i needed 2 bike wheels, went to bici with my old ones to match them, they weren't the most common, after looking the young man had 2 wheels for me, went home to install them, they had a different axle mounting than i had ever seen, and i've worked on everyday bikes for 40 years, went back very soon thereafter, they didnt have ones that would fit, and the woman wouldnt refund me,said i needed to come in week later when manager is there, long story short is that he wouldnt make it right any way shape or form...ive heard from people whom have volunteered there that its a non profit scam to get grant money, there alleged mission statement about educating people about bike repair is thin at best...they ripped me off, refused to make it right...dont donate there ,!!!!! read more

I'm not sure where this place gets their bikes, but my stolen bike somehow ended up here. We took our bikes up from San Diego and stayed overnight at a hotel In Santa Barbara. In the middle of the night, the surveillance video captured a male stealing my bike and now a couple months later it has ended up here. We filed a police report and never recovered the bike until now. I recognize the bike because it's a rare model and was customized. Be careful what you purchase here and check to make sure the deal you're getting is not stolen merchandise. Buyer beware. read more

Took my e-bike for service and they returned it broken. If I had known that they were this bad at handling a basic front brake adjustment (electric bike or not), I would have rather them refused to service it. Refused a refund for servicing something they also broke is poor customer service. Telling me that I was lucky to have it working more than 6 months when I have never had issues with it turning on before. Really disappointing honestly. read more

I went here b/c my bike tire was flat. It was my time to watch our toddler, so I brought them along. This middle-aged white guy saw us in, but very rudely said the shop is for ppl to do the work themselves with help, not for them to do the work, but he'd still do it cuz I obviously couldn't do anything with a toddler. He could've politely asked me to come back another time, but instead chose to be rude and keep us there for longer, exposing us to more of his rudeness. But OK, he's doing me a favor, so I thank him anyway. He right away starts ridiculing my bike. It has a front-mount bike seat, and he said he didn't understand why I chose to save $50 instead of be safe. His buddy said those seats were a crime. Then as he changes the tire, he scoffs and says, "your breaks need work." I knew they were a bit loose--he could've probably taken that opportunity to teach me something, like what I later found out was an issue with a spoke nipple missing, but at this point it was clear he wasn't interested in teaching me, just trying to school me. When I went to pay and thank him again for doing the work for me, he told me my bike was a "death trap". I would give 2 stars b/c ultimately he still did me a favor of doing the work for me, but as he so rudely made clear to me, this place isn't about doing work for people, but is about teaching people about bike maintenance, which this guy failed miserably at. read more

This place is so freaking cool! I've taken the 8 week "bicycle maintenance" class and it was so helpful for me. Since then, my fiance' and I have done all of our maintenance on our bikes, gone on bike trips... etc. Just today I needed to replace my bottom bracket and since I lack the tools / space / knowledge to do it myself, I went into the open workshop and two bike gurus immediately got me started and guided me through the process. Bici Centro staff helped me true a back wheel on my cruiser (a very tedious task for a beginner), replaced 4 nuts (that Hazards lost!!), replaced a broken spoke! I used an hour of stand time. I was only charge $4 at Bici Centro for a job that I was charged $60 for at Hazards (they did a poor job I might add). read more

It's spacious, and has lots of staff to help. The coolest thing is that you can learn to fix your own bike. Staff will instruct you. What a cool place! Basically a DIY bike repair shop but the staff is available to help you along the way. I was a little intimidated at the thought of fixing up my own bike, but I was guided every step of the way. They ran a diagnostic on my bike and let me know what needed to be done, they even had the parts I needed in the shop for super cheap. I replaced all of brake pads, filled my tubes, and greased up my chain all for about $10. Its $5/hr to use their work stations and their tools, they pretty much have everything you need to do basic quick repairs. I also donated a bike and received a tax deductible receipt, so if you have any random bikes sitting around that need a new home, bring it here! Will definitely be back whenever I need to do work on my bike. read more

This place is awesome. The entire concept of working on and learning about bikes is great. The volunteer that helped me looked over my bike and showed me how to tune up my new bike. He was super nice and wanted me to understand how and why we were going to fix it. All told the hour that was spent, plus materials cost me 6.00. Bici Centro is awesome! The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Not only did I get help fixing up my bike, but they taught me how to do everything myself. Their price for stand time and tools is $5/hr, which is such a steal for someone on a tight budget. They saved me about $50, my bottom bracket did NOT have to be overhauled (every other bike shop in SB told me it had to be), they also saved me from getting charged for "unsafe brakes" by said bike repair shops, even though my brakes were indeed safe, and aligned almost perfectly. I will be returning and supporting Bici Centro every time I need bike maintenance. It is great to have such an amazing community organization here in SB! They even offer classes, which I am excited to check out. read more

I had my rear tire stolen and was heartbroken. I delayed getting my bike fixed because I knew it would cost an arm and a leg. I dropped it off at a nearby bike shop and was quoted around 200 dollars to repair rear tire. What a ripoff! On the advice of my boyfriend, I took my bike to bicicentro. I repaired my front and rear tire, put in new inner tubes, and replaced the rims for under 70 dollars. What a deal! It was very empowering to learn how to fix my bike and it felt good to save 65% off of what was quoted to me at another bike shop. On top of all this, the other bike shop said they wouldn't have my bike fixed for at least a week. I was able to walk into bicicentro, fix my bike with the guidance of a skilled technician (thanks Guillermo), in and out within 1 hour. I am incredibly pleased and so thankful that bicicentro exists. I went to bici center because my father and a friend recommend it, my first time going a girl help me and she really helped me with all my problems that the bike had, and I also watch her as she was repairing everything which was very nice, my reason for going was because of my tire had been flat and i had fixed with my father many times and i could not find the reason why it wasn't working since i already had fixed it, so i just got a new well i ended up buying a new thing that goes inside the tire and it was fine for a week but then again my tire went flat, again i fixed the little hole then didn't use it again for a month and my tire was flat i was just pissed off because i didn't understand the problem, was it me? was it the bike? or the material i bought at bici center? then i again took out the inside of the tire to take a look and i didn't find any holes, so then i pumped some air and the inside just broke open, i didn't even push it to its limit!, anyways now i was so frusttraded and had to go to bike center to get my money back, i told them the whole situation to a man with a black bear and a ponytail, he said to me i have no idea how you fixed it so i cannot give you a new material and i was so sure that this situation was not my problem now, it was the material being really bad quality from china and sorry but that guy for not helping me was really messed up, so unfortunately you loose a customer and get a bad review!, I will never go back to your bike shop after this incident! Great place to go if you want to fix your bike. Not a great place to buy a bike, unless you really want a fixer-upper. Prices are low, and you get what you pay for. They sold me a bike with a 6-month warranty. I checked the bike before leaving and rode it around a bit, but a compromised bike seat and broken chain link escaped my attention. Not merely aesthetic issues, but actually issues of functionality/safety. When I returned to claim the warranty, they told me to get to work on it myself and that replacement parts would not be available. This is fine, but this also does not constitute a "warranty." Be aware that bikes purchased here should be considered "as is" because you may not be able to claim parts or labor afterwards. Otherwise, great spot to fix up your bike with friendly staff. read more
