If you don't like living life on the edge, stick to electric scooters. You are in a low buggie car driving the streets of Santa Barbara surrounded by big cars. But for some reason, it works in this town. People see you and are actually courteous enough to be careful around you. Some drivers do get irritated and go around you, but everyone is kind for the most part. Here is my advice: -When you first get going, find a quiet residential neighborhood street to practice and get comfortable with the controls. Don't rush yourself. NOTE: these cars DO NOT reverse, so if you get stuck needing to back up, you'll have to power off the car without putting it in *park mode* and physically back it up yourself. This is a design flaw but it won't ruin the fun. -Go with a group of people and drive in a single-file line, one behind the other. Only do two people to a single buggie ***IF*** you are with other people in their own buggies. This increases safety. -This is not the time to show off. This is not the time to be careless. This is the time to be extra careful and put all of your common sense and ***DEFENSIVE*** driving skills to use, not OFFENSIVE driving. You are the little guy, so be safe and smart. People surrounding you in their cars will respect you more for this. -Take breaks often in open parking lots and quiet spaces to keep your group together. This will also give you time to see how everyone is feeling, communicate any issues, relieve any tension. Trust me. And most importantly, HAVE FUN. You will put smiles on many peoples faces, including your own! So many people waved and whistled and clapped. It kind of brings the community together and adds to the beauty of Santa Barbara. Enjoy!

I also love that cars honk and folks wave happily and cheer you on as you pass by! The buggies are super easy to use and they also have Bluetooth (make sure you ask which one because not all have them!). You must have your drivers license and insurance to ride the buggie. I also love that SB Buggie created a Google Maps navigated tour that takes you to all of the best stops in SB! All you have to do is click the link they provide on your phone and you're set! We even stopped at a ocean lookout point to take pictures. This was just so fun! Definitely a must-do when in Santa Barbara!

From the first time Peter showed us around and demoed the carts, to his following up over the next few months (even his patience and followup when we had delays - not them) to the finances, to them taking care of DMV and registration to delivery (on time and everything perfect with the carts) was beyond easy, enjoyable, no hassle. Even the delivery guys was nice, cool and the most amazing truck parallel parker ever :) I wish more companies were like them!!! After renting golf cart one summer from Jeff, we decided to purchase our own from his business central coast golf carts 3 years ago for a $9000, when they were still in Morro Bay. We should've known immediately after sales service would be horrible. Within two months, the ignition went out, we called the business Jeff's son-in-law Cameron was now running the business and had me take many pictures and videos so he could see what the problem was. He then said he would have to turn it into Warranty. Needless to say we were without a golf cart for at least a week. We finally called Jeff, he said they had numerous ignitions in the shop and they would have somebody come right out to replace part. He apologized for his son-in-law's lack of service and said it wouldn't happen again. Following year they moved to Grover Beach, golf cart had 300 miles on it. Brakes were making horrible noise we asked about having it serviced. said it would cost $150 to transport it to their new location. We said OK, but he could not give us a date when this would happen because they were "EXTREMELY BUSY". Waited a week or so finally called Jeff. Jeff sent his mechanic out right away to check it out. Dealing with Cameron is definitely not great for the company. This summer 2026 we wanted to get our golf cart service because it now it had about 700 miles on it. Had to speak to Cameron again, he said they could do it, but they were "EXTREMELY BUSY" and he would have to get back to me on the following Monday to get me on the schedule. Called Jeff and he said Cameron was running the business. Eight weeks later we are still waiting to hear back from Cameron. ......... ANOTHER example of after sales service. We have family that spent $23,000 for a Bentelli golf cart that is currently 18 months old. They were not able to use this at all this summer because it was completely dead. Central Coast golf cart was not helpful in taking care of this expensive item because they were "EXTREMELY BUSY". Family is now working with Bentelli to get this golf cart repaired.... I've tried three different companies in total and have been most happy with Island Rentals and the Yamahas they rent out. Important note on rentals, you have to be at least 25. Their golf carts are gas powered and go a good speed, keeping in mind the speed limit is 15mph on the roads for them. They give you a very detailed map that is so helpful of exactly where you should be going. The entire path takes about an hour but you can pull off & sight see along the way. There are gorgeous views and terrain along the path! Island Rentals is nice because it's so darn close to the boat terminal so doesn't require a trek to rent. No reservations here - first come, first served and I have seen them 'sell' out in peak times. $70 for 1 hour hour and a $60 deposit for a second hour, you MUST bring cash and it's a two hour maximum. I'm headed back to Catalina Island next month and am SO excited to use Island Rentals again! A repeat customer is the best sign of a place being stellar.

The handlebars were sticky and felt disgusting, which immediately made me question how well the bikes are cleaned and maintained between rentals. When you're paying to rent a bike, you should expect equipment that is clean, safe, and properly maintained. What bothered me most was the lack of accountability. If there's an issue with the bikes, the business should listen to the customer, inspect the equipment, and work toward a solution--not automatically make the customer feel like they're the problem. We literally rode the bikes for 15 minutes around the block and returned them. The employee stated, "That's funny, because three other customers before you did not have any issues." Better maintenance, cleanliness, and mostly customer service training are definitely needed.
