Stape Cycles is the best! Ran by Andrew, a one man show! Nice little shop that has all your needs. Andrew got my Specialized Stumpjumper all dialed for Snow Summit. Needed brakes bled, gears/derailer adjusted, and bottom bracket/cranks tighten. Test rode my bike today and it's never been this good. Shifts and brakes perfect! BB is no longer loose. Andrew is straight shooter, he recommends what you need and skips the BS. Highly recommend taking your bike here. read more

Andrew was so quick to help get an old bike up to speed, new tube, clean and greased the chain, adjusted the gears, handlebar... all same day, no "booked out 2 weeks" or "leave it and we'll get to it when we can" that I got at every other shop. Fast, efficient and reasonable, and his shop is very cool. read more

Awesome bike shop. Andrew does top notch work as he's passionate about what he does. My experience couldn't have been better. He installed my Swytch electric conversion kit on the Linus I bought from him. That was the perfect setup and his installation was super clean. He's now replacing my forks on my mountain bike as well. The Linus is crazy fast with the Swytch Pro-pack installed! read more

I really really wanted a bike. More specifically, I wanted an affordable yet sturdy bike that a short person like me could ride comfortably. We went to 5 different bike shops (two of them were the big megastores) and tested 6 different bikes but I didn't like any of them before I finally found my dream bike at Stape Cycle! This is a small local shop that really packs in the best of the best. The shop is small, but it has really beautiful, great quality bikes. The owner (Andrew, I think) was not pushy at all but was very professional and extremely informative. He was super patient with me even though I am a bicycling newbie, and made sure I test drove the bicycle and showed me how to check the bike for proper fit. He also showed me how to load my bike into the car, and gave me tips on how to ride safely. Now I ride my bike weekly and because I trust Andrew to have assembled the bike perfectly, I don't worry about my bike falling apart, and already know that I have an honest shop to take it to if I ever need repairs. I am actually excited to go back for my 1-2 month check-up in a couple of weeks because I'm going to snatch one of those beautiful baskets I saw in his shop! read more

Responsive, skilled, swift -- very happy with how he buffed up my old but trusty 2-wheeled jalopy

This man is a freaking bike wizard! I brought him a cargo e-bike that he had never seen, with a motor made by a company that is out of business, and a rear wheel set up that was messed up by another bike shop. He agreed to have a look and fixed everything up and had the bike running in like 45 minutes - complete with swapping out the rear brake caliper for a new one. He was quick, methodical, and super clever. At the end of it all, he charged me less than half of what I would have been happy to pay for his labor (I made sure to leave a tip). A true bike mechanic in the full sense of the word. read more

If you are in the market for a new bike, go to see Andrew! He is incredibly knowledgeable and has access to so many brands from all price ranges. He doesn't just repair bikes of all kinds, he can find you the perfect bike as well. He is so friendly to deal with and helpful with any questions. He ordered the gravel bike, put it together, called us when it was done, we drove up from Valencia and you can tell he loves what he does because he was just as excited to give us the bike as we were to get it! He is a stand up guy. We wouldn't go anywhere else!! read more

This little spot is great!! I wasn't even a customer. I had installed a new seat on my bike and the angle was wrong and I didn't have any tools with me to adjust it on my ride. It was so uncomfortable. I rode past this place and ran inside asking if I could borrow an Allan wrench to adjust the seat. The guy (I'm assuming owner) stopped repairing a bicycle and followed me outside and adjusted it for me. I couldn't believe how nice he was. Totally fixed it and it is now at a comfortable angle! As I thanked him on my way to leave he handed me a packet of tools and told me to try and always keep them with me in case I needed them. I was happy to pay something for the service and/or the tools, but he refused. He simply helped me to be nice. I love people like that!! If I'm a non-paying customer and get this treatment, I can only imagine what paying customers get! :) read more

My friend had a slow-leaking flat and we hit up this bike store right on the end of Anapaca Street. We're from orange county and needed to fix the bike immediately, and the owner Andrew managed to fit us in. He fixed our flat within 30 minutes which is very impressive (considering are bikes are very hard to take apart) while being professional and courteous. The pricing was also very reasonable. read more

Andrew was super helpful and knowledgeable. I pulled my bike out of storage after five years. He helped me get it up and running after I broke my chain. He even pointed out some other issues and didn't charge me extra to fix them because they didn't require parts. He's the only bike shop I'd go to in town. He explains everything as he's doing it and really let's YOU make the decisions. Not pushy at all, even though I didn't know anything. read more

Andrew at Stape Cycles is my go-to place in SB for my bike needs. I had just moved to SB from the East Coast, and I came into his shop one day with an old bike frame. It had a deflated tire, and an old brake system. He knew just what to do to tune up the old girl, added on a new tire and checked my brakes to ensure it was safe to use. He also informed me about the best locks to use, especially in SB where bikes are regularly stolen. He was a kind, professional, and knowledgeable person, who knows his bikes, old and new. He had a great selection of electric bikes as well. Highly recommend. read more

Service is always done sooner than anticipated and Andrew is always willing to give helpful advice on maintenance and other biking tips. After installing my clipless pedals he took the time to help me adjust my cleats to my new cycling shoes. Also, but more so, prices are fair. read more

I was visiting SB for the day and was looking to rent a bike when I came across Stape Cycles. Andrew was really personable and helpful and set me up with a bike that was in new condition, gave me a basket and a lock so I could go about the day. Stopped in here today with an issue with my front brake. Andrew was great and fixed it in less 15 minutes!

Andrew is very nice, professional, and helpful. I came in looking for a bike and he gave me good pointers and was not pushy or trying to get me to buy something. He even was willing to give me a discount on a bike that was sitting for a while. When I told him I was going to shop around before I came back, he even gave me suggestions of other bike places to check out before I left. Andrew wasn't just trying to sell me a bike, he actually wanted to help me out, which is something rare to come by. read more

I was in dire need of a bike mechanic for my Sondors Ebike and I got turned down at all the big repair shops in SB because they don't work on bike wheels with motors or only work on the bikes they sell but Stape Cycles welcomed my business and has provided excellent care for all of my biking needs for years. Thanks Andrew. read more

Fast, friendly service on my first experience with this shop. Andrew knows what he's doing and is generous with his time and knowledge. I walked my bike in for a quick repair and walked out with a fixed bike and a new local spot I can rely on. Looking forward to being a return costumer. read more

Best bike shop in town! Every bike issue that has ever occurred to me (trust me I have a lot) Stape Cycles has come to the rescue! Rented bicycles for the day from this shop and had a really great experience. Andrew the owner was responsive and thoughtful. Very friendly and professional. He went the extra mile to make sure our bikes are fixed pretty quick.

A friend who is very knowledgeable about bikes recommended this shop. My husband had his squeaky brakes fixed there after taking it to two other places that did nothing. My gears were slipping and there was a rattle. I took my bike in at the end of the day thinking I'd ask about a time when it could be fixed. The proprietor was swamped with work and said to call the next week for a time the week after. When he could see I was disappointed, he said, "Let me take it for a spin." He disappeared around the block and when he was back, it was fixed. He then found the rattle was from the loose chain guard and tightened it. He took the time to fix everything even when he was swamped with work and it was near closing time--and he refused my attempts to pay him. No wonder his shop is so busy--he's a nice guy and he knows his stuff! read more
