I really really wanted a bike. More specifically, I wanted an affordable yet sturdy bike that a short person like me could ride comfortably. We went to 5 different bike shops (two of them were the big megastores) and tested 6 different bikes but I didn't like any of them before I finally found my dream bike at Stape Cycle! This is a small local shop that really packs in the best of the best. The shop is small, but it has really beautiful, great quality bikes. The owner (Andrew, I think) was not pushy at all but was very professional and extremely informative. He was super patient with me even though I am a bicycling newbie, and made sure I test drove the bicycle and showed me how to check the bike for proper fit. He also showed me how to load my bike into the car, and gave me tips on how to ride safely. Now I ride my bike weekly and because I trust Andrew to have assembled the bike perfectly, I don't worry about my bike falling apart, and already know that I have an honest shop to take it to if I ever need repairs. I am actually excited to go back for my 1-2 month check-up in a couple of weeks because I'm going to snatch one of those beautiful baskets I saw in his shop! read more

I brought him a cargo e-bike that he had never seen, with a motor made by a company that is out of business, and a rear wheel set up that was messed up by another bike shop. He agreed to have a look and fixed everything up and had the bike running in like 45 minutes - complete with swapping out the rear brake caliper for a new one. He was quick, methodical, and super clever. At the end of it all, he charged me less than half of what I would have been happy to pay for his labor (I made sure to leave a tip). This little spot is great!! I wasn't even a customer. I had installed a new seat on my bike and the angle was wrong and I didn't have any tools with me to adjust it on my ride. It was so uncomfortable. I rode past this place and ran inside asking if I could borrow an Allan wrench to adjust the seat. The guy (I'm assuming owner) stopped repairing a bicycle and followed me outside and adjusted it for me. I couldn't believe how nice he was. Totally fixed it and it is now at a comfortable angle! As I thanked him on my way to leave he handed me a packet of tools and told me to try and always keep them with me in case I needed them. I was happy to pay something for the service and/or the tools, but he refused. He simply helped me to be nice. I love people like that!! A friend who is very knowledgeable about bikes recommended this shop. My husband had his squeaky brakes fixed there after taking it to two other places that did nothing. My gears were slipping and there was a rattle. I took my bike in at the end of the day thinking I'd ask about a time when it could be fixed. The proprietor was swamped with work and said to call the next week for a time the week after. When he could see I was disappointed, he said, "Let me take it for a spin." He disappeared around the block and when he was back, it was fixed. He then found the rattle was from the loose chain guard and tightened it. He took the time to fix everything even when he was swamped with work and it was near closing time--and he refused my attempts to pay him. No wonder his shop is so busy--he's a nice guy and he knows his stuff! read more
