If you don't like living life on the edge, stick to electric scooters. You are in a low buggie car driving the streets of Santa Barbara surrounded by big cars. But for some reason, it works in this town. People see you and are actually courteous enough to be careful around you. Some drivers do get irritated and go around you, but everyone is kind for the most part. Here is my advice: -When you first get going, find a quiet residential neighborhood street to practice and get comfortable with the controls. Don't rush yourself. NOTE: these cars DO NOT reverse, so if you get stuck needing to back up, you'll have to power off the car without putting it in *park mode* and physically back it up yourself. This is a design flaw but it won't ruin the fun. -Go with a group of people and drive in a single-file line, one behind the other. Only do two people to a single buggie ***IF*** you are with other people in their own buggies. This increases safety. -This is not the time to show off. This is not the time to be careless. This is the time to be extra careful and put all of your common sense and ***DEFENSIVE*** driving skills to use, not OFFENSIVE driving. You are the little guy, so be safe and smart. People surrounding you in their cars will respect you more for this. -Take breaks often in open parking lots and quiet spaces to keep your group together. This will also give you time to see how everyone is feeling, communicate any issues, relieve any tension. Trust me. And most importantly, HAVE FUN. You will put smiles on many peoples faces, including your own! So many people waved and whistled and clapped. It kind of brings the community together and adds to the beauty of Santa Barbara. Nobody was there at the time so we booked online for 3 hours as I figured that would be perfect amount of time to utilize these as our main transportation. We arrived about 15 minutes early. The duo were polite and assisted us as we filled out forms. This is when things got interesting. First they require a $200 deposit that isn't mentioned anywhere on their website and the way they ask just makes it seem fishy. We can hold your debit card or take $200 on your credit. Ok, I opted for the hold on credit. After you sign everything they tell you about the buggies. These things are a piece of shit. They can't do a u turn, the speedos don't work, they don't go in reverse, the throttle goes up and down on its own making it seem like it's going to die. I had no idea how fast I was going but anytime I gave it some gas the front would sway left and right. The entire time we felt incredibly unsafe. I have my motorcycle license and I would never ride in one of these again. We returned well within the 1st hour. I wasn't expecting a refund but the gentleman offered $40 back. I said sure that would be appreciated. This trip was 2 weeks ago and still waiting on that refund. I'm sorry but this was a no go for us. Definitely recommend anyone who visits Santa Barbara to go for a Buggie ride - a highlight of our trip! Easy to book a reservation online. Staff are super friendly and accommodating. They even moved a couple of the buggies on the street so we could park our car while we Buggie'd and let us go for an extra 30 minutes as long as we were back by closing time. There are three routes but you're free to go wherever you choose as long as you don't get on the freeway. Their routes bring you to some beautiful parts of Santa Barbara with great ocean views, up and down the hills of SB and through some pretty greenery. We rented a Buggie for 2 hours, which was more than enough time to do the blue route with stops to enjoy the view and take pictures. The route directions load on your phone to make it easy to follow while you ride. You can even connect your phone to the Buggie's bluetooth speaker so you can listen to your music while you ride. They give you a short tutorial on how to drive the Buggie before heading off on your adventure. There is no reverse so be prepared to hop out and push if you need to make a U-turn. They provide helmets in multiple sizes. I have a small head and the S fit just fine. Bring a light jacket even if the weather is nice. SB Buggie is an experience you MUST do in Santa Barbara located in the Funk Zone. I am so happy I booked this fun activity for a group of 8. Lesson learned - We rented 4 buggies for 1 hour but wished we had it for 2 hours or more. The gentlemen were great, they were helpful and informative. They got our group through the paperwork, payment, instructions and set up our buggies fast. It's a super fun and adventurous way to road trip around Santa Barbara in a small little buggie with BLUETOOTH so you can play music from your phone! There are 3 different routes you can take, we did the yellow route which took you along the coast, passing through residential areas, restaurants, the mission and you can go off route if you want, just watch out for other cars and be courteous enough to pull over to the side to let them through. Got a deal on Groupon. up to 4 people for $104 for 2 buggies. Based off yelp reviews, I thought this would be fun and relaxing. However, I felt it was not so! I'm not from around Santa Barbara, so I wasn't familiar with the roads here. I thought we should be driving around in smaller streets and would not be as many cars as it was on a Saturday weekend. But that wasn't the case. It was opposite. We had to learn how to ride the Buggie fast. It was really scary. They said it's like riding a motorcycle but easier!! It was hard to maneuver the buggy but you'll get used to it even though you're still scared. There is NO REVERSE in the buggy...I feel that is pretty scary considering if there are regular cars on the road and you're stuck and can't turn around!! They explained it really fast, so you have to learn fast!! I felt safer on the smaller roads near next to the beach. Once you're out of the beach/ocean proximity. There are cars driving a lot. You fell they might run you over!! We would have to stop in the curb until they passed multiple times. Sometimes there are not a lot of places safe to stop but you feel the cars getting frustrated and I got anxious every time there are regular cars in back of me, even though I'm driving the same speed limit as other cars!!! The buggy can handle speeds like regular cars without any problems or difficulty. Another problem we faced was the map. They didn't provide a simple map of where to go that is easy to read and follow. It was extremely difficulty. With the anxiety of watching out for cars/pedestrian, etc, we got a map that we have to read line by line in paragraphs!! It was not easy to read at all. The paragraphs are long and there was more directions in the back of the paper!! If you miss a street, then you're lost! I tell you...Do you read a essay when you're driving in a car??!!!...I would get dizzy/nausea reading for the driver and it is unsafe. Esp that the buggy doesn't have any protection if we got hit by some other car on the road. The third thing we faced was the wind! Boy oh Boy was there a whole lot of wind when you're driving and trying to find the street signs. We were squinting our eyes and trying to block some air that is drying out our eyes with one hand. We needed googles. I can now understand why motorcycles need a helmet that covers the eyes. The wind is very uncomfortable. I found this browsing Yelp trying to find something fun to do during a weekend stay at SB. We showed up slightly late but they were not strict about it at all. My gf and I did it for one hour and it was so fun! We sort of just cruised the closest street to the beach and went in random directions adventuring to see what there was in SB. Thanks to Alex and the other dude in the 2010 Championship Lakers hat. THINGS TO KNOW $200 deposit incase we damaged the car (removed when returning it in one piece). The gas and break is all on the handles. No pedals are used at all. We probly maxed out at 50mph at most but we were also trying to be safe as there is a $200 deposit being held just incase... I recommend bringing a bluetooth to listen to music as you cruise around otherwise you and your partner will just be listening to the wind hit your face the entire time lol. I personally thought an hour is plenty enough to have a good experience between 2 people but everyone's different. Parking is somewhat hard to find. Took a trip up to Santa Barbara for LDW & SB Buggie was a highly suggested activity on TikTok (of course, lol). I must say, my bf & I had the time of our lives on these little scooters. We called ahead of time to make sure there was one available for when we arrived and thankfully it wasn't as busy as we expected. Also, make sure to ask for any promotions going on prior to booking online because we got a $10 discount which turned out to be $85 for 2 hours. There's 4 buggies with built in bluetooth on a first come first serve basis & trust me, you will LOVE roaming freely/blasting music on beautiful afternoons. The owner, Phil, informed us of the "blue route" he personally mapped out of the must sees/popular tourist spots that's easily accessible for any riders on the SB buggie website - this takes approximately 1 hour but with pictures and whatnot, it does go by pretty quickly. Do be aware though that some of the stops aren't necessarily stops but more so about the scenic drives to and from there. Don't let the sketch lot turn you away from this place! I know first impressions matter, but you won't regret going with them. Plus there's a sweet dog that hangs out there! The buggies actually haul ass and after you get over the initial fear of dying, they're a blast! You can drive them anywhere other than the freeway and they give you a tour guide print out for the copilot that takes you to a bunch of the tourist spots all over Santa Barbara. You can go wherever you want, though, just be sure to return to the lot before the time window expires or you'll be charged more. The best way to feel the good life...with the wind and surf IN YOUR FACE! A recent party was organized and Mike, the Buggie Boss, helped our group secure 10 of his rides. Donned in Mario Kart costumes of Princess Peach, Luigi, Toshi and Mario, we took to the streets of Santa Barbara, complete with ballon "life indicators" trailing from the roll bars. The business may not look like much, sitting in a chainlinked, dirt yard, but what more do you need to rent 3-wheeled scooters in Santa Barbara's Funk Zone. I feel the location helps tell the story of this cute, little beach town's Bohemianism. Go online to review the rules, call and make a reservation or if you're lucky, there may be 1 or 2 Buggies when waiting when you walk up. There are rules so please read prior to boarding. SBB provides suggested roots and we took them up on their directions. The tour took our Karts up State Street, into beautiful neighborhoods with palm tree lined lanes to pop out on the cliffs above the surf. Amazing! Add to the feel or wind in our faces, tourists and locals looked on, waved and honked as our Kart Karavan of Mario land whizzed by. The kids loved us! Our winding around town took about 2 hours. This feels like a good time to get an idea of where you want to be. There were no stops along the way so plan more rental time or make notes and come back in your own car after the ride should you want to stop and smell the roses (at the Santa Barbara Mission's Rose Garden). Bring a small Bluetooth speaker so you have some tunes as you play. The experience was fantastic. Sure the group of friends made it but it was possible without the help of Mike and the services of SB Buggies. I'm already looking forward to the next trip. Oh, and we were locals. Looking for something fun to do during your LA trip? SB Buggie is a must on your list!! It's a 1.5 hour drive from Glendale. It was so worth it!! My boyfriend and I rented 2 Buggies for us and another couple. We got the 2 hour rental and attempted to drive around Francheschi Park. However, many roads were blocked due to disposal trucks. But we ended up driving around tourist streets and honked at people. We had a blast!! (Honking to say hello. Nothing aggressive. :P) Suggestions/tips: Always look for deals on their website. There's always a promotion! We found a deal $70/buggie for 2 hours. In my opinion, that was a steal! Note that there's no reverse mode on those Buggies, so make sure to drive carefully. You cannot go on the highway in case you haven't noticed. Mike, the owner, will give you a map. I found it super confusing, so I recommend using your phone as a GPS. Make sure to deactivate highway on the GPS. In addition, try to take videos of your ride. I was able to capture some inappropriate conversations I had with my bf and we're still laughing about it today. Well, of course, always be careful of your surroundings and drive carefully! I have to say this was one of the most fun things I have ever done. I first came to SB Buggie with my daughter on a Wednesda, came back told my wife and son and we instantly had to go back that wknd. Kyle, Mike and the SB buggie team are A1 when it comes to customer care. They truly do care. They answered every question my wife had and even gave my daughter a Butterfly Helmet. Our buggie had an issue and instantly Mike came and swapped it out for a brand new one and re started out time. Since then we've had 3 trips to SB and not a single trip went without this driving experience. The price was unexpectedly reasonable. $75 for an hour for a buggie, $95 for 2 hours! Worth it to do 2 hours your first time, the next few times we opted for the hour ride. It comes with a Bluetooth speaker so you can bump your own jams and a route you can look up on your phone to drive along. It's such an amazing way to explore SB and so fun to drive! If I could give them 0 stars I would but that isn't an option on yelp. DO NOT RENT FROM THIS BUSINESS!! This was the most rude and unprofessional establishment I have ever been to. You are better off renting the segways next door. This was the BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT of my Santa Barbara trip. First of all, the guy named Ken was VERY RUDE when I called on the phone. He gave me a lot of attitude when I asked to make reservations. Even when we got there, the customer service was terrible. We rented out two buggies and the first buggie's throttle/handle came off 10 mins after we left the premises. After 20 mins, they came with a new buggie and we left on our journey. After we came back, instead of apologizing for our troubles, they tried to CHARGE US for a new throttle/handle saying we broke it because we turned it the wrong way. The guy tried to charge us $75 for that and then gave us a "discount" and tried to charge us $45. We asked to see the broken throttle/handle and a new one to compare and you can definitely tell that the broken throttle/handle was already worn down from years of wear and tear. The plastic was already yellow/brown and cracked in different places already. They were trying to SCAM US AND EVEN THREATENED TO CALL THE COPS AND TAKE US TO COURT. We refused to pay for that crap and they decided not to charge us. Anyone with common sense can tell they were in the wrong for giving us a faulty vehicle in the first place. By looking at the previous reviews, this is not the first time they have scammed someone with this. NEVER COMING BACK TO THIS SHITHOLE EVER AGAIN AND WILL DEFINITELY WARN ALL MY FAMILY, FRIENDS, & FOLLOWERS! In response to Mr. Jeffery's response below, we are not "entitled kids who don't know how to take responsibility," we are all young working professionals who know when someone is trying to take advantage of us. At the premises he told us he wouldn't charge us but now he is saying he will? Would you really trust a business who goes back on their word? I wouldn't. And now he is charging us for the tow which is the company's responsibility because we gave him a bad review. Wow, great way to conduct your business by being childish and not admitting to your own mistakes. By the way, I doubt you can even charge us anything because under the consumer rights act, it states that the vehicle you gave us must be "of a satisfactory quality" and "fit for purpose." Yeah, the buggie only lasted 10 mins cause the throttle was already falling off, not because we turned it the wrong way. If you keep turning it the wrong way, the vehicle doesn't accelerate so why would we even turn it that way? Your reasons don't make any sense. TL;DR: Definitely a must when visiting SB. Recommend early afternoon for 2-3 hours, minimum 2, or more. We chose to rent our buggies for 1 hour but we wish we rented it for at least 2 or even 3 hours. 1 hour goes by fast. Especially if you chose to the blue route, which is the longest route on the website. We barely drove the blue route too. We made our 1st stop on a hill with a very nice sunset view on Shoreline Drive. We decided to stop here and take nice photos. And by the time we finished, we only had 20 minutes left! We decided to go back in time because it was also getting dark. With daylights savings time ending, the sun started setting at around 4:30 and it gets really dark at 5pm, so Billy wanted us to be back by then, 5:15pm the latest. I recommend booking probably around 2-3pm so you can take your time on the blue route. We also had reservations on a Thursday which was perfect because there were not too many cars in downtown, however Friday and the weekends it gets really busy. I guess that's not too bad because the buggies aren't too fast anyways, they're just as fast as moped probably. Lastly, NECESSARY CLOTHING: Bring a Face Mask, sunglasses, and long sleeve shirt/pants. We went early November and we're so glad we had a facemask and long sleeve. It got really cold fast and the face mask and sunglasses help because of all the wind going in your face. Face mask is not only good for covid, but also so you don't get bugs in your mouth. read more

My girlfriend and I had a terrific experience. This was our first time doing anything like this and Felipe was extremely helpful showing us the ins and outs of the buggy and reviewing the rules/laws. We did the two hour ride and drove all around downtown, the waterfront, the mission and Cliff drive. We brought our small dog and he loved it too. Felipe recommended a buggy with Bluetooth speakers, so we were riding around to some tunes. The buggy takes a little time to accelerate, but once you get going, it's a blast. I think we were maxing out at like 40mph or so? Overall, it was an excellent experience and we will be back for more. We just walked up and rented a buggy w/o a reservation, but I would recommend making one online, as they can get pretty busy. read more

SB Buggie was recommended by a friend and ended up being our favorite part of our trip !! Loren gave us an awesome route (2 hours, perfect amount of time , we could have done longer!) along the coast, through gorgeous Hope Ranch , up in the hills looking over the ocean, into Montecito, to the Santa Barbara Mission... it was a blast! Our buggie had Bluetooth so we jammed out to our own tunes and sunny soundtrack while enjoying the views and the experience together. This was super random but so much fun! They recommended a scenic one hour route, which was stunning! Greenery and a peek of the ocean in between. They're like go carts but everything is done with hand controls like a motorcycle not pedals. I'd recommend for all ages. read more
