit, the owner, helped someone steal my bike. He is super shady and much of his business comes from stolen bikes(from what i hear is an open secret). He pretended like he was doing legitimate business but was trying to sell a stolen bike. I had the police intervene and my stuff was returned(i was nice and did not press charges). If their employees are out stealing bikes then i would guess that many of their bikes are stolen and they regularly sell stolen property and do not care. DO NOT GO THERE!!!!!!!!! If you buy a used bike there check if it is stolen first. Don't sell your bike here. Bought a used bike here 5 months ago for $350. I'm moving and needed to sell the bike back. Called and they said to bring it back with the receipt. Rode 15 miles from my house to sell it. Found out they were only willing to pay 25% of purchase price. They never mentioned that over the phone. Bought my first bike here freshman year (1998) and the staff built it and I was good to go until someone stole it which is fine because it wasn't a beach cruiser. I had my second bike (a cruiser) until the day I graduated... in 4 years not 5... and ended up leaving it for a friend. I never got over the whole cruiser phase and owned one that sort of looked like a cruiser in Kyoto while I was teaching English there for 2 years where'd I'd bike 15 minutes to a high school while biking through the little town of Fushimi and passing by several sake breweries. Then I lived in Denver and my friend Megan (also a Gaucho - who randomly lived in the same house as I did 6709 DP aka Pink Taco a year after - didn't know her at the time) and I cruised the streets of Denvy with travelers in tow. My bike was named Blue Steel and Megan's Hermosa for lovely in Spanish for those of you who are non-speakers. I'm back in Monterey and I couldn't help but purchase another cruiser... Champagne in color and so far it's name is Champy (Shampy) until I think of a better one. Anywho, both my sisters went to UCSB as well (class of '06 & '11) and I'm pretty sure they both purchased their cruisers there too. I highly recommend them! read more

3.5 stars (but I guess I can round up to 4). I feel like I'm being way too generous to a bike shop. There sure are a lot of beach cruisers in Isla Vista, but I like my mountain bike better. I've gone here a couple times to get air pumped into my tires when my dinky manual pump wasn't cutting it. I also got a damaged-beyond-repair (or so he said) bicycle wheel replaced once. It would have been cheaper for me to replace the bike...but maybe that's beside the point. Anyway, they are pretty speedy about fixing/tuning up your bike. You can bring it in earlier in the day, stroll by a few hours later after class and ride off into the sunset. read more

This is the coolest-looking bike shop in IV and has a great location, but I do not shop here. I've only been here two times and the service is ew. The people are just not friendly at all. They even make you feel awkward when you go to use their free (manual!) air pumps. You are much better off going to Varsity up the street, or to AS bikes. read more

I'm surprised at the negative comments about the service. We rented two bikes for five weeks and the people were extremely nice and helpful, helping us find the right bikes and changing the heights etc. They gave us helmets, u-locks, lights, repair kits and spare wheel tubes for no extra charge. They have a great selection of bikes. We got two really nice road bikes. Three weeks into the rental, I crashed the bike. The handlebars and front wheel were banged up. I was worried they wouldn't give me my deposit back ($180). The guy replaced the handlebars and fixed the wheel for $30, labor included. We just returned the bikes with no problems. Got our full deposits. Very easy-going staff. Would definitely recommend to friends, for rental and for buying. read more

Conveniently located on the corner of Pardall and Embarcadero Del Mar. I remember riding past this bike shop all the time as I rode to and from class at UCSB. I remember thinking they had the cutest beach cruisers out on display and here I was stuck with this multi colored, hand me down mountain bike. Boo! :( Anyhow, bike rentals are pretty decently priced. $15 dollars for the whole day and they will even throw in the lock and basket for free. :) My friends, hubby and I were able to rent some beach cruisers for the day and ride throughout campus, West Campus, Isla Vista and Goleta. It was lots of fun! :) Customer service is pretty good. We were helped immediately and were in and out of that place in a flash! read more

We took our daughter's bike here because the front wheel was out of true. We got there 30 minutes before closing and I thought it would be the next day before we could pick it up. They did the repair and installed a front basket we bought there. The prices were reasonable, service was great as well as fast. Highly recommend!! read more

The technicians working on the bikes are great, but the management is terrible. I went in to get a flat fixed and before I had driven home the tube had already popped with the bike just sitting in the back of my car. I took it back in the next day, and this time the bike lasted until the next morning, again not having ridden it. Understandably, I'm frustrated, and I called and spoke to Dave on the phone, trying to explain my story. He frankly denied that had happened and angrily yelled at me "if you're so unhappy then I'll refund your money and you can take it to Varsity bikes." I took the bike in one last time, talked with Dave and the technician who worked on my bike the last time, with Dave still doubting my story. They eventually determined that the whole batch of tubes they had been using was defective, and put a different type on my bike. I will not be returning if it goes flat again. I understand that sometimes things happen, but Dave was incredibly rude and didn't seem to even have a base level of respect you should for another person. I afforded Dave this level of respect, even bringing up (calmly) how I was upset by how he was treating me, but he continued to simply ignore anything I had to say. read more
